There are a bunch of custom Sense-based ROMs out there but I'm not sure what the differences are between them. Could someone explain the differences between them?

They are all optimised to be faster than stock, with things like zipaligning and SQL tweaks.
TrickDroid has a lot of customizations tweaks for it, but is running an older version of 4.2.2, while ARHD has less tweaks but is smoother and running the very latest 4.2.2 (2.17.401.1)
Renovate gets OTA updates afaik, which could be a positive for you. That is heavily themed

everything is a question of personal taste
to correct you, renovate has an optional complete theme but you can choose a complete stock look while flashing .

Just saw another thread and I was curious as to why people are drooling about gingerbread rom. What is this rom? What is so special about it compared to Cog or Perc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Right now we are using 2.1 and 2.2 ROMs. The ROMs u mentioned above are modifications of 2.2 ROM (custom ROMs made out of 2.2 android version).
Gingerbread is the next version of android (2.3). Very soon u will see all (atleast most) of the custom ROMs here getting ported to 2.3 android base.

Am I correct that there is no guarantee this new android will be faster? Or will it have a new interface?
Here's why: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Android-2.3-Gingerbread-new-features_id15199
Specifically for me, the improved task manager with better save state.

Interface, as in home screens and related, can always be changed with themes and home apps.
The base versions are incremented/updated when there are some changes done to the underlying mechanisms. It would be best to check online for the android 2.3 change log that would tell you all the additions/updates/modifications done to 2.3.
Check out this link for technical changelog:

Because people always want whats faster and newer.....or what they can't have haha.
The Team Union ROM's odexed version is very smooth. eybee had also linked in that ROM's thread an article where it explained why odexed ROMs are smoother that deodexed ROMs. Could more devs please consider odexed versions of their ROMs? Thanks.
4.1.2 JB LSZ Union ROM v5, KSO Modem, speedmod K-5 kernel, Carrier: AT&T (US)
There is no need for it because odexed Roms aren't faster than deodexed Roms when using them. The difference is only relevant when booting.
The only reason for deodexed Rom is the possibility to make changes more easy. By the way zipaligning all apk in Custom Roms is an additional optimization in deodexed Roms.
I quote only a part of one of many, many articles explaining the mechanism and the reason for the "first boot acceleration".
With deodexed ROMs, only the first ever boot after clearing Dalvik cache is slower, and all subsequent ones will be the same as any odexed ROM. This is owing to the fact that during the first boot, all cache information is written to the virtual machine anyway, and hence, it will behave as any other firmware (until you clear the Dalvik cache once again).

arent odexed roms losing their true identity with the inclusion of more and more features/ mods that were intially designed for the deodexed rom ?

it's relevant when booting, but you can also experience difference when using same ROM in odexed and deodexed - call it placebo or whatever you want, for me it is noticable

Noticeable isn't a recognized method of measuring. It's human. So, yes it's a placebo until someone explains the mechanism why odexed apks and Roms should be faster.
And again: you'll find many posts, blogs etc. from different people explaining this and stating the above as result. Relevant when booting, after this no performance impact.

I don't think it's just a placebo effect; it's certainly apparent in the experience when using an odexed ROM, even after the first boot, of course assuming that all odexed ROMs will be faster due to the technical reasons outlined in the article to which you linked.
If it's not too much of an effort, it would be great if all devs offered an odexed version of their ROMs.

I know and I read them all (ok, most of them)...anyway, everyone can decide what he wants to run or not, regardless of any scientific explanation why or if there is any measurable impact on perfomance or not

Of course, this is the freedom here each member has.
Dreams have a longer life then facts.
I seem to think that odexed roms are faster call it placebo or whatever you like. I was using eybees lsc rom which was deodexed and now i am on the latest indian firmware which is odexed and it feels snapier. No disrespect to eybee intended i think your mods and roms are great. Maybe its because this is a newer firmware maybe they changed a few things.

They are all solid, it depends on what features, themes, etc you are looking for.
Rooted within 3 hours. Started on a different Rom but switched to vipers and never looked back. Incredibly close to stock with just some basic visual upgrades and a lot under the hood

I enjoy d3rpONE. Its a sense based rom with good a good looking theme, full functionality and lots of under the hood tweaks and fixes.
D3rped out Beastmode! HTC ONE!
d3rpROM, ViperROM, and TrickDroid are the best ones out there atm. I am currently running TrickDroid because it has tons of mods selectable in AROMA, it is quite nice. (you can find it in the international forum, it will give you the option to flash the Sprint version from the .zip)
Im running Viper's... Super Nice!
from htc ONE
what about cm10.1

They are if you like Sense roms and I believe that is what the OP was asking about.
I don't know why that dude took 3 hours to root his mine took a total of 5 minutes and then another 5 to install Viper ROM and haven't had an issue.

I rooted, flashed Viper Rom and Wolfpack Kernel as soon as I got home from the Sprint Store. All done before I even made a call and I couldn't be happier with how my phone is running as well as the attention given to requests for Mods or assistance by Team Venom as well as Thicklizard...Keep up the great work guys...

Have you tried RENOVATE? Using RENOVATE ROM, Wolfpack Kernel and OJM MODs.....ultimate device. Viper ROM is very nice....but Quadrants and Antutu scores suffer greatly. Renovate also includes PureXAUDIO , battery optimization, and it flys. It's mostly stock unless you choose their theme
I think he meant he rooted in 3 hours and not it took all of 3 hours.
It took me about 2 hours to root. It would have been faster but I used the HTC One (M7) All-In-One Toolkit V1.2, and while it got me started, it didn't work as advertised, left off steps, and then just stopped working. I had to do most of the work manually myself, but I did it.
theres an easy video to follow on youtube if you search "htc one root" look for the one posted by qbking77. it doesnt use the all in one toolkit so if something goes wrong its easier to figure out what you did wrong...
Hello, got my new HTC One, but just cant decide on what CM10.1 4.2.2. rom should i go with, Paranoid, PackMan, and so on, what do you guys use? I just need stability speed, and of course some futures
Why not go with the 10.3 (4.3) build of the nightlies? Google Edition ROMs are great too, and most of them have the Xposed Framework cooked in, so mods are a breeze to install.
SinLess is my GE ROM of choice
As far as futures go... there is only one future, and it is a future ruled by Skynet :good:

I'm just waiting for AudioX mod to be available on 4.3 then i will use it I've used the 4.3 GE it is fast but sometimes is just gets stuck on that fast, i remember having GS3 on CM10.1 and it was faster. Right now i have Cm10.1 for testing, it does have more lag but it's just more stable then GE 4.3 don't know how to explain, menu transitions are better, but thats why i'm thinking it's cm10.1 just more tweaks to make it better. but on cm10.2 audiox mod is not available.
Just installed Slimless much better thank you don't know what happened with Revolution 4.3 GE

Hey guys I am looking for a rom that has some added features and added optimization similar to cataclysm but on the latest security base 30. i dont like aosp due to bugs and some stability issues. but i am kinda looking for something with a little better performance than just base stock since i know there can be lots of little tweaks made to optimize the stock builds. again i dont want a hybrid aosp or cm based build a pure stock optimized rom would be what im looking for similar to cataclysm. let me know what your using and how you like it.

"Which ROM is best" threads don't pan out too well on this site, mainly because the bulk of the people reading the thread will hawk the ROM they are using, without regard to what you may actually be looking for. The only way you're going to know which ROM works best for you is by installing them yourself and trying them out.
I'm a long time user of XDA and I guess my post could be interpreted as a looking for "best" I'm more just finding difficulty with hownto tell if a rom is cm aosp or stock Google fiware modified. I'm new to the Nexus scene, I've been on HTC devices for ages . and the real issue is like ive stated I've found after trying almost every ROM in the dev thread I have a few faves like PA or RR but they are slightly under developed since based on aosp or cm. I'm looking for a stock Google firmware that has been optimized . BTW my current go to is graveyard bybthe skydragon team which is amazing but I really miss that cataclysm build with all the options it had.
