so I just updated my phone to jelly bean Indian firmware. I wanted to check the google offline typing feature but couldn't find the option to download offline speech files which is generally shown in Google voice typing settings. so is it not available entirely for our device or is there any other way? also I've updated the google search to latest version as suggested in some tutorials but couldn't find the option

Updated from cm9 to cm10 yday, and to the latest build of [ALPHA][ROM][4.1.1] ( 29/7) but the offline voice typing still doesn't work..says it can't reach google servers.. I've tried searching other threads, but no solutions yet.. i tried copying the srec folder from the JB zip to /system/usr manually; also tried the switching the aeroplane mode as well..no results. pfa
The same here

Did you login to google at least one time?
Hey
Its probably not ready yet...btw which rom?
Cheers
If my post helped, don't mind hitting the Thanks Button...
I am on cm10 unofficial by derteufel. For me offline voice typing is working in English only. If you want to test it be sure not to use Google now as it always requires an internet connection. Also only en-us as system language and voice typing language will work. I am wondering how to get other languages. On the galaxy nexus you get a button to download. On the I9000 and as well on the nexus s the button is missing. Does anybody know how to extract language file for offline voice typing form the galaxy nexus?

has anyone tried to set nexus in the build.prop ?
I'm not able to download english voice recognizer neither
Hey
Offline voice typing works only with ENGLISH US no other language...
^Indeed; its a English-US only feature as of now. Also make sure that you flashed the right gapps package for your ROM - some of the earlier roms + gapps packages didn't exactly get the job done because space on System was low, so not all files could be copied.
Up!
Can't find a solution!
Flashed Cm10 20120919 with last GappsJB and still can't find it!
so maybe im the only person who wants this but i´d REALLy like offline voice dictation on my phone.
there is an ics mod that lets you download the offline voice libraries but the you cant update to the newer versions through the playstore.
lenny_kano has explained what needs doing
For those on low end devices who don't get voice download options on JB ROMs, you need to patch out the filterPreference method in the smali for downloading language packs to always return 0. Use the latest apk as obviously none of the fixes for ICS are needed if you're running JB. Can't remember name of the smali file but grep is your friend I'm sure it has download language and pack in the name.
Edit: And yes, if you update apk from market you will need to do mod again of course. Also note none of this talk of latest apk has anything to do with ICS, so dont ask about it, i was just referring to JB users using the market version of google now.

I dont know how to do this, is anybody interested in the challenge?
Hi, I have one question about Google and Google+. How to remove the files in our custom rom before flashing the rom? Ya, we can delete it using root explorer but I love to know which apk/files contain the twos apks. Thank's.
Google+ isn't necessarily an apk in the gapps package so google+ won't be there in the custom ROMs and I'm not sure if Google Now is a thing that can be removed as it is an exclusive feature of Android 4.1+ . Not sure though. :|

He wants to disable google search, i don't see any way to do that except not flashing gapps at all which isn't desirable. I'd be glad if you can help him disable google search if possible.
If it is a TW ROM then just pull the apk's out of system/preload...

I guess it all depends on the ROM - I have two different devices, on one the Search is a system app (system/app/Velvet.apk), on other it was installed via Play market (data/app/com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox.apk).
Generally if the apk resides in zip file, it can be removed before flashing (I usually clean ROMs from all apps I don't need on my PC using WinRar), the only problem could be finding name of the apk file to remove.
Yes you're right, the name of the app is where the problem resides as I did check the frameworks folder of the ROM. It's ROM specific isn't it, and tampering with an app like google search can surely cause some unforeseen errors too. I don't see any reason why google search has become such an undesirable app for the poster!
Not sure how it works for stock-based ROMs, on my N7000 I have Slimbean, which comes without Search - it can be installed from the Market separately if someone needs it

Slimbean has gapps of its own, customised for the ROM which are available on their site. The gapps on goo.im which are prescribed by some other ROMs come with the feature of google-search.

in this case it should be enough to remove "QuickSearchBox.apk" from the zip file before flashing
This removes Google search altogether or just the search box on the home screens which cannot be gotten away from the settings options in certain ROMs?

Not sure, the search box may be a separate widget, you could check with Root App Delete (enables/disables system apps)

Hi,
Android 2.1 doesn't support the newest facebook app, and you can't really use Facebook in a webbrowser because of too old certificates in 2.1 (You will get certificate errors). Try:
1. Read much articles about rooting, flashing, moding and and and...
2. Search online for a user-friendly rooting guide for the X8
3. Root phone
4. Search for a user-friendly guide for installing ClockworkMod on your device
5. Install ClockworkMod
6. Search a stable and fast Android 2.3.7 (Gingerbread) ROM which will work on stock kernel (for example: GingerDX)
7. Install it via CWM (Read in the ROM thread how to flash it)
8. Make sure your date is right
9. Search for Facebook in Google Play
Good luck, Androthan

Hi Guys,
I recently updated my LG P970 to Android 4.0.4 (rooted) and I installed Instagram from the Google Play Store however when I try and upload an image it will allow me to crop it but when it comes to selecting the filter the image doesnt show up and when I try to exit the app freezes. I done some searching but found no direct answer. I tried installing an older version of Instagram (3.4.0) however when I try to login it just tells me to update to the latest version.
Any idea on how to fix this?
Cheers!

Hi! You did not do it correctly.
Step 1: update it to the latest instagram and login using your account.
Step 2: install the apk file of 3.4.0 version of instagram (the OB will ask you if do you want to replace the file that is alrrady install, just hit ok). After the install, thr instagram should work again.

I did that exact process... not working even. :-(
For rooted OB install latest version Instagram and logging, install Titanium backup and backup Instagram(app+data)
Now uninstall latest version and install v3.4.0 not logging go to Titanium backup and restore ONLY DATA not apk.Testing on several ROM's
For ICS and all 4 + rom's
