Sometimes i noticed while charging or on zero brightness my display is very wierd or greyed out or colours are messed up. Increasing brightness usually solves this

Hmm. Did you noticed another thing. One low brightness if you look real close, you can see, hmm i cant really explain, but its like the display on TV on low voltage., to better recognise the defect you would need some specific light colours on the screen like grey, yellow etc
and while charging.....touch sensitivity decreases....I have to press a little hard for selecting!!
does anyone have this prob?

I have seen sometimes the whole screen turn yellowish or so. But it disapperas after a restart
Is these problems limited to Samsung galaxy s advance or other Samsung phones. Does other phone of other companies have these problems
from my experience some of these things are related to unappropriate charger. especially screwed sensitivity
It's normal for amoled screens. My father have the same problem when charging phone but grayed screen is only in s adv. I have one more issue. My right side of screen is 'sharped' on red colours. I can see little stripes on it but only when it's red.

Lock Pattern Breaking off
Sometimes, when i try to draw my unlock pattern, it cannot be drawn as a continuous pattern. It breaks off as separate points. It is really annoying as I cannot unlock my phone, even after cleaning my fingers&screen. And since single point tries don't register as failed tries, it does not say "too many failed attempts" .
Do any of you have this problem? possible reasons/solutions??
thanks, in advance.

After being in my pocket for some time, there is a rainbow effect on the screen. I can change the location of this effect if I push elsewhere on the screen; however, it seems to concentrate itself right in the center. It has no ill-effect on the touch screen but it is visible under certain angles when the screen is on. I am using the screen protector that came with it. After some time being out of my pocket it dissipates and looks normal.
Anyone else experience anything like this?

Yeah, I have.. I haven't noticed it's touch sensitive, but I've seen the problem while rebooting and also randomly while using the phone.. And it seems like for me the screen gets progressively worse and starts losing all contrast and fades to white. A reboot always fixes it.
My guess is something in the video drivers flips out. But the first time I saw it I thought I had a hardware problem because I found it that way in the morning out of the blue, but I guess it had started doing it 'itself' overnight or something.

I dont think it has anything to do with the screen itself. But the digitizer and the multiple layers on top of the screen that the digitizer is composed of.

Yes that is exactly it - the diffraction of light between 2 surfaces, is it normal; however?
Thanks!

Nooo, then maybe what I'm talking about is different. I'm talking crazy screen, weird 'rippling' going on, screen slowly turns more and more white. I know what newtons rings are.. It's sorta visible in sunlight.
So perhaps I'm describing a different issue. Mine is definitely something with the phone, not the layers.
I just received my nexus and I thought the battery was dead cause it showed the battery icon briefly. I left it charging for an hour and nothing. I tried the flashlight trick on the screen and I could see the welcome screen. I disable the automatic dimming feature and now my screen turns on. It must be a software issue on the sensor. I don't know yet.
So you shine a flashlight at the ambient light sensor and it turns the screen back up? Like the sensitivity of the sensor is too low? I'll have to make a mental note of this for when mine finally comes in.
Yes if you can't see the screen. If it still doesn't work, shine the light on the screen and you should be able to see the welcome screen. I don't know if you ever had your laptop LCD inverter burn out?
Thanks for this post. I had the exact same problem. I struggled to get up and running, but figure it out with the help of my GNex.

Thanks for the info.
I had this problem and I'm getting mine replaced. This is almost certainly not a software issue, else everybody would be having it (and if it were a misconfiguration, it would go away with a flash of the factory rom).

Do a search for light sensor, and you'll find other people with this problem.

True, I can't even see youtube in landscape mode cause the screen will shutoff. I have to have it in portrait mode.
Sounds more like a hardware problem. A light should DIM the screen, not brighten it. The sensor is reversed.

So when you walk outside to the bright sun, you would want your tablet's brightness to be at the lowest setting? I doubt it
I know its difficult to see on the picture but my replacement black One on the right is darker at full brightness than my white one on the left.. I know they use different lcd's due to quality issues now and the white one has a stuck pixel so at least the black one is free from that it just doesnt look right and is annoying me.. and input?
PS: when using the camera app the black one seems to always be focusing!! they are on the same settings, software and same looking at the same image, really strange
You are aware that you don't have the brightness turned fully up on the right device aren't you?

LOLOLOLOL that's an epic fail ... OP, surely you can see that in the pic! ... I have the black one and it only focuses when I touch to focus.
Yeah mines the same, works perfectly fine regarding that.
I have sorted the focus issue out with a hard reset they now both perform the same, the brightness is turned down slightly to show the blue colour better..
Is there any way to dim the back lights on the buttons at the bottom if my phone? At night they're very glaring
[SGH-I337]
nope i think, but its done a good job glaring ur eye to take ur attention, or u can use no led mod make use amoled as notilight instead of ur hardware button led.
ps, i wonder if those two light at da bottom were red light n glaring at darknight when both lighten up, it would be creepy to see from afar herherher

I dont know how fast they can be switched on/off.
But something like PWM should be possible. (See wikipedia)
Eg. Swithing on for 2 ms and switching it off for two ms makes the led seem less bright. The eye is slow, so it doesnt see the fast on/off switching.
When eg. Switched on 1microsecond and off 10ms they should be dimmed much more.
Regards

Interesting thinking! The only reason I asked is my old moterola atrix could do it. Thank you all for your help
Hi guys,
My mobile phone seems to have a not working screen. The weird thing is that the backlights work and I can connect via adb, but the screen and the charging led will not.
Do you think it could be because of a faulty or not connected wire? I want to make sure that changing the screen would solve the problem before buying one.
Thanks!
Update: I just noticed that the screen is on but extremely dim. It´s not possible to see anything at all.
Could be LED backlight

Yes, the mobile works normally. It's just that the charging led (the one on top of the screen) won't work and the screen is extremely dark. It's almost impossible to see anything unless you are in a room with just a little light.
The brightness is set to 100%. It's probable a faulty screen or a loose connection but I would like to find a way to know if that's the case

ah sorry. I see what you mean. No, the screen is always so dim that it's really hard to know if the mobile is rebooting.

so it's not a screen setting or bad app, and not likely a software issue.
It could be a bad screen LCD connection, but guessing the LCD screen needs to be replaced.
can buy a new LCD for about $30 on ebay, but maybe more trouble that it's worth
Motorola Droid 4 Screen Take Apart Repair Guide
could have someone else fix it
http://www.repairsuniverse.com/repair-service.html
or it's time for a new phone
I will try to fix it myself. The price of getting a new one will be similar to the price of sending it to repair so that would make no sense.
Thank you very much, sd_shadow
