LiquidSmooth?

I'll assume either PAC or AOKP -- both are clocked higher than the rest and have the OC GPU which will result in higher scores

10795....its 1000 lower than the Mex Retail above....needs to run it again with the clock speed forced to 2ghz....then we'll see who has the higher score

To OC PA, all ya gotta to is take the kernel and /system/lib/modules from a PAC nightly and swap out.
That dude sounds stupid....my phone has 8 cores, I think I'll overclock it because 8 cores just doesn't get the job done

We used to get crappy scores on the Defy with ICS+, but it ran really smooth which is all that really matters in the end.
There's just too many factors involved for different devices...chipsets, drivers, custom rom or not, how good the custom devs are, stock rom bloat...just changing from ondemand to performance will give better scores, but how often to you run the phone maxed out??? not really a real world result then...
I could super-optimize PAC and maybe get another 1000-2000 Antutu points or another 500-1000 for the other, but I'd also be doing crap you just should not do (like force the gpu at max, cpu to max, memory tweaks, etc)...phone might even lag like hell, but the score would be better

For OCing PA, kernel is the boot.img right? And thanks for that tip. And way too much overkill, AHD runs faster than my laptop lol. 8 cores is only for the international variant, US S4 has quad core Snapdragon 800.

Yes, boot.img
How to use a kernel from one rom on another (same Android version)
Open both roms in 7 Zip --- rom A being the base with the kernel you want, rom B is the one you're tweaking
Drag and drop boot.img from A to B
Delete /system/lib/modules from B
Drag and drop /system/lib/modules into rom B's /system/lib directory
Due to how on the ball our dev team is, try to pick roms within a day or so of each other...not usually necessary, but our kernel changes quite a bit from week to week and might require more than just the boot.img and modules (hint hint -- the firmware and proprietary libs).
//I can't stand it when US has one version and the rest of the world the good one (and vice-a-versa)....Samsung is worse than Motorola when it comes to goofy crap like that these days...used to be Moto was the clone phone company...not as much these days.

in antutu looked, well, at least up to 960MHz, near the 902 and now everything is stable, but want more
They also did something 921 or 979
I can't get more than 845Mhz because it hangs or reboot.

previous ketut kernel were able to OC much more than 902 but were not stable for most of users.. very few lucky CPU's got some speed and they might be amongst them..
if OC get stable at 960 then ketut might update blackhawk kernel..
if you are so eager to get OC then download sources mod them and try if it works

Hi,
I wouldn,t say benchmark don't care anybody, but they are useless if not done with identical setup of installed apps etc.
Maybe it would be interesting to compare benchmarks after wipe and flash of custom roms with no additional sw installed. But for myself battery, wifi and other things are more important than max performance.

Battery also drains differently with softwares and widgets installed. So you freeze bloatware and setup apps to fix autonomy.
It the same for performance. I try to get the best of my phone and AnTuTu help me to setup
Regarding modems, sure you can compare wich is the best but not with speedtest. So different results in 5 minutes.
But you can see which get the best signal in différent place
So it's not really easy to compare item... But enjoy to do it

[Q] Kernel advise?

I am sure as of now, over 70% of us have an unlocked bootloader. :highfive:
I am delighted that we have a CM10.1 available for our phone and couldn't express how delighted i am with it!
I would just like to suggest ideas on Kernels or would like to start a kernel thread with suggestions.
I have noticed that we have a small number of kernels and would like to know what one stands out from the crowd?
I've noticed with CM10.1 that my battery life is dreadful and the over heating happens too much. Any suggestions?

we have three kernels: stock 20x kernel which comes with 20x, CM kernel which comes with CM, and EPRJ kernel for CM/20x which is quite unstalble as it's in pre-alpha state. so my suggestion is, stick to either stock kernel or CM default kernel.

The P880 has the potential to be a complete beast, but somewhere down the line the Tegra 3 management let's it down.

Nexus 5 User Benchmark Thread - With Added Competition!

So, now that a few of us are finally getting our hands on the devices, let’s get some proper user benchmarks going! Mine should be with me in the next couple of days, but hopefully there’s enough people with phones now to get a good set! Let's see how the snapdragon 800 with pure android compares with the rest of the pack...
EDIT - Let's get a leader board going! I'll only post scores backed up with a screenshot showing the score. (Yes, I know, benchmarks don't really mean that much...)
Geekbench 2 - 4,961 - Simms22
Antutu - 40,723 - Simms22
Quadrant - 30,497 - Simms22
Linpack - 1259 - Simms22
Sunspider - 536 ms (Chrome (/beta)) - Simms22
3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited - 17902 - Newbieandroid
Some suggestions to get going (obviously there will be more that people can run if they want)
Sunspider
GFXBench (GLBenchmark 2.7)
3D Mark
Google Octane
Mozilla Kraken
BrowserMark (2.0)
Vellamo
Linpack
Quadrant
AntuTu
Also it would be nice to see what the read/write speeds of the internal memory are like, so if anyone could post those up it would be great!

So you want to tell me that clocking higher like 10-15% S600 should match S800? sorry but but that's just not possible there is an issue with the N5 being tested imho, the S800 should destroy the S600 no matter of the cheats, they are equal on the graphs.

Not sure what your on about... The note 3 has a snapdragon 800 not a 600
Edit: Oh if you mean the s4, I believe that's the octa core variant not snapdragon. Don't quote me though
And let's not forget, Samsung and others put loads of optimisations for benchmarks that increase the scores, if you had the n4 I'm sure you would have heard of the dalvik patches from the s4? They increased benchmarks from 17-18 to 21k without any oc.

Please for the love of God, forget AnTuTu! It's easy to rig and it measures I/O, memory etc., and inconsistently, therefore it doesn't give usable individual benchmarks.
Nexus 5 owners need to run AnandTech's test apps, 3D Mark, Sunspider, Browsermark, Vellamo, Basemark, GLBenchmark, Epic Citadel and Google Octane.

If anyone used a Nexus 4 maybe he could remember that i did the same tests for nexus 4 too....but now its differend...
On nexus 4 i used Antutu tester which benchmarks the battery life by pushing the phone to the limits until it was reached 20% of battery life. By making this we had a lot of great results but after talking with Franco on Google+ he told me that the benchmark is based on the speed the cores are using and by him having the thermal throttle to a bigger value he didnt lose core power while pushing the phone to a higher temps making the phone drain faster...so we had results but they was a bit inacurate...
On nexus 5 i try to think and found a way to benchmark the battery life again...by using some benchmark applications i found on Google Play Store but none of them will give me the perfect scores that i want to test and don't "throw" back any kernel and the developent by having the same results that i had with Nexus 4.
So the only think i was able to think is to try the phone like i normally do, without any games, and take the results when the phone closes by it self due to no battery life at all...
I make this for now i have only test Trinity and Stock...but more kernels will come...right now im testing Francos (4/2/14)...feel free to judge in proper way the results...feel free to experiment by your self...but always remember that this is benchmarks or if you like MY way of using the phone so don't judge only by the results...
As for the testing i will always use pure stock 4.4.2 rom!
P.S oh and sorry if i killed English
P.S1 To any admin...pls don't lock this cause its differend from the thread about battery life per user stats...thanks!
Next kernel: ElementalX 0.26
2/02/14:Finish benchmark for Trinity T5 7.5A
4/02/14:Finish benchmark for Stock 4.4.3
7/02/14:Finish benchmark for Franco r32
8/02/14:Finish benchmark for Faux 008m
13/02/14:Finish benchmark for Elementalx 026
13/02/14:I will rerun tests with the addition of idle drain... So I will let the battery drain all day with my usage... Then I will let what's left of juice to drain through night... Same settings as before... And I will have also idle drain that alot of users asked for it... Sorry for the delay I'm trying to have as much as correct results to help us all...

After a long ride i finally finish testing franco...even that he gives me some difficulties just like the test on Nexus 4...next test kernel is faux 008m....
I wanna say something in here...is that this is a very long proccedure.....and i always saw ppl complaining about their battery life and how they can get a better life but as i saw on this thread, not like the same thread on nexus 4 that uses some pretty unrealistick data, ppl don't treat this thread as the users of nexus 4....
For me i know which kernel is the best...but im cycling my battery for the community here to have an image of how kernels react!!Thanks!!!
And again..sorry that i kill your english!
Your second day of franco looks a little weird. Less battery time than the first day and way less screen time. Any comments on that?

The Kernel is mostly an Optimized Stock kernel so there's no modifications or features etc....no need for now....its just stock with linaro
Ah, thanks for the info. Appreciate your work here.

Interesting indeed.
Though, the variables are off the charts and skew results, which shows.
No offense to you or your efforts.
Google search being one variable, one day it's not very active, the next it's got a bug for Olympic results to ones local and the battery life is hugely effected.
Or, congestion on carrier, your location, longer talk times etc..
So, again thanks for the effort, but it is what it is, a huge guesstimate.

As I said this is a benchmark and a test... Of course we couldn't have the same results... Also I don't use Google now cause it isn't any help in my country.... Of course talk time has to do with drain that's why I'm gonna retest franco and trinity with lower talk time so you can see its SOT better.

I always use Trinity and faux... I don't like franco and elementalx is good kernel... All kernels as tou can see from the results are the same +/- in terms of battery life... But I like the support of the dev the features etc... If a dev don't have dedicated app I won't use it... Thats my way... You have to try many kernels and see what you like most.

My only suggestion might be, use each kernel for a week and compile results to help even out day to day inconsistencies.
Cheers
WR
Edit to add, unless that's what the title implies.
