I had no idea of this when I bought it on launch day!! Just my luck, it pops up 3 days after I purchased it!! I actually thought of returning it for a while... I wanna know how the heck am I gonna get the screen replaced if I crack it?! How much will it cost?!?! This is crazy, but it's the price of a phone as beautiful as this, I guess.
I guess this can kind of be a measure of how durable it is? If it's this hard to take it apart intentionally, imagine how hard it is to do it on accident? I guess this eliminates the chances of me ever using it without a case:crying:
LOL i was looking round because id been offered one cheepish that needed repair
Not now
Just look at replacing the battery
One word...

Meh, they ducked up the teardown. I'm not saying it's easy, but I'm sure there's a technique.

Ok, I am considering ordering a new housing for my X1.
Ive searched and searched the forums for this and found (surprisingly) that no one has brought this up yet
I watched the SE document detailing the disassembly and reassembly of the X1. I decided to try it myself to see if I was capable of doing it before ordering the new housing. I got all the way to the part where you start peeling **** off and got scared and had to put everything back together (and did it successfully I might add)
So I was wondering, in the tech spec it says to discard these things. Obviously this is not an option since I dont have another one to reattach later.
How hard is it to carefully peel off these things and reattach them later the way they were?
Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement of these things?
Has anyone done this successfully that can give any insight or tips as to how to go about this?
I have found some conductive fabric for sale but the one used in the tech video seems to be specially tailored for the X1.
Please help, any help or comments would be appreciated!

you just put them back on.. it's not that tricky.
I've never had a problem with any phone I've ever worked on.. just take 30 seconds to make sure its all lined up correctly.

Ok thanks for the input. Now I feel a little better about it. So you HAVE done this for the X1?? or just other phones?
Screwing and unscrewing I am perfectly fine with, but when I have to start peeling **** i get uncomfortable.

I've done repairs on touch pro's and touch diamonds, I can't imagine they are too different from an X1.
just make sure you don't place them sticky side down on anything and use tweezers so none of the oils on your fingers get on the sticky side.
Edited:
I'm getting the phone repaired through Clean Planet Repair (iphonerepair.com).
I had some problems with them the first time I sent it in, but the manager(?) contacted me and we came to a pretty reasonable solution.
That repairs in progress, so, if your HD7 is cracked there's a place that will have done at least *one* HD7 repair there...

I bought a cracked HD7 and can't find anyone who actually knows how to fix it.
Note:
I bought the phone because "Clean Planet Repair" at iphonerepair.com advertised a $99.99 repair and that seemed like a good deal. I mailed the phone there and they called me to say there was a 50-50 chance they'd break the LCD and I'd have to pay an extra $100 to have that fixed (part + labor) as well. They seemed annoyed that I had a problem with this.
On the site you read these great testimonials like "Trust this place, they stand by their promise." Quite a business model. I would not recommend them.

$100 to fix a screen (replace it) is a good deal, please get it done, as HTC will charge u more for sure..
I'm sure its the same deal as the hd2, you can replace just the lcd, but usually will damage the digitizer in the process so it's easier to replace both pieces together.
Good Luck
Post removed; update in first post.
ugh. This is what I'm most worried about happening to mine. I wish it was made of gorilla glass. Maybe I should have gotten the protection plan after all..
How do you guys crack your screen so fast? i had the HD2 since March and never even got a scratch, never used a case just put it in my pocket always... even droped it twice..
My hd7 is still flawless with no case..
i have literally looked everywhere for this part. can't seem to locate it in any of the repair parts store. has anyone seen it anywhere?
am i the only one who broke this battery hinge? =(
I broke mine.. I also had a problem with my touchscreen, so in sent it in for repair. Both parts were replaced.
I guess you might find it on ebay too..
I did try eBay with no luck =(

same thing happened to me... I've been looking everywhere with no luck!... does anyone know where I may be able to find a damaged Legend for sale anywhere?? ...maybe I can buy one and use the part from it
I have alot of spares, take pic of what you need and ill look...I also have a non-bricked,rooted HBOOT 1.00 board spare...
You could try,
https://htcrepairparts.com/
Why are back and front cover listed for Legend since its a unibody phone? -htcrepairparts
Hello,
I have the same problem too.
German Ebay helped me: German Ebay -> search for "HTC Legend Cover Gehäuse Rück" (Sorry, I am not allowed to post a link)
You get whoole middle part with hinge, which was broken.
Maybe you can get same part also in other countries or Chine.
I'm going to drag this thread up.
Did anyone go about replacing it? If so did you do it the slow and painful way (Taking the whole phone apart and replacing the whole chassis) or the quick, but risky way (just taking the hinge off the part and installing that to the original chassis, risk of breaking it though :\)
I'd really appreciate if you could let me know

How about buying a cheap legend on ebay
Hey guys! So i completely understand how to completely disassemble this phone due to how easy it is (it only takes ten minutes!). But i was wondering do you guys think it would be worth being out of a phone for like a day (while paint drys, etc.) if i painted the whole thing and got rid of some scratches? Im seriously contemplating doing it but i just wanted your guys opinions and also any ideas on what colors i should use . Thanks!
that could be very bad for one no more warranty and two the paint could flake off and damage the hardware inside i would just skin it if u want to change the color that bad.
Thanks.
Thanks mate. My warranty is actually long gone and i will be getting a new phone shortly. The reason i assumed this would work because i saw a guy do it on the evo in the portal. It was actually a top post for the day. Id think about skinning it but for some reason the difficulty of the project is intriguing me. But i will def take what you said into consideration. Thanks
thats cool just please post pics if u do it im interested to see how that would turn out.
Okay
I'd be glad to post pics but it probobaly wont be untill this weekend because i use my phone too much during the week. I was thinking a white and metallic silver look. What do ya think?
i always liked the flat black look
The htc back housing will take dye better than paint. There was some pretty easy steps way back when. Check out ppcgeeks touch diamond forums, or google it.

Hey thanks man.
Issue
Do you guys any idea how i could paint the hardware buttons to hide all the scratches mine had from when i "let" my sister "play with it. Do you thing if i just buffered it all out with a fine sandpaper or something and then paint around them that would work. Because i figured if i was going to make the whole phoen beautiful then i may as well fix this falw too. If you do not think that part is possible then i guess ill just buy new housing for like 5 bucks. But just lmk. Thanks
I like the chips and scratches on my phone -- it reminds me of Boba Fet's helmet.

That is clever
So today I am just chillin, and pull out my phone from my pocket and I didnt really grip it hard and just falls from my hands... I swear when it dropped it felt that it was falling in slow motion. And out of all the places it could fall, it falls at an angle and then on the screen.
I picked it up and I see the top of the screen has a crack from one side to the other, and another crack on the bottom right corner. And it gets worse, when I turned on the screen the touch doesnt work at all so basically my whole screen is messed up.
Found a website that sells the screen already glued with the frame and a battery so all its missing is the motherboard and internal stuff.
Buttt its $170 so yea gotta wait till next week when I get payed.
I would post pics but dont have 10 posts so yea, it really sucks I've had the phone for about a month and I always protected it. :crying::crying::crying:
Sorry to hear that but I've read that LG will repair your screen for less than that.

hmmm..... But isn't LG already being super slow to produce the device itself, would probably take them a month to do it and I kinda need a phone
Asking them to give you a price and time estimate cannot hurt. Additionally, the limiting step of production is more likely everything that goes on that motherboard, not the touch screen.

Damn man, that sucks. The first time my Nexus was dropped was from my friend being careless... So because of that, I made it so that no one except me can use my phone. I hated my friend for doing that because it was the first hour I had my phone...
But for the screen fix, try to see if you can find a lower price. Doesn't hurt to continue searching the web.

LG will not give you a quote. They will only say, "We cannot give you a quote without you sending it in. Please send the phone in to us, with you being responsible for shipping, and then once we've had a chance to look at it, we will let you know the cost of the repair."
Even after I pushed saying how about the front lcd and digitizer, they still wouldn't give me an estimate.
Sam Thing happened to me.. just 1 crack but half the touchscreen doesnt work.. i've seen plenty of ppl with cracked iphones whose touch still works.. called lg and they told me the same thing. Don't know if its worth wasting money on shipping just to find out they charge more for repair.. kind of a risk. Did you ever end up getting it fixed?
So was it worth not having a case?

In US is something like $140...in UK I will let you know on Friday when I receive the quote
That really sucks... Something about these new phones, in particular the ones with the new touch sensor in glass or whatever they call it. The touch response is gone on a crack. I recall my first Droid had two cracks across the entire face and it worked flawlessly... I think I'd rather have that 1mm gap in the display/glass then have to replace it due to a simple crack.

Ouch that really does suck
Hope you get it fixed pretty soon
knock on wood, i hope i don't drop it, i have butter fingers too, i did let it slip once but i had the usb cable in it still and it only fell like 2 foot on soft wooden floor, if you drop it from your pocket( 4ft >) and it hits hard floor like cement, its a goner i think!
