I don't understand why they keep comparing the newest phone to the iPhone 5. That makes no sense to me. That's like having a ford focus and keep comparing them to high end cars like come on wirefly knock it off.

Because that's what most people know. Many people get iPhone because it's kinda a status symbol of being hip or cool. Many people, that are not knowledgeable of technical specs, winner if it's better than an iPhone. Reminds me of the cartoon YouTube videos people made of interaction with a CSR at best buy when they are shown a phone that isn't an iPhone when buying a new phone.
My co-worker who loves her iPhone says that Samsungs break all the time and that Android phones constantly get viruses.
Oh did I have fun with her.

I totally agree with this thread and it is pain when my friends think there iPhone is better then my S4 then I show them the gimmicks like scrolling with my hand or eyes and all of the camera features then they finally say my phone is better. The IPhone should not be a symbol it still has a dual core processor and is way to locked down.

How about sites that do one sided reviews.
Like cnet is starting to see the light but they used to be Apple to the core. (people who say no, they have a segment called Apple byte just about apple)
I watch their prizefights on youtube and its horrible to have three out of the four judges have iphones.
Apple used to always win but now when a finally phones like htc one and gs4 are giving them no choice but to let apple lose. But they know the new ios update is coming so it wont be for long now. Just to catch people up. Iphone 5 dominated BB z10, Htc One cleary beat iPhone 5, Galaxy S4 just barely beat Htc One(at the end they still said go out and buy htc one(because they pay apple for patents designs now)). Lets see what they do when GS4 goes against iPhone 5. Based off this Gs4 is set to win but we'll see how cnet MacGyver's this one.
Well, what else are they going to compare it to, since most people have to make 2 decisions, iPhone or Android? You compare the best Android phone to the best iPhone, this being the iPhone 5. You can certainly also compare the S4 to the HTC One, but if you leave out the iPhone, you're doing people a disservice.

How many people disappointed with the new iPhone? Are people actually going to buy a repackaged iPhone 4? Yes, because there are always sheep.
Apple is really great at repackaging their products, iPhone 3g > iphone 3gs.
I would stick with an iPhone 4 if.I already have it. Only thing great about this whole ordeal is that the previous versions are way cheap but a bit outdated.

Ok back to normal.
What happened with all the rumors of larger screen, teardrop design, supposedly thinner? Maybe in the works for next year.
If people actually line up for this and wait for hours it has to be the end of our civilization as we now it.

That was an Epic FAIL for apple. And when I say Epic, I mean Epic Touch already has all those features hardware wise! Nothing new frrom Apple but a repackaged iPhone 4 with the same hardware already found in other phones. In fact, they are already behind with the Nexus Prime rumored to have the new Exynos 1.5Ghz Dual Core in it, so by the time the iPhone 5 comes out, they will already be behind again.
Copying BBM, Android Notifications, Google's cloud, 1080P video recording, and hardware found in other phones already, I was totally disappointed.
Instead of being the innovators, it looks like Apple is now playing catch up.

I have an iPhone 4 and knew over a month ago that the new iPhone would be very much the same as the current one but with upgraded specs and internal hardware.
Nevertheless, I'm a bit glad because I won't feel compelled to exchange my iPhone 4 for the 4S. I will, however, enjoy using iOS5 on my iPhone 4 on Oct 12.
the major difference is just a faster CPU
and now it can do both CDMA + GSM in one phone
everything else is not even worth mentioning as they are really seasoning on top of the meat
their marketing team is pretty good at what they do, i'm assuming the 5 will be along these new specs but with LTE chips, NFC and maybe a little something else?...
christmas time?
Here is what the 4S provides:

Siri is really cool, and the upgraded CPU and GPU is nice too, but it looks like i'm going to stick with Android and buy the Galaxy Humongous aka the Galaxy Note.

Hey XDA community, I've been coming and going alot lately but I got tons of headaches off this so i thought let's see what you guys think,
I was offered a free ipad 3 from my brother, against getting a N7 from my out pocket, I has an ipod 4g and HTC explorer, so am not a fan or a
hater for any of those platforms actually I love them both equally plus, they are almost identical when it comes to apps availabilty, I know the ipad
might have a slight edge in frames in that area, now onto the most important part, I'll use it mainly for ebooks reading as am studying Comp.
Science and am a gamer web browsing .. ofc ! ( again no hate for the 7-in screen ) and please don't point to the "issues massacre" that's going on
about the N7 althought RMA is not an option for me if anything wrong goes on ...
long post, sry

Get the nexus 7. Compared to the iPad, n7 is just more convenient to hold and type in terms of weight and size and more portable. The size is good enough for reading also at least for me.

Can you get both?
If in your position I would probably try and decide which size device would suit me better.... The bigger iPad is less portable and harder to use as a regular e-reader, but might be better for browsing and textbooks with diagrams and pictures.. The Nexus is more portable and a great all rounder (I am doing an IT degree and have no problems reading my textbooks.
I personally detest Apple's business practices and would never buy one of their devices, but their products are solid and you probably can't go wrong either way.

you've got a good point, reading text about source code might get ugly on the N7 while going back and forth ...

That's not a biased response at all.
@OP- I own both, and both are great devices in their own regard. The screen on the iPad is unparalleled, it has a ton of awesome games, and a bunch of great productivity apps. The Nexus 7 has the customizability, and a great form factor, plus all of Google's great cloud services. I take my N7 with me, and use the iPad at home. I think the 7" is a much better size for portability, and it's the perfect size for gaming, but unfortunately the iPad just trumps Android with the shear number of high quality games available. The N7 is also a better size for reading too. If it comes down to getting an iPad 3 for free or actually buying the N7, then I would take the iPad no question. If you were going to have to spring for either, then it would be a toss up and I would lean towards the N7. If I was in your shoes though, I would take the free iPad and buy an N7

Initially I bought the Nexus 7 in addition to the iPad but since owning it I just haven't put it down. Yes the iPad has more polished apps but the sheer power, flexibility and portability of the N7 can't be beaten. I found I simply couldn't justify keeping the iPad!

Have a galaxy s3, which I love. Does everything I need. I was wavering tonight between this, the g-note, and the Asus transformer i700. The last two get such mixed reviews...so I'm really leaning towards this. I think the smaller screen and cheaper price tag make it a much better choice. I just want a new toy. I'm hoping I can see one in person tomorrow.

If you don't have a family member who can take your old tablets off your hands, I'd recommend selling them or trading them in and get the Nexus 7. Assuming you get a flawless unit, you'll love the little guy.
I barely use my macbook pro anymore...even though I love it. I find the gs3 really satisfies everything I need. The bigger pads are just too big to be comfortable. If I were to get a bigger one it would probably be the iPad3, seems like the best overall package. Just hate that I can't customize it as much. I think the 7 will really be the perfect fit for me. WOW slim do not be such a dizzy..
As far as this Device I love the size . It seems to be the size vs the other bigger tablets . A phone or galaxy note is to small for a tablet. but to big for a phone.. I am the owner of a ACER A500 AND Love the Device. My spouse uses it on the couch now since i have my Nexus with me all the time. She is becoming and Android APP.CHIC.. I love that i can fit this in my smaller purse or a bigger clutch type bag and pack it anywhere and still look Good ..Not like im packing a Diaper bag to hold my tablet in...
I say its a personal thing rather this fits your needs or not.. If you have a bigger device you could very well think this is too small..
Look at the specs and what you want it for and make a Educated decision do NOT base buying anything on some one else saying they have and Love it.. GET WANTS Practical for you as long as there is NO APPLE ON IT.. APPLES ARE FOR WORMS ...

I own both an iPad 3 and a Nexus 7
I tend to find the Nexus is better for organisation, also for reading news. However the iPad is better for "Creating" content, or for doing actual work. Purely because it has more apps (and very good ones too)
Hopefully Android catches up and offers high quality content creation apps soon
I would recommend a Nexus tho
So long story short, I am trying limiting my spending on electronics, which has become an expensive habit.
Started off with a GS3...last week I traded that for an iphone 5, and tonite, I answered an ad for a guy wanting to trade his HTC One for, you guessed it, an Iphone 5. We sceduled to meet tomo during my lunch break.
Really stoked to get this bad boy! Got my sis a GS4, which is a beast itself. Im currently using a Note 2, so I wanted to try something different, something other than a Samsung device. I know im gonna miss the big screen, but that super crisp screen on the One will definitely make up for it. Cant wait to try all the camera functions as well as test out the front facing speakers. Hope there arent any hiccups in the trade.
So, what functions do you absolutely love on your One?

Very informative. Thanks for sharing.
My only question is who in the right mind would trade an HTC One for an Iphoney 5... well either way its definitely a come up for you:good:.
There's a lot to be loved about the phones design and functions in all honesty. Here are my top 5 favorite aspects
1. Design quality is amazing, once you pick it up you won't want to put it down or put a case on it, while all hardware buttons are well placed as well.
2. Screen quality 1080p 468 dpi(highest on the market)- It's definitely the best screen I've ever used on any mobile phone.
3. Sound quality- With the front 2 speakers using boom sound is definitely going to throw you off at first, its quite astounding for a cell phone with either calls or music.
4. Zoe- The camera might be overlooked for the basic fact that its 4 ultra pixels but honestly IMO it's on par with most but with the Zoe feature being able to capture highlights of your day is definitely fun to use that brings something new to the table.
5. Sense 5- The new UI is slick and fast, there are a few new features that were added but blink-feed stands out the most to me which I enjoy thoroughly.
Your making the right choice my friend, hopefully the deal pulls through:good:

Gsmarena is conducting a smartphone comparison war and to my surprise our Nexus 4 is compared with a Lumia 520, whats disappointing is that our N4 is losing in terms votes to lumia,Come on people vote.I really dont want to see the nexus loose to a lumia

I'd say the n4 is better than the 1520 maybe not in hardware but the software more than makes up for it, I couldn't use Windows Phone for more than a week before scratching my eyes out

I guess there is a significant rise in stubborn people who claim that windows phones are better than android and ios at the moment(it may get better in the future but certainly not now).I got a friend who had an htc sensation and was stuck with sense and ics,the phone still lags like hell and no matter what he still thinks all android phones lags like the htc and is too stubborn to accept the fact that he choose poorly.
Nexus 4 is still a flagship phone, despite the release of Nexus 5. It's just one year old, for crying out loud. It packs better configurations and way better day-to-day performance than most of other available phones. I do not understand how it is compared against Lumia 520. Also, I noticed it is getting lower votes than the Lumia, how come?

Man I had that phone too, and without customizations it DID suck. Not everyone is savvy enough to root their phone (read: 90% of users) to make it more usable. But that phone was a POS until I rooted it. Before Jelly Bean I wouldn't have recommended an Android to anyone, let alone ICS. It was bad enough that I can't blame some people for having a tarnished image now (literally caused so much frustration).
Having said that, I'd recommend a Nexus 4 to anyone and their mother. It's user friendly and lightning fast with way more options than a Windows Phone. Although a Windows phone may still be smoother...

I have a lot of friends that think this way. Here in Brazil ppl buy those crap and old samsung phones like the S duos for the same amount of money they could buy Moto g then starts to blame android. Here on brazil ppl just dont realize there are life outside samsung world. When I got my N4 my girlfriend got OG and my best friend got S3. All 3 for the same money. No matter what I cant convince him that S3 for the same money was a poor choice. Now, after 4 months his S3 lags like hell, he is afraid to root and use lag fix. 4.3 and its trim support didnt arrive yet and he regrets every time he see me playing games or trying a new feature in android.

I guess its the same everywhere!
Even in India
They buy s3 and after it starts lagging, they say android is a laggy os!
This really pisses me off!
However it's only human psychology that if something is costly, it must be good!
Maybe that's why a company like apple makes an i5s for 150$ and sells it for 700$!
They rob people and people love it!

see the comments bro, there a lot of wp fan boys in gsmarena, always criticising android and thinks windows phone is superior to android, its quite funny actually when the try to cover up all the downsides of wp,some of them responded to " lack of apps in the windows store problem" saying we dont need any apps then why the hell do they buy a smartphone
results are out
"The Nokia Lumia 520 found itself trailing at the start, but the most popular WP handset gathered enough support in the latter stages of the game to turn it around"

here in brazil is way poor. moto g is 450$ here .
also here samsung make lots and lots of exclusive entry devices with old armv6 processor, and so ppl blame android for hte lag.
when i took my nexus 4 and compared with my friend´s iphone 4 and when ppl saw that n4 was more faster. they were like "omg omg android is not lag, omg omg omg"
Wtf!! Tech writers and so called tech experts on tech sites are to blame here, they have no knowledge, use same techniques to compare, most of their views are on how a device looks, could give thousand examples of this
And once a phone is 6 months old, it becomes a dinosaur for them, they often compare it with crap.
