no, i don't think so. i have had 3 lg phones and not any has been update. the only way for update your lg phone is with roms
Well lg 2x got two upgrades (2.3 and 4.0) so maybe lg 4x should recieve the upgrade to 4.2.2

I currently own three android devices, LG optimus 4x HD, Samsung galaxy note 2 and sony xperia s. so i am browsing all three xda forums from time to time. how funny that every specific brand owners are dissatisfied with their own manufacturers by saying other brands update devices more frequently than theirs.. what they most said is: My next phone wont be "sony/LG/Samsung"!!!
The fact is: LG really update more than the rest i owned: 4 times firmware minor update + jelly bean update( i live in Netherlands). so at least LG is taking care of it. LG wont update our 4x hd forever, we will always want more and more anyway, so there is no ending...
I also want 4.2.2 or higher version without a doubt, but not desperately compare with other ppl.lets wait and see. And please stop spreading faulty information and misleading others. You should be responsible for what you said!! Lets hope we will get 4.2 or even higher, otherwise it is just a phone basically, be happy and enjoy what you have, its not so bad after all....

I have said many times before. We bought our phones with ICS software on it. Nowhere did LG say that we would get free upgrades, they are only responsible for fixing bugs. If you are 'forced' to stick with ICS then it is fine for them as the phone still does EVERYTHING you bought it to do. The problems with 'Stock' JB go to show that they created it through good-will, to give the developers something to play with and to keep us guys/gals on places like XDA happy - 95% of the people who buy the phones couldn't care less about getting an upgrade to JB as long as the phone actually makes calls, does texts etc
The arguments and *****ing on here against manufacturers is incredible. Can you imagine buying a PC And then demanding a free upgrade to Windows 8? Or buying a car and demanding a free upgrade to the newer engine type?
If you don't like the phone then change it. If you don't like the manufacter then don't buy from them again, but unless you buy a Nexus product you will always suffer from delays in releasing new versions - the manufacturers don't make money from doing that so they will focus on new products that they can make money from.

I do not entirely lean towards your viewpoint nor do I think the car analogy is apt to this discussion
If all we wanted to use our phones for was make calls and send texts,I'd agree whole heartedly nor would we have to fork out insane amounts for most flagships
In that case, why not let us make do with cheap Chinese Android clones
This phone was one of 2012`s top end phones along with the S3 and HTC One X
Even at that LG was one of the last brand names to release a JB update
To think support for a flagship is/will be ending after an update or two is extortion IMHO seeing all they have to do is find a way to port it on older flagships
Or do the phone makers expect us to buy every shiny and new gadget every 6-12 months because official updates have stopped?
I personally do not expect updates for the mid and low end phones
But if one buys a top end flagship, such a person should get treatment setting them apart
@ the creator of this thread, its wishful thing to be lusting for KLP when 4.2.2 or 4.3 is yet to drop for 4X HD
I think 4.2.2 may drop officially for 4x hd and that will be it
Most of the top end brands are pushing 2 and 3 GB memory phones out for now and KLP devices will probably have such specs
Recall the 4x HD has just 1GB ram
You might have to look at the custom ROMs you despise for KLP
Sorry

Why should you get special treatment just because you buy the 'flagship' model? You pay extra for the extra specifications, not in order to get a service contract entitling you to free upgrades - no matter what product you are buying that is the case.
Of course manufacturers expect you to buy a new shiny phone every 12 months - that's why they keep releasing them. They are in the business of making money, which they don't get from all the work involved in upgrading an old phone to a new software version.
You need to remember that we are in the minority, 95%+ of the people who buy phones don't care about upgrades, they just want something that works, and works well. Producing an upgrade almost always results in a software thart is not as stable as the original because they are, naturally, putting less effort in to creating it. I always find it surprising when someone comes on to XDA and says they don't want to put a custom ROM on their device - OK, so there are a few bits on here that aren't specifically about custom ROMs, but not much.
It would be lovely if every manufacturer gave free upgrades, but they never say they will and it certainly shouldn't be expected. Nexus devices are different as Google writes the Android software and has a business interest in ensuring they provide free and timely upgrades to show off the latest and greatest code.

If you already knew that LG is always the last one to update their devices but why are you still buying it??? Personally I am also looking forwards to the updates, but I bought this phone because it has the good hardware, nice UI and relatively cheaper price when compare to S3 and HTC One X. You would be licking your finger to get a cheaper Chinese one, but you cant due to the availability cross western world. And dont insulting the chinese manufacture here because you know nothing about it...

I do not think arguments and *****ing on here against manufacturers is incredible. your statement about demanding a free upgrade to windows 8 is just wrong, windows operating systems are supported, updated with security fixes, refinements and enhancements for many years, as android users we seem to be forgotten about within the space of a few months, I do not expect to receive KLP or any other new system after that but we are still on Jelly Bean so we should expect to the have the refinements, fixes, security updates that are currently available, yes you are correct in saying this was an ICS phone but if LG make the statement that an upgrade to Jelly Bean would happen then we should expect supoort for it and this is the reason I purchased the phone. BTW Jelly Bean was not goodwill by LG, it was to sell more phones, if you really believe these companies are that nice to their customers you are being a little naive.

I bought for the same reasons you bought yours
Relative cheap compared to the One X and S3,very good hardware too
Anyone with an above average computer knowledge knows software is still playing catch to hardware which has always evolved faster
Only now to see the greed of capitalism starring at us all with their stoppage of updates after 1 or 2 update releases
Too bad
Some Chinese names like Pipo and Onda for tablets stand out
Also names like Jiayu and Zopo are one to look out for in high end Phones
That some Chinese brand gadgets don't cut it don't mean ALL Chinese brands
Personally, I'm using a Pipo Max M9 quad core tablet and why the software could have been better written to amplify its hardware,I could not ask for a better made premium look and feel tablets without breaking my piggy bank
Below are the Antutu scores which I ran myself
(Update: could not up load the image. Don't know why but the Antutu scores was 16104 thrashing S3,Nexus 7 and 10 and been at par with the Note 2' That should increase if overclocked)

I don't think its too much if other manufacturers could follow Google's lead
After all, the Nexus products are in the top end of the tablet and smartphone food chain
Its not to much to ask for 3-4 updates for the flagship/top end gadgets
Recall asking for more led Oliver Twist out of his life of deprivation to a more structured one
Not every market follows the Western nations model of phone contracts rather you have an outright purchase
But knowing an economy like America of which 70% is based on consumer spending is the model run by many Western states,I expect them to continue their shiny and best, latest and new policy
Hopefully the top end Chinese gadgets makers can throw in the cat amongst the pigeons
But till then, its gonna be the same ol same ol

i've owned an HTC, an Huawei and now a Motorola... while atm considering to buy the p880.
It seems to me that LG is kind of more reasonable in all terms of product-strategy than maybe HTC, Samsung, or Motorola. They have a wide range of phones, but those are at the same time not like "me too" models like Samsung's, who has phones for absolutely everey demand.
And they still sell phones like the L3.
That makes me hope the p880 has a kind of long planned product cycle too and they'll release 4.3 for the p880, because it has BT4.0 hardware, which will only be supported by Android 4.3 and up. and it's still jelly bean. so perhaps it makes sense to skip 4.2 and get 4.3 instead, which also seem to get far better multi core support...
but nonetheless it's nice to have 4.1 sources released, so it's possible to finetune.

Any rumors circulating yet anywhere about an upgrade from 4.1.2? The battery life is really bad.
I've done everything I can to maximize it. (Install root, juice defender, un-install certain system apps, turn off location reporting in GMaps, keep screen brightness at 50%, etc...)
Hoping an official LG update will help out some time in the near future. I'd like to see 4.2 or 4.3 in Q4 this year. But I have no idea if that will happen or not. Phone is awesome, just really let down by battery life on JB.
Why not oppen a request for lg?

According to the danish lg site, under FAQ of the LG Optimus 2x, they say that it'll be out in june/july 2011. So that seems to be as official they have stated a release date yet
If that's real, than it's a real shame. 6 months to get GB working on their flagship device seems really lame and only shows LG inability to give the updates in a timely manner. In June Android 2.4 will be already launched.
Yeah this sucks ballzzzz
Yeah it seems to be true, but have only been posted (as far as I have checked) on the Scandinavian sites for Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
I also made this post about it (maybe in the wrong section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034970

edit:
i've just finished a livechat with italian LG support.

oh my goodness when is the cyanogen gingerbread update .........
hehe who cares? I only care about CM7
The problem is there are a lot of fixes needed even within the LG Android 2.2.2, it's not all about providing GB. The stock LG software is subpar in my oppinion and the problems signaled here and on other forums needs to be addressed by LG hopefully before June.
[email protected], CM7 would be nice but for O2X is in a far from usable state.
If LG launch the 2.3 with the know how demonstrated on 2.2... I don't see how this is a good news...
CM7 is all that mater
maybe LG is waiting for cm7, and get the idea from it
I absolutely agree with the statement "Who cares, I just want CM7".
Then again, LG having the low-level dev access that they have (drivers and whatnot), isn't much easier for them to dev the update than for us to dev CM7? Moreover, wouldn't it be much easier to port CM7 if we had an LG 2.3 ROM?
Cheers.
Shame I switched from Samsung after month of **** firmwares and now the same on lg - now I really consider apple - they know hot to build a kernel to use the hardware
google and android is as it seems incapable of delivereing a kernel for single or dual core
the always bring out new phones and none run well
the lg drives me crazy for 2 weeks - its more lame than my nexus one

I kind of like LG for the speed, is much faster than the Galaxy S no matter what kernel you had on it, but O2X has other problems like the poor audio quality in calls and still the software doesn't feel like it's the final version, more like a test one. I agree we should expect more because the super fast hardware is there. It's a reality manufacturers don't care about that, they act like sell only the hardware and after that, they wash their hands. At least Samsung continue to support the Galaxy S which will have GB within weeks and in the meantime we have to wait until summer to get our port on O2X. I would never buy Apple, they sell just boring super expensive and locked products, that are still owned by them even after they sell them to you. If you want Android without headaches, the best bet is on the Nexus Phones. But, in the end, you can't have everything I guess...
Wow, that was long... what are we talking about here?
Sounds like the email I recived from LG Sweden this monday which said their devs had started to work on 2.3...... but what...started? Hasn't 2.3 been out for a while??

LG Optimus 2x have the potential to be faster then the Nexus S, all you need is just to wait until more developers use the phone

Notice how the optimus 3d has been delayed. My thinking is that was the priority. Once launched they'd fix our problem. Its been delayed by 2/3 weeks which means our update will probably be as well.

From LG Denmark: update delayed as it was not approved but still on track to a June release. Basically "any time soon".
Sent from my LG-P990 using XDA App
I agree...
But I don't think so... They can't follow simple instructions...
Yea. They did not implement the source code the right way, they got regarding Virtual Souround. Still waiting for that... (Got a friend working at the company that makes the software)
I Guess an LG error... :-(
See here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1129486
I emailed LG customer service from 4 different countries. The two answers I got were:
1) Yes yes we are sorry for the delay and the update is coming this summer
2) No sorry there is no ETA on any update for this phone. Not even summer? No.
Their customer service have no idea on what's going on. It's ridiculous quite frankly.
Every single mobile company does this, not just LG.
Lets be thankful that a Gingerbread update is still in the works; they usually just abandon support when a new phone comes out.

True but by the time they release GB, LG will have a better fone out and then will bypass any updates for old fones.
I never understand why mobile manufactures can make new fones faster than update there software?!. I suppose its about trying to sell more units?.
I think we wont see it this year and by the time we do get the update, we will have quad core processes and better os updates to Android than GB... Its not just LG, but ALL of them that are more interested in bringing out new hardware than to fully support what they have out already. One word... MONEY.
In away, thats why I like what is happening to gaming consoles. Its no longer about bringing a new one out every 2 years (like it used to be) and more into software and developing different ideas to bring new life into gaming.
Just wish hardware manufactures were pushing as hard for there software . Thats the real problem now.

Apple is also doing a great job here.
My guess is that only a fraction of all android users cares about the OS kernels and other tweaks, as example. I was helping my Gf to get a new phone. She wanted a red one, with facebook on it. While i was dropping some easy specs like: multitouch, gb, memory, cpu etc. After a minute she replied,Thats sound cool, but DOES IT HAVE facebook... i think shes avarage phoneuser
So to be honest, why pay engineers to make software to people that doesnt care, when they can push phones to the market and actually make some profit.
I like LG.
they released this amazing piece of electronics and they opened up much more then many other brands (SonyEricsson, Samsung). So just becuause of that im running Gingerbread with oc/uv. So stop nagging, its a great phone and with cyanogen, arcee and many other developers, this has become a monster. We dont need LGs sw, android comunity makes it better.

So if your girlfriend - with her limited knowledge of technology - where to buy this phone she should just root it and throw a custom firmware on it? Do you think that is very likely and consumer like her would do that?
You DO NOT need LG's firmware but 90% of all consumers do. And there is no way you can justify LG's action by doing their work. The product as a whole is not working and just because you like to change parts of it does not excuse this fact.
Still a week and a half to go before June ends so hopefully there will not be another delay. I think last time they said it has been delayed by 3-4 weeks. I'll be happy with a bug free stock phone that just works regardless of whether it is FroYo or GB.

90% of all consumers are probably saticfied with their smartphone. The rest of us who arent can easily change it if we wants to (of course we want, becuse we can ). So all i hear is "Gimme some crap i dont want or need...
The point with my gf is, she doesnt care. No problem. She is happy. Good.
Even how good LGs firmware is or going to be, i dont want it, just because it stock..

Yes maybe 90% of all consumers are satisfied with THEIR smartphone. Do we need to point out how low LG's market share is in this segment? Do you really think that 90% of Optimus 2x users are satisfied with their phone??
The Optimus 2x freezes without being able to recover without a battery pull. That means every user expecting to receive calls or uses their phone as an alarm will be not be satisfied.
My brother bought this phone (not with my recommondation) and he - like your girlfriend - just expect it to work without going into technical details. He has missed calls and alarms already. It goes without saying that he is NOT satisfied and neither would your GF have been if she had bought this phone. Try and ask if she would be okay with missed calls and alarms.
Are saying this phone is only for the elite of 10% or less who wants to waste their freetime on installing experimental software?
Trentors is absolutely right here, 90% of the LG O2x users are ordinary users who are not satisfied with the current LG stock rom - but they are ordinary users not interested in having to do LG's work and install custom roms with everything this includes.
They have a legitimite demand on LG to provide what LG sold them - a working phone. Not a phone that reboots randomly, freeze randomly, run out of memory randomly, lags in various different situations for various different reasons (all reasons caused by poor programming from LG) - they have a legitimite demand on LG to provide updates to fix this, they have a legitimate demand that it should have been there from the beginning. They are not demanding gingerbread per say because its gingerbread, they are just demanding a properly working stock rom - it just happens that they may look to a gingerbread update as an expected way to get a working stock rom.
Herkuk, you are pissing on all these ordinary users with your statements here - I and the rest of these 90% O2x users dont care how much you want to tinker with custom roms - thats your choise, not ours - we dont care about OC abilities or all the other aspects you feel so much for in custom roms - we just want LG to provide what we paied for - namely a stock rom working the way its supposed to work. Plain and simple.
I do not accept the trend where manufacturers are allowed to release beta products or developer products as final products and then ditch any support in order to release new beta products which also do not work right - just because a group of geeks are happy just to get some new hardware to tinker with.
When I buy any other product I expect it to work - I expect my new car to drive without the wheels falling off or the brakes not working - I expect my new flatscreen TV to be able show a picture everytime I turn it on, not only every other time, and I dont expect it to randomly shutdown or get black screen whenever Im trying to watch a movie.
I dont care if you like LG or not - I dont care for fanboyisme - I demand the same from LG as I demand from any other manufacturer that want to sell me there products. Its not my job (even If I have the abilities) to do LG's work and fix their product.

Yeah. I bet your girlfriend would love my LGP990. Whenever I don't have any reception my phone needs a reboot to be able to recieve calls, or send\recieve text messages.
I actually went back to the store and got a replacement with the exact same problem. Also with different SIM.
Just been on some off my tech sites and seen the new LG being released based on the 1.2ghz Tegra 2 and it ships with Gingerbread...so then maybe the reason we are still waiting!!

My money is on 2.6.32.9. It's working well enough on the O2X with the new gingerbread leaks, and as they say - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
... though maybe in LG's case it should be - if you've spent months fixing it, don't risk breaking it again!
Gingerbread on Optimus Dual: Raffaele Cinquegrana answers.
published by LG in the Box on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at 16:31
As we announced yesterday the release of Gingerbread for Optimus Dual will be delayed due to a development that is requesting more time than expected.
We are very disappointed that they failed to meet a deadline that we set, perhaps too optimistically, and we understand your disappointment.
With this note we would like to reiterate that we are working to be able to release the update in a few weeks: at this time we can not tell you a date, and do not want to do before you have the certainty of being able to fulfill the promise.
The timing of the development are due to the desire to provide the best software possible, so we ask you a little 'patience, trust and dialogue. This page is a channel to which we are attached and we would like it to be a useful tool for you. Here we have always behaved with the utmost transparency, trying to meet everyone. In this case, unfortunately, given the scope and tone of the comments we are forced to respond to this note to you all.
We will continue to be available to you, thank you for your cooperation.

"well i gues it will be easy for me not to buy a samsung phone ever again.
motorola and intel sign on a long term agreement and medfield really kicking ARM a** at least in the few benchmarks that were published and with lower consumption according to the benchmarks.
so my next phone will be a motorola phone with intel inside it.
goodbye samsung and yours sh*tty support.
i hope many of you will do the same as me. show them the power of the customers. i hope samsung will lose all their customers to motorola!!!!!!!!!!!"

not only they don't release the drivers to help developers like onecosmic and cyanogen, they stop their support on a phone who sold millions of units world wide.
i have this phone only for a year, and 2.3 is the last version i'll get.
but maybe we need to blame google because other company also dropping their support after a year.
maybe it is time to consider microsoft and intel combination. if they are doing such a great work on pc, and intel is about to release their cpu for mobiles, that combination will kick android a** i hope. i can't believe that this is the last update i will get, i have 2.3 for months, i dont care about crappy face recognitaion in 2.3.6 i want hardware acceleration.
i am staring to hate android. open source is great, until you are not getting anymore updates maybe the middle between android open source and ios is the answer like microsoft.
microsoft bring us directx games to cell phones and i am leaving crappy android today.

fact is, Samsung is a company that is only interesed in your money, just like all other companies out there. They're not a charity organisation. They want you to buy their phones.
the SGS has gotten 2 major firmware updates. eclair to froyo and froyo to gingerbread. There's not alot of phones out there that have gotten the same luck.
Of course it would be nice to receive an ICS updates but frankly i don't care. There's already a good working unofficial ICS rom and official Gingerbread rom does it's job more than pleasant.
I would say it's your loss since samsung always make better phone with better price compare to apple made in china trash. I know the software is not too good buy you have plenty developers here that can help the phone runs better. If you want ics just used one cosmics rom.

Do tell me where I get support for my original iPhone (2g) so I can up date the thing to v4 or even v5 iOS.
At the end of the day the SGS is near 2 years old and seeing as the SGS3 is around the corner I would consider the SGS old!
Anycase there is a ICS ROM for the SGS, just used that and be happy!
onecosmic and cyanogen can not fix the camera and other minor things without the drivers from samsung and i have 2.3 almost 6 months. so no i dont consider one year of updates to be that good. you want your phone, to be updated for a year and then throwit to the garbage?.
one year of updates for a phone who sold millions world wide is not enough and because of people like you it will coninue.
i tried 20 different roms so dont try to sell me that i can try onecosmic rom. the camera and other minor things not working correctly i am on cyanogen mod and i am ont happy with the camera and the battery life, tv out is not working and other minor bugs.
edit: not that i have any bad things to say about onecosmic and cm7 developers i know it is not their fault, they dont have the drivers. so thanks to all the developers out there for their best efforts.
im on 2.3.6... why dont you flash? its smooth as ever. Im happy for what it is. Do yourself a favour and get the value pack rom

To be honest i'd be happy with a good Gingerbread (stock), I don't think it's been as good as the last Froyo 2.2.1 update, which suddenly made the phone work properly.
I think its a shame that there isn't at least a two year life span (a lot of phone contracts are 24 months) in terms of updates, but I also understand this technology is probably one of the fastest moving.

Samsung didn't design ALL components in the SGS, they have bought many from THIRD party (like audio part from Wolfson, etc. etc.). You have open source drivers for SOME devices and many of chip-makers sell Chips + Closed drivers with limited support. It's not the Samsung's fault if they don't want release drivers, Samsung use only BINARY drivers for some devices ! Blame some *****ng chip-maker firms. I used to fight a lot with Adaptec to have some source code to make working some $500 Hardware Raid card for FreeBSD some years ago, many chip-maker are VERY reluctant to give drivers code, and it's not a new story in Linux world.
Windows and Intel will make better ? Are you serious or just blind ? Why Vista was so "unstable" in his debut ? Drivers, Drivers and Drivers.. like Android. iOS ? Another joke ? Apple use ONE hardware and chip-makers are forced to give the code (or they're excluded from Apple, so they give all Apple want), iPhone is a very well sell and Apple is one of the richest firm in the world, chip-makers aren't totally stupid if they want to sell million and million of their chips.
And for your information : First ROM for SGS are build in March 2010, latest is Dec 2011, what a poor support..
I can see Samsung absolutely ****ting themselves reading the op. Dumb thread.

This is, IMHO, the main Android drawback.
Android is not really "open". It's a marketing hype.
Producers like Samsung make heavy "modifications" to their phones and do not relase their drivers.
We're lucky that SGS has an hardware similar to the Nexus S, otherwise I doubt we could have a stable ICS porting for our phone.
My next phone, if I'll chose again Android, will be a Google Experience One.
Bye.
I was reading in news about LG's new low end phone L40 which is going to be launched with kitkat version of android . Here is spec of L40 phone
the L40 has a 1.2 Ghz dual-core processor a smaller screen at 3.5-inches. It also has 4GB of internal storage, but RAM is lesser than the other two(L series phone) at 512 MB. The camera is only a 3-megapixel unit, while the battery size will vary according to markets. The two battery sizes are 1,700mAh and 1,540mAh.
And they are neglecting our P990 which has similar specifications. They should have upgraded our phone first to kitkat which was their flagship phone first. They can not say it doesn't have hardware to support it becoz they themselves are releasing kitkat on same hardware.
BTW wats the point of releasing L40 when they had already release same spec phone few years back ?

Would you buy it? I mean, seriously dude, it's about selling. They are going to make a few millions on that L40 just because it's brand new, has kitkat and has a screen size like older iPhones. If they would update the "unupdateable" Tegra2 powered, 2-3 years old 2X, then everyone would go around buying second-hand, used 2Xs for 40$ on eBay, instead of going for their new phone.
I'd rather say Google cheated everyone, because Android updates life cycle is too short. There is a bunch of "old" phones with very capable hardware to run KitKat 4.4 and phone manufacturers won't ever update them because they just don't have any legal obligation to do so, we only have to hope their "goodwill" to release drive sources, which isn't the case for our 2x since nVidia and LG don't give a %#@!.
It's kinda sad me to see how a very capable phone gets obsolete by force due the lack of system updates, and I'm not talking only about our O2x.
This also raises other important topic, such as about electronic waste, people are wasting their 2 year phone because they are stuck in Gingerbread limbo.

+1, i think the best manufacturer were we can go is sony?? :noidea:
as i can see today sony is the only manufacturer that providing at least the sources for old phones?
I think it's worse that they wont give out all the code needed to optimize and improve the Tegra2 cores for O2X than updating it themselves.
(since they obviously aren't very good at it)

That L40 is dumb but no doubt like the L3 it will be a great kids phone.
But our P990 will not get love from LG mine is 2 years old now and it was the last of them to be seen here in New Zealand, most people will break or loose the phone by now why develop for such a small audeince, dont forget our phone only have about 384mb of ram and they do not support NEON instuction either it was meant to be over at 4.2 but TonyP and pengus got us a bit further.
Even if you look at the specs i dont think the L90 would be a good replacement for the P990 mainly because of the price im guessing it will be more than the Nexus 5 which cost now the same amount as the P990 cost me two years ago.
The only thing I guess which create prob in devlopment of official kk is tegra 2.
I do have a 4x and lg has stated that 4x wont get any any further update cause it has tegra 3 and is stuck at jellybean forever!
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
nvidia drivers are closed source and they do not update the drivers any more - and the tegra2 does not even support neon-instructions - thats why LG stopped developing
and because the phone now really is too old - i mean, a 3 year old smartphone is already a dinosaur, what other company still develops updates for such old phones?
my next phone will definitely have NO nvidia chip in it, and will be manufactured by sony because of their full open source approach.

i bought O2x to my girlfriend last summer, and that was BIG mistake, she need phone,fast,and...luckily we have our developers that make awesome stuff but still, and than i bought to my self O4x, another mistake...i think that that is last tegra device i EVER buy, this is just unforgivable, devices with a lot potential don't receive updates that they deserve ,i won't put so much blame on lg, because htc one x even won't receive kitkat, because of nvidia(nvidia shame on you,you better stay away from smartphone scene, just make people angry) ...except if K1 go open source, than maybe can be an option for buying, but after that i doubt....almost dead in my book, just sad

I do have a 4x and lg has stated that 4x wont get any any further update cause it has tegra 3 and is stuck at jellybean forever!

In a nutshell, LG + nVIDIA = terrible mistake, total disaster for android.
This is probably the worst combination in android world. LG for its extremely slow system updates schedules and nVIDIA for dropping the support for past SoCs too soon and won't even bother releasing proper documentation or blobs for futher development.

well the annoying thing is that they both are the best companies. LG and nVidia did the gratest things, LG invented the first dual-core phone (our O2X) and the first 4K TV, nvidia invented first 3D Vision on PC's and so on..... They are grate companies but when it comes to who gives less f***ks LG and nVidia are the first  and they are terrible at software developing. :crying:
Agreed, I have owned my last nvvidia phone.

The only direct responsible for this situation is nVidia. Those who were in active in this forum the last couple of years know perfectly well how it all went down and, even though it was LG the one who should push updates for the o2x, its always been nVidia that obstructed development efforts due to its notorious closed-source policy. In the end of the day, its perfectly understandable for a company to stop supporting a 3-year old device, considering the silly pace in which mobile tech evolves. Keep in mind that the o2x hasnt been the worst of examples in this area. Even though it still holds the record for longest update holdout (16 months to go from Android 2.2 to 2.3 - even mentioned in Wikipedia) it has seen 2 major OS updates: 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.0. Direct competition doesn't differ too much in this sense (SGS 2.3 to 4.0.4 to 4.1, HTC Thunderbolt 2.2 to 2.3 to 4.0) with some 'flagships' that year seeing much less (see Droid Bionic). We should really be grateful that some amazing devs happened to join this forum and dedicated lots of time and knowledge to maintain this phone and get it where it is right now. It's been some time that i dont use my o2x (passed it on to my gf - still runs great) and moved to an iP4s due to Google's frustrating incapability to write a decent low latency audio API (Apple is the undisputed king there). So even though im not planning to move back to Android before this embarrassing situation is resolved, Im absolutely convinced that ill never, ever buy an nVidia powered phone again, no matter what they come up with. So yes, once more: nVidia, F**k You!
oh no
Not only lg even htc ndivia powered device such htc one x didnt get kitkat update, they have twice power engine than o2x. I think owner of htc one x cry louder than us thanx to nvidia :crying:
This isn't the first time that LG cheats his users.
Just remember the Optimus 3D updates...

Linus Torvals complained about Nvidia because of the lack of their support for Linux and Android. I think it was a good opinion that he said what he thinks about that company. For computers, AMD and ATI have a great support for Linux, which is really nice. Too bad I noticed too late what a fault it was to buy an Nvidia pc, too.

my next phone will definitely have NO nvidia chip in it, and will be manufactured by sony because of their full open source approach.

Does that mean that you'll get a lot of more or less bug free custom ROMs for them? I'm looking forward to buy a phone which will have better custom ROM support in the future without all those nasty bugs which are related to closed source drivers and hidden hardware information like with this phine (camera bug in 4.4, bluetooth call bugs, gps fix problems caused by software). I am really tired because of all that. I never found any very smooth ROM without all those problems.

every manufacturer unfortunately has some closed source parts, some more, some less, but some can't be avoided - but yes, sony has the best open source approach and therefore the best custom rom base
