My phone has been working perfectly with JM5 & samset v1.9f with CFlag fix v1.80.
Then the other day I noticed the screen was shaking slightly when I held my finger on the screen, as if it couldn't locate where my finger was correctly. Also it shakes alot more severely while it's charging.
Has anyone heard of this problem before? Could it be a software fault that reflashing firmware will fix, or is it a hardware fault.
Please help!

it's called haptic feedback
it's on by default, you can turn it off from Settings
is that what you mean? or it's something else?
Maybe it's the touch point itself which doesn't register correctly.
Are you using an aftermarket (non-Samsung) charger? I remember reading about someone else having trouble with the touchscreen going bonkers while he was charging the phone on a non-standard charger, which for a capacitive touchscreen might indicate some kind of electrical grounding issue, (edit: or maybe not (link)).
edit: Maybe you can try discharging the screen by wiping it with a soft cloth used for cleaning vinyl records.
I have only ever used the charger that came with the phone, and the usb that came with it to attach it to my laptop.
The problem still exists while it's not charging, it's just alot less severe.
I'm going to have to flash it to stock firmware and hope that fixes it. If not I'll have to send it out to be repaired.
I hate phones sometimes......

I should also add my screen is perfectly responsive, there are no dead zones.
It's as if the touch screen can't tell which part of my finger is touching the screen. For example; If I put my finger flat on the screen rather than the tip of my finger, it shakes alot more.

Thanks for your help, I read the link you posted, very helpful. Maybe the charger was faulty and that damaged my phone overnight?
I tried the charger at someone elses house and the increased screen shaking still occurred. But if I connect it to my laptop by usb, it reacts the same as when it's unplugged.
I will try wiping the screen with a vinyl cloth when I get home. It has got a screen protector on, but I can't imagine that affecting it.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
definitely not the screen protector
i have one installed, and i don't experience those screen shakes you described.
I found this interesting thread about someone having very simular issues: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/te...tions/31237-please-help-droid-has-shakes.html
It hasn't helped in solving the problem, but at least I know I'm not alone with this issue.
Edit
After reading the post more carefully, it seems that this persons issue somehow fixed itself.
Perhaps the best thing to do is check if this issue is covered by warranty (so I can send it to be fixed at a later date if problem is still there) & see if mine fixes itself too...

i used to experience this on my HD2 and Milestone, i must say that the galaxy S'es touch sensor is one of the best and have very seldom experienced this problem.

Yes my problem is simular to that, but it's only that bad when it's charging from the mains.
I'm going to flash to stock firmware tonight. If that doesn't sort it I'll take it to a t-mobile shop & see what they suggest.
Apparently I've got 2 years warranty so if it gets worse rather than 'fixing itself' I can always send it to be repaired. I just don't want them to give me a refurbished one, knowing my luck it will be full of dead pixels...
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Sounds like something interfering with the contact between your finger and the screen, or faulty hardware. ( Screen protector, wet fingers. )
If you are reproducing increased troubles with charger than it may very well be faulty hardware.
I can also attest to the high quality of the Galaxy S's touch screen, it can track 5 points very accurately.
It's not the screen protector as it was working fine with it before Tuesday, when the problem started.
I'm going to flash the firmware tomorrow when I have time, if that doesn't fix it then it must be hardware. I'll report back.

Ok, I flashed JF3 and the problem was still present.
I went to a local T-Mobile shop & showed them the problem. They basically said the phone still functions correctly, and recommended to stick with it and possibly get it repaired if it gets worse at a later date, which I fully agree with as I could get a refurbished phone in a worse state.
I reinstalled JM5, samset v1.9f, and used the update.zip ext4 instead of Cflag fix. I notice for some reason the problem seems less severe, but that might just be imagining it.
Thanks to everyone who helped.

I'd take it to an official samsung service point. There's no way a phone salesman would have a friggin clue about whether or not that's safe. It might make your battery explode and blow your nuts off if theres some shortcircuit in the phone or something...

i had the same problem with another phone. i tried everything. after that i just turned phone off, get all screws out of the back side. i pressed all connectors and after that put the plastic on it, turn the screws back in and restarted my phone. now i never got the problem anymore
NOTE: if youre not sure about what youre doing, ask somebody who know he can!
Kind Regards,
Even though she doesn't remember, I'm pretty sure my wife dropped her nexus one. Now i gotta fix it.
PROBLEM:
1. Camera doesnt work now. It force closes or just shows black screen forever. The camera flash doesn't work either.
2. After hanging up a call, the screen goes black.
3. Extremely weak WIFI reception.
4. Burning through a serious amount of battery power and the antenna gets really hot.
STEPS TAKEN SO FAR:
1. Thought it might be software related so I installed CM7 and the battery issue got better but thats it.
2. Cracked the phone open and checked to make sure nothing got jarred loose during an earthly impact. The camera unit was a bit cocked but it still didn't fix it. Everything else seemed fine.
ALL OUT OF OPTIONS. ANY IDEAS WELCOME. At this point I am prepared to start swapping parts. Any recommendations?

Had the same issue. Send it in to htc, they will fix it for you. PS: Don't worry about the bootloader.
Well thats the other problem. I cant ship the phone because it has a lithium battery in it. I know, sounds wierd. Its a long story but basically I have to attempt a repair myself hence why I'm looking for suggestions.

I would start by replacing the board that the camera Is on. I think it is called the logic board or something similar

A co-worker of mine gave me a touchpad he couldn't fix. He bought it for $50 because the seller said it was bricked.
The original owner said he replaced the battery so I am thinking that it is a hardware problem. Maybe he broke a connection or something?
CM9 was installed.
Here are the symptoms:
-When you turn it on you can see that the backlight is on even though it is a dark screen.
-You can only turn off the backlight by holding down the Power and the Home button.
-Every once in a while you get a vertical column of multi-color static off center to the right.
-Holding down the Power and Volume Up buttons doesn't have any effect
I took the TP completely apart, double checked all the connections when I put it back together.
If it is a software problem how do I unbrick it?
If it is a hardware problem which part needs replacing?
Does a computer sheet it at all? I would probably try the webos doctor program, but I'm just guessing.

Webos doctor doesn't see it. Windows tries to install a driver but it fails.
Ok, I got webos doctor to see it but after 8% of it's process it gives me the message "We were unable to reset your device"
Anyone ever see anything like this?
My guess is that the LCD needs replaced. I've never seen a bricked tp that had anything on the screen. Could be the LCD socket isn't connected all the way.

I thought that might have been the problem too. That is why I took it apart. I checked all the connections by taking them out and putting them in a securely as I could.
I'm thinking that the person who took the screen off the first time pulled the connector the wrong way and screwed up something.
Yeah that's pretty easy to do lol. I screwed up my digitizer control board and I've been working on em for a while.

Do you think that might explain why the back light turns on when it charges? I cannot get the back light to turn off. When I hold down the power and home button it turns off then comes right back a little later.

I helped replace a co workers iPod touch screen that was shattered & had to do it twice. The first screen we replaced we screwed up the ribbon connector and the screen looked very similar to yours. I bet all you have to replace is the LCD too. Good luck!
To preface this, the phone is completely stock and unlocked. I've been using the phone now for about 3 weeks with absolutely zero problems. I plug it in to charge over night, wake up the next morning and it's completely unresponsive.
Won't turn on.
No LED notification light (Green or Amber)
Isn't recognised by my laptop as a disc drive either.
Any ideas, tips or suggestions as to how I can get it working again, short of calling the supplier and getting a replacement?
Thank guys.

Mine just did the same thing today, it discharged very quickly this morning and now it won't even charge at all. Not sure what to do....
My god. This has also happened to me. A few others have also had this problem. Contact HTC and file for a repair/replacement. I did today. Seriously sucks because its a solid phone otherwise.

This is a worrying trend.. So there are no other alternatives just request a repair/replacement?
It really is. I've already contacted my brother, whom is pretty high up in att, about the matter. I'd consider myself a veteran of android and I have had no progress on the fix, it seems only to be hardware. In layman terms, yes you'll have to get it replaced.

How long would the repair take? And would they send you a replacement first, because now I have no phone.....

I'd say about 2 weeks at most. But no, they'll repair or replace the phone depending on the issue. Likely replace.

Only asking because I have never had an issue like this with any of my phones.

drop ship
When speaking to the HTC rep., try tossing around the phrase "can you drop ship a replacement phone?" Ask for a manager if its existence is denied. Once you find someone with enough power to "drop ship" the replacement phone, they'll take your credit card, then immediately send you the replacement phone and a box to ship back the defective phone. If you don't return the bad device, they'll charge your card.
happened to me twice - try holding power button for like 1min - it should turn on then
I opened a thread about this problem, but seems only some people have this defect.
I've had this problem too, it's currently with HTC (UK) to repair or replace. It arrived on Tuesday, still awaiting to hear back.

It seems that my phone isn't dead after all. Holding the power button down does seem to work... It's a strange bug..
I don't get why people turn the phone OFF in the first place? I never turn my phone OFF at all. I sometimes restart the phone but that is it.
I noticed that every once in a while, the touchscreen on my Z1 "skips". i.e., if I draw a straight line with my finger, it will actually come out as a few short lines with a break between them.
I notice it most in the pattern unlock screen. I will draw my pattern, but it will connect 2 dots, jump, connect another 2 dots, jump again, until I get the pattern wrong error, and in the second attempt everything is fine.
Has anyone else experienced that?

This happens every once in a while for me while using Swype keyboard. I thought it was a Swype issue, but if you're having this then maybe it's the phone. Haven't noticed it anywhere else but haven't tested.

I've run into something like this when trying to pull up the pie menu. Normally, sliding up onto the screen from below will trigger the pie menu to pop up (similar to the default "google now" trigger gesture). Every once in a while it'll instead register as a number of taps on whatever is already on that area of the screen (thus triggering some untended action or link most of the time). Of course it won't happen when I'm trying to reproduce it or running some kind of test, but when I least expect it, it happens again.
To verify this issue you can also try going to: Settings, About Phone (last entry on the bottom), Diagnostics, Test Device, Touchscreen.
If the recorded line really does skip you should contact your reseller/ Sony.
If it is just an occasional error it might be Software and not Hardware related. I have not had this problem yet, though.
Oh finally so it's not me alone. Great phone but this single problem lets it down. I'm suspecting a lot ppl have it and dont realise. Not everyone uses swype keyb or swype pattern unlock.
My suspicion is the sony screen protector fitted at factory. Tempted to rip it off.

Hey guys I'm having the same problem, too! Which firmware version were you guys using? Because I think the newest firmware .257 has problems has touch I will try to revert to .524 and update you guys later
EDIT : Okay, I have just went back to 524 firmware to test and I can confirm that the problem still persists.
No problem here, maybe it's related to screen protector?
Ok now

Hi, is your problem fixed? havent tried changing my screen guard.
Nope not really even though I was convinced at first. Problem comes and goes randomly.
My real issue is using Swype and it's driving me mad. As a workaround if I use my thumb it works fine. Must be the amount of surface contact while I swype.

So is hardware problem and will never be fixed?
For few weeks I never saw that problem on mine so I was not worry about it but today I tested few nice games and I realized that after a minute playing the game (Minimotor or HAWX) the virtual joystick stopping working. I have to retouch the joystick with my hand or take off my hand from the phone. All the time.
This is bad, so the Flagship Device is comming to be a Crap Device.
