Excuse me if this is kinda obvious. I have a Vodafone XZ and came with a firmware like this 10.1.X.0.235. Change it to a general Spain Rom, Vfone UK and others but the OTA updates don't finish when the Android robot appears. PC Companion just doesn't detect the updates. No roots, no bootloader unlocks, no nothing. What is that X I had in the firmware. Some guru help appreciated :good:

Hello everyone! Need help to unbrick my Moto
My scenario: I got UK model JB 4.1.2 with locked bootloader. I was trying to flash official Brazilian JB and RSD failed ( I know my bad). So got all drivers, RSD Lite 6.1.5 and so far I was trying UK Retail JB, UK Orange, EU Retail all these failed, I've removed 2 lines from xml file mentioned by somebody on xda but no luck, also I've been on Motorola site to unlock bootloader but my device is not supported after verification (weird). I can restart to bootloader screen, any other option like "factory" or "recovery" gives me a red moto logo only.
Please see pictures for more details, any suggestions?
Solved! I've used mfastboot commands to erase cache and user data and I'm back to fresh UK retail JB
i think it failed because you need unlocked bootloader for flash official Brazilian JB rom in a UK phone
if you have a UK phone, you need unlocked bootloader for Brazil rom ( can be OTA to kitkat)
if you have a Latin American you don't need unlocked bootloader, can be a locked bootloader
the ROM and the phone need be the same region if the bootloader are locked.
That's right ManoBros, it was good lesson for me with a little bit of panic and happy end. I'm big fan of Android smartphones and changing my phones very often but always back to RAZR I, in this case I will wait for official UK kitkat.
Hi,
Really couple of quick questions... I have read the tutorials on flashing stock firmwares, I have got all the software downloaded (Xperifirm and Flashtool). I just want to debrand my phone (i.e. no O2 apps and no O2 boot screen).
I have picked out the Customized UK Unbranded firmware 23.0..1.A.5.77.
My current firmware is O2 Pay monthly UK 23.0.1.A.5.77
Does anyone see any forseeable issues with what I am about to do? First time flasher of Xperia phones - I have been a Samsung shill for far too long!
Kind Regards,
Neil

Hi,
I've also got the phone on O2 pay monthly and considering flashing the generic UK firmware. Did you use the links on the firmware thread to obtain the UK one? The links seemed to not work when I tried to download.
Have you read about creating your own flashtool file (ftf) for the current firmware? I would advise you to do so before getting rid of the O2 firmware as a backup ftf. You can repair the phone using the Sony PC companion and that would download the necessary files to create the ftf.
I have used couple of Xperias before and have always used flashtool to flash different firmware many times. The consensus regarding warranty and flashing seems that you do not loose the warranty in doing so and I have hoped it is so in flashing the other Xperias.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this was not a successful attempt. I got the firmware using the app Xperifirm and decrypted it and created the flashing files in Flashtool as per instructions in another thread. I could not get the drivers to work correctly for Flashtool to function correctly however. Once I got to the flashing stage and Flashtool asked me to power down the device, I would then hold down the Vol - button whilst putting in the micro USB cable and it would fail instantly, first saying the driver was not installed and then after a lot of fiddling that the loader.sin would not install and again fail straight away. After a couple of hours of messing around I gave up.

Am I right in thinking that you downloaded this firmware when you posted about it back in 2015? If you did and you still have it would you be able to send me a copy? It seems to be unobtainable now from the internet.
Kind regards
Simon

Updating is easy and if Sony PC Companion is malfunctioning, you could use Flashtool ( get it here )
After that you can download the latest firmware ( ftf format ) here
There are some guides on how to flash the latest firmware, and don't worry flashing won't void your warranty or root your device.
This is the best and the most informative click me
Good luck
Hi
If I do that, will ota updates work in future?
Don't have time to fiddle around too much now and again every time there's an update,
Any ideas how to get it to pick up the ota update, which I'm sure has already been released for its region?
There's a thread around here with a tool to download the official full firmware files per region and flash them to your phone.
As long as you use a region that's compatible (with radios and all) the effect should be a perfectly fresh installed stock phone that will pick up OTA's just like any other official firmware.
sony flashtool or something? I can't remember.
Hi,
The firmware thats on the phone is global region,
23.0.A.2.93 - Unbranded - GLOBAL (1286-9917) #1
But i dont see lollipop updates for it.
Which region firmware should i use to flash?? Which would work 100%
Pls help with some advise asap which will work
Hello guys;
First of all, Let me post my phone software info:
Android Version: 4.4.2
Build Number: KOT49H.G870AUCU1ANG3
Phone Location: out USA
I tried all methods available to update my phone at least lollipop not even Marshmallow! and every time i get the message "The is the latest software update available to your phone"!
I tried the software update inside settings, Kies 3 (also emergency recovery method), Smart Switch, AT&T SIM Card inserted with USA VPN...etc)...non of them worked for me!
Does any one manage to have a legit Lollipop or Marshmallow Odin Stock Flash?!
I saw some methods over recovery with OTA update packages but it is too risky since there is no Stock ROM for the device in Sammobile also i am afraid to brick the device or losing IMEI and no service Box is supporting it!
looking for your help!?

Thats becuz there isnt for att yet. Therr are over the airs for 5.0 but nothing else. And the update to 5.1 but its stock and unrooted you have to be rooted im sure for that and using flashfire for it so it just changes rom and not bootloader . Allowing you to still downgrade back.

Hi i am new here and need help with updating my Samsung note 9 i still have a baseband N960USQS1ARI5 but will like to update to the latest firmware. i'm using an unlocked AT&T phone. can anyone guide me? I'm not sure if updating the firmware will lock the phone and the process to update, do I just update the firmware in stages as the updates were released till i get to the latest update or can i update straight up to the latest? I am thinking of using Odin, is that a safe way to do this? any help will be appreciated. Lastly, can I change from the AT&T firmware to lets say a none carrier based firmware so as to stop seeing the AT&T logo on boot up? Maybe switch to a firmware that supports global or international? Does anyone have links to an unlocked firmware update i can use, as well? Please help!
I must state that the phone never updates automatically as it always says the software is up to date.

to your last point, at&t phones are notoriously bad at updating
factory unlocked phones will remain forever unlocked and phones unlocked that are bespoke to a specific carrier will also remain unlocked even with Odin flashes providing that the method employed to unlock it was legitimate. Some unlock methods employ root and only trick the phone into thinking its unlocked. Well, once you remove root, and thusly the trick, the unlock is gone. I have ran across rare examples where the person swore up and down that they unlocked their phone with a legit unlock code and that it relocked to a carrier once the sim was inserted and initial programming completed, but i dunno. Sounds weird to me, but every person who said this also said that the phone locked to a carrier other than the one it came from originally. Take that for what its worth, but i still mostly stand by the first couple lines of this section of my diatribe
If you want the at&t crap gone, get the N960U1 firmware and flash it in Odin. You will need the modified version of Odin to flash it so it can ignore the 255 errors the phone throws up from flashing firmware for a carrier (or, in this case, no carrier) on to a phone that it wasnt originally designated (not designed) for
go to sammobile.com/firmwares, get the info for the firmware you want to d/l, get the Frija tool or Samfirm and download the firmware thru one of those as theyre literally 5x faster and flash it
