Is it possible to port JB Camera to GB? - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I'm waiting for my phone to be delivered again (as it had a hardware malfunction, but the warranty covered it) and i'm planning to stick with GB... i'm tired of fighting with kernels, scripts and everything to make the phone work like it should. I want something that just works (sounding like an iOS fan, I know lol)
That's why i'm on a quest to bring some of the improvements of JB to GB. One of those improvements which i really liked was the camera. In JB you can zoom digitally, and also, very important to me, you can pause a video recording and then resume it. These features don't exist in GB Camera app.
Is there any way to make the JB camera work in GB????
Thank you very much in advance

Upgrading to JB is the only option left.....

Really? You know that for a fact or you're just saying?....
I mean, obviusly is a software issue, if people can port apps from 4.2.2 to 4.1.2, why can't I do the same with GB ? Is it because the system structure is so different in JB and GB ??

i agree about higher RAM load on JB.

Hello

Well, I'm an x8 user, I'm gonna change the phone in some months and wanna ask if i really should buy this device
I know too much about roms cuz well I'm developing one
I wanna ask you guys, should i use it in stock and then wait for official ics or stock roms suck?
Does this phone really need all the stuff to work smooth? I mean custom kernel, rom etc because well its dualcore phone and looks that in some post i read, my phone works better
Thanks

It's an awesome phone with cm7
well the stock rom it's not the best out there obviously... blatware apps, poor kernel make it a bad choice if you have alternatives.
for me, the best one is CM7, even better with a custom kernel like the Etana one. lots of tweaks and optimizations if you know what i mean

Hi leroy.
I will give you my personal unbiased opinion about it.
I bought the phone and it came with stock froyo (android 2.2). And I thought it was fine. I could play games with no problems at all. Didn't experience any of the problems that lots of people were complaining about (SoD, bad battery life, etc). I "test-drove" it for three weeks more or less, just to make sure everything was working fine, and it was.
And then I flashed temasek's latest kang and vadonka's latest kernel. And I do not regret it one bit. The phone is smoother, more responsive, and battery life is better by at least 25%. Unfortunately I did not do a quadrant benchmark before flashing, so I don't have a before and after comparison, but the phone "feels" much better, no doubts about it.

I tend to believe that what differs from phone to phone is the "bloatware" that carrier dependent phones have installed. I bought an unbranded phone, so I am guessing that is the main reason why I was such a happy customer to begin with, even with stock ROM. A stock unbranded ROM, I might add.

Sorry But i dont know what bloatware mean
sent from my x8 using TecnoBread
My definition of "bloatware" is basically crap software that your carrier (for example vodafone or movistar or whatever) preloads in your branded phone (phone sim locked to your carrier). This software is usually very bad software poorly developed that has memory leakage and drains your battery.
This might be a very biased opinion from me, but usually I like my operating systems to be as clean as possible, only with the software/applications I really need and use. This usually makes for a very fast, responsive and efficient system.

Well, so installing custom rom will replace craping software or just similar unlocking phone?
Also i have hear this is a great phone for developing, but why there's not too much moves as in our threads? Couldn't it be because the phone doesn't need too much developing?
Another question, will official ics fix that or i should upgrade to cm9?

Trust me, the devs for the O2X are awesome. They seriously do great jobs and even create miracles for this device. Just about a month ago, CM9 wasn't available. Many things didn't work, but now thanks to awesome guys like RC and Owain, they made it available to us.
If I were you I wouldn't wait do the official LG release. The GB release was way overdue. LG promised release dates they didn't met and I think this will also happen with ICS. LG said that they would release ICS during the 2nd quarter of this year. I bet that LG won't release it then but probably in 2013 .

I don't know if there is HDMI out or not in CM, because I've never used it while using CM, but it does work fine in MIUI.
And what do you mean by "8 MP is 6 MP"? I thought the resolution just stays the same. Either way, the stock camera app has been ported over to CM7 based roms, and it works just as good as in stock ROM.
Honestly, using MIUI (Wiui to be exact), the experience is alot better, and there is almost no feature sacrificed compared to stock

There are batteries you can buy with more capacity than the stock battery that comes with the phone.
However, I can easily get two day battery life with the stock battery, so personally I don't understand why so many people complain about their battery life. As far as I know it's about the same as other smart phones.

are the Jelly Bean Ports any faster than GB on the S1?

as the title says, are the jelly bean ports any faster than stock GB on the S1 (with lagfix)?
there are thousands of posts saying they work great but none i can find that compare them to stock GB roms?
anyone?
is it worth switching?
Why don't you try an ics Rom first?!

I know what u thinking. Latest stock gb roms are nice and have smooth browser, but cm9 is even better. I've tried JW7 after few months of using cm9 and quickly returned back
I can just tell you from my experience, that at least ICS is incomparably faster than stock GB... Since JB should be even faster due to project Butter I imagine it would easily outperform GB

why would i bother with an ICS rom when JB roms are almost fully working???
Thanks for the replies. My question is would JB be faster than stock GB roms even with the limited hardware (processor/ram)?
Obviously it would be a lot faster on the nexus but how does it perform on the S1?
My stock GB is working great now, except it takes ages to open apps etc, even with the lagfix.
ICS was super fast and smooth. I thought it couldn't be better. Spread a little butter, and flash some jellybean and it is unbelievable. I can seriously compare the smoothness to that of an iphone, and we havent even made it into an alpha jellybean release yet. Expect good things!

It is weird though. My antutu benchmark scores are terribly low, around 2600 instead of 3700. Even though my phone feels faster.
Possibly cause antutu is geared towards ICS, but either way, don't be alarmed at the low scores!

[Moving from stock]ICS ROM

So I'm using StockLite 7.1 and i'm pretty satisfied with it. But GB feeling a bit old, and ICS has some cool options stock that makes some apps on GB useless. I'm woundering on how having a ICS ROM will make my Ace better or worse?
I would like to know battery life/if ICS works FAST like GB on Ace/performance/bugs
And ofc, which is the best ICS ROM. (I would like the more near ICS STOCK possible so no bugs would be found)!
there are few ICS roms available in development section but all have almost same bugs and unstable..
bugs like..
camera not working fully
freq restarts
no wifi tethering
no hd videos playing
less battery backup
battery gets heated up soon etc..

Jelly Bean on I9000...why bother?

What are the benefits of installing JB on an i9000?
I'm aware the FM radio on JB doesn't work and some other function too....then, it seems that all the sleek design of the new ROM will slow CPU speed - surely, is it worth bothering to install the latest ROMs on near outdated smartphones like the i9000?
I've stumbled on the JW4 stock and represent a worthy alternative to Gingerbread 2.3 - then for the sleek look I'm considering some themes....
Have I missed some relevant facts about the JB 4.2 on the i9000? Right now, I wouldn't bother.

For as far as I know, Cyanogenmod never really got Project Butter off the ground on Samsung devices running Exynos processors, like the i9000. I'm running 4.1 Cyanogenmod as well, and it does seem a tad more smooth, but I've no idea if that's because of Project Butter, or just the fact that it's a very nice android version.
I've just tested JB 4.2....nice and sleek look but not Swipe and what happened to my external SD? no "My File" is found so I can't search...no wonder when I check Storage on Settings gives me an error. The Camera also seems very limited (have I missed something?).
Exactly as I initially thought....
All this hype to get the latest ROMs are mostly superficial fads with no substance - good only for greedy developers and bored teenagers in search of new trills to impress their mates - nah, I like using Swipe and FM radio (and searching my files) - back to JW4.

Yeah. They came up with a neat intuitive interface with 4.2 but stripped out so many features. Honestly who in the right mind thought it was a great idea to get rid of the timer option. I used the 4.2 camera for about a day before I just rolled back to the 4.1 camera
You're comparing a ROM that's barely even alpha. Try CM10 4.1.2 stable. That will give you a better idea of what cyanogenmod is capable of. And you can still install Swype. I'm using it right now.
And don't be a troll, it's not very nice

Try Mackay ROM or CM10. Both are stable and fluid and you will be happy with them. But if you don't even know how to install Swype you should probably stick to stock.

Android jelly bean is fantastic because it is faster and smoother. To solve the problem of radio you should download spirit fm radio light that is NOT a streaming app, but uses the FM radio receiver installed by Samsung on Galaxy.

in fact I've bothered to install swype by myself - never had to do before the "upgrade"?
An upgrade should include all the best functions - swype represents in my opinion the best way to input text - go figure why the developers forgot about it.

ok, if the FM radio isn't lost then this might save the bacon...the future is radio via data or podcasting but when traveling abroad it might be useful to use FM radio to save data roaming (and power too).
I've tested 4 new ROMs (in 2 days): aosp, aokp, xbean, cm10 - the camera has lost many functions - still, the Galaxy doesn't even offer a flash - so, no big deal there.
The JW4 I'm using right now seems faster than any of the JB tested, but I agree about the new ROMs being smoother and more stylish.
The DSP on offer might be worth upgrading...
There are too many new functions which are a bit too geeky and many customizations are a bit OTT (reminds me of some linux distros)...so, I might be tempted to opt for Slim Bean (jelly bean without the fat)....still, I'll wait a few months
no videocall facility
I belive the custom Roms not support videocall fascilty, (correct me,If I am wrong). But rest everything is OK in JB Roms.

But there are improvements in audio & video perfomance compare to Stock GB ROM.

Can JB camera save to external SD? Try saving HD video on limited 8 GB internal storage
U should try "c-rom Mix v8" or "mckay rom build158 or 161,in my opinion its the two best roms available in JB,in McKay's build there is a small difference in smoothness between the two builds..
C-rom v8 is my favorite,its d... good
Just Because...
Because we can. You, good sir, are asking the wrong question..LOL Why wouldn't you want the latest version of android on existing hardware? It is like having the best of both worlds. New Software, same phone.
Imagine putting windows 8 on a 486, and having it run smoothly. That will never happen.... with android on the other hand... okay, perhaps a little exaggeration there, but you get the idea. (Unless you are to young to remember a 486,)
For me personally, it negates the need to buy a $500 - $600 phone, just to have the latest version of software.
I do however, understand your point of view. I hope that I have answered your question thoroughly.
My swype on 4.2.1 works fine. I do have an sdcard 0/1 bug. I consider that perfectly acceptable, in this scenario.
Panorama camera feature is neat. Although it is not something that I can see myself using a whole lot.

I think the choice belongs to everyone to flash JB...or not.
I tried but i'am back on GB with the sauRom V2. The BEST rom ever flashed on my phone ! ! !
I have tried Miui, Cyanogen, Ics, JB...... None of those roms compares to SauRom in my opinion.
Really worth a try ! Smooth, fast, stable, Very good battery life ! !
Since i'am using it, no need to flash anymore !

JB drains battery so fast!
My experience, the battery drains so so fast. I tried some ROMS with JB and I went back to ICS.

Why is the stock experience so bad.

I was playing with the phone, thought of losing everything, the root, the awesome CoCore kernel and everything else.
I switched back to the Stock DDULP8 firmware and thought to play with it for a few days. And dear lord the performance and the entire experience was horrible, even Doodle Jump was lagging. What did Samsung do wrong? I thought maybe I should give Software Update a try, maybe Samsung might have released something to fix all the UI glitches and poor performance the firmware offers. It said, "The latest updates have already been installed".
We are people who know stuff, we can get rid of all these issues by rooting, freezing apps and installing custom kernels. But what about a rookie user? He will cry after purchasing this phone.
I don't even know why I am creating this thread.
When you buy the phone you get stock GB and that doesnt lag as much as Stock JB. The reason it lags is those crap samsung bloatware.

Yeah, it looks like Kernel problem.
U cant feel like normal user once u know how to root and mod it...thats the fact u feel it lag a lot
Its different if u did not know anything about root or whatsoever, u will like it lag
For example, just around me...specially a girl user, they use it like its running on turbo mode even its not coz they did not feel what is after root and mod phone are...correct?
For u, just use the mod one that suit u best and dont use stock
As for me, i like stock with little mods...

And sometimes when I pressed the settings I could watch the tv, waiting for the settings to open
But since I already knew about cocore while browsing on xda
But even today i'm not satisfied with my battery experience so I'm trying different version of jb or maybe I should try gb since I never used it
Or in last case buy a l3 ii which has a longer battery life
Actually knowing that stuff doesn't help much, performance is still quite bad.
What bothers me are those who give you false hope that custom stuff can fix it, so you spend a lot of time learning how to install them, but then realize it's all BS.

I do not agree.... even removing bloatware the phone still sucks with stock JB. JB is just badly optimized for the hardware i think (cause the hardware is certainly up to the task of running JB smoothly)

i'm very pleased with my phone and there is no lag, although battery could still be a bit better. I've changed few roms and kernels, and they all worked pretty well. even stock JB was ok, after factory reset and wiping everything...

Yes I am satisfied too. I would not recommend this phone to a person who doesn't know anything about rooting :good:

a touch of android's experience & good rom & good kernel = really good SGSA with ok battery life (up to 5 days with LightJB CoCore 6.8...)

I would recommend this phone to someone who lives in Italy or India
Since those are the best firms right now
And I'm using lqg right now and there is no lag and battery very good without cocore
