I managed to get the Mms.apk from Cyanogen working on my stock deodexed rom. Settings works perfectly. All I did was compile against the stock sources, and voila, it all works.
I have only tested it on my Rogers i9020a Nexus S, running 2.3.4. Let me know if you have any issues.
I have attached both an apk for package installers, and also a zip for cwm. I highly recommend making a backup of your existing Mms.apk before trying this one, just in case.
Sweet! Thanks for this.
So you decompiled and recompiled? Can u explain more?
i grabbed the latest code for Mms from the cyanogen project on github, and i just replaced the stock Mms source with the one from cyanogen in the android source. i then compiled it, tested it on my phone, and it worked!
Oh ok. Nice job! Works great on Oxygen 2.2.1
Works on bugless and installed fine for me normally, thanx!

Noobish question, what exactly is the difference between this Cyanogen MMS.apk and the stock MMS.apk?

The Cyanogen MMS is more configurable. You can toggle between the standard white background and black background, you can change the font size, SMS split options, change the attachment save folder, custom user agent and other things.

After updating to latest bugless release installing isn't working anymore, it keeps going back to stock after a reboot. I used root explorer to delete stock and stuck the apk in system/apps and matched permissions and that worked.
Quoting myself is odd but I wanted others to see both of my posts together.

Thanks.

i'm pretty sure you have to be rooted to use this, as i don't think you can get at the Mms.apk when your phone isn't rooted. i could be wrong on that. anyone else know for sure?

The OP has a zip for clockwork recovery so using it without root should be OK but you would have to unlock the bootloader and fastboot flash clockwork first which is hallway to root so just take the plunge lol

it looks essentially the same as the stock MMS.apk, but when you go to Settings, you have the option of changing the background to black, and changing the font size, etc.
IMPORTANT: I stopped this project (lost interest, no time, etc.), so therefore I will NOT be supporting anyone and will NOT be answering questions. Thank you.
This is a themed version of the Droid 3/XT860 keyboard.
I can't guarantee any results, anything you do to YOUR phone is YOUR responsibility. Though replacing one app will not brick your phone, you never knowXT862 [Droid 3] Blur Odexed System
Download and unzip XT862_Blur_odexed.zip
If you still have the stock Blur latinIME.apk then just replace that with the new one.
Set correct permissions (rw-r--r--). You're done so reboot.
But, if you did replace the stock keyboard, put the latinIME.apk and latinIME.odex in /system/app/
Then put libjni_latinime.so in /system/lib/
Set correct permissions for all files
Reboot

Download and unzip XT862_Blur_deodexed.zip
If you still have the stock Blur latinIME.apk then just replace that with the new one.
Set correct permissions (rw-r--r--). You're done so reboot.
But, if you did replace the stock keyboard, put the latinIME.apk in /system/app/ and put libjni_latinime.so in /system/lib/

Download and unzip XT860_Blur_odexed.zip
If you still have the stock Blur latinIME.apk then just replace that with the new one.
Set correct permissions (rw-r--r--). You're done so reboot.
But, if you did replace the stock keyboard, put the latinIME.apk and latinIME.odex in /system/app/
Then put libjni_latinime.so in /system/lib/ (<--- I Don't have this lib in the zip, can someone upload it for me?)
Set correct permissions for all files
Reboot
If anyone has a rom based on the Droid 3 [XT862] (MavROM, DarkDroid, Liberty etc.) then follow the XT862 Blur Deodexed directions and replace all three files.
Other variants (XT883, etc.) follow the XT862 directions
If this doesn't work for you, let me know.
Note: These zip files are NOT flashable
And as always, backup your files
It has become apparent that this is not working for many people, and I don't know why because it is working perfectly for me. Anyways, I advise you not to try this unless you have a backup of your original files and if you can get your orig. keyboard back.
This spot is taken......

Can't get this to work. Does owner and group need to be root? I changed that also but still nothing. And i can't get my old keyboard back either, so i'm stuck with using the slide out. I'm really a noob at this, but shouldn't the LatinIME show up as a installed app? If it is, how do i add it back?
Im using safestrap version of steeldroid3

I have tried all the different ways in this thread and none of them work for me. Currently I am running dark droid rom. I am going to switch over to steel droid to see if it works on that rom.
This is mod for ODEXED ICS based ROMs. When using the Dsxida's kitchen, there was a slight problem. so I made some modifications to AutoDEOTool
Manually Deodexing :
to decompil an odex file you needs the BOOTCLASSPATH..
It is a list in specific order of some framework .jar files..
It is different in function of the APKs

Run AutoDEOToolMain.bat
1.Place the JARs and corresponding ODEX files in the directory "_framework".
Otherwise, place deodexed framework JARs into the directory "deodexed_JAR".

3. To deodex framework files

This manual was written in order to develop more easy deodexed rom..
if you want to getting the pure deodexed ROM, You need to have a separate build process..
So i would need to re build my entire rom?

I'm unable to root my phone with the methods I've tried. It sits at a screen that has the HTC Logo and says, "This build is for dev purposes only..."
I've been told in another thread that there is no root for the golfc.
Make a clockworkmod backup and send me your boot, I can modify it to have root access.
Dont flash superboot it will work but, break your wifi.
Other thing if you flashed superboot you can flash my oc kernels I think it's compatible with cdma too, just copy /system/lib/modules/ files from my rom to enable wifi, push to your phone same directory.

This is using stock unmodified kernel from HTC. Kernel source can be grabbed from HTCDev
