Does anyone else have this problem? I get a lot of lag and the screen freezes several times after opening the camera. Sometimes the phone freezes upon pushing the shutter button also.
The storage location is set to SD. I had to change it a while back; the phone would completely freeze when trying to save a video to internal memory. I had to power it down.
I am rooted but on the stock rom. I have removed some ATT bloat, but otherwise all stock.

I've been thinking that or low read_ahead_kb values....or the sd just needs to be formatted. Fat is a crappy and easily corruptible file system.
//We could be using ext2, since ya know, Windows has ext2 drivers and all, but using a Linux based files system on a Linux based devices just doesn't make sense.
//PAC suffers from low read_ahead_kb values.....
Yes, I think a simple format will fix it...

Hey all,
Sorry if i sound dumb, but i can't quite figure out what these lag fixes do, or if i should try to put one on my device. I've tried to read the threads pertaining to the lag fixes but all the ext2 ext4 stuff confuses me haha. In my mind i picture it fixing the delay on the 4 buttons (menu, home, back, search).
If anyone could break it down for me i'd very much appreciate it
Thanks
One of things it does is makes those button 2-3x faster. Also i think it makes the general experience of the phone a lot more smoother from what i have noticed.

Ahh i guess i shoulda followed my gut, or just tired it haha. Thanks for the heads up, i think i'm gonna try it right now
Ok so i just ran the one click lag fix. I can't say i notice a difference in pressing the bottom buttons but to make myself feel better i downloaded that quadrant thing, ran it and it gave me a score of 2264. Now i have no idea what that proves but at least i don't feel bad now about applying the lag fix lol
Sometimes the phone seems to lag or hesitate at times if you press a button, open an application, etc. These are the "lags" the fixes are addressing. It's literally taking the phone longer than it could to read and write files on the device.
The lag fixes move your system files into a different file system (sort of like a virtual drive on PC's, all done in software.) Samsung uses a file system called rfs, which is running very slowly on these phones. Lag fixes use different file systems from Linux, such as ext2 or ext4, which perform better.
The risk in using a lag fix (albeit small) is that your data might become corrupted if you don't shut down your phone properly; for example, say if you pulled the battery while the phone is running.
I hope that helps you understand what they do better.

This was a perfect explanation. I saw someone who was wanting to make a new guide, i suggest you send that exact post to him. If i can understand it anyone can haha.
This does raise some questions now though,
1. I know it can now be corrupted but is this on the internal or external sd card? 2. Once corrupt what exactly is stored in this location (if i remember right i had to chose a size to apply this lag fix to)?
3. Is this a corruption like i can just reflash a rom and everything is back to stock, or is that piece completely broken?
Thanks again =)
Just wanted to see if anyone is having trouble with this. I have all my pics stored on an SD card and every once in a while, when i try to open the stock gallery app, it takes a long time (sometimes up to 15-20s) to come back.
i originally thought it was slow sd card. I upgraded sd card to class 10 and still see the issues. FYI...AnTuTu benchmark has SD Card write/read at 14.8MB/s and 17.5MB/s respectively.
Has anyone seen this before?

Haven't had that issue yet. Did you try to clear the program cache?

I have this happen a lot too. I don't think it takes as long as 15-20 seconds but it takes a whlie to load up the first time. Then when I got back to the gallery it's pretty instant. I'm guessing cuz it's already loaded up. I think O/Cing it helps with the load time.
it did help after OC'ing. and i still get it even after i have previously loaded the gallery.
yes, i've cleared out the cache too.

That's weird. Do you have Rom Toolbox? Maybe try applying the SD card boost and see if that helps. It shouldn't be taking you that long every time. Maybe the first time it loads but after when you open it up again in a couple minutes it should be much faster.
just freeze the gallery and download quickpic, waaaay better
installed spc_hicks's tweak and seems to be working better now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420828
i'll try other apps
Mine would take upwards of a minute sometimes to get all my galleries loaded. Manually (through settings) would unmount and remount and that seemed to help. Never figured out why, silly phone...

well...i think it might have been words with friends again. seems to happen whenever i play that game.

i tried almost every ics rom and at start they all were very fast but after some time they become much much slow. any solution for this
Can this be because of your installed applications and overall system debris.

No not like that. I installed vry few apps but stil it gets slow. I tried Docs rom, slim rom even every 1 but they all get slow after some time. I always do full wipe and than instal clean fresh rom

Try restarting your phone, wiping up all the cache. Maybe this might help.

I have exactly the same problem. Wiping cashe through CWM doesn't change anything, it still gets slower after a few hours or a day max.
I have SE xperia neo v, rooted, unlocked bootloader, rom pureness 11, kernel nightelf 1.4. It gets so slow it actually refreshes/crashes (not sure) ex launcher pro and I can't do anything but reboot. Then everything is great and very fast at the beginning and then gets slower.
There is about 70mb RAM both at the beginning and later when it gets slow so I suppose it's not the full ram problem? CPU is also mostly free, I check if games are not running in background so that is not the problem as well. Internal space: about 85mb free and a few GB free on SD.
I have lots of apps installed (about 50) but I think it would slow my mobile from the very beginning after reboot?
Any advice?
I'm no expert on these devices, but I can tell you what I do to help with this problem... I simply hold the home button down until the recent apps show and then slide them off the screen. My phone runs OK for a few hours until I rinse and repeat...

Thanks, I will try it when the phone gets slow again and let you know it it helped.
Edit:
Nope, that's not it at all. Deleted everything from recent apps the way you told. Go launcher EX is right now turning on and off constantly, most of apps that are usually open have long since closed themselves. I have to reboot, there's nothing else I can do.
Edit 2:
I have deleted a few apps that I don't or rarely use and 4/5 of games I had. It stopped crashing my launcher and I don't have to reboot anymore. So I guess it was just too many apps and games (unless on the way I've done sth else that helped that I'm not aware of).
I recently moved to HellyBean. It has behaved fabulously on my Captivate. But I'm not sure I want to stay here because of one issue - without killing it (by hand or automatically), the media scanner runs continuously now (continuous 100% cpu usage). This takes the battery down really, really fast. When I have the process killed, battery life is extraordinary!
But I'd like to solve this if possible. Is there a chance it isn't HellyBean or JellyBean related (the way the multiple copies of music was an ICS issue)? The fact that no one else reports anything similar would make me think it's possible. If so, can anyone suggest what might be the issue.
Or what might be the other problems I might anticipate with the media scanner off. It sees my music, and seems to play everything. Camera works fine.
I did a scandisk of my removable SD, and it found no errors, and still gives the same issue on scanning - never stops.
This happened to me on GB with Corn Kernel 7.06a. I booted into recovery, cleared both dalvik cache and system cache, then booted and media scanner went through its startup normally.
you orobably know this:
it takes a long time to boot the first time after clearing caches. just wait for it to finish.

Thanks for the idea. Thought I had probably tried it before, but it was worth another shot. Unfortunately, it didn't work. CPU usage still pegs out at 100% until I shut her down.
maybe try freezing media storage app with TiBu or system tuner then reboot. Then you can troubleshoot without cpu tied up?
have you booted with external sd card removed?
if you can't freeze it due to cpu tied up, then boot into recovery, turn off init.d, syscontrl tweaks, oc, and whatever else to see if it helps.

Two good ideas. The external sd was fine. But I had some crap in the init.d (I don't know how, I thought I had cleared it on the flash) that wasn't decipherable. Deleted that, booted up, and it's fine now. Mega thanks.
Problem is cleared - thread can be closed now, moderator.

Freeze as in, for a few seconds, or until you open the app?
Hey,
I've noticed (hardly couldn't miss it) the problem on my SP too. Allthough it happened more frequently then you've reported.
I have triend every single firmware version and different music players, but nothing seemed to solve the problem.
I haven't tried it with a different SD card. Do you play your music from SD card and did you try different SD cards?
I'm using a 64GB Sandisk ultra SD, but unless that is faulty I cant see why that should be the problem. Also my phone doesn't skip music or songs so that eliminates the possibility of a broken SD card for me I guess.
At the moment my phone is in for repair, dead pixels on the camera image sensor, but I told them to have a look at the music problem too.
Any thoughts on how this problem could occur?

i dont think its sd card's problem...im using a 32GB one! but when player pro freezes also the walkman app cant play music neither from sd card nor internal storage!
Oke, well still I'm wondering. But it might be a different problem then. Mine starts playing again after 15-30 seconds. Sometimes it wont play until I reboot.
Let's hope Sony knows anything about this problem.
Have you tried flashing a new firmware?
Edit: I see you already flashed another rom, almost looks like a hardware defect as in my case the ram never was full when this happened. Nor was it before I started playing music. Somebody? Any knowledge to share?

I also have the problem with the walkman freezing. The problem occurs when I'm in an app doesn't matter which one (only tested it with the eBay and email app) and press the home button, at this moment the music freezes. When I open the walkman app again the app begins again at the first song. This won't happen if I use the back button instead of the home button, very strange.
I use:
Stock rom and kernel (rooted).
Nova launcher prime.
Greenify donation version.
Xposed framework with xblast tools and advanced power menu.

Even on stock settings, the RAM clears itself at quite the high threshold.
