S4 vs HTC one memory management Grooveshark - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

this was a tough one to search for and I apologize if this has been asked.
I tried an S4 and determined the beautiful screen consumed a bit too much battery, and the speaker was horrible... two features that I use a lot.
however, one thing I learned very quickly that I attributed to the latest android build was that a song played through chrome DIDNT interrupt the playing track (youtube was still interrupted). however with HTC One it is interrupted and this is quite frustrating esp whe I really enjoy soundcloud and grooveshark d their epic mobile sites for listening to music not available elsewhere.
perhaps theres an easy fix I hope so!
I have been attempting a root but have been thwarted by a strange driver issue, potentially a conflict of the S4 drivers I had ... and will next try a dif PC for the fastboot commands.

I AM running trickdroid 7.5 (4.2.2) and soundcloud works fine even if I navigate away from chrome

I use soundcloud a lot, but use their app instead. No problems using that.
Sorry I can't comment on much else.

good call for soundcloud app. however a long car ride has given me the opportunity to FIX this begrudging issue ... and its called dolphin browser. hope this helps others. still playin now and Im typing this; was not possible before even on chrome HTC vs chrome S4 (which worked)
thanks guys!

left this tab open, saw I didnt clarify.. interrupt a grooveshark tab *while multitasking. otherwise grooveshark etc play but if you get a text or leave the tab at all, its over, and the music stops. so that was the issue

[Q] What lag?

I've been reading all over these forums about a lagfix that is available, but I can't figure out why I need it. My Captivate seems incredibly fast in everything it does, including reading files off of very slow cards. Is there a way I can see this supposed lag manifest itself?
Run a crapload of apps on the phone. and then see if it comes up. You can even try to install more than 50 apps and see if it comes up. Not sure why you would wanna do this though
Tried that. I started up 22 different apps, one of which was Google Earth, then opened up a HD video to play. Not so much as a hiccup. And I only have a class 2 SD card.
I guess I should be glad that I have no discernible lag to fix.
There are a couple situations I have seen like adding things to the home screen and wakeup lag. Other than that the problem sneaks up during quadrant benchmarks causing the phone to hang really bad. The lag fix works but isn't gonna make it faster in every day situations other than the one or two places it acts up.

Ohh I got it! Try to install more than 5 small apps at a time from the market. It always just hangs while they get installed
Sent from my phone so excuse the spelling errors
i barely noticed it too.. but I installed lagfix anyway lol .. as you keep using your phone more.. after you use the fix.. and revert back.. you somewhat notice differences in speed.. maybe it's just all in my head though

Playing on HDMI cable causes uber lagg

Hey, first I want to let you know the wonderful news that XBMC is available for android (at it is sweet). But I've noticed that when I hook up my USB to HDMI cable to my phone, the display screen gets lag. Plays fine on the phone, but the display on the screen is pretty bad. I'm running the latest holics and tried playing with CPU speeds, still no fix. If anyone knows what to do to get the lag to go away on the big screen, it would be helpful.

This is the first I am hearing of XMBC. Did a few quick Google searches to get some basic info and it sounds awesome, but I'm still left a little confused. If you have the time to walk me through how to set up some of this stuff, I would really appreciate it!

[Q] Stuttering audio?

Hey guys, I searched and didn't see anything on this -- even Google did not turn up any results. I saw on the HTC One X sometimes there would be audio stutter/skips with the Beats EQ on. Sometimes when I'm playing music the audio will just glitch and stutter for no apparent reason. It is random. Has anyone else experienced this? It happened with the stock ROM as well as with ARHD7.

I am having this problem with the HTC One, streaming via bluetooth. I have raised the problem with HTC tech and waiting for a response.
I'm finding it hard to believe no one else has this problem. If it's a hardware issue I fully expect HTC to replace my unit. I will even take a recording of the stutter if necessary.
My audio will make weird noise in certain tracks and bass tones out of no where with beats on or off

I had this with my HTC One and it has been reported that it is a wifi issue. Turn it of (wifi) and it should work OK, mine does. It is a pain to keep switching wifi of and on so I found an app called A2DP volume in the play store that does it automatically.

Bumping to see if anyone else has this...
I am having this issue only when stream over BT.

Faulty sdcard possibly or your files are corrupt. Have you done an MP3 check on them?

I'm also experiencing this. Except mine skips/stutters even with beats off.
Running ARHD8.0 stock kernel w/purexaudio. I'm not sure which version of purexaudio the ARHD installed, but I went ahead and installed the most current version (v4.0) to see if it helps. So far no skipping, but I haven't tested that long yet..
There is a known issue that if you are using Adblock or a similar piece of software which modifies the hosts file that Pandora will stutter. Are you using an actual file, or are you using a buffered service that could be having an issue because of this?

It happens in the regular music player too; however I reinstalled ARHD8.1 and am not selecting adaway hosts files. I'll report back on the issue.. Thanks for the tip!
I am not using AdAway, and it happens in Play Music over the headphone jack. Haven't tested it with Bluetooth. I plan on installing TrickDroid sometime soon; I will definitely update this thread when I do and see if it still happens. Curiously, it's been happening less lately. Only once or twice a day.

So I reflashed ARHD8.1 without adblock and Pandora is no longer horribly stuttering. However it still has occasional stutters in both Pandora and Google Music. Still not sure what's causing it.

I reflashed without PureXAudio and the occasional skips/stutters still happens. Maybe once every couple minutes, really annoying considering this happened on my Note 2 also, which is why I bought the HTC One. I initially thought it might be a rogue app, but I don't have anything that could be causing it besides maybe groove IP disconnecting/reconnecting, or tasker. However I disabled both apps and the stutters still happen..

In terms of Bluetooth, the largest thing that could change in the near future would be if we get an official 4.2+ or the rumored 4.3 release, as the BT stack is recoded in that code base. This has the potential to change the game, but really considering your issue still seems to be isolated to your devices and not everyone's though, I've gotta think we're overlooking something. The further clue that you are saying this happened on your Note 2 as well also makes me wonder what else is happening.
Is this stuttering possibly during PBAP, MAP or some other profile saturating the connection with its own traffic? Is this on all BT devices that you've tested against or are we dealing with a dodgy car kit/speaker instead of a phone difficulty?

I dont use blue tooth, this is strictly wired 3.5mm connections. I don't have any uncommon apps besides tasker/secure settings/busybox/grooveip/xposed installer that were on both my note 2 and htc one. The only apps that have SU access are secure settings, xposed installer, seeder, solid explorer, betterbattery stats, and tasker.
I was almost sure that the stutter/skips were caused by purexaudio, but I guess not since I removed it.
I had this as well, does it sound like the stuff in this thread?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2269581
I personally had it fixed when I flashed CM 10.1 nightlies, so I'm guessing it's a software issue, more specifically maybe even androidHD

It sounds similar, sometimes the audio would cut out entirely for a third of a second, but it was not happening nearly as frequent as yours. Mine only happened once every couple minutes. Also I have since flashed bulletproof 1.9 kernel with purexaudio 4.0 and the problem seems to have gone away. However, more testing needs to be done..
I'm thinking it has something to do with CPU usage, like it running a process in the background that disrupts the audio output. But I don't know if anything can be done about that.

Possibly defective nook?

Greetings all,
Long time lurker here. Having some issues with my 16gb nook hd + that I figured I would discuss with the experts.
Here or some of the troubles I've encountered
- Battery Randomly dropping to one percent
- After entering correct pin, screen unlocks but then automatically locks again
- Music automatically plays very briefly after plugging in heaphones (very brief i.e. 1-2 seconds)
- Once with the carbon rom everything was going fine then randomly went to infinite boot loop.
Obviously you would think some of these would be attributed to the fact that I am using custom rooms, but these issues persist with every custom rom available, and battery problem persists with stock rom.
What would you folks recommend? are there and easy fixes you guy may have that I didn't happen to see in the forums? I'd really love to not have to RMA my nook, especially around the holidays (the only chance I get to just enjoy media dedicatedly. Is the RMA process been a pai nin the A for you guys here? Im really just looking for any advice you guys have to offer.
Thank you in advance for everything, and thank you for all the tips and help I have already enjoyed thanks to this wonderful site.
Another error I have- sometimes If I leave a music player app on in the background (not playing music) and the device goes to sleep, when I try to unlock my phone it unlocke then quickly (for less than a second) shows the music play than goes right back to sleep. this happens no matter how many times I unlock and forces me to reboot my phone. this has happened with multiple firmware, dbpower amp and the walkman app.
Any advice would really be helpful guys. want to know if I should return this. I love the screen and form factor, love the price, and the community has been grat so far but if this is what I have to look forward to with all the hardware maybe i should look elsewhere?

Most people who have this unlocking problem have cases that have magnets in them to put it to sleep when the case closes. The solution is to open the cover twice before you use the unlock.

Music playback choppy with 320KB/s music

I have searched some forums but so far none have been able to answer my problem. It seems that whenever I play music in the car with the screen locked that the my phone plays back with a bit of a studder. I found one post that suggested wiping the dalvik and cache might help, but I haven't had much luck. I've tried multiple Mixzing, Poweramp, Google Music, Fusion and the stock player without much luck. Any help would be appreciated!

ive had the same thing, its actualy a hardware problem of the car...
aka i use an aux cord, and the cord was brand new, and it was the jack and i thought it was the phone...nope
---------- Post added at 04:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:25 AM ----------
so i would make sure
1. That the music playback is NOT choppy when played back on other devices using the same car and same cord or usb or what ever.
2. Make sure that play back is normal through headphones or speakers
If both of the above are true, only then can you assume its a software issue because that means that its the phones problem and not an auxilary cod jack problem or something like that.
IF number 1 is false, and it still is choppy no matter the device, THEN go through the jack that you are plugging your phone in and make sure its clean and isnt bent or something.
Basically make sure its not hardware first.

Thanks for the reply! After a lot of troubleshooting, I discovered that a task killer app was installed on my phone. I think I must have installed it when I first got an android phone not knowing the repercussions and its just stuck with me. Nevertheless deleting the task killer app fixed the problem.
To non HTC Myst owners
What I learned was if you can verify that it is not a hardware issue make super sure you do not have a task killer installed because those will make for a bad day when it comes to playing music. Specifically when playing music when the screen is locked.

I don't know if it holds true for every phone, ROM, and kernel, but it might be the first place people troubleshoot after it can no longer be a hardware issue. I also suppose not every task killer is as villainous as others. From what I read on forums most people came to the conclusion that task killers actually do more harm than good because Android uses RAM and tasks very similarly to Linux. Linux loads programs onto RAM in order to enhance performance as opposed to leaving large parts of RAM unused. Killing these tasks can hurt phone performance, which is why my music, and particularly high quality music, was choppy.
