Hello.
Had cause to change digitizer recently, and all went well. Phone tested ok and all functions working.
Without any further changes to the phone the notification bar would not unscroll if the phone is held in the upright position. Tried a factory reset and also a repair phone, but problem remains.
Tried flashtool with clean image, screen now has an even larger area that will not respond.
Tried .423 and still the same issue.
Software or hardware: any suggestions gratefully received.

Yes I tried repair through PC companion; Flashed new firmware - Not certain that I know what emma is?
Although I tend to agree that the hardware is 'faulty', it does seem at odds with the fact the phone was fully functioning after I replaced the screen with a OEM digitizer & glass.
As the phone was still 'new ' to me, having broken it within three days of ownership, I set about installing every free app I could. A few days later I thought I'd use the Factory Reset option to start afresh.
The phone worked as expected although I now noticed that I could not access the notification tab unless I rotated the screen. I then started down the path of using PC companion & Flashtool: The result is the screen has a more pronounced dead zone. Using the developer options I found the Y axis will not go lower than 400 (approx), X axis is fully functioning under this value.
I'm thinking I need to reference how the display is drawn: Segmental through the digitizer pins, or through software?
If all else fails: My 'run out of ideas plan' will be to remove the new glass from the digitizer, and replacing it upon the old digitizer...

If my phones battery runs out while i'm in a call, when i charge it again the phone seems to think its in a call and doesn't boot into the today screen.
It just sits on this screen,

(not my phone but the right screen), with the volume drop down saying In call.
the only way i can seem to get it to boot is a hard reset, and then I lose everything in my phone.
Any suggestions as to how I can get it to boot properly without a hards reset would be appreciated.

That sucks, a Battery Pull or Soft Reset doesn't work?
Nope, just tried both.
It's an XDA Stellar. I just hope it's fixed in 6.1 when the release it (hopefully) next month.

So, you are using the default ROM? After a hard-reset, use your phone with no 3rd party software and see if your phone does the same thing.
Yep Default ROM. I'll try it and see if it happens again, with no software installed

You might want to check in the Hermes thread because the phone in the picture is a Hermes not a Kaiser.

He mentioned in his original post that it is not his phone but that's the screen his phone gets stuck on.
I just got back from holiday, and whilst on holiday i was using the ear phones & music player on the phone. I made the mistake of sitting down, catching the ear phones plug & bending it whilst it was plugged in. This has damaged the USB port. It still charges, but the ear phone/connectivity pins have been broken within the phone.
Too make matters worse, i reset the phone soon after (soft reset) only to be greeted with the screen below. I have tried a hard reset, loading the bootloader (camera, power & reset buttons) and every other combination of buttons iv found on the internet. So far nothing has helped/changed it. The screen doesnt rotate with the keyboard, and the off button doesnt work. (turns phone on, but not off).
I am tempted to send the phone off to HTC, as it is under warrenty but i dont know whether the fact it has a custom ROM on will effect it at all. iv had minor problems with the screen i would ask them to look at aswel.
Would a broken USB be fixable under warrenty? Then would a custom ROM (even if it doesnt boot) cause a fuss? Then finally, is there anyway to flash a new ROM to the phone without using the USB card?
many thanks guys, any advice is appreciated

iv read up on flashing a new rom via my sd card, but i am really struggling to find a the .nbh file (which i then rename). I dont spose anyone can link me to a standard .nbh file could they? Hopefully this will enable me to get it next to standard prior to sending it off to HTC.
thanks guys
if its an .exe rom update, use winrar to extract it and there you'll find the .nbh
I had the same problem, broken usb on at&t tilt, flashed a shipped rom and got a new device via a warranty exchange. I couldn't get the SPL back to original but the guys at the device support center didn't notice.
thank you for the reply mate, was just what i needed!
Unfortunatly it didnt work, and even having put the file on my SDcard and resetting the phone it still boots to the tri colour screen. Got my hopes up, as the phone did load the file and run through it...only for me to reset it and it go back to the tri colour screen.
Will the HTC device centre likely accept it all the same?
cheers guys
Tried it again, this time resetting it, loading up from the SDcard then taking the card out before resetting. Now im getting:
'' Upgrade ROM code error Please try again ''
RUUNBH has also appeared in the top right hand corner, with the same tri coloured screen.
As this is not covered by warrenty (spoke to HTC today) im a bit worried about what i can do. Does anyone have any ideas i could try?
thanks
My D4 bit the dust tonight after having it for a year and a half. I think moisture from leaving it in the bathroom during my showers killed it. The phone gets power, but when I turn it on I get white/black static. It won't even show the Motorola boot animation. I am wondering if there is a way to get my pictures off the internal memory card? When I plug my phone up to the computer I get the little sound that my phone is connected, but it doesn't show up. I have tried a reset and booting into safe mode, but the screen just shows black/white static.

Hi, it sounds like you got the same problem as described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552978
I wonder if more people will pop up having this problem suddenly. Can you check if you can connect to your Phone through adb when on the static screen? That still seems to work here.
It might make sense to move this discussion to that other thread to have one location for the people having the same problem.

I got this phone the other day, It's just got snow all over the screen (it's out of warranty) so I opened the cover, pulled off all connectors and re-seated them (didn't remove any boards, just what was accessible once the back covers were off.
I am new to Android but, this model I have replaced 2 Displays on (not this phone), seems I get one for cheap with a broken display, I fix it and someone offers me more than triple what I paid for, so I keep selling them :-/ (a man cant turn down a big profit). So I know how to pull this phone apart and replace parts if needed. I was looking to give Android a solid shot here (I am a Windows Phone person now)and not sell this one...
Not sure if the display is toast or this is just a Bricked or something else.
Note:
-If I connect to a PC, it connects fine
-When the phone is on, If I touch the lower of the screen, I hear clicking
-Double click on the center of the screen wakes up the display.
-Verzion software tool does not detect the phone (even though a drive is mapped for it)
Also to know, I have never rooted a Android device, so no idea on how to tell if it's rooted or not from the file system. Yea, when it comes to Android devices, I am a NooB.
Any idea ?
Thanks in advance !
Ok, Still trying to trouble shoot this, figuring it was a Brick or something with a lot of effort (The touch screen seems to work but, power off was a guessing game where to push to get it into bootloader mode).
I tried to go back to Stock with it, following these directions...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448960
Now during the process, every once an a while, on the top of the screen, I can see about 1/2 of the ICONs, it's static so it does not update but, it's the most I have seen off this display.
After showing Successful, it's still doing the same thing. accept a hair of it, static across the top of the screen.
So, does this lead down to a hardware based issue (if so, what part should be replaced), or is this display damaged and needs a replacement ?
Has anyone gone through this and can help ?
Edit, Picked up the one of the cables for the phone that the video, power, headphones all plug into, as all my problems are resulting in something that plugs into this cable, figured I would give it a shot, The only things that are left are the Main board, or the display itself.
Maybe this will fix it ?

Does anyone have any input that might help me here ? Will this part fix it, or is this phone screwed completely ?
So a couple of days back I was updating my apps from Play Store over WiFi and after that I tried to check the Amazon Appstore app for updates. Everything went normally but after the completion of the update check process my screen started displaying artifacts, somewhat like this as it happened to a Moto X 2014 user, mine is a 2013
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59982007&postcount=12
then after a while the whole screen turned to this;

The touchscreen was working though so I was able to turn the device off by tapping in the center of the screen at the position the 'Power off' prompt usually appears but on restart the same damn thing. This pixellated artifact display was even showing in the boot up screen and then the screen stayed on until the power button was tapped to turn it off. I even checked the power off charging screen and it was the same, so I left the device off for the night, planning to take it to a service center the next day.
The next day when I turned the device on it was the same pixellated screen so I proceeded to do a remote wipe from Android Device Manager portal since the device already had Wifi on but then suddenly the display came back, just like that. I was unable to recreate the issue by following the same steps as it happened the first time. I have only like a month remaining in my warranty period and with my luck it will surely resurface after the warranty is over.
So my question is, is there any way to find out if this is a hardware or a software issue? Someone on that other thread I linked said something about a qcom bug in the adreno drivers,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59986742&postcount=15
so could this be a result of that bug? My Moto X (2013) is on stock 5.1 and is running quite smoothly after a couple FDRs. If this is in fact a software bug, would it persist after a shutdown/reset? A question of overheating can also be ruled out since the device was left switched off overnight and there was no change in the display after turning it on the following morning. Then how did the display restore itself after the device was left on for some time? Was it an internal process involving the graphics subsystems that somehow crashed the adreno driver and was reset after completion? I also made a post on the official Motorola forums but unfortunately nothing helpful there either. https://forums.motorola.com/posts/f371030235
This whole thing is really spooky so if anyone is able to throw any light into this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
