[Q] Soft Bricked? Stuck at Samsung Logo - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
A few days back i decided to play with my aging Samsung Galaxy S I9000, trusting sticky threads to be reliable i followed "Getting most from SGS"
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939752
and rooted my phone which went very smoothly then i thought of adding call recording files from the same thread to try call recording option, when i copied those files to my system/lib directory phone became unstable and i turned it off only to find it being stuck at Samsung Galaxy S logo. Then i learnt after reading all of that thread that people were having same issues and that those links were for froyo not for gingerbread. This should have been mentioned in the sticky thread.
Anyway i tried almost everything to make it boot but couldn't, googled a lot (for 2 days) on this forum and on net but without success as most links which were given on many sites were already dead so i decided to flash Cyanogen Mod 10 ROM but there is always error 7 and aborts.
Althoug i am able to get to recovery and to download mode but can't seem to install anything working. I tried downloading Stock firmwares but those have only one zip file, i don't know how to flash (by odin?).
Kindly can someone please help me get out of this situation i will be really grateful.
Thanks

Ok, thanks for help, i managed to flash cyanogenmod at last. Kindly tell me how can i install the stock firmware that i downloaded and has only one zip file. thanks

If you can boot to download mode, you should flash a firmware from sammobile.com via Odin (not a zip file, unpack the zip and follow the instructions above!)

Just flash a stock firmware with Odin and everything is gonna be alright. There are many tutorials how to flash with Odin, so you shouldn't have trouble finding how. Also, I recommend you try SuperNexus ROM. Great overall ROM. Better and more stable than cyanogen IMO. Oh, and just in case, remember to back up your efs folder at /efs as it will save your phone if you lose your IMEI for some reason. Hope I helped!

[Q] i9000 tried to flash CM9...kinda fsck'ed

[email protected],
after successfully flashing CM9 to my Defy I convinced my friend to go to ICS as well...so far so good/bad!
I followed the guide to install CMW recovery and did a backup of the stock ROM.
After this I copied CM9 nightly and the google apps package to the internal memory...apperantely the zip package of the google apps was bad, so i tried to boot into CM9..it took a damn long time, so I removed the battery (OK, bad move...but so be it don't bit*h about it!)..CM9 booted but said someting about "encryption of the storage failed..please do a factory wipe"......I did so, using CWM recovery...which ended me up in a boot loop without having access to CMW recvry.
So I thought, flashing the zImage again with heimdall will have the bootloader rewritten (maybe the 2nd bad move this day) so I can access recovery again...I imagined zImage was kinda like a BIOS of a PC...apparently it is NOT
After some google-f00 I found out I have to flash an official FW from samsung, with repartitioning, using odin, am I right?
But the probel is, that they tell me to do a *#7465625# to find out details about the stock firmware...but this is not bossible because the phone hangs at the galaxy s boot logo.
So my question is...what can I do to access either recovery or the stock firmware with a phone stuck at boot logo (i can boot into download mode) and having only a nandroid backup of the stock rom?
Can anybody tell me what to do without spending 200 coins to obtain another SGS for my friend (Yeah, I told him that the risk is to brick the SGS, but I have a kind of guilty conscience.
Hope someone can help...
Thanks a lot!
Odin doesnt care about whats currently on your phone . Just go to samfirmware. Com, find a nice stock rom (2.3.3) for i9000, and flash it with odin. If you dont know how to use odin: use the search button in the i9000 section ''how to use odin''. keep us updated / or if you have any other questions

hey
when i screwed my sgs, odin + darky ressurection rom helped
i can't post a link , google "Darkys_v9.2_Resurrection_Edition.zip" ,though i can't remember if i used that version. some got removed, try to look for a sourceforge link. That still works
and see the reply above how to use odin
Hey,
There are also lots of tutorials on youtube, and other sites to show how to flash an original rom. I also screwed up my install of CM9. And then I followed this guide to get the original rom running again.
w w w.theandroidsoul.com/download-install-xxjvs-firmware-update-galaxy-s-i9000-to-android-2-3-5/
After that, use this link for rooting + CWM:
w w w.theandroidsoul.com/root-xxjvs/
Greets from Holland !
PS: can't link -_- so you have to copy and paste the URL.

hmmm... i read from another site there are some custom rom that requires the phone to be in a rooted stock rom or another custom rom...
example:
to install Galaxy S GT I9000 with Orange Amestris v7.3 ROM Custom Firmware you need to be on stock XWJW1 or XXJVU Firmware since the baseband of "amestris" would be on xwjw1 or xxjvu or custom rom with the same baseband...
what stock rom/firmware the phone was in anyway?im guessing gingerbread stock rom? you still got a chance to update it right since you can access download mode...
from what i can remember, i updated my boyfrnd's s2 from gingerbread to official ics from "sammobile".com (remove quote)
then updated it to a custom rom...
well this might be irrelevant but this is how i updated my galaxy s:
well on my galaxy s i updated it from gingerbread stock rom rooted to gingerbread miui then to ics miui andy's version, since im on ics i have successfully tried different ics custom rom like darknight, slimics, elite etc...
hope this kinda help =]
Thanks a lot...I flashed the original firmware (it didn't start properly, but I don't care) and with this was able to flash the zImage again...then I was able to access bootloader and reinstall CM9

Unbrick Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000

Having looked at the thread regarding a similar predicament that I have (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1783556), I'm keen to know I can use ODIN to put on a new ROM. Basically these are the steps I've followed;
1. Used KIES to update my ROM from Gingerbread to ICS
2. Use ODIN to update root my phone with CM9 safe kernel (not knowing it would have been significantly better to have copied my new AOKP ICS ROM to the internal SD card first)
3. Rebooted my phone and cannot get past 'SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE GT-N7000' logo.
4. I can still boot into download mode and use ODIN but wondered how I should use it to install a ROM as none of the ROM's I've downloaded, are in the correct .tar, md5, smd format, that OSIN is looking for ?
Some pretty basic reading for you: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321268

First of all, I'm not sure if this is the answer your looking for, but here is it anyway.
IN PC ODIN, there is a 'PDA' button (same button you flashed your kernel to), you need to download the ROM's zip file and flash it from there.
Stock ROM file you download is zip, you need to extract it one time to get into .tar, then you can use that file with pda of odin.

Would these be the files needed to get my phone back up and running? I am new to Android and screwed my phone up after a factory reset, now it just reads downloading for ages and does nothing. I still get a screen that reads Hyperdroid RedPill Recovery when i power on with volume button up pressed. Volume down I get Android man and it reads downloading but does nothing.
I have looked all over for this situation but seem to get a piece here and there and not the exact same issue all in one so I am reluctant to just do something and make it worse.
Please advise
That is downloading mod, it won't do anything but remain as it is, if you don't do anything.
You need to connect you device to PC in this state and have to use odin
Read 1st line on my sign and read post#2, you will get full instruction, how to use odin.

[Q] Stuck in bootloop after reverting to Gingerbread from CM 10

Hello everyone.
I have a problem which I hope you'll be willing and able to help with.
I wanted to try out CyanogenMod 10 on my Galaxy S I9000. I was on 2.3.3 so I used Odin to update to 2.3.6 (rooted). Then I installed superuser and mod manager, after which I installed Clockwork. I then used Clockwork to install CM 10. It worked flawlessly and this was my first time flashing ever.
However, I didn;t like CM 10 and decided to revert back to Gingerbread. I read it was as easy as simply using Odin to flash 2.3.6 again. I tried that but got stuck into a bootloop displaying the S sign over and over and over again. I tried downloading the PIT file which made Odin check Repartition by default and flashing like that but it didn't help, I'm still stuck in bootloop. I can access download mode without a problem but I'm stuck in bootloop forever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
Update: I found a thread detailing how to get back to Froyo so I tried it. I used a PIT file, PDA file, PHONE file and CSC file all separately and it worked. Now I'll just have to update back to 2.3.6 No idea why I was only able to revert back to Froyo and not Gingerbread, but it worked, thread can be closed.
Hey,
Bit of a late answer, but so you can refer to it if you ever go back to custom roms.
When you come back to stock from CM10, or any custom rom for that matter, you need to flash in a file named dbsdata.rfs.tar. Fixes the bootloops (custom roms and stock have different data partitions so incompatibilities in data partition cause bootloops like yours)

[Q] bricked N7000. how to get working again

I tried upgrading my international N7000 to CM10.3 following the instructions in

but now the phone won't even boot into the recovery, all it shows is
Samsung
GALAXY Note
GT-N7000

/ | \
/--*-\
When i tried flashin from my Mac iusing Heimdall,
the download finished on the mac, but on the N7000
it still showed the blue line etc. I waited a lng time and tried
rebooting, but got the above.
Re-flashing in Heimdall had no effect.
I then tried flashing
hardcore-speedmod-ics-recovery-n7000.tar
using Odin 3.185 from my VMwars Fusion XP install,
and that seemed to finish ok, but no luck either.
I looked for the latest CWM 6.0.4.3 recovery, but I cannot find any
odin-flashable format for it, and of course I cannot use the sdcard
as I cannot even boot into any recovery as is.
Can anyone suggest next steps?

1st things 1st. Why would u use heimdall or odin? And what is your current ROM before trying to flash CM 10.3, was it stock? You should have looked for CWM recovery or Philz safe kernels as base when doing ROM flashing ESPECIALLY custom roms. From what you said, then can you still boot into download mode? I have no knowledge of heimdall so just download Stock Firmware, flash it with odin and see if you can boot your N7000 first.
The worst case scenarios is you are experiencing emmc bug-brick. go to the thread and read carefully to deduce your type of 'brick' and find solutions there. Good Luck.
I was on a stock 4.0.4 (but rooted). I originally tried flashing the cwm from the sd card, but after starting to load it it also just hung,
so I looked for an alternative..
I found a post on stockroms (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997) but the links all point to hotfile.com. which my browser says it cannot find. is hotfile dead? Is there an alternative?

I'm sorry so did u succeed or did you not succeed in installing the custom rom? If your custom rom boots fine then all u need is to search for solving status 7 error thread. My advice to all noobs is to always try n avoid installimg anything except stock rom in odin. Always read and re read before flashing anything that's beyond your knowledge. Basic knowledge of flashing cusroms is :
1. ALWAYS make sure you're on SAFE and COMPATIBLE KERNEL. Most rom threads ALWAYS Include threads/links to a specific recovery/kernel to use. Read n RE READ that.
2. Wipe everything IN RECOVERY mode before flashing a rom.

If you're able to boot up properly n prompted to wipe, then do it. But do it in recovery not on device.
Ok, I downloaded one of the stock kernels for my internatinal N7000, but flashing that with Odin 3.185 hangs about 3/4 through (has now been
sitting there for >60 mins).
Looks like I am screwed?
The file I found is KIES_HOME_N7000XXLT4_N7000OXALT4_1103517_REV02_user_low_ship.tar.md5
I f I wanted to try flashing this with Heimdall, I'd need to know partition numbers I think
Where can I get those?
Or should I get another file?

Before that, do u have KIES installed? KIES is NOT compatible with odin and will cause potential trouble. So is some firewall and antivirus apps. You need to disable all of them before using odin. Please search the thread http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ for stock rom site.

Of course you fail... When using ODIN, U should have downloaded the .tar. if you downloaded a zip. then unzip it first to get the tar file, then you flash it with odin. All requests are included in the stock.tar And PLEASE DO NOT Play with PIT files if you don't know what you are doing.
So now what you need to do is. :
1. DISABLE KIES (Uninstall it better), Your firewall, antivirus.
2. Install CORRECT Samsung USB driver. (Search keyword "download samsung N7000 usb drivers")
3. Unzip your zip file and extract the tar.file.
4. Run ODIN as Administrator (Right click/run as)
5. Go to download mode. connect your device to Pc/laptop.
6. Wait until Odin detects your device, click AP/PDA and choose the tar file you extracted.
7. DO NOT tick partition.
8. Let it run
Of course I unzipped the zip to get a SINGLE .tar.md5, but flashing that fails on factoryfs about 3/4 through. consistently.

Downgrade E3 To E2 Recovery
hello again
I'm trying to downgrade recovery mode from E3 To E2, ive searched and read a few of the threads but I'm still unsure what do to
I've got a...
GT I9000 (international sim free)
Firmware
2.2
Baseband
I9000xxjpp
Kernal Version
2.6.32.9
Build Number
Froyo.xxjpo
I was gonna open CF-Root-XX_XEU_JPO-v1.2-busybox-1.17.1 in odin and hit PDA.
theres a few conflicting guides on how and what to do and a few of the guide take me to links that want to install stuff on my pc etc which i dont trust.
some links say it will work as i decribed there others say you need a stock recovery file or an e2 recovery file for the Froyo.
im lost with how to proceed, can anyone help or link me to the files i need please?
Thank's Xai
E2 is totally outdated thing, why would you need that?
What is your point, what do you desire to install?

Hello Tetakpataki hope your good & thank's for your reply :good:
i was trying to apply the lag fix but it wouldn't install cos i was in recovery E3 and kept geting the "E Signature" failed error
Ive since flashed my phone with "speedmod-kernel-k13c-500hz.tar" and can now access E2 recovery but I'm now stuck in clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.0 speedMod ULFK.
When i flashed it it auto check repartition i didn't notice till it was too late.
Every time i try to start the phone it goes to "clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.0 speedMod ULFK" screen and i cant get out it, i can still get into download mode, but the phone wont boot up normaly
Ive flashed with bootloader "i9000 boot.tar.md5" but that didn't work i change the extension to "i9000 boot.tar" it flashed but i still goto recovery.
Ive read through a lot of threads and guides a lot of the links to files i apparently need are down
I'm at a total loss as what i can do now? i cant find the froyo stock rom or the bootloader either (international version) can someone help me out please?

I finally got it fixed
Hello
I finally found a copy of the I9000XXJPO firmware (the other night) and flashed my phone with it.
the phone was getting stuck on the S slash screen.
But to fix that i flashed it with I9000 dbdata.rfs file (as i had a few E fail errors showing in recovery mode too) and it booted up fine after that.
I'm all up and running again
A Huge Thank's...
To All The Folk & developers, who spend a lot of time on the software, & contributed the guides and files to the forum
Great Work!! :good:
Your's Sincerely
Xai
