All your answers are on here 0 use search!
But to help
It has built in GPS hardware, you supply the software (tom tom whatever(
Battery life is a couple of days on mine with latest UK stock ROM and moderate usage although you need to go through a few charge cycles to achieve the optimum
Latest ROMS are all fast - there are many to choose from
Hope this helps

If you buy your Diamond now, there is a good chance it will come with the latest ROM, in which case speed is not really an issue. If not, just register on HTC e-Club and download the latest ROM from there; it's very easy to upgrade: you just connect your phone to the PC and run the downloaded program on the PC. In 20 min you'll have the latest ROM. Since you are not a WM user, I would advise against using non official ROM's until you know better your system.
The battery gets much better after a few recharges. Also, read the tweak section on this forum. It's pretty easy to do and will significantly improve your battery life. Make sure you read all the posts so you understand better what's good for you.
The Diamond has a built in GPS. Whether it also has a navigation software is not certain. In certain countries it does, in other it doesn't. If you buy your software afterwards, there is a good chance you'll find detailed information about it on this forum.
Good luck and enjoy your new phone. You made a good choice

yes.. i used search but could not get a concrete answer as such.
anyway, i am in Mumbai, India.
GPS- If i have got the google maps wont it solve the navigation problem?
- If using wi-fi for 30 mins, calls-1 hr and games/music 20 mins.. will it last for a day atleast

new user, initial setup?

I just upgraded from a 8125 (wizard) to a tilt from at&t. I had my wizard replaced through warranty with a tilt in the last month of my 8125 warranty, don't ask me how... The lady on the phone was quite helpful and definitely went above and beyond to give me that phone for free. I have been flipping through the kaisers forums for a couple of days now and Ive learned a few things like the driver problem and some other limitations/features available software and the likes.
What I'm curious is what would you people suggest I do as a new user? Skip the at&t extended rom? What software I should load onto it? What software I should remove? I am aware of the registry tweaker, but theres many options. What registry entries are good for an average user to use? What cabs or patches should I apply to my phone to get it in optimal order? Any other things that I currently am not thinking of or not aware of?
I do not think I wish to upgrade the rom or any of that sort. I am conscious of battery life and have learned that most roms make battery life suffer/the risk of flashing is not worth the upgrade for me since I will be out of warranty soon. Should I be convinced to flash? I have learned about a wm6.1 though. Is this something already on my phone or is this something at&t will be offering as an update already/in the future?
I have looked at the wiki and scanned through a lot of pages but I haven't seen anything that would be helpful for new users. This would be a good thread to have stickied.
How on Earth is there nothing helpful for a new user on this site? This thread is a redundant thread.. lol

and where the hell did you get the idea that a cooked rom makes battery life worse???
I should have been more clear in what I meant. Instead of there not being information, there is too much information and assumes a certain level of knowledge already. To expect somebody to read through all the pages in the multiple forum sections just to get up and running is unfair. At count, I am at page 25 on the general discussion but I still know barely anything relative to how much info is out there.
To address the software question, most software is simply just listed, nary a description or information about it or suggestions on how useful it is. I would like to try software but I don't want to have to install 50 things just to find 5 that I like, not to mention the residual mess of a crummy uninstall. Same goes with cabs, patches and tweaks. For somebody who is quite familiar with the device, issues and history its quite easy to navigate around the knowledge but for somebody who doesn't know exactly what they are looking for it can be quite cumbersome.

Thanks for that but I'm not a moron, I didn't click it. Plus no need to be a jerk.
To address the battery life issue, in several threads reads ive read, people have stated horrible battery life with the kaiser such as about half a day or less and have stated they have are currently using a cooked rom. I know my deductive reasoning is slightly flawed but I hardly believe that the factory rom would yeild that bad of battery life (I know its quite bad but not that much). Secondly, I've been using the wizard forum for quite some time now and most of the cooked roms make battery life worse for that device. One would only expect the issue to be somewhat similar.

then u should just try out the roms and make that conclusion urself in regards to battery life
Welcome Matthew -
I am going to try and give you an analogy - most people purchase a car and it works - they like the car - they get some extras like a CD player - or Satellite radio etc. When their car has a problem they take it to the dealer. He fixes it and give it back to them STOCK.
Some other people have to hot rod their cars - soup them up so to speak.
You have come to the ultimate "soup up" shop, and dropped in and said that it should not be this difficult to own a car and that you do not know enough to do this.
There is great news for you - your phone will work just fine the way that you got it. It is designed by AT&T to work EXACTLY the way that you got it. No more no less.
Your battery life should be just fine. (although some have had problems - but then you take it back to AT&T and they FIX it).
At this point - if you wish to "soup" your phone - dig in and start reading. You will be surprised at how easy it is to soup your phone, and how happy you can be with it. BUT - like going to a foreign country and trying to talk to them in English you are going to tick people off here. You need to TRY and work with them - try a little soup speak and you will find it goes a long way.

How do you think most of us learned what and how? Not everyones device acts the same.
Yeah pretty much what you need to do is search for things you might want and then go from there. If you want a video program that search for video, etc etc.
And actually the rom I'm using now gets way better battery life then the 3 I had before it.

Receiving my Diamond shortly, what tweaks etc should I apply?

Should be receiving my Diamond Monday. The information on the site is somewhat overwhelming lol. Anyone recommend essential tweaks, applications etc. Thanks!
I'm in the same situation as you.... will receive my Diamond next week and have been reading for 2 days everywhere on the net but mainly here... still i have some questions like you? mayby iäm slow or something ;-) Hope you don't mind me asking some Newbie questions here too...
- If i decide to use to official Rom in my phone can i tweak my phone to the same performance as when i use for example Duttys rom? if the answer is Yes the next question is whats the difference then if i add all the programs to?
(Scared of bricking my new Juwel) ;-)
-could someone point out the benefits/downsides with keeping official rom vs a custom one.
Hope that you don't have anything against that i hijacked your thread abit plbe if so let me know and i will remove the questions. Just that i'm sure many people here allready know the answers to our questions and i don't want to use more space than nessesarry ...
Thanks!

Well, the official ROM is usually somewhat slower and could have some 'problems' diamond users experience. Although sometimes an official update is available which could solve some stuff.
The main advantage of using a custom rom is that it's pre-tweaked. Has some tweaks you cannot get unless you flash a new ROM (so the tweaks are in the ROM itself). Take a different pagepool for example. Try and do a search about what that it.
Usually a new ROM also combines a set of the newest software from HTC. So the newest keyboard app from another HTC update, the new TouchFlo from somewhere else. And that combined gives you the latest software and tweaks.
Also, when you dont like touchflo 3d for example, there are custom roms that have removed that. And perhaps remove all other 'extra' software as well. Those are the so called 'light' roms. Those give you max memory and max speed (if possible) at the cost of less applications running thus removing certain functions. You can then add those functions as you please. So you don't end up with a phone that has stuff for 20 things, while you would only need 8 or something (just a random example).
In the case of the TouchFlo3D, if you dont like that and want something else as your today screen you want to get rid of it to free up some memory!
In all my experience with a lot of HTC phones, the 'best' roms were always custom ones. But it's getting harder and harder to see what's good and what's not. As you have probably seen already there are a lot of roms out there for the Diamond. I can only suggest you go and read what the differences seem to be between the roms.
Also read the comments on the roms and try to get some understanding of the changes made to the different versions.
Try to remember though (and this is always the nasty part) you can remove your warranty by flashing another ROM. Also (with the diamond in rare cases) you could 'brick' your phone. Which is no more than a failed update which makes your device unusable. I must say, with the Diamond that almost seems impossible when you just flash normal custom roms. But the 'risk' is always there in some way.
Read about the correct hard spl when you want to flash (need that one before you can flash a new rom, the hard spl unlocks your phone for custom roms). That would be the first step anyway.
And well, after all this info which isn't a lot at all (but it is!) and might or might not help you, the ROM I use is: Duttys V3.6b Final, the 12mb pagepool version.
You can find it here.
Read the howto flash part! It's in the second post all the way below the changelogs.
Obviously everyone has their favourite rom they use, and they all say theirs is the best. So you should really find that out yourself.
In every rom thread you will find things like 'I tried a lot of roms, but yours is the best!'. Try em out yourself and let you be the judge of that. Just take some time to try them out and see what you think is important in a ROM.
Thanks... answered my questions
Thanks alot for your answers it made it all clear for me now... !!
Now i only have to wait for my diamond ... and i have to say this Forum makes the Diamond even more usefull and valuable...
Thanks again...
Is there a preferred custom ROM amongst users here? BTW, which tweak program are you referring to? I've seen quite a few on here? Thanks.
i would def load the "background on all tab pages" tweak...this allows you to have your Home wallpaper on all the other tab pages.

That's what I've been doing for the past couple of hours lol. Some of these threads are HUGE. I still cannot decide which one to try. Looking at the radio bits too. Also curious about landscape keyboard. From what I understand...keyboard is only available in portrait mode but there are some fixes for that?

Is that part of that Advanced Config application?
"What Custom Rom is the best" and "What tweaks should I use" are both very subjective so we don't allow them for this reason.
Best recommendation I (or anyone) can give is to read about the things you think you want to use and ask for clarification in those threads.

New Diamond user seeking some advice

Ok I've been searching the forums for a while now to find answers to my questions and I've answered a few of them but I think I need a little more advice.
I'm using the HTC Touch Diamond and the Model NO shows DIAM500 on the back I've got MP6950, ROM version is 1.22.557.1, Radio Version 1.03.06F. I'm a CDMA user (Pretty sure anyway) and my carrier is Cellular South.
I love my Diamond it's just my carrier that seems to be a problem. I live out in the boonies so my reception is virtually non-existant at home. Not a major problem but an annoying one. It's not just with the Diamond it's with every cell phone I've ever had. Also the battery life could be better I think, I get about 4 hours with pretty moderate use while I have signal (at work). Haven't really done any tweaking YET but I've started messing around today.
Now this brings me to the reason I'm posting. I was looking into updating my ROM but was not able to download the latest from the HTC site (I figured out why). So as far as ROM's go I'm a little confused with all the custom ROMS posted here, I don't really know which would be best for me and if they will work at all and not screw up my phone. Can anyone offer some advice on what ROM is should use?
And I also want to play around with different Radios because I'm under the impression that it could help my reception issue, and then again it probably won't since I've always had this issue. So has anyone had luck with a certain radio helping poor reception? Is there one that would be better for me than the others?
I'm sure these are fairly regular and annoying questions but I just want to make sure I don't throw away the purchase I just made by updating the ROM and radio.
Most of XDA Forum is not for CDMA.
You can always find custom ROMs. Each ROM is different from the others (included applications and options which affect memory usage and performance). So there really isnt a "best ROM." You can check out the thread for CDMA ROMs and make sure you know how to install new ROMs and that you have the needed applications (HardSPL for GSM I dont know if its the same for CDMA). If you have what it takes you can try several ROMs and radios to find the most suitable one for you. Normally this shouldnt harm your phone unless you dont read well before attempting.
Hope this helps.

Battery life issue

Hi,
I tried all andriod rom that found on this forum. Most of them is fine except the battery life issue. Could you tell me which rom works with good battery life? Where can I find it?
Thanks.
People like you shouldn't be allowed on the internet.
There is no battery efficient Android yet.
If you had read so much as one thread before you posted, you would understand that Android is still in a quite early stage on the Xperia, with both battery issues and non working functions.
So please, Either read the threads first or leave the internet.
battery is still a current issue like many other functions - noticed that was your first post - please read most of the threads before asking any questions
oooh please, if you look 2 threads down youll seee a one called improving battery live.
like frier sad android on x1 is not close

1. battery life + stability (biggest problem for all ports)
2. wifi, gps, bluetooth (solution is there especially for wifi, just needs to be implemented correctly)
3. camera (im sure the solution isnt that difficult)
4. a nand flash so we can create android ROMs for x1 (this one might never happen, would be great though because SD cards can crash easily. i also read that they found a solution for the diamond or tp2? dont remember exactly)
hmm..so the only REALLLL problem is battery life and stability which most likely go hand-in-hand. android on the x1 is damn close, but our devs seem to have left us ..
hmmmmmm goin to get x10.
Oh, Thanks. I will read more threads for that.

[Q] Which is the best rom for...?

Well First off I gotta say some of the things here are pretty damn super.
But the thing I find is most of these roms take up too much battery all too quickly, even when i barely use my phone.
So which rom should i try and stick in order to maximise my battery life?
Quick response would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Well, the question is what you really want to have in your ROM and what is obsolete for you. Eye-candy needs power....
Switch of all automatic Facebook, email, weather, stock, twitter etc. updates, switch off 3G, dim the light and use wifi only when necessary - this will increase your battery life significantly.
And you might try the link in my signature as well.
I'm not an expert but according to my experience for cooked ROMs,
- Xara & Vision and (this ROM is similar to Jeperlea's) is very good bettery drainage but the HTC Calculator annoy me very much. Anyway, -Jeperlea has been back to continue his ROM, but I really feel boring of his ROM's inconsistence
- Russell Eclair's, his ROM is also very impressive for me, unfortunately his Final ROM has some trouble in the first usage. Over all, like it.
- SGXU XPERIA UNOFF, like this ROM too, unfortunately some program isn't working properly.
- 826X-peria, some version is great in battery drainage and performance but some isn't. This ROM is also stopped due to stolen willyung's gadget.
The worst; Energy ROM, I dunno know why people flash this **** to their phone because it's the worst ROM I've ever used. Good interface (Kinda boring), but really poor performance, u can't use this for daily used.
Sorry to the OP for slightly drifting off topic.

Well, maybe because not everybody acts according to your standards.
I won't go through all the "fantastic" ROMs you listed above just to verify whether Energy ROMs are that bad or not. It's just strange that you kind of recommend ROMs which obviously have problems running at all and contain annoying software.
><(((º>
I am happy with Energy, it is way more performant than others I tried before - and it just works out of the box.
