Depending on what system you are on, I'd assume the latest (OTA 906). Use Motofail to root it, which can be found Here. That should be a single exe file to run motofail, make sure you have the proper motorola drivers, USB debugging on, and charge only USB mode.

need help with z4root

Hi guys I just got a droid 1 yesturday right away I wanted to root it. I am coming from having a rooted incredile I know that doesn't matter in this section lol just saying I'm not really new to rooting. I choosed to use z4root to root my D1 but lastnight and this morning I couldn't get it to go any further than trying to get root accses. Debugging is checked and also is unknown sources is checked. What am I doing wrong?
If you updated to 2.2.1 z4 will not work.
Ahh that explains why it doesn't work the phone had 2.2.1 when I got it. Well that's the end of that lol. Is there another one click root?
Not as a phone app. You can use superoneclick to root if you have a windows machine or use the sbf_flash method on linux.
I have windows 7.
I *think* superoneclick should work for you. You can always google it for additional information.
Ok sounds good ill update if I I manage to root it or if I run into any promblems. But I think I should be able to, rooting the incredible I had to download a drive but that's because I wasn't using a mac but I also had to unzip the file browse for it and load it, unrevoke was what I used. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
ok thanks for your help i am now rooted but i am wondering how do you flash roms with the droid? with the incredible you had recovery, i could go into recovery by pressing volume down plus the power button. is there something close to that with the droid? thanks again.
I would recommend going with clockworkmod. There should be plenty of posts around here, and you can always Google.

Help, please!!

My friend asked me to root his samsung captivate for him. He doesn't have a sim card in it and it is running 2.2 froyo. I have tons on experience rooting and ROMing my Droid x2 from Verizon and my Acer tablet but I don't know where to begin on this phone. I read the stickys and I've been researching for the past week and all I have is the right drivers, lol. My friend needs it tommorow, and he already gave me some money to do it for him. If any one, any one at all could help me on how to root it (prefferebly not through adb) or if you can do it without hooking it up to the computer, I would be eternally greatful! I can definately use a computer if neccesary I just prefer not to do so. All I need to do is get the phone rooted and get a recovery on there. Somebody please help! Thanks guys!!!

if you have a captivate 2.2 then you will need a computer it is compulsory
download superoneclick and connect the phone after enabling debugging
if soc detect the phone click on root wait for soc to complete and you will get your mobile rooted
hey, I just rooted and custom rom'ed today from stock 2.2; and, let me tell you, the rooting was the simple part! Just download superoneclick and click the root button! After that you can install cwm5 via Rom manager from the market. If you get stuck with the Samsung recovery because it is version 3e, then post here and I'll tell you what I did to get past it....

[Q] Is there a way to root my bionic if it is running ics?

Hey everyone, I recently updated my Bionic to ics (the non rooted version) and i wanted to root it. Is there a way to do so or do i have to downgrade???
http://t.co/mbIAmwH8
i just made the jump over to ICS using the SamuriHL_HouseOfBionic(something like that) method and everything went great and i made it to the newest ICS .232 leak but now when i try to root using the razr edge for windows program, it wont finish to rooting.. it gets to "daemon not running - starting it now" and just gets stuck there. i have done everything needed for it to work but for some reason its not getting past the daemon starting part. do i just need to wait longer? ive let it sit there for like almost an hour and still nothing.
has anyone else had this problem or know of any way to solve it? i would very much appreciate it!
People say you can but i had to flash back and root before installing ics. I lost root when installing .2233, but was then able to regain it with razors edge.
Though this last time i used voodoo root keeper from the market and it worked great.

Did you enable USB Debugging and set your phone to MPT instead of USB Mass Storage? Have you tried "adb devices" to ensure that your computer is able to see your phone? USB Debugging is not enabled once you jump to ICS. You need to go into your system settings and enable it. I used SamuraiHL's script as well and had to enable USB debugging to get razr's edge to root my phone without fail.
same problem here
i too am unable to use ics razors edge/moto exploit either. i also get stuck at daemon started. i know how to follow instructions ie. usb debugging, updated drivers, different usb ports. when phone is in mass storage mode i get to daemon started, when i use mtp stuck at waiting for device. this is very frustrating as it should be very simple. ANY OTHER HELP?

Have you tried using a different USB cable? If not, go ahead and give it a try, it seems to be a fairly common issue, some cables just don't work well. Also, make sure to use a usb port that is directly connected to the motherboard, don't go through a hub.

Are you using the stock motorola factory cable that came with the Bionic? And what happens when you do "adb devices"? Also what windows are you guys running? I used to have problems with Windows 7. I have WIndows XP on my work computer which I do most of my downgrade/upgrade/rooting. I know people usually have issues with Windows Vista/7.
The downloaded file is zipped. You have to extract to another folder; open the new folder and run the bat file.

I enabled USB debugging and everything but it still failed and was stuck at the "starting daemon" or whatever. The correct drivers and everything were installed and the computer recognized my phone just fine. I think I'll have to go back to. 905, root, and download the voodoo ota root keeper and go to. 232 then root again. But do I install root keeper after I'm rooted on. 905 then install. 232 and have to root again or is it already rooted after upgrading? Or do I have to install root keeper before I root on. 232? lol sorry I'm just trying to get it straightened out do I do it right the next time :screwy:
--------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: i was doing this whole process on a older, ****ty computer and now I'm trying it on my laptop which is much newer and more reliable and i'm seeing better results... i havent gotten to the ics rooting yet but i got past the same problem just from rooting on 902 using my laptop so im hoping it will do the same when it comes time for the razrs edge root. i will let you guys know in a bit, wish me luck...
So I did eventually figure it out and it was a lot simpler thani thought.. lol I just needed to use a different(better/newer) computer to root my phone on. Thanks for the help and I hope maybe this will help someone with the same problem in the future :what:

Thanks for trying, there was an app for gingerbread called gingerbreak, dunno about ics though, on other phones its been done by flashing a pre rooted stock rom or by running a terminal script, im sure there is a way to bring the exploit to our phones but unfortunately i dont have the skill, if only i could afford tethering i would blow the dust off the laptop and root it straight away!
Solved, I downloaded the pc files and pushed them to the old laptop through usb, followed normal instructions and viola! Root! Now i just need the roms to develop a bit more

sure it's not 5.7.906?
several reason for motofail, not to work
try
disabling virus protection, before downloading motofail, and keep disabled till rooting is done.
download http://vulnfactory.org/public/motofail_windows.zip
watch this video How to root the Droid 3 with motofail
make sure you right-click on the motofail_windows.zip file, extract the files to a folder on your PC, and click the ‘run.bat’ file from that folder
Figured it out
