Hi,
I just wondered if I could ask a question. I'd like to flash to a different ROM to take advantage of the updates but am concerned that if something goes wrong with the phone later on I won't be able to put the stock EE ROM back on later.
If something should go wrong how can I revert back to its stock EE ROM?
Thanks a lot
Unlock the phone, boot cwm recovery something NOT flashing it. And do a nandroid backup. Then flash what u want.

If i decide to flash a new kernel or a new ROM or something like that..
can that brick my phone, or will I still be able to get back to the recovery menu if it fails really bad.
(Im not talking about wildpuzzlerom now..)
If another custom rom came you on the market, yes you can still go in to recovery and reflash another rom if it fails.
(if that custom rom maker dident include anything stupid as faulty radio or a new unlocked recovery)
It should be ok and you can always restore from a nandroid backup

Hey guys, I just bought a Nexus One off of craigslist. The guy that I bought it from has CyanogenMod-6.0.0-N1 on it right now. Im not really experienced with flashing custom roms and rooting or any of that stuff. I put Froyo on my Captivate when I had and thats it. What I would like to do is to get my Nexus One back on stock Froyo so I can start with a clean slate. Im not sure of everything that the previous owner did to the phone and Ive been having a couple of issues with it, so I just want to start over so I know exactly what is on the phone. So what I need to know is how I can do this.
-Where can I find a stock Froyo file?
-How do I put it on my Nexus One? Do I have to erase the CyanogenMod first?
-Any other hints or good roms that you guys would suggest.
-Is there a way to back up my phone so I dont have to reinstall all of my apps?
Im sorry if there is already another thread like this. I couldnt find it. Thank you for any help.
I did exactly what you did. I used the Passimg.zip method http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...des_&_Tutorials#Unroot_.2F_Restore_your_Nexus Was easy as pie. But yeah i didn't need to do backup / restore of apps as it was a new phone. You can't use Titanium Backup without root, but the market as a few other apps that let you backup apps to SD card.
All info including the Froyo ROM files are linked from the wiki. I went with FRG33 and then updated to FRG83.
Thank you. I was reading through the wiki post and I wasn't sure if the files were updated because the original post date was a while ago. So if I do the method that you did, will it unroot my phone? It is rooted right now.

Yes it will unroot it, flash the stock rom and will also flash stock recovery. So if you have a custom recovery installed that will go away too. Plus all your data and apps.

Is there any way to do this without a functioning power button? The only way to select things in the bootloader is with it.

My bootloader is locked, and I'd like to keep it that way. I'm sending it in to HTC and want it to go as smoothly as possible.
Just as an FYI, what I did to get back to stock:
From CM6.0 I flashed clockwork recovery
from clockwork I flashed 4.06 radio (was on 5.08)
flashed stock unrooted FRF91 from an update.zip
used flash_image in ADB from recovery to flash a stock recovery.img pulled from a FRF91 PASSIMG.
Everything works and is 100% stock now.
Sounds like you're all over it then...

Wait, didn't you need to be rooted to flash back the stock recovery?

I was still rooted in clockwork. Using flash_image put it back to stock unrooted recovery.
As it stands I have stock unrooted everything including recovery.
Oh i see, thanks for the details
I've been trying to read as much as I could about loading custom roms, but I haven't found a guide that explains everything. I've gone through all the stickies but I haven't gotten a clear idea of flashing roms.
In the past, I've rooted my captivate and then downloaded the Titanium backup manager. But after wanting to go back to stock, my phone completely died using Odin to go back to JF6 and then doing an OTA update.
So before experimenting with my phone again, I want to be sure I know exactly what I'm doing. So is there a detailed guide on about using custom roms? Such as, what exactly is the update.zip file? When should I create a copy of it? What is Clockwork? If I want to revert back to stock, how do you go back to JH7 instead of JF6?
Not really, not for the level of detail you are looking for.
I'd recommend trying before you know everything . Just make sure make sure you have download mode working via the 3 button combo

Update.zip is what android automatically uses in recovery mode - clockwork is an update.zip that leads you into a super cool recovery mode that lets u do more.
U don't really need to mess with it.
Just install ROM manager and it will handle it

Thanks!! If you flash one ROM and want to switch to another, do you have to use odin to go back to stock? Or can you use a rom manager to flash a different one on?

Most of the time you can do it on top, but its considered a safe measure to go back to stock. Also make sure you disable lagfix if you have one or else it will screw everything up.

If you are going back to stock, disabling lagfix isn't necessary. Everything is completely overwritten. It's only necessary if you don't go back to stock and just upgrade instead.
I'm interested in this too - First Android device and being on a tiny bit of a learning curve...
Reading through the forums here, I see the popular safety first consensus seems to be Odin back to stock, then root/ROM Manager and on with the next ROM. Fair enough, I have no problem with that, but I'd like to know the reasoning?
So lets say I try to go from my current Cog 2.1.6 (voodoo disabled) to the latest Cognition 2.4.1 beta (or any other ROM) via ROM Manager. What disasters "will" befall me? What disasters "might" befall me? Why?
You may or may not get frequent crashes if you do not flash to stock first.
Just make sure you can get into download mode. Everything else will work out

Hi,
I want to completely revert my n1 to stock because I have to send it back to a service center. My power button is broken again (4th time!).
I installed MIUI so I need to return to a stock rom. I have a backup of my stock rom so that won't be a problem. I also need to return to the stock hboot and repartition it to stock size and uninstall blackrose. And than I need to unroot my phone.
Can I just do this in that order? And what is the stock partition size?
You can uninstall Blackrose with Blackrose.exe. I believe it will set stock partition automatically when uninstalling.
Do you have Vodafone AMOLED Nexus One?
Edit: if you want, you can download this Vodafone Android 2.3.4 (GRJ22) RUU to make it real stock Android.
after uninstalling blackrose.
flash this stock GRK39F 2.3.6 rom

Oke thanks, I have a backup of my stock rom as well. Doesn't that work?
Yes it will, but maybe they wipe it at the service center anyway?
Yes probably, but I just want them to see it's stock. I'm claiming a complete new one anyway! It's the 4th time now, last time they even replaced the mainboard and that was about a month ago.
Is it a Vodafone N1? If yes, did you contact Vodafone or HTC?
Why is the fix not more permanent? Four failures is pretty outrageous. I assumed they would brace the power button flex somehow.

I have Revone, S-OFF, Unlocked, Rooted, and Teamd3rp's Milestone 2 ROM. It is a 1.29 base ROM. I potential want to update to this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477522 but I'm confused about the update process especially due to the whole thing about the file system change. Help would be appreciated!
I'm interested in knowing this as well.
You don't have to do this but if I were you just back up all of your data to your computer incase you run into problems.
Also nandroid and back up to pc. Titanium backup, and wipe like normal then flash your new Rom.
Where people ruin into problems is going back from 4.3 because the data pin the phone gets moved to sdcard/0
