Thanks mate, could have restored /system in clockworkmod but it would remove some changes I made and restore a lot of bloatware is there anyway to extract individual items from those .tar.a files?

I've seen on the xda forums that some people have 'extra' toggling buttons at the top of their notification drawer(hope it's the correct term, 1st three months as Android OS user), My friend's S3 has them by default too, does the Note have it? or is there a need for root/custom launcher; since S3 has a newer rev of the Touchwiz Launcher. If possible, i would like to avoid rooting!
What the phone currently has, from stock is just 5 buttons at the top, which are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Profile, Screen Rotation, Power Saving.
Wish to add: Mobile Data toggle/ Sync toggle (dunno if there's any more available)
something like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1620625
^yeap, that's it. but i have a query, it's my first time with an android phone, barely used for 4 months.
i don't get wat's flashing with CWM; does that require root? what exactly is CWM, apart from the full name?
does flashing that mod = voiding my warranty like what rooting does?
Bump. Anyone knows why the note doesn't have it o.o

You can use some app from playstore for extra toggles if you do not want to root but flashing this mod requires root and cwm.
If you are rooted, you can have 15 toggles without having cwm, here is a small guide- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30668303

To root your phone, you could simply flash a safe rooted kernel like Odin version hydracore through ODIN.
You will get yellow triangle and increased counter. But you can reset it easily with triangle away app by chain fire.A simple search would bring it up....

Thanks for the above confirmations/help provided.
One last query, how do I backup my current settings? I suppose the sequence is root, backup and then apply mod?

Bump!
Question in my above post in unanswered :x

when u root and apply a safe kernel like hydracore or speedmod.. u will get cwm thru which u can backup the ROM using the nandroid backup feature.
The best start is to get Rooted first.. then install the 15 toggles you want.. search threads and you will find a lot with different shapes and themes
Why is apk download disabled on jb and how soni fix this? I have two phones running one with ICS and one jb paranoid rom. I cannot bluetooth apks from ICS to jb phone or download from drop box or Internet either. I have to change file ending to jpg for it to work. Does someone know how to disable this?

What is the main difference?

In short the odexed firmware is faster and supposedly more secure (usually a stock build). A deodexed one gives more modification, themeable, and found in most custom roms.
In terms of user experience deodexed ROMs are only slower on first boot, after which they are or seem the same speed as the former odexed version/source.

Thank you for the explanation

It means that any apps in /system have an accompanying .odex file which includes integrity information about its corresponding package. This prevents these packages from being modified, which theoretically means that a factory reset/uninstallation of updates should always yield a known working app. Since themes and many customizations work by modifying the apks in /system, they'll fail the check against the corresponding .odex file and cause problems.
All you hafta do is download Titanium Backup. Once downloaded go into it and press menu then hit "integrate sys dalvik into ROM". Let it run and now you are odexed. It feels so much smoother especially the keystrokes as I'm typing this right now is ever smoother! You can also undo this anytime you want, to flash a mod or whatever by pressing menu and then hit "undo sys dalvik integration". Enjoy!
Odexed on the MF9 deodexed ROM

That doesn't sound quite right. It was my understanding that deodexed roms were only slower on the first boot. After that, isn't everything loaded into the cache anyway?

The only thing I use my kitchen for is to cook bacon...
Yes TB will Odex, also and FYI, the Kuban Odexer is another way to Odex. It's on Gplay as well...And it's from our own rujelus22. It is not free but RU is one incredible Dev, and does so much for Android and the Sprint community. Both are great apps

Title says it all. Forgot to backup before flashing a mod.
The file is in system\framework
Any help will really be appreciated.
Seriously no one?

Here it is. Make a system dump for yourself...its always necessary
I had a system dump, but it was odexed... Time to make a new one.

Deodex it and Adb pull /system
