[Q] Tweaks? - Samsung Galaxy Exhibit 4G

What are the best tweaks for this phone? I know its a noob question to ask but I want to know.

All personal preference. A lot of tweaks are placebo effects. I don't use any seems like a waste of time to me

Unfortunately there is a lot of truth to this statement as I found out the hard way. I will say Fly Mod works only for the fact the ram manager script will manage minfrees effectively. Far as the other tweaks it contains I'd be lying if I said I know for sure they make a difference. Crossbreeder also works to block ads and manage entropy but can't be used with Fly Mod. Use one or the other. I picked Fly Mod because of ram manager and it works much better than Auto Killer. To block ads I use @BSDgeek_Jake Ad Block host file: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1916098 and Seeder for entropy.
If you want 2D graphics improvement go into developer options in settings, and select force "GPU to handle 2D drawing". In performance settings set I/O to "Row" and check both boxes for memory management. Do not enable Zram.
That's all, nothing more. BTW Script Manager or the Universal Init.d support app must be used to run the scripts or they won't work.

Now that's odd. I just installed seeder to check entropy as I always use crossbreeder. And my entropy is still at over 4000 and my add block still works fine. I am also running fly mod.

See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42064289&postcount=212, the Fly Mod dev said some tweaks will conflict with each other, that's why I stopped using both. I looked at the scripts and they do contain some things that are the same such as read ahead settings & so forth.

I guess I missed that. Thanks for the heads up.

Yeah you know I guess you could always try to just use the ram manager script without Fly Mod and see if it will still work or ask @slaid480. He's very good about responding to questions. Another thing about the ram manager script is that it is made especially for devices with 512 of ram like ours, which explains why it works so well on the Exhibit I suppose. I've tried all those other ram scripts/apps and none of them panned out in the end.
Right now with the combo I mentioned above I have optimum performance and I've had this setup now for a couple of weeks with zero problems. BTW when I had Crossbreeder and Fly Mod both going I didn't seem to have any issues but when in doubt I follow the dev's recommendations.

How do you run the scripts in fly?

Flash ram manager first (multitasking), then flash Fly Mod. Just read the OP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2273317
After going into Script Manager, then system/etc/init.d and for each file set for "su" and then "boot". Don't bother with the log delete, zipalign data or sqlite optimize scripts as they appear not to work.

To me it doesnt seem like you need any scripts with AOIP because it runs smoothly without it. Let me say SmartGuy, Tim, Camcory, etc. They did an amazing job on that ROM.

Yes i did i tried out their ROM but since battery life was bad ( I wasn't expecting good battery life all 4.2.2 Roms have bad battery life) I had to nandroid back to cm10 because i often play basketball tournaments far away and don't have a charger with me.

In that case your DPI settings are at issue sounds like. It must be set to 240 for apps to download, a few others work but this is the most common one. If you're using Slim or Pac Man change that setting.

v3.2 is in progress. Will find more things first, but so far 1 important thing is done. Inkeffect showing 'None' in settings, now shows choosen color. Updates will be in CWM for simplicity, and way smaller than a complete rom.
haven't got any feedback, so hard to say what to do, I think it runs like a train with no hassle, execpt for the one mention above, but that is sorted. Plain theming isn't something to update for. However NightTheme is uploaded (post #1)
Update for 'none' in inkeffects > settings added to post #3.
Thanks. Will do some test today as its weekend

Wonderful! I can't really find anything bad, however I haven't tried everything If you apply the update you get correct ink choosen in settings (no diffrence otherwise), so it's not superimportant for trying purpose. But if you use it as daily rom for some time it can be nice to get that sorted.
I tip my hat for your efforts on this rom.
Wasn't bad at all.
The main problem are the ones you already noted.
The ink effect update kinda mess up the lockscreen of my wallpaper and it didn't solve the problem. If you can fix it in the version 3.2, this will be my daily rom.

---Con abt theme---
I didn't Setting UI. I understand it was "nightStorm" :what:

Thank you for pointing that out! I found the problem and sorted that (wrong ID link in smalis) (SecSettings.apk).
An other problem came across, darkred renders incorrect (yellow!)
That problem is in android.policy.jar in the darkred case. Problem is solved and yet another update is added/replaced (same link in other words). So there
is a new android.policy.jar in the update aswell.
Please check the changes and repport, if you have time and so

How to make your nexus 7 feel zippier

3) (optional) install Nova launcher and import the data from your previous launcher
4) Enter Nova Settings and set scroll speed and animation speed to "Nova"
5) Enjoy!
Note that this doesn't make your tablet faster but makes it feel faster (I prefer the word zippy)
Bonus: search Google Play for "seeder" - it is probably very good but I can't tell whether it is seeder that has made a difference, personally because I made a lot other changes to my tablet and I have a new router.

I ran it to, and it says the entropy pool is up, but you can accomplish the same thing with a sysctl tweak. No apps, nothing to flash. Rather have a sysctl placebo effect than installing something unknown for a placebo effect, imo.

[Q] How to get less RAM consuption?

Hello,
I'm experiencing high ram consumption and I got no idea on how to fix it.
I can't get it lower than 450mb, which is really a problem with multitasking. As short as I start using more than 2 applications on a time my phone becomes non usable and sometimes I even have to pull out the battery to fix it.
At this moment I'm running stock JB with SIRI kernel.
I already freezed some standard applications and went using touchwiz again instead of GoLauncher. This made it a little bit better but didn't solve it.
I hope anyone has an idea!

I'm using same as you, sandrin0, JB LQ4 + SIRI, and my RAM is on max 330/629 after i clear the RAM.
Did u use Facebook app? That is an application that consumes a lot of RAM, being active backround.
Maybe my topic help you to debloat your FW - What applications can be safely removed with Titanium Backup
After clearing RAM I'm on like 375. but when I'm using my phone I'm not clearing it every 5 minutes. The problem is for example: When I'm on the xda developers app, I receive a WhatsApp message, so I switch to that. Then I receive a new tweet and I switch to Twitter, my phone just starts lagging like ****.
I think this shouldn't be possible with like 650MB RAM on a phone, but that may be my opinion.
I already debloated my firmware, it just doesn't really make sence. I think I just have too high expectations from a phone like this lol. Happy to switch to a Xperia Z of HTC One in May
if you think about it, on gb i had ~300/555 MB RAM in use, so 255 free ram, now on JB i have ~400/629 ram in use wich, surprise surprise leave 229 free ram
I got great results with RTMixManager.
I am using stock kernel with deodexed lq4, still so much ram usage!

Boost game performance -- e.g. Subway surfers, jetpack joy ride etc.

Hey guys sharing my trick for no lag in almost all games.......hope it works
Its working i can play jet pack joy ride, subway surfers, temple run etc games with almost no lags(very rare lags)..
So lets start,
1.download android perfomance booster app from market.
2.Then download seeder 2.0 app from xda or try googling it (or wait i will upload that)
3.Use chainfire 3d with qualcom plugin and reduce texture quality..(optional step)
4.open seeder and select the options like in screen shot and the restart your phone and then start seeder again but dont change anything then close that..
5.Then open android performance booster and click boost performance then close this app.
6. Start your game and enjoy!!!
Note 1 :- if the above steps dont work then try this
Download ram expander from playstore and open it and use the settings shown in screen shot screenshot.....
But remember with ram expander you do have to follow the steps written above also...
Note 2 :- i dont use chainfire its an optional step you can use it also for more better performance.
Note 3 :- sorry for my bad english

hello guys, maybe this not important coz i think all of u more expert about android than me... just sharing.. i try lot of script/tweak that i found in xda but i better use V6Supercharger+DomScript+Seeder script (not seeder apk) & cronmod script to increase internal memory whatever rom i use... :good:V6Supercharger its better ram management for me but only booting take time(not big problem i think).. i can play nova, hot pursuit, subways surfer, hawk & 50+ user apk install... maybe you guys found better script/tweak than me.. #peace y'all...
# i agree with GermainZ about do not use task killer or something like that... im read & this what im understand about memory management..

I'm not so sure about the other build as I didnt take the plunge but this one is working great so far. No issues as of yet and I think the only major things I haven't messed with are Bluetooth and lte.

I was looking for a reason to go back to Sense, but I couldn't find one. GPS locks almost instantly. MMS works great. Phone works in speaker and normal mode. Had the slight crackle in speakers when playing music but a little DSP magic and I can't tell the difference between my setting and Beats.
The only thing that would draw me back is blink feed but tbh I don't use it as much unless I'm bored. I can always use flip board for news feeds unless someone has a better suggestion.

ZOE is exclusive to Sense. Haven't taken any actual pics being that there is a thunderstorm out so I can't really test it. From what I can tell, there are plenty of options including a burst mode. Rear and front camera works. The image looks wide and full so it is utilizing the pixels as they were intended.

Do you mean the Mount point of sdcard/data? Then yes it has multiuser support unlike 4.1 it ships with thus the change.

So asfar as installation goes, I have TWRP. I know to wipe cache, dalvik, factory reset but a little confused on Formatting data. If I do that, won't it delete everything including internal storage? I see under Advanced Wipe, there is an option to wipe system. Is this the same as Formatting data? Sorry for the newbness, this is my first phone without a sd card slot. I'm used to "formatting data" while having the external storage to keep the Rom on.

Do Wipe-Advanced wipe-select first 4 (all except usb-otg). That is it. :good:
If you do the wipe data, it wipes internal storage.
Does anyone feel that tge 361 dpi setting makes things to small? What would be the next best setting? Thanks.... This is running buttery smooth btw. Feels so good to be outta sense.

not having Zoé is actually a deal breaker for me. I used to run slim on e4gt, but now really enjoy taking zoes of kids...

Awesome Thanks! I thought this was part of the Slim style or something, the status bar being small was okay, but the icon size was really bugging me.
