Knowing Sprint we won't get this update for 6 months after it is officially released internationally. Android handset manufacturers need to take a cue from Apple and tell them that they have no say in updates other than makeing sure they are compatible with the radios on a particular device for their network. If Apple can do it so can they, or does apple hold a patent on that.

My point is that the carriers hold up updates period. Doesn't matter which carrier it is. Sprint may be faster than other carriers I won't deny that, but they still delay them for what ever reason. I am not hating on sprint alone, they are all guilty of it. I realize they need to test the software on their particular network but that doesn't always justify the length of delay. But thanks for playing.

Just a heads up I downloaded the android revolution 4.2.2 that was released in the International ONE forum and it has a sprint folder in it with sprint libs, etc so you guys may want to check it out. It also has t-mobile and at&t folder too so i guess he's for one fully compatible zip. Dev is a beast. Also the zip is about 1 GB...all the separate carrier stuff bumped it up a bit.
Try at your own risk.....
EDIT...I checked out his install script and he got the right partition numbers for flashing on the sprint one.

I wouldn't say the carriers "hold" the updates. Lots of testing is needed to insure a good product on their network.

Keep in mind several factors:
A. HTC might not even push their updates to American carriers until they're done with international versions, due to customizations carriers require here.
B. Different modems and signal bands require additional development and testing time.
C. The testing of a device is actually quite lengthy, because the last thing a carrier (and HTC) wants is some incompatibility causing interference with towers or something. This is why the FCC checks these devices btw.

My friend on T-Mobile is getting the update OTA right now as I type this... c'mon Sprint!

Luckily about half of my area has LTE, but the problem is just that CDMA phones get the stinky finger because only 2 carriers in the world use them, Verizon and Sprint.

US Cellular is CDMA. And if you're lucky enough to have them around the network is second to none. But I do see your point. My problem is that my area (Wisconsin) is dominated by CDMA. The networks for T-Mo and ATT are not good around here.

[Q] Why is Sprint so hard to make ROM's for?

I know it's CDMA and everything, but does that make a difference? And If it makes a huge difference and I'm just being stupid, please explain why? I want to flash ARHD to my One, but I can't since it doesn't work on Sprint!
It's not hard to make a rom for it but because of the hardware differences, it's impossible to make a cross flashable Rom for cdma and gsm.

The One is the across all carriers, EXCEPT SPRINT. CDMA and GSM are completely different pieces of hardware, so one ROM cannot address both chips.

I was actually happy to leave CDMA carrier like Sprint and start using GSM phone which are more widely used and have far more development due to the fact they have the same hardware as their international counterparts

On of top that Sprint has such inconsistent and spotty service in many parts of the country. Some parts of the country Sprint compatible networks are all but absent.
There's a reason why Sprint subscribers can get such great price and package deals for their phones & data plans... Becausr they cannot hold onto customers who get lured in by the great deals, then as soon as they leave their comfortable metropolitan areas, they have zero signal in some random small town, where the average AT&T and Verizon customers have at least some phone service.

Using Aroma it is quite easy to do this. There were many ROMs in the EVO 3D forums that had one flash-able zip for GSM and CDMA phones. You just selected in Aroma. I believe Trick Droid for the One in the International forum is also like this.
And it is not harder to make ROMs for the Sprint version. It is just a matter of DEVs. There are more developers for the GSM version and some are more actively developing and therefore there are more ROMs available. Also they have a 4.2.2 kernel as is for their phone and there has not been one released for the Sprint version. Once there is a 4.2.2 Kernel available for the Sprint variant you'll see lots of movement.

I think once we get a SPrint 4.2.2 kernel/firmware there will be more crossover, mostly the difference in the the variants is at the kernel level.

I agree; I think people are waiting too. It's hard to invest a lot of time into developing a ROM when we'll get a 4.2 release "soon". Sometimes one can just diff to see what's different and incorporate the new features into an already made custom ROM (or vice versa), but it's easier and more stable to start over.

Short answer is no.
I believe the Sprint phones are Hardware rev 0004 which means they would need a kernel for our specific hardware. It's mostly a kernel thing.

4.3

Is anyone else kind of annoyed about these other phones that are skipping 4.2.2 and going straight to 4.3? I know there won't be any major differences but I feel like we bought the latest and greatest but are getting shafted. Maybe I'm being anal, I just find it hard to believe they will update us to 4.2.2 and then 6 months later send another out for 4.3. Maybe I'm wrong. Thoughts anyone?

Someone should leak 4.2.2.

So it is pretty clear to me that Sprint was sent 4.2.2 to start to test before the plug was pulled and they were told to wait for 4.3. You know it, I know it, Sprint knows it.
So while we wait for 4.3 I think that someone who knows someone's neighbor's sister's ex-boyfriend that babysits for a Sprint tester should do their best to get a hold of the unfinished 4.2.2 and release it to the masses.
Thank you and good day.

So basically, to satisfy your flashing fancy, you want someone to intentionally breach an organization's opsec and potentially put someone's job in danger? Nice.
You guys are really jaded and unnecessarily serious around here. Coming from an S2 and S3 I have seen tons of leaks on Sprint. Granted this is HTC and not Samsung, but still. There is plenty of reason to think that there is a 4.2.2 build specifically for Sprint somewhere out there.

Probably a minor update. Haven't heard anything on Elevate unless Sprint is keeping htc out of the loop

Last rumor that circulated said the update for 4.4.2 was going to be around 01/24/14 +/- so if I was a betting man I'd say it is a minor update to fix the issues with the 12/18 update. That and the HTC site that they say provides "real time updates" on OTA development says sprint is still in the integration phase of the 4.4.2 update (certification through carriers and google would need to go pretty fast to make it out by wednesday). I wouldn't put too much trust in HTC elevate though, the entire site seems to be a "pat HTC on the back" community.

Haha they get pissed when you say stuff like that over there. Some of those guys are defending HTC's choice to go with the s800 when last year's Note 3 had it. I can see if now in Samsung commercials "if you want last years specs get htc if you want current specs get sg5"

Yeah i pretty much avoid the site now. Either way the next generation of phones will have entirely too much power and will still manage to run slow....
I have emailed them for a response on what we can expect. If I'm not mistaken I do believe it is a small OTA.

It's interesting to see they keep doing this type of small updates instead of go for the big deal. Unless they are addressing some serious problems(like security issues,) they should test the heck out of their one release and make it solid, instead of pushing one and the other just trying to fix the bugs in the fix they just released. it's a PR nightmare to me for these kind of activities.

I joined elevate by follow a link from here, and found it little use. I can't find any valuable information, but just a bunch of people discussing pointlessly. Anyways, HTC is a phone manufacturer, not like LG or SS with all the material, parts, a lot others. So I doubt they can come up with anything revolutionary. They have better software functions, that's true.
And now this,lol.....http://www.pocketables.com/2014/01/ota-update-sprint-htc-one-pushed-back-fix-bugs.html
Noticed that someone at Sprint might be prepping for this. The date changed from Dec to 9 Jan 2014:

It could well be that in their testing these small Sprint features are breaking the OTA and that these features need to be updated just to enable the OTA.

change date 14 Jan 2014
3.05.651.6

I've had the problem with my phone not being able to update the PRL and profile since 3.05.651.5. It says it's being pushed right now, but I don't have it yet. I really need this because I was about to throw my phone at a wall yesterday because I couldn't get 3G to work at all, and I was in a spot right between 3G and LTE.

Just hang in there. Original reports about the update were for tomorrow. It is possible Sprint Jumped the gun on this one and released notes early.
Here it says the update should roll out today http://m.androidcentral.com/sprint-s-htc-one-gets-some-bugfixes
