[Q] HTC One Slow Wireless File Transfer - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have checked forums on XDA and on the web but I have not found a solution to my issue. I have noticed that my HTC One is having trouble downloading files on my LAN from my home server. I have turned off the cell radio so it is only using my wireless router, but do not see a difference. When I do the same download on my wife's Galaxy Nexus or my daughter's Pantech Discover, I am able to download files at around 7 Mb/s. However on the HTC One, it begins to download at around 25 KB/s and works it way to 0 KB/s in about 20 secs then stops downloading. The downloading bar does not go away, it is stays up and continues to try to download but nothing happens.
I have tried using both ES File Explorer and ASTRO File Manager and they both give me the same results. Also, I have noticed when I download files from the web it starts out at around 5 Mb/s but then begins get slower and slower to about 300 KB/s.
Has anyone else noticed an issue with downloading files? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Has anyone else been able to to test this on their phone? Am I the only one with this issue? I am wondering if I have a bad phone...

Browser download speeds: Slow?

It seems like downloading files through the Android browser is crazy slow, in comparison to downloading the same file on my pc, using the same wifi connection.
Right now I'm downloading the latest nightly build of CM6, which is about 64Mb.
On my phone it's been going for about 8 minutes already, and it's at about 90%.
On my pc, it downloaded at about 500KB/sec, so about 2 minutes.
What's the deal?

Downloading woes

After searching high and low for a solution to my dilemma i finally decided to ask everyone on here about my downloading problem. I cant seem to download anything from multiupload and similar sites. Ive tried both wifi and 3g, with every browser on the market. I get a 'download complete' notification, but end up with a tiny file a fraction of the size of the actual file. It happens even wih files less than 1mb. Not sure if this is rom related, ( im on overcome). just thought id put it out there for anyone who might have had the same problem and was able to fix it.
I am able to download apps from the market just fine. Directly downloading attachments from threads works from time to time but i still get the premature 'download complete' here and there.
TIA to anyone who can help.

Try download buddy on the market.
Hit thanks if I have helped.

Nope. I get the same thing. Download buddy just says download complete and i end up with the a fraction of the file. Thanks for the suggestion though.

I have the same problem with my LTE Galaxy S5 G900F !! Speed is about 40-45 KB/S !! while my Nokia n95 or Samsung GT s6312 Speed
was about 100 KB/s ! I'm so confused too ! I understand you... For such a modern smartphone, it's too weird !
Were having the same problem. Im trying to transfer a 40mb. apk file to my wife's S5 from my S5 via Bluetooth and its taking 8 mins to transfer
I think WiFi direct is faster, maybe give it a try?

Try the Superbeam app in the playstore. It uses wi-fi direct and I've gotten transfer speeds > 40MBs. I think you need the paid version ($1.99) to transfer to pc.

use the share it app

Using Android File Transfer on OSX

anyone else having trouble transferring files via AFT? after a minute or so, it'll say that I need to unlock my phone even though it's not. even while actively fiddling with it during file transfers, i get the same error message. makes it a hassle when transferring directories at a time for music since I have to unplug and plug back in again to get AFT working.
this happening to anyone else?

I gave up on AFT a long time ago, was always very unreliable with all devices I have used.
I suggest you take a look at airdroid. With 802.11ac Wifi I'm seeing 20MiB/s transfers all wireless while moving files from the browser (chrome) to the Nexus 6 all without having to plug anything anywhere. Convenient and fast.
I'm having no issue with AFT on the latest Yosemite OS.. I just got my Nexus 6 today and transfer all my stuff twice already. Because of the new update the phone had today. And I don't like updating on top of the old one. I like a fresh OS at every android release ?

It freezes up my MBP constantly. Incredibly frustrating utility.

Have OS X 10.9.5 and Nexus 6. But AFT shows "No Android device found" when connecting phone and Mac
for me on nexus 4 (croma 6.0.0.1) and osx 10.10.5 everything is well... but AFT don't see every directory and file!
if i use it under TWRP AFT see every single file!!??
why!?

Slow Wireless LAN Transfer Speed

I'm getting slow LAN transfer speeds on my Note 8 compared to my Note 4. I first noticed it when I would stream videos from my PC. The video would pause like it was buffering many times during playback. I figured it was just some setting in MX Player. After trying different players and still getting the same thing, I tried my Note 4 and it worked great like it always has.
So I transferred a file from my PC with Solid Explorer to each phone to compare the speeds. After 2 minutes of transfer I cancelled it and the average speed on my Note 4 was 1.72 MB/s and on the Note 8 it was 480 KB/s.
Anybody else have this problem? Hopefully it will get fixed in the next update.
I just saw the update after I posted, so I installed it and it's a little better, about 800 KB/s.
I would make sure my router is set to auto update and on the latest FW.
The thing is it only does it on the new phone and not the old one. Also, I have two routers because my house is fairly big and it does it on both of them.
Couple years ago my wifi stopped working on just updated phone and I couldn't fix it until I logged on to router and found out the factory setting was not to update. Updated router and never had problem again. Easy thing to check and eliminate and I haven't seen any widely reported problems, mine works fine, so it has to be something specific to you: router, wrong settings, some dodgy software you installed or faulty phone. personally I would start with trying to login on different wifi (Mcdonald??) to eliminate phone, I would bet on your router and it doesn't matter it works with other devices, new phone will have updated software, may have issue with older router software.
The internet speed is fine, it's just when transferring files locally when it does it - desktop to phone. Also, firmware is up to date.
I found this thread:
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5.../GS8QA/highlight/false/page/1/thread-id/16278
Seems to be a common problem with newer Samsung phones. Samsung has known about it for 5 months and hasn't done anything about it.
Might have to return the phone if I can't even stream an HD movie from my PC.
Same problem here 900-1000kbps. Can't be router cause my note 4 does 9-10mbps. Had the same issues with the note 7 but worse(300-400kbps)
