Been having this issue since before I even left the store with my new One.
Something like this would pop in the notification bar:

Also, I'd occasionally get a notification that the network didn't respond in time, the SIM card has locked and that I need to power cycle. Voice and data always worked. But either of those two would pop up at least once an hour. Yesterday, I pulled the SIM and and put it back in. That notification doesn't appear anymore, but I keep getting a notification that "the process com.android.phone has stopped", about every five minutes. My data connection will then tank for a few seconds and come back.
What could be the problem? I have no experience with SIM cards. Do I get a new SIM card?
Been getting random sim card errors as well.

I took the Sim card out and out it back in. Read somewhere that they come loose every now and then.

Taking the SIM card out and in at first stopped the invalid sim messages, but lead to the com.android.phone error like once every two minutes. Which sucked. Eventually it went away on its own though. But it came back a couple days ago, and happened like once every 30 seconds. It made the phone unusable. It got better by itself after about a day, the error is much less frequent now. PRL/Profile update did nothing.
I factory reseted, but both errors are still present.
What could possibly be causing this? Do I have a defective device? Sprint was clueless on the phone. It was doing this before I even left the store, but I wrote it off as nothing. Could I have a defective device?
Nahh i wouldnt even go to sprint. May have a talk with htc as they know a lot more than sprint.

Got the same error but not on Sprint. It probably an error on 4g signal. My solution is to switch back to GSM Mode only, or WCDMA Only (either of the two), then restart your phone. It might be an fault on a 4g tower.

Have Sprint check to see if the UICC on your account matches the one in your phone. This happened to me when I got my One and it didn't come with a SIM, so I took an active UICC from another One and mine did the same thing.
It could also be an issue with the card, or possibly the phone. Sprint has a pretty crappy system in place for this whole SIM card thing anyways.

Is exactly what happened to me. Have an online chat with Sprint. They will adjust their info and give you a service update.
And if they tell you that you need a new SIM card, tell them that they're wrong and need to check your UICC ID.

very useful information, thanks, you save me the trip to Sprint!!!
Thank you so much for this advice. I had just taken my phone to the Sprint Store today after having my phone replaced and they couldn't figure it out. 10 minutes on XDA and I get the correct answer and resolved the problem by calling support. I should have checked here first!

Just purchased a used htc touch diamond that was locked to Orange UK. I've since apparently "unlocked" the device. The process went fine and the software reported back that the simlock had been removed.
However, after trying an o2 contract sim card in the phone, it never registers on the network. The sim card is known to be working and has been tested numerous times in my p990i and g900.
There is an exclamation mark on the system status bar indicating that there is no network available, however, the g symbol shows indicating that gprs is available, which it is. I can launch youtube and the browser and use the gprs access point to browse/search etc.
When trying to make a call I am greeted with the message, "operation failed".
Has anyone ever come across this and is there a known fault/fix? A little closure on this would be great as i've been pulling my hair out over it for the last three days.
I've tried various roms and radios. Currently running the latest official radio (1.11.25.1) and still no joy.
Any input/help/advice/solution would be greatly appreciated.
The same thing happened to me I was able to browse internet and even send text messages over the network but couldnt make calls. What I did is a hard reset (by holding the volume, action, and reset buttons). then it worked.. try that and let us know what happens

Was that after you unlocked your handset?
I've tried several hard resets with no result. Starting to really annoy me now. I'm actually posting this from my netbook thats connected to the diamond over usb. I have a hspda data connection, yet the signal bar still has an exclamation mark as if there wasn't any network available.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried everything mate. The thing thats bugging me the most, is that I didn't have an Orange sim (Original network) to hand to test the handset with before I unlocked it. I'm sure something has gone wrong in the unlocking process (Even though all steps were followed correctly, and no errors were reported at any point during the process).
I'm still connected to o2's hspda service and browsing/downloading without a problem.

I really hope it is something simple, but thus far, everything I have tried has been unsuccessful. Just took a few screenies of varying stages of trying to register on the network. Couldn't get a screenie of the net connection symbol alongside the signal icon, but I can guarantee that I am surfing the net with the offending phone as a modem.

hey man sorry for the delay i was busy.. Yeah it was right after I unlocked it. I put in my sim card, no service just internet (HSDPA) and I could even send text messages. When people call me only the keypad would light up but i couldnt answer and i couldnt even open the input keypad to dial a number, not even the phone application. All I did was a hard reset. Try changing several radios.. If not maybe change your rom. Let me know what happens.
What about changing the radio ROM

No worries bro, tbh, any help or input is better than nothing.
I can access the phone application just fine which is more frustrating. I can send mms and use all the data services. Its just calls and texts over gsm that are the issue.
The thing that is rattling me, is that if I click on system status, the icon for the reception actually indicates that there is reception available. And i'm obviously connected the the network if I can use the data services. (Sorry if I keep repeating myself )
I've changed radio/rom several times, with quite a few hard resets in between. I'm about to download a few stock roms/radios, and may even return the phone to a fully stock state. The only thing with that is that I can't reset the sim lock (At least I don't think I can).

I'm just curious, did you try to put other SIMs in your phone? Or does every SIM fail to connect (GSM-wise) and not just yours?

Hey man, I have tried a t-mobile uk sim which is known to be working. The phone registers on the t-mobile network, and I can use the data services, but again, I cannot call out, receive calls, or send text messages. Its a really strange scenario and i'm sure it must have been caused during the unlocking process. I just wish that there was something that could be done.

I had problems after unlocking a T Mobile MDA IV and using an o2 sim. My phone was generally ok apart from texts. Was advised to use radio 1.00.25.5 and works a treat now. Also got a new sim card as alot of people were saying older sim cards had some issues on these phones. By the way what SPL r u on?

Wow, yeah this is a strange one... To tell you the truth, I had the exact opposite thing that you have right now: I could make calls and send text sms via GSM, but I could in no way connect to the internet. But after I installed HTC Connection Setup (was not installed on the lite rom I use) the problem was solved... But you already tried this right, so I'm just as puzzled as you are. I take it you're as bald-headed as an 8-ball right now huh?

I've tried that radio with no success mate. Plus my sim card is pretty new. When I press vol down plus reset, the device lists that hard spl 1.24 is installed, however, I have just apparently installed the stock 1.93 spl so cant understand why its reporting back as 1.24??

It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. Connection setup has been on all the roms i've tried and run upon each setup process. Another baffling thing, is that when I click on the signal icon with the exclamation mark, the additional info suggests that there is a signal available. Will upload some pictures now to explain.
Ok, after another attempt at the stock 1.93 spl update, this is a screenie. Does this look right? What is the 1.00DIAM that is being reported as the update? Shouldn't this say 1.93?

what about flashing a O2 ROM?
might have some advanced network settings or something...
i'm probably talking absolute rubbish, but worth a try
I know it seems strange. I'm deployed to Afghanistan right now and brought my phone with me because it's my alarm clock. I since purchased the DishPointerAR app. (I'll be doing a review shortly) I now constantly have my phone with me. I don't like having it in normal mode because my T-Mobile Germany SIM is still in it and I don't want to rack up crazy charges over here. I DO however want to have the ability to use WIFI because we have a connection here that I use. I remember a while back I used a rom that had this built in, but don't remember what it was. Besides, I really enjoy cyanogen. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.
Not sure if this is what you want but try droid wall in the market. Blocks data use
for data you can try the app above or just go into your wireless settings and remove your current APN settings. also disable mobile networks and data roaming.
for voice calls, if you want to disable that, you can set all of your contacts to be sent straight to voicemail when they try to call you. i think you can even contact tmo and tell them to disable service temporary until you come back. or you can remove your simcard all together. if you lose the simcard you can always get a replacement without ill effects.
hope those are some alternatives you can try.
@Jamison904
That would be part of it. I also want to disable even the remote possibility of phone calls or anything like that. I keep getting messages that I have voice mails if I disable airplane mode. I've even had the phone actually ring. I don't want the ridiculous international roaming charges I'm sure to incur here.
@NguyenHuu
The SIM card thing would be a reasonable Idea. Although I don't know how my phone would do without a SIM in it. All contacts to VM sort of works, but sometimes people call from #s not in my contacts. I have no idea how T-Mobile Germany would be about putting my account on hold due to me deploying with US Military. (I went straight to the company, I didn't go through the re-seller on base that could maybe work those kinds of things.)

Apndroid is also an app you could use and it includes a widget to put on your home screen to turn off 3g/edge/gprs. It's in Wesgarner's rom which is based off of Cyan's rom or you probably can get it in the market.

man, there is actually an app that does exactly what you want. but i have no access to market now and i dont remember the name.
I will have a look for you in some way.
I remember the author posting on these forums.
Be careful, I'd rather deactivate voicemail in the web-control on T-Mobiles homepage. I don't know if things have changed but my old knowledge tells me that sending somebody to voicemail while roaming is more expensive than accepting a call (since the call is directed to you, then forwarded back to voice-mail, which would result in paying active+passive roaming fee)
If you deactivate voice-mail via t-mobile (can't do that via the phone's settings menus), you can just push the "hang up" button when the phone rings. Alternatively remove the SIM-card.
Remove SIM Card?
You don't mention you are using your phone for actual phone calls either (you say it's originally just for alarm), if this is the case, why not remove your SIM card? If you do this, no worries about calls or using mobile data. But, you will still have access to wifi.
Pull out the sim, flip it upside down, shove it back in while still upside down.
Well, I tried APNDroid but that was JUST for Data. The Anycut trick worked prefectly and does exactly what I was looking for. I tried the "turn the SIM around" trick, but I couldn't get the battery back in because the little nub on the batt that goes in the notch of the SIM. It DID work without a SIM at all, but I don't want to lose mine and rist TM Germany charging some stupid amount of money for a new one. Everything's working great now.

Not much imagination there, huh? You can actually TRIM the sim card or the battery to make it fit. The chip is ENTIRELY under the gold contact pads, so any plastic beyond the gold pads can be safely trimmed.
There is actually a free, dedicated app for this, it was also mentioned on the previous page (as an edit note though).
The app is called "Airplane Mode Wi-Fi Tool". It lets you connect to Wi-fi whilst having airplane mode activated.

So I do the complete load and restart of the EURO firmware and everything loads just fine through Odin, but the phone will not stop shutting off within 3-5 mintues, every time.....So I attempted to do a recovery reboot and data wipe, that way to get it started fresh and I get the notification that's in the 2nd picture. I can only ask, PLEASE HELP, PLEASE HELP, I'm already scared to think it's done for, but at least a little bit of encouragement might get me to save this precious tool of mine!
THANK YOU THANK YOU, I pray for a solution.
Can you take out the SIM card put it back in any other working phone say the Galaxy S and make sure its working? I can only suspect your sim card got fried since the tablet was working as a phone for 2 days. If there is any error in the modem or firmware it shouldn't work at all to begin with. Also if your line got blacklisted by your operator for one reason or the other (it happens) the sim will not work anywhere.
Your carrier probably removed your voice plan. A tablet is not a phone. The US carriers are greedy and want you to have 2 seperate devices.
If you want to use your tab as a phone, you may want to try downloading the google voice app and the groove ip app. I know this works for me with the Sprint Galaxy Tab and it uses voip so you don't have to have minutes or a calling plan. Been using it for a week now and the only issue is the groove ip app sometimes needs to be restarted so I get "registered" again. Works well on both 3G and wifi.

I swap them both, both working fine. Even right now the GS4g sim is in the tab.
Data connection, on both, with swapped sim cards is very iffy. wifi, is awesome!
@GldRush98 - I still have calling availability through the GS4g phone when I return both sims to the proper device. CAnnot make calls with the TAB sim in the TAB, looking into SIP calling. I wish it was easy to set up.......I've been searching alot and almost have found a completely free way, but we'll see.
@cmcollins001 - I'll look into your suggestion, I've tried to use the GV app with the tablet number, but the calling ability with the tab sim doesn't allow incoming or outgoing calls. I've got free incoming calls with skype, using a ring2skype phone number that uses voip to skype.
Personal note, for everyone. I'm cancelling the use of T-mobile, for what it's worth. The customer service is the worst I have ever received. I'm not even 30 days past due and they suspend my service??? Yeah, I was 17 days past the due date, they suspended service. This happened two months in a row. My order for a tab dashmount kit, came to me INCOMPLETE. Samsung box, that was put into the box tmobile sent me, was damaged, and the cradle for the kit was no where to be found. The box was sealed and no apparent damage at all. Looked for tape that ight have been re-applied, NOPE. So tmobile shipping, genius he/she IS NOT, put the samsung box as it was, into the box from tmobile for shipping and sent it out. You'd think that the monkey, I mean employee, would have noticed the box was damaged, as it was obvious! NOPE< just put it in there and taped it up. Its been 1 month 5 days. I still haven't recieved the replacement order, and I've spoke with them 4 times, finally this past friday, I confirmed my account status of "Not a Valuable Customer AT ALL" when they said, "Sir, your order is on back order".........as well as they expect me to pay for the incomplete order, as part of my past due bill........Yeah, tmobile, you can take my account and stick it in the "I'm never going to pay my bill if you're not going to fulfill my order". It's obvious, JD Powers is calling Tmobile employees and that's how they are getting the 4 years of customer service awards, cause my satisfaction has felt like, "sir, it's your money we want, not your acceptance". Good thing is my voice and personal opinion doesn't go unnoticed, when someone asks me about phone and service, I let them know NOT [email protected]

Bump. Please help.
Personal edit and great help from sserpentine

Thanks for at least taking a moment to read.
Anyway, I guess I've learned my lesson, I wont come back here, I'll just leave my next tablet alone and use it as it was meant to be used. Sorry no one gave any help here, I feel I gave alot of good information toward someone/anyone giving me a solution

Sir, you got lots of help from here, quick too. If something is broken, no amount of advice from us will repair it. Good luck with the next tab.
I have done a large amount of reading and learning.
I am all better now and I owe it all to you. THANK YOU To sserpentine.
My tablet is running great with Overcome!
Thanks again, and also, if you know of a better ROM for my tablet, I'm all ears.

Hello everyone,
I've noticed starting last week my G4 will have a old android style pop-up stating "Device must restart to allow service to continue. Device will restart in ## seconds." It has reboot and later as the options, and will continue to pop-up if i hit later and will even do this when the screen is locked randomly. It is starting to become more often.
I have:
Rebooted phone
checked for apps at cause
Wiped phone with factory reset
updated PRL and other update options (no updates available)
Seems some people here had the same issue on their S5's but with no answer to what was causing it fully

Thanks!
Government monitoring you?
I had one pop-up yesterday, we'll see what happens today. If it does I'll post back here. Thanks for the reply back!
Just had one pop-up, requiring me to restart or click later. I'm starting to get frustrated at this. My wife and my co-worker have the same phones, and they have not received this message at all before.

Are you using WIFI Calling?

It can happen on both WiFi and Cell network. I do use WiFi calling as my work area is prone to dead signal areas for any carrier. It is completely random as I can be at home on WiFi calling or at the mall on Cellular and it reboot itself due to that message.

Hi Jessooca, I sent you a PM
I am having this issue now o.k. two phones.
Our problem started after rooting. I followed @rirozizo's video guide on the cubes post. I installed "root checker" that was mentioned on that video as well.
Now every few hours I have the pop up. One time, I was able to press the square key to bring up the multi window/tab view and the name of the tan with the restart message was called Network System Provider.
The window appears, as described in the OP, and states Device must restart. Device will restart in XX seconds.
I did just try clearing the cache for Network System Provider. Hopefully that helps....
Any and all help anyone can offer will be appreciated.
Thank you

I bet this is because of a bad SIM card or the pins are disconnecting then reconnecting to the SIM card resulting this reboot popup.
Check the tray, clean it up, and maybe even try a different SIM Card and see if that works.
BTW yes i got mentioned here so i want to help

Thank you so much.
I will check the SIM, although, I feel pretty confident that it's something else. My reasoning is that it's happening to both our phones and started within hours of being rooted ( I rooted them within minutes of eachother). The only new app installed after rooting on either phone was root checker. The months prior had no issue at all, and Now both are having the same issue at once...unless both SIM card trays got dirty at the same time which would be very coincidental.
I well try your suggestion though. Thank you.

Now i don't know anything about Sprint and "american services" but did you flash the right system image specifically for your device? maybe some Sprint service is lost and it's just bugging out? just a blind guess here

I appreciate your guesses! I am stumped myself so I will gladly accept any and all help.
I double checked to be sure, and yes I did use the correct files and commands.
The problem presents itself every few hours, so I will see if it continues now that I have cleared the cache I mentioned before.
Thank you again and thank you much for the wonderful videos
I see so many posts in this forum with odd issues and later find they are running unlocked in another country.
Are you in USA on a Sprint Network and getting this error?
I doubt it's the SIM card too.
If on Sprint network you might try ##72768# Hands Free Activate.
Be sure you are near a solid Sprint Signal and WIFI for backup.
Also I find adblocking software gives Sprint phones fits now.
OP Chiming in here, my phone has never been rooted, and is experiencing this issue still. I have flashed the TOT file and also done a recovery factory restore with no luck.
I can clean the sim card real quick and see how it goes today, I am however heading to a Sprint repair tech this weekend to have a new sim card placed in to see if it works.
Get your service code and do an RTN reset. It will wipe your internal storage so just click and drag from your G4 to a place on your desktop. If an RTN doesn't fix it, call Sprint.

I replied to your PM hopefully if you go through all those steps, it will fix your issues.... For whatever reason the issues seem to arise if you have factory reset your device, after you have rooted it; theres no proof that's the cause but in most cases, not all, this seems to be a perpetrator. ROOT that is, this issue has happened on various other devices, from 4.4.2 all the way up to a friends Nexus 6 running Android 6.0....
If it fixes your issues; I will share the steps here for anyone else.

Hi Jessooca,
I just sent you a PM as well.
Just so everyone is clear, Jessooca is amazing!
Having said that, I am both happy and sad to report that the problem may be solved ( I am not sure and will wait and see). I noticed that twice in the multi-window view brought up by pressing square (forgive me for not knowing the correct term) that the window with the restart message was titled Network System Provider.. so I googled...and then I went through my apps looking for the matching icons. I then found that the error was part of an app by "Its on." Specifically two apps matched the icon; NetworkSystemProvider with an install date of 8/1/2008 (weird?) and NetworkSystemProvider UID with a install date of 5/7/15 ( the day I took the Sprint ZV5 OTA and then rooted).
What I then did was clear the cache of both apps and then of the phone via storage. I have not noticed nay pop-ups since then so I hope that my problem is fixed.
I am also unsure what those two apps are, if they were always there, and if I can safely delete them.
Best of luck OP. I will post again right away if my problem is not resolved, and clearing the cache did nothing more than fill me with false hope!

i dont have these two apps (i'm on international version, so no carrier stuff here)
I updated to ZV6 this morning and got this message for the first time this afternoon.
"Device must restart to allow service to continue"
After doing some reading, the problem seems to be related to ItsOn.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...nt/zip-remove-itson-sprint-of7-based-t3154181
ItsOn is difficult to remove as it has service running even when the apk files are frozen or removed.
Hey all, this all started a few days ago, I had gotten into the Android beta so I could get Nougat. It was running fine for a few days, maybe a week. Then after I rebooted the phone for something, it wasn't finding my cell network. I decided now was as good a time as any to root it and see what ROMs were out there, it had been a few years and I had never rooted my Nexus 6.
I installed Pure Nexus and it was all good for a day or so, then my phone kept telling me it wasn't rooted. Not sure how that happens, but whatever, I decided to go through the steps again and root it and make sure it was all good. Ever since then it has unable to find my cell network. It sticks on the initial search for the network when I boot up my phone. I'm on T-Mobile with a Nexus 6.
In Cellular network settings it can't seem to decide if it's supposed to use GSM or CDMA, keep jumping back and forth. As such "Access Point Names" disappears then reappears. Either way, it's blank. I've even manually added an APN according to T-Mobile's website, but it disappeared once it switched back to CDMA and back.
I've taken the SIM card out, put it back in, no luck. I've wiped, I've rolled back to my nandroid backup, I even used Nexus Root Toolkit to flash stock and unroot, still not finding my cell service. Any suggestions/thoughts?

If you have access to another SIM card I would try that. If you acquire a signal with another SIM card the one you have is bad. You could even try removing and reinstalling your current SIM card to see if that helps.
Flash factory images with out a sim and do a complete boot. I had issues coming to T-Mobile from Sprint on my n6. After first boot power down and insert sim, then boot. It should auto detect the APN settings.

If that still doesn't work, you could try flashing a different radio image from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/fxz-nexus-6-recovery-flashable-fastboot-t3066052
Any luck?

Thanks everyone. I tried all of the suggestions, the first flashing without a sim, didn't work. I just wrapped up trying a new radio image, no luck there either.
Thinking it's probably just hardware, so bummed. Any other thoughts?
Thanks for checking in 31ken31.
Have ya tried and other known working sim cards on att or something to see if it finds that

Just updating this in the event someone is routed to it through Google in the future. After flashing, trying to new sims, etc. it was pretty much guaranteed to be a hardware issue. The sim card reader is just not reading the sim cards. I upgraded to an LG V20 and am in love! Thanks for everyone who tried to help.
