All modern smartphones will give you GPS accuracy to within 2 or 3 metres and lock within a few seconds..... It's probably not something to bother looking at when choosing which to go for.

In my experience, HTC's GPS chip seems to be alot more reliable and fast compare to samsung.
Its the same chip tho, so i don't know why its faster in my experience.

should be no differnts at all. Both use the same gps chip GLONASS whit AGPS. But for navigation use. I will perfer HTC One. Because of the front facing speakers.

in my own experience, i got the HTC One Dev edition (american) and i currently am out of the USA, GPS locks within a few minor seconds (even without internet) and is accurate like hell

Since the introduction of GLONASS, I don't feel there's much of a difference between the different devices' GPS.

My HTC One one the stock GE rom has amazing GPS accuracy and lock speed. I love it.

I don't know about sgs4 but In door accuracy is much better on my sgs3.

glonass is the russian equivaillant to GPS, you perhaps mean A-Gps that uses both GPS and cellular cells to get faster location..

Don't know about Samsungs but HTC One gets GPS location in just few seconds in most cases.

Thank you all for the help,I think I am ready now to upgrade

I've been fairly pleased with the GPS chip.

- while reading some reviews got to know that speed issue can be solved by upgrading rom (increasing chache) and all.. if yes, pls let me know how can we do that and where can find such roms
- also read that battery life is very low.. if yes, is there any solution to that. tomorrow i am planning to buy this phone. so pls guide me.
- Has it got inbuilt GPS (with navigation, voice navigation and all)? i mean, there is no need to buy separate hardware for the same.
thanks
All your answers are on here 0 use search!
But to help
It has built in GPS hardware, you supply the software (tom tom whatever(
Battery life is a couple of days on mine with latest UK stock ROM and moderate usage although you need to go through a few charge cycles to achieve the optimum
Latest ROMS are all fast - there are many to choose from
Hope this helps

If you buy your Diamond now, there is a good chance it will come with the latest ROM, in which case speed is not really an issue. If not, just register on HTC e-Club and download the latest ROM from there; it's very easy to upgrade: you just connect your phone to the PC and run the downloaded program on the PC. In 20 min you'll have the latest ROM. Since you are not a WM user, I would advise against using non official ROM's until you know better your system.
The battery gets much better after a few recharges. Also, read the tweak section on this forum. It's pretty easy to do and will significantly improve your battery life. Make sure you read all the posts so you understand better what's good for you.
The Diamond has a built in GPS. Whether it also has a navigation software is not certain. In certain countries it does, in other it doesn't. If you buy your software afterwards, there is a good chance you'll find detailed information about it on this forum.
Good luck and enjoy your new phone. You made a good choice
yes.. i used search but could not get a concrete answer as such.
anyway, i am in Mumbai, India.
GPS- If i have got the google maps wont it solve the navigation problem?
- If using wi-fi for 30 mins, calls-1 hr and games/music 20 mins.. will it last for a day atleast

Any good ROMs for Galaxy S

Hello ,
Now im thinking which phone to buy. I like Galaxy S but i read that samsung have a lot of problems(gps, lag, slow UI, Very slow when you install more programs, slow on multitasking) and etc. So is there good ROM for Galaxy S to fix it and make a galaxy as functional as htc desire ?
if you want to be able to mod your phone easy my advice is stay away from samsung, I have one and its very unfriendly
There are no true custom roms for the Galaxy S yet, there are modded roms that reqire specific base roms first.
Cyanogenmod has the Galaxy Series on it's roadmap but there is no working release yet.
HTC phones are the best if you want many options for custom roms and quick releases of future updates but overall I am pretty happy with my Galaxy S even though I do miss the options I had with my Magic in terms of roms.
Im not looking a phone to mod it, im asking are the ROMs will make galaxy much better than stock and functional like a HTC Desire ? Because its necsesary to write a rom in a galaxy S

I never had any issues with GPS on my phone, it worked fine for me driving around.
The lag is a minor annoyance at best. The new JPH Froyo build seems to be running pretty well for me so far, just installed it this morning and is solid thus far.
What??
I have purchased HTC for year and I never happy with it!
Now have a Galaxy S and it is another, better world!
For the first time, after many year with htc device, have seen my Galaxy S in top of all other device in Quadrant benchmark, 2307! From now, Samsumg rock!
I still have Eclair JM7, but it is always stable, fast UI, no problem with gps at all(as already sayd), a lot of apps installed ...all good!
The only thing, have installed clagfix.
Who had say to you that things, probably doesn't know Galaxy S

Highly doubt you got that score without One Click Lag Fix. The normal Quadrant score is around 800. If it wasn't for the people on XDA our phones won't be anywhere near as awesome as they are now !

Well, if choice is between desire or galaxy s, you can choose the sgs with your eyes closed. As soon as we will have a stable froyo with voodoo kernel stable release, this phone will ROCK! I would wait new HTC models though...

He said he used CLagFix, so very possible to get 2k+ Quadrant.
As for GPS stuff, my GPS works 60% of the time, and struggles the rest, I feel like it's kind of hit and miss depending on which ROM you are using, GPS settings, possibly area you are in, etc.
Also, I absolutely love this phone(I have a captivate but w/e still a Galaxy S, and I use I9000 ROM's anyway), and find it pretty easy to mod, and it's pretty much unbrickable.

Not true really TBH. Look at how much hassle you have to go to to root a HTC Desire for example with creating a goldcard then flashing an old firmware the finally being able to root it where as the Galaxy can be done from a simple update zip.
Yes, but we cannot be sure customs roms will eventually arrive. Imho all devs will go for Desire Hd and Desire Z

The lag is becoming less of an issue with newer ROMs but the GPS has a problem with accuracy regardless of what anyone here tells you. GPS was slow to fix in earlier firmwares but corrected in subsequent releases, this led some to claim that GPS is fixed, you'll see several comments from people waxing lyrical about getting GPS signal indoors when they couldn't before, but take it out into inner city roads when traffic is crawling a bit and it gets very confused placing you in the wrong lanes/directions etc due to poor accuracy.... basically it fails where even my old HTC magic excels, however drive on wide lane motorways and it's near flawless because accuracy isn't as critical.
Personally I'll still choose the SGS ahead of the Desire, but if you're not willing to tinker at all, then wait to see what improvements froyo delivers or choose the Desire because the JF3 firmware that ships out with most is awful, frustrating... useless!!

true, about 896. But still true which is a system partitioning bad configuration, not hardware issue
I hope Samsung fix the lag in next release!

If it took you 5 mins then it's true. It probably took less than 30 secs to root my SGS.
If I knew what I know today
.... I would never have traded my Nexus One for a Galaxy S. Here's why:
Spec wise the Galaxy S is the better phone. In real world, its utterly horrible. I suspect that the phone has not problems in the hardware, but the software really kills the experience.
What's great about it:
- It has Swype keyboard, and thats really impressive. Alas, it's not something Samsung created, they just bought it.
- Great camera application with lots of functions, takes great pictures. This is in my opinion the best thing Samsung has brought to this product.
- Acceptable battery lifetime, compared to similar phones.
- Reliable bluetooth operation, this is my first Android phone that works every time and all the time in my car.
What I expected but did not get:
- A screen that performed better outdoors. I washes out completely, and is not any better than the other phones I have had. It is bigger though.
What's driving me nuts:
- Exchange sync sucks bigtime. I keep loosing all my contacts until I force sync it again. My calendar doesnt work at all. Coming from CM6 on Nexus One I'm used to everything just working.
- Lag. This is supposed to be a fast phone. It's not in any way fast doing anything at all. If I upgrade an application from the Market, I can forget about using the phone until it has finished installing. Its a snail, and I don't care if its caused by the filesystem, the kernel or just Samsungs programmers. Its totally unacceptable and shows that this phone should not have been released. (Oh yeah, I am running lagfix, that doesnt really help, it just pushes the problem a bit ahead in time)
What Samsung couldn't bother to implement:
- Working GPS. My Nexus One and HTC Magic has far better GPS precision (and I'm not talking about fix time, which is also horrible on the Samsung). I'm glad I'm not using it for navigation.
- Stereo FM. Come on Samsung, this is 2010. I'm not using it, but why include it half heartedly?
What Samsung found more fun to do instead:
- Selection of three custom fonts, of which two are too ugly to use. Seriously?
- Widget that shows how many applications are running. Who cares about that, isn't Android supposed to end all this focusing on what is running and what is not ....
- Four different phones released that are basically the same. "The GPS isn't working. Should we fix it? Nah, lets make a phone version with four software buttons instead."
I'm about to give up on this thing. I upgraded my HTC Magic to CM6 the other day, and it seems to be running circles around my Galaxy S.
My only problem if I'm giving up on this phone, is what to get instead. Maybe the HTC Desire HD, but again it's basically the same as my Nexus One with just a bigger screen.

Pro cons se arc vs lg optimus 2x

Currently I have a se arc and I love the design. However, I read a couple of interesting things about this phone. As I didn't had any usefull to ask for my coming birthday I will get an optimus 2x
As you guys are the serious users, what pro/cons do you have for me as information. Please let me know.
I heard some bad things about bad incoming volume and good things about real fast web browsing. Is this all true?
Sent from my arc using tapatalk
I'm using latest baseband version and no problems with sound quality at all.
Pro:
- very responsive device
- unlocked bootloader
- good camera
- nice hardware quality
Cons:
- stock launcher is not the most fluid one
- some users are experiencing software issues
- no dedicated led for notifications (you can use buttons backlight instead)
only con for the P990: CM7 not available (yet)
Pretty much all cons are software issues, CM will have that sorted... just wish they'd hurry up
Only hardware con appears to be backlight bleed of varying degrees.
Thanks 2 all, I am sure cm7 is just a matter of time with the devs over here.
Backlight bleed? Never heard of it, will google... Thanks.

Only some devices have this bug, the best way to check backlight issue:
Go to the shop, ask salesman for O2X, connect charger to O2X, during the bootanimation/charging animation check upper corners, and see, if this specific unit has problems. If not, pick it
Well, impatient as always I bought one today, its on the charger now. When started first time it mentioned it has a software update. As I was on the road I ignored it because I had no wifi available.
Back home I just set up wifi but now it say I already have the latest software. Very strange.
I searched already, but is there a easy one click app to root this phone?
What is the best rom I should use? I saw a lot but which one is the most stable and have the best look?

Try a few and see what you like. Everyone has different opinions
MCR is the best option at the moment.

samsung galaxy S pros and cons?

im a current x10i owner and being abit disapointed with the phone overall im looking to exchange( i have a shop near me tht will do a str8 swap) and im just wondering what disadvantages the sgs as got.hows the 2.3 roms..stable? and also is there any miui compatibility, iv looked up abit and can see the screen is clearly better on tht sgs the only thing that seems to be worst is the camera which is 5mp but i can live with that, any help would be appreciated, cheers in advance
plenty of custom roms and kernels, loads of development, great screen, so so gps, not sure about miui, its a bit buggy, but yes it has been ported to sgs, I love my sgs!

Just aggreed.
As far as I know, MIUI is very experimental for now, but CM7 works fine (note that it is not released yet and yes, there are bugs!).
You may also consider using custom ROM's based on stock, like:

I think miui is stable enough for me as daliy use

I see only 2 cons for the Galaxy S :
1/ If you have little hands ... the Galaxy S is quite big
2/ No flash for the camera
All the rest is perfect for me, and as mentioned above, many custom ROMs exist for this phone, especially MIUI
-no flash for the camare (its not ipmoprtant to me but most people like taking pictures)
-it has less user available ram (329 Mb) compared to its brothers like galaxy tab
+after gps fix, it never lost me or never led me to a wrong target..
+even with that little amount of ram (which i complain obssesively about at every chance recently) it is one of the fastest devices..
For me, 720p recording is still far from 30fps,and looks more like 25. A couple days ago I was trying Sony Arc with SGS 2 and still same problem.Sony was smoother in 720p recording than even Sgs2. But I cant find anything bout this here so i ques its just my imagination

This phone is approximately one year old now (so it isn't a new phone). It has a camera, but no flash. The GPS seems to be judged using GPS status or by how fast it locks, not by how well it actually performs. In regards to the quality of GPS there is so much debate over the quality of the GPS, that you should assume the GPS is broken (and honestly, many who claim it does work refuse to provide tracks). Recently, OTA updates seem to have been introduced, but I haven't actually heard of any being provided.
That being said, the plastic finish is UNDERRATED! I haven't heard of anyone's plastic backing break. And the Gorilla glass is a nice touch.
At this time, I wouldn't bother with the SGS though. For those who want a Android phone for productivity, the HTC's are probably a more "polished" experience (the Desire HD at least was). For gaming/multimedia, you'd want a dual core phone, or to just get a tablet. A lot of us are only happy with the SGS because we paid money for it..
....and then we hacked and tuned the heck out of them til they fly!
Insanity cm 014/glitch
After first owning a htc hero then a desire HD I do find that the SGS is a very capable device and i won't be looking for a new one for some time if my sgs carries on performing the way it does now ill have no need plus its taken a good few knocks and bumps I even managed to drop it in a pint of beer down said pint save my phone and carry on the conversation I was having

Incredible S has GLONASS support. When will it be activated?

Apparently, Qualcomm updated the drivers for the s2 and s3 chips, to support GLONASS navigation. That's great.
But when will it be enabled on the HTC phones?
I know the old Sony Xperia line got updates.
Do you think it is coming in the ICS Sense 3,6 update???

No?
OK
Hmm.. Might not be HTC's priority number 1, since GPS system allready works pretty nicely.
Maybe in some far-future-update, but I hardly belive that its activated in the upcoming ICS update.
Well, here in Scandinavia, the GPS system isn't quite as accurate, and my Inc S frequently jumps 20-100 meters all over the place, especially when running in the forests. The Russian GLONASS system covers the northern hemisphere and would increase accuracy in Scandinavia by over 50%. Down to ~2m....
In other words - I, personally would probably see a significant improvement. That's why I'm wondering...

Well you might see that I live in Scandinavia too. And I'm well aware that GPS is really inaccurate from time to time.
But still probably not important enough for HTC. Most customers don't need GLONASS, so some regional update is highly unlikely.
You're probably right. Even though Sony updated all their old xperia phones immediately.
Too bad.
Nothing yet
Send a mail to HTC'c customer support and ask them?
Will most likely not help, but you never know until you've tried

Isn't it possible to enable GLONASS in a custom ROM? HTC will never update this phone more.

Wouldn't that be more of a kernel thing? Maybe Nonverbose could weigh in on the possibility of enabling it somehow.
