{Howto} - Wanna play NES with Wii remote on your ThunderBolt? Here's how.

Ever since the my Incredible days I enjoyed toting a Wii remote on trips for playing NES, Snes and so on. I always envied the EVO for being able to do it with that massive screen. It ony really needed a kickstand and it be the perfect pocket gaming machine. Well ever since I got the ThunderBolt I hoped one day it would be possible. Thanks to Slayer and Cyanogen 7 Mod plus all the other hard working Devs this is now a reality.
Here We Go !
Tools needed
Must be ROOTED !
Wii remote MUST be OEM except the Mini Wii remote. :: Only ones I found to work, no Nyko's:: - Optional, this is not needed to play
Cyanogen 7 Mod :: I run update-cm-7.1.0-RC0.1, why? because CM uses Bluetooth Stack 2.0 unlike stock sense or other roms, Gingerbread Natively does not even run this that I know of.

ROMS :: FInd it.........Yourself, don't be Lazy or ask me, all of the above items are free. you can afford to find these on your own.
If you don't have a Wiimote you can stop right here and use onscreen controls with Nesoid.
OK onto the fun !
First things first, install everything
1. Turn bluetooth on
2. Go into keyboard settings in menu and enable the Wii IME for the controller
3. Go into a message or email, somewhere you can type, long press and select input method, then select Wii controller.
4. Go to your Wii controller app and select Init and Connect
5. Hit the Sync button on the controller ::located under battery door, red button:: or press buttons 1 and 2 at the same time. all the blue lights on the Wii remote should flash now. The phone should find your Wii remote and set player number 1 light to lit. Press some Wii controller buttons, you should see them register on screen.
6 Ok almost good to go, the settings are remembered from this point on, go into nesoid load a Rom up, hit menu on your phone, go to settings Audio/Video set the Aspect Ratio to 16:9
7.Back out one click and go to Other Settings, Check the check box labeled Use Input Method.
8. Go back another click again, go to Input Settings Uncheck Virtual Keypad check box.
9. Go to keymappings in the same menu tap under Pad 1 your button you want to input then hit the corrisponding button on your Wii remote.
10. Back out till you get to the game you loaded and have fun!
Other Notes ::
When you're done playing you wil have to go into a message and select your keyboard Input method to your Keyboard in order to be able to type again.
This setup can also be used with the Classc retro Wii remote plugged into the Wii controller.
This will also work with Snesoid, Genoid, GBA, N64oid, and PSX Emultators.
PS3 and Xbox 360 controllers CAN'T be used. Why? because I said so.....No in reality, Sony encrypts PS3's bluetooth protocol. So till a Dev releases a new App to decode it you're out of luck. Xbox 360 uses 2.4 GHZ Technology not Bluetooth so nope will not work.
Shout out to Slayer and his Wife along with all the other Devs working on the ThunderBolt. Thank you for all the hard work you do to bring us Cyanogen 7 Mod and making things like this possible.

I'm pretty sure you can set the Wiimote program to revert back to the default keyboard when you turn off Bluetooth or turn off your Wiimote. I'm probably going to do this at some point this week (or just wait for the "stable" CM7), since this is what I miss most from my OG Droid.

You can't, far as I remember this has been dropped due to the security type Sony uses to encrypt the Bluetooth signal on Ps3 controllers. The protocol only recently was figured out where it can easily be connected on PC. So if even close to possible a dev would still need to develop a app capable of decoding and then recognizing inputs from the Ps3 controller.
before it's asked - Why can't I use a Xbox360 Controller? it does not use Bluetooth, it uses 2.4 GHZ signal.
You're welcome to all those that had success, I know how hard it is to find a detailed guide with setup info. Ths is what i figured out from my own tinkering.
As for Cm7 stable version, Cm7 is very stable, I had alot of issues with the new release but tried the .1 version from Slayer's Twitter and low and behold I had no more bugs and Cm7 runs almost flawless. I say almost cause I have not found any bugs yet but i'm sure there are some.
If Wii controller is able to remember settngs like tha let me know , i'll gladly update the guide.

Ok, thanks. I figured it wasn't anymore, that's why everything I was getting was from 3+ years ago.

now if only we could get emulators to work with dlna and use the thunderbolt as a portable gaming system for compatible tv sets

I connected my PS3 controller to my PC back in 08, it was running XP. It wasn't hard, I only did it for the novelty of it, never used it for emulators

Yea but the issue was you needed Glove Pie, a compatible bluetooth adapter, the script for Glove Pie. It was more a hassle then anything. Now I heard you can use Xpadder with a one click connect buton.

Bluetooth Tethering v Wifi Hotspot

Currently been using my Nexus with my GSII and bluetooth tethering for internet access, thinking that bluetooth being lower powered, short range, its probly less demanding on the phones battery.
Does this still apply to modern devices with combined radios?
Also has anyone found a widget to connect/reconnect to a paired bluetooth device?
I think the nexus is going to deep sleep, and closes the connection to the phone. But it doesn't bring it back when it wakes...which means its Settings>Bluetooth>Click on Phone...which is 2 clicks too many!

just got it set up, it works great! Thanks for this, I was using Wi-fi tether the other day, killed all 3 of my batteries

I've been using WiFi tether at work; are you guys saying that using Bluetooth tether is less cumbersome on the battery?

I've been trying bluetooth tether all day today.
I have GSM Galaxy Nexus running official 4.1.1
Nexus 7, on 4.1.1 also.
I get them bluetooth paired up and bluetooth tethered via the Galaxy Nexus' cell data.
It works for like a minute then after that, they would disconnect (unpair from bluetooth).
Been doing this all day long every time I try.
Also the 2 are only 3ft away.
Any Ideas?

Same setup, and same issue.
On a side note is there a way to use NFC to automatically pair the two devices via Bluetooth? I'd like to just touch them together and voila they are paired?

Just to pair normally? No.
But if you beam a picture, it auto turns on the bt, pairs, sends the picture, then turns off bt. The two devices does not have to be paired up beforehand either.
Google did show off new feature of NFC/BT at Google I/O during the sessions.
They showed off headphones and speakers that when you touch your JB device to the headphone/speaker, it auto pairs and audio starts playing.
So yes it's possible to auto pair devices, but those other devices need to support it.

This is a known bug with the galaxy nexus phone. It will kill BT tether when the phone goes into sleep.
Download an app called wake lock from the play store and set a partial wake lock and the problem will go away.
Your battery drain will be slightly higher though.

So far it seems to be, which it should as Bluetooth is a short range low powered protocol.
I wasn't sure that with the modern design in phones, when the radio's are all one chip, if the power saving would still apply.

Try turning off your WiFi before pairing....I think that worked for me

Are you guys using that PDAnet and FoxFi setup in order to pair the devices? Thats the only way I can bt pair my galaxy nexus and nexus 7 together.

mmm, nope its native feature in the Resurection Remix rom I'm using on my GSII

Not having any luck installing PDANet 3.5 on the Nexus 7, any ideas?
Got FoxFi installed on my HTC Desire and ticked Bluetooth DUN. Can pair it to tablet but tablet doesn't get any Internet access, so need PDANet installed for that I think.
Edit: PDANet 2.20 on the market was installable, bluetooth tethering working ok now. Really old version though...
Further edit: Looks like it is "PDANet Tablet" version I'm using, hence the confusion. 2.20 appears to be the latest one.

Just tested BT tethering on my N7 with my SGS2 (which was using wifi at the time). Worked perfectly. I did a quick speedtest and got 750kbps down and 1500kbps up (weird wifi...). I was shocked I would get such good speeds over BT. Anyway, I like this option better then a wifi hotspot. First, it's easier to setup. Second, it (apparently) uses less power. And third, it will allow me to access some special hotspots I might not get on my tablet. For example, with AT&T, they give you free hotspot access at some locations with their devices. I wouldn't be able to use my tablet there directly, but could daisy chain through the phone. Coolbeans.

Bluetoothkeepalive works to keep the bluetooth connection for bluetooth tethering. Just trying it out and hasn't dropped yet over about 15 minutes.

I have installed pdanet and fifox on my HTC sensation. I can connect the Bluetooth from my nexus 7 to the sensation but I can't get internet access. I checked the setting in the Nexus "Use for internet access" but still nothing.
What else should I try?

Go on the tablet, into Bluetooth, and you should see your phone in there, click on it. It'll then say connected. You'll get internet access.

I have now noticed that the bluetooth connection does drop after a minute or so, which can be a little annoying.
I'll try bluetoothkeepalive.
Another good app to get is Bluetooth Auto Tethering, it keeps tethering as an option on every time your phone boots, no extra interaction on the phone to enable tethering every time. Just enable/disable the connection from the tablet to automatically turn tethering on/off on your phone!

You might try going to Settings - More - Tethering & portable hotspot - check wi-fi hotspot and configure

You are right about that, I got stuck on doing that yesterday. As for the general discussion about bluetooth tethering vs. wifi tether. I tried it out today and I can say its much better on the battery life, but the speed is pretty low. I keep doing a speed test on my phone and couldn't get over 1.48 Mbps, then tried wifi tether and was easily getting over 5Mbps.

Quick explanation of my setup. I have a Galaxy note 3 that I use for my phone, and I connect to my pioneer 8500 BHS stereo in my car as phone. I have a sprint HTC that sits in my glovebox and is used only for the app mirroring with App radio unchained. I need to have both connected by Bluetooth at the same time, the galaxy as phone and the HTC as media. This paring worked fine previously when I used a galaxy s2 instead of the HTC in my glovebox.
Problem: the HTC Bluetooth does not have the option on the phones Bluetooth menu to choose what type of connection you want to use. On the S4 I could choose, under Bluetooth options, if I wanted to use it for media or phone, but the HTC does not have those options, I only see phone.
If I connect my Note 3 first as phone, then the HTC will connect as media, and sometimes that will work great, other times app radio will not recognize that Bluetooth is connected at all, most times after I turn my car off and on. Other times ill restart my car and the HTC will connect first, and then my note 3 wont be able to connect at all.
Question: is there a sprint HTC ROM (or something else I can install) that includes the Bluetooth options that allow you to specify on the phone what mode you want connected for Bluetooth (the MHL must work for this rom as well)? if not any other suggested solutions? ive tried a few different roms, and stock, all that I have tried have this same issue. ive tried badboyz, beanstalk, viper one, and one or two others.

Have you tried searching the Play Store for helpful apps that might be able to handle this? I haven't checked, but it is the first place that you should check.
And FYI, I know just what you are talking about. Funny enough, I think that Sense 4+ allowed you to differentiate...however, I'm not entirely sure.

the GPE rom gives the option, it's not sense but it works even with mhl

[Q] Wii U Pro Controller + Lolipop 5.0.1?

Good morning/afternoon/evening all,
For the last several hours, I've been trying to pair my Wii U Pro controller to my phone and I've tried all (including that bluetooth fix app that was all in Japanese) and nothing seems to work. I even tried the regular Wii controller app just to be sure.
I've actually contacted Nintendo and the device was not actually given a PIN to use on devices, just the Wii U.
So my question is:
Is there any way to pair the device without the PIN? The phone recognizes it instantly, however obviously no PIN combination works.
Specs of Phone:
Note 4 [Canadian] Rooted
TEKXodus N4
Bluetooth works fine with regular devices (with PIN)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Experience with AA Mirror on XZ1 Compact?

Hello,
I am asking if someone have some experience with AA Mirror (MirrorLink for not officially supported phones) on XZ1 Compact.
I am basically asking if someone have tried it, if it works or works reliable or not. Usage will be simple only for GPS navigation - Sygic. Nothing more.
Reason is that to get AA Mirror on XZ1 Compact i need to root and unlock bootloader on quite a new phone, that still have about 14 months of remaining warranty period. So I would like to know if its worth of it.
Any info will be appreciated!

I'd like to know this, too. I was going to get a MirrorLink screen this week until I realized this phone probably doesn't support it natively...anyway, does AA Mirror do anything non-rooted?

I havent tried it, but since it needs low level USB access, I am sure it wont do anything, maybe not even install.
Problem is that MirrorLink support is really weak. Sony does not support it at all, and e. g. Samsung only on flagship models.
I still guess that I have to try it, not really appreciate it. I hoped that this forum section is more alive.

I have been using AA Mirror daily for the past 3 months. About one or two times a week the connection to Android auto is lost and I have to replug the phone in, or my car stops responding to touch response. This usually doesn't happen when I use regular AA apps. That's about the only issue I have and I haven't tried changing settings to fix it because it doesn't happen too often, everything works well enough for me to keep using it.
Edit: I'm actually using AAStream, a version that should fix some bugs

Were there any special steps for getting it work ? Except of root of course.

Ok, I just realized that this isn't actually MirrorLink. It's just outputs Android Auto, not MirrorLink. OP, you got my hopes up for nothing...
Anyway, my searching indicates that non-rooted AA Mirror kind of works for mirroring only. The touch input doesn't, so you have to do it via the phone screen.

I know that. As far as I searched, for full and true MirrorLink you need to have manufacturer support out of the box. No one actually figured how to implement this on other phones. I guess that it requires custom kernel module or something closed source.
AA Mirror or AA Stream is sort of solution for other phones, but it works as screen mirroring utility only (you have to control everything from phone, not from car). I really dont mind, especially for GPS I always set up destination or changing it while not driving. So basic screen mirror is enough.
I already installed AA Stream / AA mirror and it really requires root. Without it doesnt work, which I have expected.

Yes all on XZ1 compact. And no special steps, but have to add I'm on the LineageOS rom. Just never have been able to get Netflix working as they block screen output to another screen, but that's a different issue. It's not perfect, but it's the easiest thing I have been able to do after rooting my phone. I have way more issues with banking or McDonald's apps than with AA Stream Still worth it though. In fact so worth it I refused a free iPhone from work as I rather keep my compact for these 'features'

So I just got a car radio that supports mirroring over both USB debugging and MirrorLink and it works perfectly without root! Including touch input via the car's screen. The radio says MirrorLink ("P-Link"), but I assume it's doing it through USB debugging. Which makes sense, since that's the same way most Android remoting programs work on PC. I haven't tested the audio but I assume that works, too. It has a huge 7 inch screen and was pretty cheap, so it'll be perfect for navigation.

I am also considering LineageOS 16.0 RC6, because if I understand properly, that if you dont backup DRM keys you will loose official Camera and other functionalities after root.

But this will probably not work on stock car display unit (like original 7" Toyota system) which almost all supports MirrorLink only. I will try it You have some additional app for that? Or just checked Dev. options on and all OK?

No additional app. Just USB debugging enabled.
