sure it's not 5.7.906?
several reason for motofail, not to work
try
disabling virus protection, before downloading motofail, and keep disabled till rooting is done.
download http://vulnfactory.org/public/motofail_windows.zip
watch this video How to root the Droid 3 with motofail
make sure you right-click on the motofail_windows.zip file, extract the files to a folder on your PC, and click the ‘run.bat’ file from that folder
Figured it out

Hi guys I just got a droid 1 yesturday right away I wanted to root it. I am coming from having a rooted incredile I know that doesn't matter in this section lol just saying I'm not really new to rooting. I choosed to use z4root to root my D1 but lastnight and this morning I couldn't get it to go any further than trying to get root accses. Debugging is checked and also is unknown sources is checked. What am I doing wrong?
If you updated to 2.2.1 z4 will not work.
Ahh that explains why it doesn't work the phone had 2.2.1 when I got it. Well that's the end of that lol. Is there another one click root?
Not as a phone app. You can use superoneclick to root if you have a windows machine or use the sbf_flash method on linux.
I have windows 7.
I *think* superoneclick should work for you. You can always google it for additional information.
Ok sounds good ill update if I I manage to root it or if I run into any promblems. But I think I should be able to, rooting the incredible I had to download a drive but that's because I wasn't using a mac but I also had to unzip the file browse for it and load it, unrevoke was what I used. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
ok thanks for your help i am now rooted but i am wondering how do you flash roms with the droid? with the incredible you had recovery, i could go into recovery by pressing volume down plus the power button. is there something close to that with the droid? thanks again.
I would recommend going with clockworkmod. There should be plenty of posts around here, and you can always Google.
Hello I have a droid x2 and I am running CM7 however my wife has finally given in and wants her Bionic rooted so I can remove all the bloat. I am curious I am seeing that the only way is the manual root? I have never used ADB before and I was hoping there is another way. I downloaded the for3ver zip but did not see the run.bat file I was looking for. Any help would be appreciated!! Also I installed the bootstrap in the sticky I am sure as usual make a nano back up as soon as I getg rooted.
Edit.. got it rooted
Can you post what you did in order to get rooted? Im new to this phone and im having some trouble
My wife's phone was on. 893 I used this and it was very easy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1279825
Just download both files extract them do the exploit zip first then the 4 everroot and pick your option to root. I looked at theblink again and do not see the first exploit I flashed. I will have to check my wife's phone and see what I put on her SD card

Actually that is the thread I used it has the exploit first. Very easy. Once rooted I suggest making a nano back up of your stock rooted rom. That way if you do something wrong you can easily get back.
i did not see any instructions about this so i figured i would ask instead of turning my phone into a paperweight and yes i looked at the noob section and it states everything from 896 and 893 so i didn't find a solution to my question

You need to use the pathsaver. This will put you back on 886, then root and install 43v3r root, then update to 893, and then potentially 901 from there. Read up on how to use the pathsaver.
Instructions and more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433783
Can you explain to me how this pathsaver does how it works a bit lost at this point
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using XDA App
Pathsaver was for folks that updated to leaked builds that were never officially supported and put us off the OTA (over the air) update path.
Its basically a batch to push the old builds to your phone allowing you to root/permaroot and give you the files needed to run the 893 and 901 updates from stock recovery on your phone once you're back at 886, effectively putting you back on the "OTA update path", thus aptly named "pathsaver".
hth
ok that makes a bit more sense so its like updating a "official" signed ota backwards more or less that makes sense i am really new to locked bootloaders everything seems so damn complicated cause when i had my charge and my epic all i had to do is plug in usb get a .pit file flash odin and bam i was rooted with cwm recovery installed it was magic... so this is super complicated and really can't afford to brick my phone..
Hopefully someone knows this answer...
i've tried both BPS, forever root and 1-click. i've found no answer to this and if it's out there could someone please point me in the right direction?? I apologize beforehand therefore if said answer is out there. I used BPS went right to .893, right to .901. lost root. I tried the other ways (to save time I did if you need specifics i'll give them) to no avail. This is the message I get:
unable to chmod read-only file system. Screen shot attached. thanks

I think you need to use the pathsaver, and then once you get to 893 apply root, and 43v3r root, then go to 901.
Hello. First off, I want to thank everyone for their hard work here. I have followed many tutorials and have seen many great conversations to keep noobs like me from making mistakes when trying to delve into the world of ROMs and rooting. However, I did encounter some troubles while installing the ICS rom onto my bionic (running on .902). I think I may have accidentally overwritten the stock rom backup that I made with safe strap or whatever that app is (I'm sorry, like I said, I am a complete noob). Is there a way to restore the phone to stock, as in before I even touched it, even if the backup I made during the process is gone by my mistake?
I'm sure this has been asked a million times, and if so, I apologize, but as I noob, I have no idea how to even begin to search for clues. Walkthroughs would be nice, but links are fine too, since I'm sure there are plenty of the same questions out there.
Thanks!!!

Thanks! Can that be used after the .902 update? Is it possible to do a dual-boot type deal between stock and the ICS version I have installed? I've seen mentions of dual-boot around here, but I can't get a clear grasp on whether it is possible or not, or if so, how to do it. Thank you very much!

Yeah I'm sure you can.
Get on stock .902(here).
Install SafeStrap.
Backup Stock Rom by Toggling "SafeMode"
Boot up ICS.
When you want to go to Stock .902 undo "SafeMode" and the Stock Rom should boot up on Reboot
Thanks for the answer! Hopefully I can give this a shot soon!

Also, when I open RSD Lite and try to load the file, it doesn't do anything after clicking "Start". Please help me try to diagnose what I may be doing wrong if you can! Thank you!

Enable Usb Debugging and Unknown Sources. Download Motohelper drivers
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
I'm sorry I probably should be a little more specific. I have both of those enabled and I do have the Motohelper drivers installed. I am following the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22758211#post22758211
On step 8, I do not see a file named FXZ or a file with that extension, but I figured it was the file with the name that the zip file had. I chose that file after clicking "..." and hit Start, but it doesn't do anything.
I am running the ICS version cyanogen mod 9.0.0-rc0-droid_bionic-kang build number alpha_2012_02_10
I already have SafeStrap installed (used that to get this rom on). So, looks like I'm stuck on or around step 8 from the other steps posted. Once I can get past that, I can continue with the steps posted in this thread!
Thanks!!!

SafeStrap disables ADB(that Im sure of) which will not let RSD run(im pretty sure) you have to select the xml file
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk
Yes, the XML file is the one I select. However, it will not do anything in RSD. Is there anything I can do to enable ADB in order to let RSD run?
Update: I found a way to do it. I think things are going okay so far. Looks like it is installing. If it does install successfully, I would like to do everything perfectly right going forward.
So, after this is installed, I will want to:
1. Get root access again using Motofail? I assume doing this return to stock will remove root access.
2. Install SafeStrap. Once that is done, I toggle Safemode to enabled, which will backup my stock rom and protect it from being overwritten?
3. Then, flash ICS from the zip files on my sdcard?

I'm baffled as to what I did wrong during the initial root of zv7 software. I can't unroot, can't recover, can't root to zv8 or upgrade. I'm using MT's AIO root app and just can't seem to understand. I guess there's a reason I'm a noob. this is what i get:
unable to open log device "/dev/log/main" no such file or directory
And then from there it won't add new root files, remove trash etc.
Revolution zv7 zv8 help please!
I would like to just have CWM and Root access on ZV8. On rooted gingervolted zv7. Please help! I will donate money if I have to! I understand a person's time is worth something!

Root only... update... rootzv8
Sent from my VS910 4G using XDA
You can't keep gingervolt as of right now, but I'm sure a vz8 gingervolt will be coming out. I would first make sure you take an image with cmw before you do anything with your phone.
I first rooted the the device like in the first thread about maintaining root from vz7 to vz8 thread. It worked after I got LGNPST working, but I still wanted CWM. When MT came out with the script, I gave that a try but had permission issues. If you have an image you can restore to pre gingervolt, I would try that, then use MT's tool to apply stock recovery. I had to run the tool twice before it would take and I didn't get anything puking at me and I got stock recovery. Make sure you still have root. I then prepare for update, update, then apply root and cmw.
If you don't have a pre gingervolt image, Follow the instructions to put the vz7 tot back on your phone found here. Then root only. After you have root, I would then prep for vz8, update, then root and install cmw.
If everything is successful, I would take a post install image with cmw.
Thanks a bunch. I will get to this tonight and let you know the results. I have confidence it will work. Since I'm a noob, it won't let me post an image, but I'll upload it to photobucket and hyperlink. Thanks again! PM me your paypal and I will throw some scratch your way.
I'm new to this also so it is some trial and error. Just keep working at it. No need to send me any money. If you want to make a donation, send it to MT, Spc.Hicks or one of the other developers who keep this phone going.
Here's where I'm at with the process.
Still rooted on zv7. Tried to do stock recovery (unroot with zv7 stock rom) but wouldn't recognize my battery or sim card. I am only able to run rooted zv7 with GV 2.0 in order to use all functions of phone. Unable to update OTA to zv8. The stock zv7 will not work, therefore had to flash GV2.0 with root. The problems I had before was sound not working, music player plays, but no sound, and when the phone was on and the screen would turn off automatically, it wouldn't turn back on. The buttons along the bottom would light up, but no screen. It was at this point that I had to return to rooted zv7 with GV2.0.
The Update Process
Hey I had a lot of trouble coming from MT's 2.0 V7 to V8 Root with Revovery. Let me see if I can help. This method worked for me. Follow it if you like.
1. First start from scratch using LGPST and V7 .TOT. Just follow the instuctions from the [FIX] Updated by accident? thread by hilong08.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1211295
I did have trouble installing the .dll. Just run the CMD as an administrator to install it without errors.
2. Run the old All in one from MT to root your phone only.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348557
3. Once its rooted download terminal emulator from the market and do this
Type su and then enter you should see a "#". Next type echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop. It should create a file called local.prop in your /data directory.
you could manually do it with root explorer too.
4. Now wait for the Verizon OTA (over the air) update or manually search.
5. Now you should be on V8.
6. Run the AIO bat by MT to root and install CWM , option 2. I believe we manually did option 1 so theres no need to do it once on V8.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1566729
7. You should be root with CWM. I thought I didnt install this right the first time after about 3 fresh installs over a period of 2 days. CWM is installed man, even if you dont see it, i had to use quick boot from the market to boot into revovery.
Another thing if your phone loses sound check your /data/local.prop and change it to local.prop.bak and reboot. I also had a problem and it was freaking me out.
good luck
Stop V8 notifications
If you want to keep your phone from trying to update while in V7, use root explorer to rename /system/lib/ libdme_main.so to libdme_main.bak; I renamed three days ago with no update notifications to date. http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1236896.html
I'm still not getting anywhere. I'm back to root with gv2.0 with no sound. I'm just afraid to do anything else. Can someone call me or do a remote session? I'm ****ing retarded.
No no no. Go to development section and flash the v8 tot. Easiest way to get to v8

I'm actually considering going back to ginger volt 2.0. I really don't notice any differences on v8 except that I have a bunch of bloatware. I lost all the things I loved about my phone, like the number percentage on the battery status. now I have a huge E911 cross hair icon I can't seem to get rid of.

I hear you. I'm holding off until MT gets a new and stable Gingervolt released for it. My phone works just fine on V7 w/GV2.0. Why fix something that isn't broken?
Ok I finally got my phone back to stable working condition with gingervolt and root on zv7. Can someone tell me step-by-step how to stop the zv8 update? Were going to have to dig deep on this one. I'm shallow on my terminology, and have no clue if I even have root explorer, or how to use it. I really wish there were college classes on how to understand this stuff. I know it's linux based, but you really have to be passionate about this stuff to understand. If you guys wanted to know about bikes, I could tell you how to build one from scratch! To each their own i suppose. Thanks in advance for everyone's help getting me this far. I really do appreciate all your hard work.

Noobzilla,
Here is how another user took care of the update. Take some time and look through the development section here as well. I know there are some ways to move to the update and maintain the root as well.

Lot of us are waiting for MT to release GV 2.1 with V8 update. I was in your boat and planning to go back to stock just to see how V8 updates looks like. After reading the forms a lot of us decide to wait for new release. I would honestly suggest to wait for few weeks, stock V8 has so much bloat that you may not like it. I would suggest to donate to MT and other developers because they really rock. Just my 2 cents.

Noob you need to get back all the way stock on zv7 so either use the zv7.tot file or flash the zv7 backup my has posted in the development section after you have flashed the zv7 backup your going to run the zv7 all in one and select unroot this will unroot and put stock recovery on your phone after you have stock recovery and no root your going to run Mrs new all in one to get you where you need to be I haven't done this yet so you may have to run the other all in one selecting the option root only then run the new all in one easiest way for help is getting on the irc channel you might have to wait a little bit for help but someone will show up. Also give thanks to mt for creating this all in one for you guys eliminating the need for you guys having to learn how to use adb but I encourage everyone to get the sdk and learn how to use adb as your next phone may not have options such as a all in one check out this thread in the thunderbolt forum on how to root unlock and install cwm recovery on it. It will really make you appreciate all the work my has put into making these all in ones the script doesn't know what to do until my has typed all this stuff already.
Here is the thunderbolt method. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12159325 that's not exactly what's being done on the revolution but still a good read but imagine having to do all that to get root on your phone I encourage reading it as it will help you understand what's going on in a script that particular method was published by jcase who is an awesome exploit finder and this method includes getting temp root in order to flash an older hboot version allowing you to downgrade to a version that had already been unlocked and getting root there enabling you to get perma root and a unlocked bootloader and involves using a terminal and adb and will really get you comfortable with adb and appreciate all the keystrokes mt has saved you. *Also do not try that thunderbolt method on your revolution* I'm not positive what will happen but I am confident it will not be good.

I did this about a day after my last post on this thread and had no problems. Running GV and flashing Fusion as we speak on ZV7. Phone works great. Thanks for everyone's help!
