[Q] htc one t-mobile / ee - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

just some advice please im from the uk, just got my my htc one from t-mobile its unlocked unbranded, basically just some advice i want to root and s-off my phone is it better to use the all in one kits and if so which one is more user friendly.
and also im not keen to install custom roms just really want to flash new radios to see if i can improve signal at some locations, so can i do this when its rooted and s-off but staying on my stock firmware?
any help and advice appreciated.

there are a few methods going around about flashing radios via the recovery but you need to be unlocked and have a custom recovery to do those.

If all you want to do is flash a radio then there's no need to s-off your device, you just need to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom recovery.
Leaving s-on is safer!

Yeah it's easier but it's always a good idea to learn how to do it manually so you get a better understanding of what's going on.
There's a guide here that will help http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2265618
If you prefer an all in one kit try this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2183942&highlight=hassoon

About to get a Vodafone UK Nexus One

Hello all,
I am about to get a Vodafone Nexus One. It's secondhand so don't know anything about it. (As in AMOLED/SLCD, or anything about it)
The reason I got it is I just bricked my HTC Desire, flashing a corrupt fastboot N1 Partition table (Learnt my MD5 Lesson). Prior to that I had been rooting, s-off'ing flashing away, happy as can be. Not too much adb, but see I will learn more.
The main reason I'm getting an N1, is all my time was spent trying to get to FRG81, and stripped down froyo's. I regularly used a Cyanogen Mod ROM's. So why buy another Desire, and faff around with all the junk!
Do have a few question though:
I'm on T-mobile UK will I have any problems with that?
And does anyone have any tips for me prior to receiving it?
Please any advice a head of time is appreciated!
Cheers
You won't have any problem with it on Tmo. If you're planning on running stock for a bit, Voda have their own version, but its easy to bin it for Google's offering.
Thanks for that, am getting stuck in to the new reading.....
To root or not to su that is the question.
Well so different the N1 and Desire, but sure it will get easier.

Root it!
It's the best thing I ever did with my Nexus. It's especially superb now you don't have to unlock the bootloader...
OK, Now I'm bootloader unlocked, and SU superpermission. But can I PVT S-Off the nexus one?
No, no real need to anyway.
No. Unlocked bootloader is the same as S-OFF for any other phone, with the only caveat - you can't relock it.

Reason I ask is I am trying to install a radio .img, and need s-off. Am looking for the .zip version now.
Edit: Ok feeling quite lucky and very smug. I am now bootloader open, Superuser, running cyanogenmod (it's what I know well, will investigate others later), newest radio, and app2sd.
So nearly back to where I left my bricked desire, will start to restore my titanium/mybackup pro backup's.
Then later move on to intersectraven's havs kernel etc.
Still can't find out any more about s-off for the nexus one (As I mentioned flashing a corrupt patch for re-partitioning my desire to n1 style partitions, after already being S-Off'ed by Alpharev, is was what bricked my desire, so need help obviously ;-) ). If anyone can link me on to a page would be appreciated..
Again thanks to everyone who helps: Modaco (Again), RA-Nexus for my new grumpy care bear, Cyanogen team for an almost standardised stable exceptionable ROM, Darktremor, everyone who answers even the silliest question on XDA, and even google and HTC. Looking forward to thanking Intersectraven too.
You won't get S-OFF on a Nexus One unless it came from HTC like that. Also, you do not need S-OFF to fastboot flash your radio.
What about freehand editing apps, while using rootexplorer?

S-OFF/ROM update advice needed

I am trying to work out whether to OTA update to ICS or go S-OFF, unlock and load a custom ROM.
I'm currently running locked BL, S-ON, Stock 2.3.5 (Sense 3.0) ROM.
I have read up on downgrading HBOOT to get S-OFF via revolutionary but I got HBOOT 2.01.0001 and haven't been able to find any thread saying whether tacoexploit works. I know if I OTA upgrade to ICS, and HBOOT 2.02.0000, I will only be able to unlock BL via HTCDEV and will not able to get full S-OFF until someone comes up with a method.
I have unlocked and flashed custom recovery/ROMs/Radios etc. on ZTE Blade, ZTE Skate, Motorola Atrix and HTC Desire (damn, I love 4Ext) without any problems but still consider myself a noob because, well you know, if you don't build your own ROMs...
I still have about a year or so on the warranty and custom ROMs always seem to have some kind of problem. So I just can't make my mind up as to what would be the right move.
Please, any info, suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreciated.

you can always try run this downgrader here.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705913 i would s off now because there might not be another exploit found for a very long time. you can always install a stock rooted rom through recovery. theres a thread on the development thread. thats if you still want stock rom.

The script and tacoroot exploit still work with HBOOT 2.01.0001, so you should be good to go.

Yeah, that is my fear, it may be a long time before an exploit is found for the latest HBOOT. I also figure that there will never be an official JB ROM update from HTC for the beloved Inc S. While I have maintain my warranty for as long as I have, it does feel like the right time to fully unlock. My Inc S has never given me any trouble at all, so I'm not worried about losing the warranty. I just love the phone and want to keep it working well for as long a possible. ROM-wise, I think ARHD looks stock enough to be super stable and tweaked enough to be nice and slick.

[Q] Thinking about getting one but have just 1 question

As subject line states, I'm thinking about getting an htc one but I have a concern. I swore off htc devices b/c they can be such a ***** to open up for custom roms. For example, when I had the htc evo 4g (2012 flagship) I had to root, then install custom recovery, then obtain s-off. I'm just wondering if this device is the same. Is all u need root, then custom recovery? Or, do u need s-off too? If so, is it easy to do? If anyone could link me to a tutorial I'd be most appreciative.
Thanks!
you have to unlock your bootloader first then you can install a custom recovery and root. you dont need to S-off to get the basics

What do u mean by basics? Can I flash ANY custom rom, radios, kernels, etc? Thanks for your help.
yes most roms and kernels are flash-able with a custom recovery like TWRP - S-off i think is only for modifying things like the bootloader. i just unlocked and installed TWRP and am running CM-10.2 nightlies just fine.
radios are here

Don't know what your skillset is but PLEASE don't flash any ROM, radio or kernel that is not specifically built for the Sprint HTC ONE (M7SPR or M7WLS). Other than that, you should be good to go with a root and recovery.

HTC One Stock ROM Unbranded

Hi,
I'm looking for a completely stock HTC One ROM with no bloatware or carrier branding. I can't seem to find a good one on the forums. Could someone point me in the right direction please?
Thanks

Forum rules prevent us from making recommendations on ROMs. Just go over to the Development Section and start reading the first post of each ROM. When you find one that you like then flash it and try it out. That is the sure way to know!

if you can get s-off, then why not just use an unbranded stock rom, very easy to do once you got s-off and will come with no bloatware or branding, doesn't get anymore stock or faultless than that, plus you'll get OTA's and still beable to root it, just like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54865512&postcount=8

lol the one I linked is unbranded stock, you just need to follow those instructions and be s-off
you can do it that way for dev edition which will get you the fastest OTA's when available or for HTC Europe WWE generic unbranded:
Change cid to HTC__001 (always 8 characters)
Change MID to PN0710000 using this tool in a custom recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2535365
download this firmware, put your phone into RUU mode and don't forget to flash it twice: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23329332407574029
download this RUU and run it with your phone in fastboot USB mode: http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu_m7_...0-38r-1157-04l_release_353069_signed_2-1-exe/
either way you will need to be s-off
Quick question before I start doing this; do I HAVE TO unlock the boot loader or can I do it straight away?

you HAVE TO unlock the bootloader in order to flash or use a custom recovery so you can use the tool to change your MID, you also HAVE TO BE S-OFF.

[Q] S-off with rooted HTC One M7 - HBOOT 1.57 S-on

Hello!
I've decided I want to turn my HTC One (International version) into a Google Play edition. I've watched a bunch of videos, and went for it. Everything went fine until the step where I should get S-off. I've tried quite a few tools, but just get an error that my version is not going to get S-off.
I have seen people been able to work around using CM11, but from what I've understood, you need S-off to write anything to /boot, which is where I presume CM11 would be flashed. So, am I missing anything important? Is there a workaround if my phone has HBOOT 1.57, and not S-off already? I hope someone can help me!
TL;DR: My phone is unlocked and rooted, but I can't get S-off using any of the most popular tools. My HBOOT is version 1.57.
I hope someone smarter than me is able to help me! If you need more information, please leave a reply and I'll get all the information I'm able to.
In advance, thanks!
Kcdyb
No, you can flash cm11 with s-on. You have to have a custom recovery with which to do it, though. I don't know which tutorial you're using, but it should have a section where you flash the recovery after the bootloader is unlocked. If your bootloader is still locked, then... Are you rooted?
I'm pretty new to HTC, I just came off of samsung, and they seem straightforward and simple by comparison, but with s-off, it seems like there's more room for customization with HTC phones...
Anyway, I found that TWRP won't flash cm11, but Philz_touch will. If you're rooted, grab rashr off the play store and you can flash both of these recoveries right from your phone. I'd go with TWRP 2.6.3.0, though, since the latest didn't like my backups.
Then once those are installed, you boot into bootloader and volume down to Recovery and it'll pop up in a few seconds where you can take backups (<--DO THIS!) and flash new roms and kernels and such.

Have you tried Sunshine S-OFF, it will cost $25 but it is worth it. Once you get S-OFF you can change your CID & MID then flash the GPe RUU or ROM.
Thanks a lot for your replies!
I have actively tried figuring this out alongside reading for my exam today, and recently found and interesting option to work around S-on. My total goal is getting GPE Lollipop on my HTC, and I just now found a thread discussing using a backup from OPs phone. According to many users in the thread, they have been able to recover this backup and successfully run Lollipop with S-on. I did consider buying Sunshine, but due to finding the backup-option, I wanna try the free alternatives first. My goal is like I said running GPE, and I will most likely not install other roms on my phone.
My phone has an unlocked bootloader, custom recovery CWM v6.0.4.8, and my phone is rooted with SuperSU v2.37 at the moment. This might change some since I'm trying to recover a specific backup as my current tactic.
Your replies have definitely added to my understanding of the workarounds, and are much appreciated. If the backup-method don't work, I will try your methods!
PS: I posted in the backup-thread asking some questions. I'm posting my link here to string them both together in case someone else looks for an solution to the same problem I had.
