RAM doubt - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, app "CPU identifier" says that our Galaxy s Advance has 1024 Mb And not 768 Mb. It's possible that? Maybe some RAM has been disabled for commercial purpuose...
Inviato dal mio GT-I9070 con Tapatalk 2

Well I just tried the app and I too got "1 GB total and 629 MB usable"...
This could be bug from the app... Since in all other apps it comes as 768 mb only...
Sent from my i9070 because I'm away from my PC right now

Most probably a problem with the app.
Which company would give 1GB RAM and advertise as 768MB? I wouldn't.

Not a problem...
Unused ram is wasted ram.
Are you talking about total available RAM (including used and free RAM), or just RAM that isn't occupied by running processes (free RAM)?

First of all let us know what ROM do you use.
Is it Simply Honey? If so, go to ext4 application and run 'Convert to ext4'.
Have you had a look inside the phones case sometimes the ram hides itself under the battery .

DROID 3 only shows total 379MB of RAM available?

When I checked "RUNNING SERVICES" in setting, the used and available RAM only adds up to 379MB? Is this correct?
It has 512MB of RAM but maybe some of the RAM is reserved for the GPU.
Yes, this is normal. Some of the memory is reserved for system use only.
Odd though mine shows 439MB of RAM VS his 379 kinda odd

How much ram does note 1 have?

Hi guys,
This might be a silly question. But ive got the asylum rom installed and just notice on the about phone area that my ram is only 780mb. Is this right?
I thought the note had 1gb ram?
Could anyone share what it says on their about phone area?
Thanks in advanced.

different kernels show different available ram.. like stock show 863.. and hydracore show different.. so its ok.. 1GB ram is not really available..
The RAM that you are missing has gone to the hardware.
yeah i too wanted to know about the exact ram of my note as i have used my note for almost 1 year.. as i remember in past i have a pc with 1 gb ram and it shows 0.99 gb ram in my computer properties but here with my phone having 1 gb ram never showed above 900 mb ram

Swap file possible?

I used roehsoft ram expander on my old wildfire buzz to create a swap file on my sd card to increase the ram memory and it worked pretty well.
Is it possible to use this with the same mini? I ran a test using an app from play store, screen shot below. It may not be accurate. It says the kernel isn't compatible.

The reason for this may be because willy had a custom kernel and our device hasn't got a custom kernel, I came from wildfire aswell.

Well maybe you're right although I tried to run ram expander and it says error no sd card. I set the correct location and it refuses to detect it.

Do you realy need more ram?? 1gb is not enough?

While the system + running apps is using around 400 - 600 mb sometimes more, I don't want to have to clean up every time I watch a high quality video via my tv or play a heavy game. Some games optimally uses about 500mb, etc. No 1gb isn't enough xd.
Yes I can use su boost via console and it isn't hard, but if I could have more ram wouldn't that be optimal? Who doesn't want more? Why not just stick with a old handset if 1gb is all you'll ever need. I bet a year from now you'll want more when 1gb is relatively small

Yes you are right.

So I guess the question is, what would need to be modified in the kernel to allow creation of the swap file in the SD? Things like this is making me interested in learning android development

Then maybe you should've gone with Note II or a new PC. S3 Mini is not for gaming.
Don't like giant phones :-[

More system available ram in kernel

Hi, yesterday I read all threads from mini 2, and I saw that the first cm10.1 have more Mb of ram, and then it have been reduced to 397! Why? @TheWhisp explain : ,,Because SAMSUNG knows the best"

Oh my God this is amazing. It's very strange.. I think that having 414MB in RAM with Mini 2 drivers you can't do a lot so TheWhisp thiked to come bak into 396/397 MB in RAM. Personally, I don't like so much Mini 2 drivers

Yes, but... More ram result more responsive system without lag and better performance. Correct me if I said something wrong.

Yes you're right, more RAM = better performance! :good: But I still think that it's an hardware problem or kernel or both (?)

I'm using my GT-I8150 here and it has 352mb of RAM with stock ROM, we can have kernels up to 416mb. Tho some chose to use the 352mb of RAM because its more stable. Developers made HM kernels which stands for High Memory and its 377mb of RAM. VHM for Very HM, RAM varies with 408 or 416mb. Personally, I'm using 408mb cos its smoother and there are lesser system crashes

Because the extra RAM is taken from other drivers - ADSP (video decoding/endocing and camera) and MDP (display, GPU), meaning these device have less available resources.

So does this explains about the CAF kernel?

So, mini 2 have 512 mb ram which is used for drivers and config. files, and the rest is used as avaiable os ram. But is possible to have at least 400 free ram? ( deleting the license and disclaimer text from sources?)

Don't get confused. Licence/disclaimer texts etc have no impact in ram..

I think that if you delete all useless (not needed) texts from driver files, you can reach 400 mb from 398 )

Nope. And that is because comments in source code are not included in final compiled packet.
