I have the same problem with my LTE Galaxy S5 G900F !! Speed is about 40-45 KB/S !! while my Nokia n95 or Samsung GT s6312 Speed
was about 100 KB/s ! I'm so confused too ! I understand you... For such a modern smartphone, it's too weird !
Were having the same problem. Im trying to transfer a 40mb. apk file to my wife's S5 from my S5 via Bluetooth and its taking 8 mins to transfer
I think WiFi direct is faster, maybe give it a try?

Try the Superbeam app in the playstore. It uses wi-fi direct and I've gotten transfer speeds > 40MBs. I think you need the paid version ($1.99) to transfer to pc.
Sent from my SM-P600 using xda app-developers app
use the share it app
it is free and better
transfer to pc or to a friend

From pc to mobile i get 60-80kb. Originally it starts out at around 120kb but always falls down to the 60-80 range and stays there. Anyone get better results? Or ways to improve speeds?
Maybe a silly question but how do you measure your transfer speed.
I can do an average speed by noting the time it took to transfer a large file but how to tell how much it was in the beginning and subsequently after.
Does anyone know of a mobile compatible speed test site / software that can test upload speeds as well as download speeds? It seems T-mobile UK has eneable HSUPA and increased HSDPA to 7.2mbit recently (my 3g icon now says H constantly )
I know the Kaiser aint supposed to support HSUPA but it would be nice to test it.
Thanks.
well you could try the same flash based speed-tests used for PC's

Thanks. The 1st link crashed Opera, and the second brought my phone to its knees!
I did find this though that seems to work ;
http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/
Opera 9.5 w/ Flash 7 will run speedtest.net correctly. I got 167k down, 67k up w/ 999 ms ping to some random isp around indiana ( I live in Bloomington, IN ) using Edge.
remember that O9.5+flash is sloooow, so you have to be patient for the flash program to recognize your test point and stuff.
Check out BBR (broadband reports ) they have a mobile speed test there.
I have used this link. Give it a try.
http://www.mobilespeedtest.com/bandwidthmeter/meter.php
http://text.dslreports.com/mspeed
I just use the above URL and the results for 3 tests were:
In the UK on Orange, using 1Mb file size, I got:
534kb/sec with 17.644 sec download
709kb/sec with 12.008 sec download
932kb/sec with 9.295 sec download
773kb/sec with 11.084 sec download
583kb/sec with 14.542 sec download
The last three were spread over a 90 minute period so the test, whilst useful as a benchmark, isn't consistant.

Thanks. These sites only test download speeds, I wanted to test upload too. The DSLReports site seems closest to doing this with its beta Iphone speed test but it seems to have problems at the moment, failing with a 0ms warning.
From the tests I have ran so far, I am getting downloads around 1mbit/s, nowhere near the 7.2mbit/s.
dslreports.com using the iphone speed test (or full mobile browser) my highest result was 1350kbs. this is a nice program to have bookmarked so you can test whenever you want. im not sure if it matters, but you may also want to deleate cookies and whatnot to ensure a fresh result
do what I do and tether your phone to your computer and run a speedtest that way. It may not be 100% accurate but you can get a good idea what your speeds are like.

This post is way old but I wanted to give my input.
Try TestMy Mobile. Works well with most android and iphones, right in your default web browser. Join and your results are permanently logged for you... so you can track your connection over time. Just search google for "testmy" and you'll find it. I don't have enough posts to post a link... I've been a member here for nearly a year and I haven't posted enough, sorry guys -- maybe a mod can add the link later
That site worked for me, afraid that I can't share links either, but here is the site I used...
hxxp://testmy.net/mobile
In case you're interested, I got an upload speed of 608Kbps, or 76KBps, on an O2 HSDPA connection.
Geekaphone Mobile Speedtest
We've just launched a new mobile speedtest, the myTouch 4G on T-Mobile is currently top of the pack... compare your phone!

I have checked forums on XDA and on the web but I have not found a solution to my issue. I have noticed that my HTC One is having trouble downloading files on my LAN from my home server. I have turned off the cell radio so it is only using my wireless router, but do not see a difference. When I do the same download on my wife's Galaxy Nexus or my daughter's Pantech Discover, I am able to download files at around 7 Mb/s. However on the HTC One, it begins to download at around 25 KB/s and works it way to 0 KB/s in about 20 secs then stops downloading. The downloading bar does not go away, it is stays up and continues to try to download but nothing happens.
I have tried using both ES File Explorer and ASTRO File Manager and they both give me the same results. Also, I have noticed when I download files from the web it starts out at around 5 Mb/s but then begins get slower and slower to about 300 KB/s.
Has anyone else noticed an issue with downloading files? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Has anyone else been able to to test this on their phone? Am I the only one with this issue? I am wondering if I have a bad phone...
I am having a very frustrating problem with my tethering. For some reason my phone is picking up on my tethering partially. I have used up my data quota for the month, however I am rooted. I have tryed CM12, CM13, Rooted Stock, and a few other Roms. I can directly test to see if it is fully hidden from detection, when I go to speedof.me I am getting about 100-200 kbps (And yes that is kilabit and not byte). My Playstation 4 is recording around 150kbps but many sites load very fast with a few of them as an exception. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can fully hide my tethering usage from T-Mobile? Obviously if I go on Speedtest.net I get flawless speeds because T-Mobile allows speedtest.net without using data.
Thanks!

Use an app called Wi-Fi Tether Router from the play store. It's a paid app, but it is worth it and I have used it on multiple devices.
as far as i know, you cant hide the tethering from tmobile as of android 6.0.1(i could be wrong though). anyways, tmobile gives you tethering for free. unlimited tether on all plans except the unlimited high speed data plan, which they give you 5gb.

Speedtest.net is allowed through T-Mobile, meaning you can do as many speed tests as you like without it going towards your data.

Sounds to me like an over-quota rate limit, not a tether-detect.

Why do you think that would have any impact on something done on the NETWORK side?

"kila" is NOT an SI prefix. You probably mean "kilo", meaning 10^3.

It doesn't necessarily take a huge throughput for a webpage to load fast. Most of page load speed is related to LATENCY, which isn't impacted by a rate limit. What I mean by that, is if a server replies in 10 ms (milliseconds), it doesn't matter if your throughput is 5 kbps or 5 Gbps, it still replies in 10 ms.
On top of that, throttling isn't always implemented in a manner that you would anticipate. For instance, if the pipe can run 25 Mbps, they might feed you 10 KB at 25 Mbps, then pause, then feed you another 10 KB at 25 Mbps. If the page you are loading fits in under 10 KB, then it loads at full speed, but if it is 100 KB, then it takes 10 cycles and you experience the slowdown.

To start with, you would need to prove that the issue you are experiencing is actually a function of tethering being detected. Pick a big file on a known fast server, and download it using wget, ON YOUR PHONE. busybox comes with an implementation of wget that you can use. So something like; cd /sdcard; busybox wget http://server.net/some_big_file.iso and see what wget reports as your speed. Then do the same test TETHERED from a different machine, and compare the results.
Sounds to me like an over-quota rate limit, not a tether-detect.
-I have unlimited fast LTE Data through T-Mobile, the problem is that T-Mobile is recongnizing my PS4 downloading as tethering but not me downloading multi gigs worth of files through my computer.
Why do you think that would have any impact on something done on the NETWORK side?
-CM12 is 5.1 and not 6.0 and they all are completely custom roms and should have no tethering detection whatsoever.
"kila" is NOT an SI prefix. You probably mean "kilo", meaning 10^3.
-Yes I do, My mistake. Was typing on my phone.

-You saying that it really doesn't matter what the download speed is? Because the last I checked the average web page is around 2MB, which would make a drastic difference when you are on a connection that only provides 150kbps speeds. That would mean that it would take 136 seconds to load a "normal" webpage, compared to instantly on a 25mbps connection. Yes there can be slowdowns due to how the server sends you the data, but I can sure tell what is normal connection speeds and what is not. 150kbps is 2G speeds and therefore that would lead me to believe that T-Mobile is detecting certain sites as tethering and giving it 2G speeds.

-I can run a speedtest on my phone through speedof.me and get 40Mbps and when I run it on my PC I get 150kbps. Sounds like T-Mobile is slowing my tethering down big time.

Yes. Just downloaded Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool on my phone from this address http://devbuilds.kaspersky-labs.com/devbuilds/KVRT/latest/full/KVRT.exe and then tried the same thing on my PC and I get 13KB per second where as my phone got 4MB per second.
Shortcut maker was used when I was with sprint to be able to hide hotspot usage as regular phone data, doesn’t seem to work on Verizon. Has anyone been able to mask there hotspot data usage count against regular data?
Just changed to the carrier unlocked version which does not check for tethering subscription: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/rd-carrier-switch-root-snapdragon-t3597473
Throttling down a Verizon hotspot fix
Not sure if anybody else has encountered the sudden throttle down to 600 600 kilobytes after 15 gigs of your hotspot use speed unlimited data got me pretty upset anyways if anybody found a way to fix it that would be great. Better use below though
And the meantime I was able to find a fix for it that gives me the ability to use the hotspot and Verizon does not recognize it as being a hotspot. It requires a rooted phone and an application that has been out for at least 7 years that you have to purchase one time. And also another secret for it. When my data runs with a high spot normally I would get 30 to60 megabytes per second Now using this method I'm able to get to still 15 megabytes per second which allows me to download games and stream whenever I want to. Reply if you have questions because I really don't want the big V to figure out and take care of it. The cool thing about it is that when you go through your data usage it shows up as being data off your phone not the hotspot so I've already used up this month I might hotspot over 200 GB just to mess around and make sure it's working and I was supposed to rub it in to Verizon for screwing my unlimited package.
I don't know if this will work, but what if you clone the mac address of the device(s) connected to the hotspot to that of the phone?

And the meantime I was able to find a fix for it that gives me the ability to use the hotspot and Verizon does not recognize it as being a hotspot. It requires a rooted phone and an application that has been out for at least 7 years that you have to purchase one time. And also another secret for it. When my data runs with a high spot normally I would get 30 to60 megabytes per second Now using this method I'm able to get to still 15 megabytes per second which allows me to download games and stream whenever I want to. Reply if you have questions because I really don't want the big V to figure out and take care of it. The cool thing about it is that when you go through your data usage it shows up as being data off your phone not the hotspot so I've already used up this month I might hotspot over 200 GB just to mess around and make sure it's working and I was supposed to rub it in to Verizon for screwing my unlimited package.[emoji23]
