is the NEXUS 4 just a cheap LG OPTIMUS G knockoff? - Nexus 4 General

without a skin?....
DISPLAY - much better on the G + more screen real estate
SPEAKER - crystal clear and super loud vs tinny and average
LTE - vs no LTE
BUILD QUALITY - nexus 4 feels cheap, the back so called "glass" feels like plastic
STORAGE - 32 vs 16gb
BATTERY LIFE - optimus G is better
but the price bracket, its possibly the best phone out now. but $200 more (where i live) you can buy a better version but with LGS skin and slow updates/if any
what i am getting at is, its NOT an optimus G running stock like everyone thinks, if you have held an optimus G you will know how premium it feels, the sound, the display (regardless of gamma, francos kernel, looks better on the G) storage, LTE, etc

What on earth do people want for the price?

Feels cheap? I had a Galaxy S2 and compared to that the Nexus 4 has got a premium feel!

Yeah I think he is nuts in that one. Also the Optimus Gs software makes it feel cheap.

Lol troll elsewhere OP.

Have you held an optimus G? It feels exactly like our nexus 4's. And like someone said earlier, LG's crappy ui is almost as cheapish as touchwiz IMO. If you don't like the phone, then go rant somewhere else. You're likely to find more hate than love here.

[Q] The benefits of GB on OB??

I am looking for a phone to get my mum for Christmas and have been considering Optimus Black as a possibility. The phone looks so sexy and sleek but its screen is large and the display awesome. It's not a high performance phone but that means it isn't as expensive which is good for me
That brings me to the point about the pending gingerbread update and its possible benefits or drawbacks. I was at Telus (I live in Canada) today and tested out one of them and found it to be slightly twitchy. Scrolling from canvas to canvas and up and down through the launcher wasn't too bad. But when I was adding widgets and zooming in and out of the homescreens it started to respond more slowly. My mother will mostly browse the web and stream videos but I didn't get a chance to try those features out because the lack of a wifi connection. I am worried that it might not be as smooth as I'd hoped it to be and
that my mom will start complaining that I didn't get her an iphone
What I want to ask current OB users is:
1) How do you find the web browsing and Youtube video streaming (as well as streaming 720p videos)?
2) Will the Gingerbread update make the overall experience smoother or slower (the guy at Telus said the Gingerbread update will in fact make it slower)??
Thanks for reading and giving your advice!
Hi,
I'm considering this phone too.
I really doubt that GB will be Slower than Froyo. Every single review that i saw, said that this phone will be faster with GB.
The main thing that i'm not so sure about this phone is ICS Support and availability , so i'm considering Xperia Neo too.(it already has GB ROM)
True. If ICS support is important for you, going with sony ericsson's 2011 phones is your best bet.
Btw, what's the difference between the neo and the neo v? They look exactly the same and they seem to be exactly the same on paper except for the camera (I'm guessing that 's what the V stands for) :-$
It's not even like the xperia arc and the xperia arc s where the s was somewhat of an upgrade...

Hi,
Difference between those two is : sony factory in Thailand has problems supplying ExmorR 8MP CMOS Sensors , so they downgraded it to 5MP, and also some minor software changes.(BTW , i'm not sure about screen quality of Neo vs Black too)
Backing to your Question: again I don't think GB will cause more problem than Froyo.
Oh I see! wish there was a shop that had all the phones in the world
Not just plastic models :-(
But thanks for your reply. OB does seem like a solid choice though se, phones look tempting too. Any other phones you're looking at that 's around that price range?

Hi,
Another option that i'm looking at is Samsung Google Nexus S (i9023). In my country price difference between them is around 50~60$. It doesn't have SD Card or Radio FM , but 16 GB Internal memory and from DEC 17 , Google started to roll out ICS for this phone (all carriers should get it in 1 month time frame).
In canada i think it's available with Bell & Virgin mobile & NCIX is selling unlock version for 350 (special sale)
I've got the Samsung Galaxy S II X from Telus a few days ago and I'm thinking of taking it back and getting the LG Optimus black.
The GS II is sooo big. You must sign a 3 year contract for it and Telus evaluates the device to 600$.
Right now the Optimus black is 299$ (0$ with just a 2 year contract).
I like the fact the screen on the LG is IPS and it also has the Gorilla Glass.
BTW: Coming form Motorola Milestone must say Gingerbread (latest Cyanogen Mod 7) is the best thing that happened.
The battery life improved (was getting 2-3 days) and the degree of customization is fantastic.
CM7 for Optimus Black is already available so I would worry more about the official ICS for Optimus Black.
I've seen a post where someone was quoting LG UK on Facebook that ICS will come on Optimus Black in 2012.

Hi,
If the size is your main reason to change (Beside that SGSII has superior hardware compare to Optimus Black) , then don't do it.
SGSII Dimentions : 125.3 x 66.1 x 8.5 mm
Optimus Black Dimentions : 122 x 64 x 9.2 mm
The difference (3mm) is almost nothing. Check this too :
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3704&idPhone2=3621
Beside that , SGSII will have official ICS ROM but Optimus Black, i don't know ..
and if official ICS is too important ,you can go with Google Nexus S (already has ICS)
My second smartphone at home is my daughter's Xperia Neo V.
In my opinion:
Neo is slightly smaller so better for smaller women's hands ( better grip )
Black's display is better ( more crisp )
OB vs GSII

I had no idea the dimensions are so close.
Thanks for pointing this out.
In the end, I think the SGS II is a keeper. I guess I over reacted reading all the stuff about the flash counter, amoled burnin, etc.
Correction:
I checked the specs myself and the SGS II that Telus sells is the Hercules version so here is the comparison:
Optimus Black: 122 x 64 x 9.2 mm / 109g / 4.5" screen
SGS II X : 131 x 67.3 x 9.4 mm / 109g / 4.0" screen
Still not too big of a difference.

[Q] I need an advice... Motorola Droid Razr or Samsung Galaxy S2?

Hy, i want to trade or sal my LG Optimus 2X and i don't know what to get. I wand a Motorola Droid Rarz or a Samsung Galaxy S2 (i don't like it but i can trade my phone with one, for Razr i should wati to sell it...). I don't know what to choose,
P.S: Any phone i get i will flash CM9
If you can really just 'trade' it, you'd definitely be better going for the S2. As far as specs go, the RAZR isn't really that good, and S2 is simply just the best android available right now.
If you want to sell the 2x for a new phone, I'd recommend to just wait for a while to get the newer gen phones. It isn't really worth the hassle to sell the 2x to get last year's phone. There are better phones coming, such as the HTC One X, One S, which are gonna be released not so long from now. They have next gen CPUs, so it's worth the upgrade. If you want to wait longer, there's the S3 with rumored awesome specs, but it isn't coming until May/June.
I would have got Razr if i had option...Everytime only specs doesn't matters, if looks are killer, specs don't matter anymore- atleast for me
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA
Between those two I would get the GSII
Since I don't need a quad-core device, I would definitely go for the GSII
+1 for GSII. But why do you want to trade your O2X and buy a very similar (regarding the specs) device?
As silentmelodies said, next gen devices are coming... Just be patient.
because i need i 4.3 or bigger display. The next gen price will make all of us dizzy ). This is in Romania. I usually keep a phone at least 3-4 months, i have the LG O2X for 7 months
SGS2, FTW!
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk
im not a fan of samsungs amoled but between those two, i would also go for the sgsII, huge dev support, great specs..
+1 for asking why you want to sell your o2x? official ics is near and ips display is waaaaaaay above amoled if it comes to true colors.

Oh... So buy now a GSII and wait until the next gen devices arrival. By the end of the summer you will be about to sell your 4-5month old GSII for a new one.
The S2 has the better developer support, so yeah, I think that's another winning factor

Personally I'd go with the Sony Xperia S. Looks good, a reasonable size and some nice features.
Wouldn't change my IPS screen on the O2X for a SAMOLED Plus, it's just too colourful and somehow splashy for my taste. Though it is a bit bigger on SGSII.
O2X via TT2
I'm voting for the underdog. The Droid RAZR. As long as root can be obtained (which I checked and we can), I should be happy.
In my country, the SII is being common sight. So I want me a unique Kevlar @ssed phone.
build quality on the razor is a lot better than gs2, though i did sell the razor, and went back to using my bad ass 2x (':
Look i never own s2 but i owned 4 of 5 galaxy s 1. Series.
I got droid RAZR over this weekend.
Own droid 1.
I can tell you this galaxy s 2 isnt any better then RAZR simple fact the s2 launcher blogs up or hipcus.
The minute you play 25 mins on game gta 3 or watch movie it freeze until the app right back.
just like on galaxy s 1 i had which was fascinate and vibrant that why i hack it.
Droid RAZR if you download over 50mb it does fizzled for a sec but it download in less 5 mins. Something the s2 take about 7 to 10 min.
If you go based on specs DROID RAZR is 540x960 resolution over 480x800 galaxy s2.
DROID RAZR is 16 gb internal storage over galaxy s2 that have 2 gb or 2.20 gb internal storage found in epic touch or galaxy s 2 aka Hercules in united states. The galaxy s2 in Europe. Did it smart with 16/32 gb internal storage instead of being cheap like us carriers did to save money.
Both have 1gb of ram.
both have 8 megapixes
Both have 1080 p video recording and playback.
DROID RAZR have led notifications
Galaxy s2 dont.
Galaxy s2 have easy to hack.
But DROID razr isnt friendly but where their a will their way go to droid life or droidforums for info.
DROID razr is water repellent check YouTube or try it on your own.
galaxy s 2 isn't
Galaxy s2 is bigger 4.5 over 4.3
Both have super amoled plus.
DROID RAZR have better built quality.
galaxy s line is to plastic like iphone 3g and 3gs.
Galaxy s2 have 2 megapixes on front face camera better than DROID razr 1.3 megapixes.
however the DROID RAZR have 720 p video recording ffc and s2 dont.
DROID RAZR have ppi of 256 and galaxy s2 have 216 ppi.
Droid razr have similar if not the same processer as gnex with omap 4 1.2ghz dual core and. Usa have snapdragon which suck. Only sprint have s2 have Exynos 4210 like Europe instead of slow in my opinion snapdragon s3 processor. Remember htc cough their issue is due to low mah power they put on their phones and snapdragon processors. So if im you guy avoid buying snapdragon device their horrible.
Im not bias stating the facts and i love fact that DROID RAZR lock backdoor.
Thank me if you like this.
Fyi i had to many htc to know if snapdragon isn't 2 reason of why htc phone dont last long.

[Q] Nexus 4 vs galaxy s3

Is nexus 4 close to or better than the galaxy s3. if so what is the reason i know it has wirless charging but other than that what else can it do better?
Galaxy s3 also has wireless charging. Both are good phones. The nexus 4 has a better processor, father updates, etc. The gs3 on the other hand has 4glte, an arguably better camera, and if you're a contract guy you have to get it.
Can't go wrong with either.
Also there is already forums for this I'm pretty sure...
My Nexus 10 is better than your tablet. Hah.
Hi,
I had the S III for about 6 months and I have the Nexus since 1 week (before I had a Samsung Galaxy Nexus).
In short Nexus... it's Google: updates, no bloat (no crappy overlay like Touchwiz) pure Android, it's a Qualcomm / Adreno hardware (but Samusng RAM LOL), like the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (TI-> Texas Instrument), more source etc, take a look in the GS III forum about Exynos source's... you'll be disapointed.
It mainly depends of your needs, pure Android experience, with a lot of new ROM with diferent features, kernel, sources ("stock Android", AOSP, CM, a mix, etc...) go the Nexus Line...:good:
If you want multiwindow, pop-up play, smart-stay buit-in and a Samsung device with, in fact good hardware, go for Samsung. But you'll stay ... "sur ta faim" (sorry )...
If you want all the "after market" features, I mean devs , go the Nexus! I owned a Galaxy Nexus then a S III... Back to the Nexus :silly::fingers-crossed::laugh::laugh:
And yes there are thread here and in the S III forum about comparison... After that bigger screen for the S III (not that much) but in hight light like sun it's not terrible, diferent design, 4g / LTE (it depends of your country), extanted storage, etc... and wirless charging for both like b4silver said.
Hard choice... give the Nexus 4 a try not the S III for now...
There's already a thread for this... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021559
I just traded my galaxy s3 for a Nexus 4. The camera on the s3 ALOT better. The nexus 4 camera isn't bad though. On custom Roms the s3 battery sucked. Nexus 4 wins in this department. I hatred touch wiz on the s3. This was the main reason I switched to the nexus 4. I can also see a big difference in the snappiness of android on 4 cores on the nexus compared to the two on the s3.

I love my nexus 4. I had the s3 and I like the build quality of the s3 better. The nexus 4 looks good but the back cover is horrible. Its the noisiest cover of any phone I've ever used, well I had the lg optimus g and it was the same way. Its so load I actually woke my wife from her slumber while handling the phone. I've managed to take some of the creakiness out by ree removing the back cover and putting tape in the spots that are mushy. Other than the back cover being terrible, I like the nexus 4 better. Hopefully when my bumper comes I won't notice the creaking anymore.
Some of you will think I'm abusing my phone but I'm not. Before I put the tape on the inside edges, just grabbing the phone to pull it out of my pocket I could hear it creaking, it was driving me crazy.

Galaxy S3 pros:
SDCard
Replacable battery
better camera
S2 cons:
Bloatware
cheap feel
expensive
slow(ish) update cycles (not as bad as some thou)
Nexus4 Pros:
Stock Android, more consistent.
VERY affordable, great price performance
Photosphere
prompt updates
Great build quality
Great looks
Smaller than S3 but decent size display still
Better display.
Nexus4 Cons:
Glass back makes it feel slippery
Fragile, so don't drop
No SD Card

You should never compare camera's picture quality based off the resolution specs... I mean we had 8mp cameras on many phones and even digital cameras before but they're all different... You can't just say they both have 1080p so it's equal. It's like saying a coby tv is as nice as my Samsung tv.
Anyways, I have both phones, simply, nexus is the faster smoother phone. Whereas the s3 is fast also but.. there is always that stutter here and there.
I too was kept away from the nexus because no sd slot but, after using the nexus for a week it's definitely the better phone. Btw a custom Rom on the nexus 4 is equivalent or better than the s3. Many early comparisons around the forums or on those review sites may differ... but that's probably based off stock. Custom rom on the nexus 4 blows any other phones away. Yes our camera loses to the s3, ip5, one x/+, I wouldn't even be surprised if we lose to the razr hd maxx. But it's still a good camera...think in between s2 and s3

Just to put my two pence into this; in my experience, I've found that the Nexus 4 is more responsive to the touch/smoother. That being said, I can't deny the speed of the International GS3. Despite the Nexus having superior hardware, I consistently find that the S3 loads most things quicker. Especially when it comes to browsing, both running the same browser, S3 wins EVERY TIME, without fail - when I test, anyway. It doesnt make sense to me either, the Nexus 4 should theoretically far outmatch the S3 in speed, but it doesn't.

[Q] new phone

Hey People
Before i get pinned down for this being the wrong forum to ask this question, I still ask it, because here are in my opinion the best people.
My LG 4 x HD, has broken the glass under a small drop to the floor, so i need a new phone. And i have looked at LG Nexus 5 and LG G2
I am leaning towards the Nexus and the price is almost the same, but which one will you prefer and why ?
Kindly
Morten
I think this thread will be closed but anyway, if you don't need any update and can afford more money, go for g2. It has a better camera+better battery+better build quality in my eye. Choose nexus only if u want updates+developments and of course, if u r a freaking aosp guy
Sent from my Optimus 4X HD using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
no phone on earth can beat nexus 5 cost-effective......ness (if u live in usa).
if u live outside of usa, the price differences are less dramatic so u can go 4 the g2
he is better in many small ways from the nexus 5.
Well if you looking in long term investment then nexus 5 since not that long ago our beloved lg 4x hd was lg flag ship and now i dont even think they know it exist.Better hardwer on g2 yes but without software to run it it is useless.

He said that the G2 has the better specs about the question. I would prefer the Nexus 5 as it is pure Android + nice hardware + good price + good development/updates (official and unofficial).

Thank you for all the comments, i will go and buy the Nexus since it is slightly cheaper and properly better serviced (updated) then the G2 i have always preferred LG since they are a small company in Denmark and therefore fairly cheap compared to others. Also i do not think they as a loaded with bloatware as ex HTC. but now there's a Nexus i just have to try it and it has corilla class !

My Christmas Wishes for Nexus 4 (P.S: never come true)

My Christmas wishes for Nexus 4 that never come true are as following
+ 64gb internal storage
+ 3000 mAh battery
+ Snapdragon 810 processor
+ 20MP camera with OIS
+ LTE connection
This thread is just for fun. LOL
Wait a new N4 is on the way?
I know jk, my two year old N4 still chugging along. 5.0.1 seems to OK overall. We just need a newer 4.7 inch phone to come out. Recently I tried 2014 moto x and z3 compact. Both returned. X too big, z3 screen had crazy too sensitive screen but size was good. Maybe z4 compact will fit the bill. I just can't move on to the giant phones coming out these days.
I would be happy just with a battery like the Moto Maxx/Turbo one.
Everything is ok with nexus 4. It's fast enough, smooth and size is normal.
The only thing i wish is better battery. why there are not better batteries for this device? Other phones have. It's so sad
this is my result. I say its blazing fast, like lightning
Why 800 over 805? Still keeping my N4 till next year's flagships come out, I am not particularly enthralled by any of them, and as already stated, the N4 is still running along great.
You can get most of the above with a Sony z3 compact.....
It's the phone I'm seriously considering to replace my n4 with
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I read the Z4C is due soon. I tred z3c had over sensitive screen but I hear software just fixed that issue.
I will replace it for the Moto X 2nd Gen.. I like bigger phones than 4.7".. I would like 5.5 but 5.2 is OK for me...
And I think that my nexus 4 will need to relax for some time.. (Already recovered from 20 or 30 bricks.. ) will be the support phone...
There was a rumor that the N5 was going to be gone soon. Maybe they will release a new N4 but I doubt it. The only thing I never liked about the N4 was the battery, camera and LTE.
I just ordered a Moto X 2014 because of the cyber Monday deal. I really like the size and feel of the Moto X but part of me doesn't want to give up the N4. It's a great phone and I hope the Moto X doesn't have some of the same problems that the N4 has (battery life and camera).
the only one problem is I can't use the 4g with my n4 ( ,I rly satisfied with the battery, CPU ,screen, and ram. it's still amazing phone after 2 years. My friends bought the iPhone 5(699$) at the same time.when they update ios 8 ,become a bit lag.n4 is more smooth , screen bigger ,NFC ,and the worse camera. XD

z3c is going to be expensive
4G would be on my Xmas list. I'm actually paying for a 4G connection. I got a contract with a bundled HTC ONE M8, but I hated the handset and went back to my faithful Nexus, so I'm not utilising the 4G I'm paying for.
