Galaxy S stuck on custom rom logo - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI, so recently i brought a galaxy s gt i9000. I wanted to flash a custom rom so I install cwm and now have root access. problem is whenever i try to install a custom rom it shows the bar for installation in CWM and then goes to the custom rom logo. It does nothing else whatsoever after that. I need to take out my battery and restore my backup in order to get my phone working again from a bootloop. i tried putting the rom in both my external sd card and the phone itself. Also before installing i wiped the dalvik cache etc. Can someone please help, i've tried multiple roms so its obviously my phone. thanks
details:
Running JW4 firmware
android gingerbread 2.3.6

i9000 stucks in logo because your phone is not acessing internel memory...i have also got this problem..i dont have any solution..one thing u can do is that take your phone in download mode for 2 to 3 minutes approximately and then again on your phone ...this will work...But this problem comes again when u shutdown your mobile..another method is to take your i9000 in download mode and connect to computer and then download dbdata.rfs file put in odin in pda and apply ...these two processess will definately work fine to acess your internal memory

Just a few questions regarding how you installed the rom.
1.) What rom, first of all?
2.) After rooting 2.3.6 and trying to flash through recovery, did the phone skip to the kernel screen before continuously bootlooping?
3.) Did you try pulling your battery, then putting it back in, entering recovery and flashing the same rom again?

The problem i have is that the rom doesnt even install. Also if the phone can't access my internal memory then how can it find the rom? thanks

Then simply put your mobile in download mode and install stock rom value pack XJJW1 2.3.6 via odin..your problem will be fixed.

Can not flash CWM :(

Hi I'm trying to install miui for my sister in law on her Galaxy S but I can't seem to install CWM.
I've downloaded rom manager from the market clicked on flash recovery (fist option) then from the list chose samsung galaxy s. The next I clicked on reboot to recovery but when it boots into it, it says at the top Android system recovery (3e)
What am I doing wrong???? :s
PS I don't have a memory card inside my phone trying to install via the internal sd storage. The also I don't have access to my pc so need to do it off my phone. Please any help appreciated thank you.

When you boot into recovery press the buttons a couple of times. Ie, 3button combo to boot, release all the buttons and press the 3buttons again. I have had the same problems on 3sgs's and this seemed to work on them.
No luck
Any one else have any ideas. Please any help is appreciated.

I have clockworkmod recovery installed and when i click on reboot to recovery or use the 3 button configuration it only boots into the android system recovery.
I can not for the life of me get the Cwm recovery to boot up.
Is there a kernel I can flash with rom manager to get cwm installed
Sent from my GT-I9100
It's definitely rooted? What rom is it currently on?

Darkys rom. Plus i have titanium backup installed and backed up my apps. Superuser is working perfectly.
I want to install miui the official rom.
Anyway I can without having to use a pc??
Sent from my GT-I9100
If it's on Darky's rom, it should have cwm already! Not sure if you can do it from your phone now mate.
Once you've got the cwm sorted (hopefully it's a gingerbread rom) you need to format system, data and cache, then flash Miui.

Ahhh.
Flash darky RE via Odin. But if you are running darky kernel you should have cwm. Uninstall cwm app and try again.

If i understand well, you can't use odin because you don't have PC,right? Well:make sure that your phone is rooted. Go to market and get that application : "sgs kernel flashar " the one by neldar.
Then download a kernel for your firmware, and make sure you download a tar file or obtain a zimage file. Flash it with the application mentioned, you don't need any cwm. After that you flash the new kernel you should have a cwm installed.
If i understand wrong I'm sorry.

Simply flash again with ODIN a stock Firmware, Root it and flash the ROM you want ??
Yes, flash stock with odin, or simply go into recovery wipe cache, go into mounts and wipe system, datadata, & data and try to reflash. If it does not work you should flash stock with odin and tripple check that you got the right files for your phone

GT i9000 boot screen logo on Captivate :s

hi everyone, my problem is that I was trying to instal ClockWorkMod recovery to my CAPTIVATE with Odin3. [Android + SLP], and it looks like i¨ve put an incorrect version of CWM to my captivate, first of all when I turn on the phone the AT&T screen appears, then, a SAMSUNG GT i9000 comes! when actually what I have is a CAPTIVATE. Second of all when I go to recovery mode, the letters are GREEN, and is suppose to be BLUE,
and the version of CWM is ¨Clockworkmod Recovery v2.5.1.0 SpeedMod Kernel¨....now I can not go into DOWNLOADING MODE to put the right version of CWM. i´ve tried all ways to get into Downloading mode, and nothing works, because soon as I put the battery back to the phone it gets ON and there´s no time to try any of the Bottom combos (combinations). I hope you guys help me, thanks!!
That cwm is fine to use to flash ur Rom of choice. U may need the gb bootloaders though, depending on what u wanna flash.

ok, what I want to flash is a new ROM, this one: WeUI_v1.0_by_NightShack0 , im going to use another phone to put the rom in the SD card to try if I can flash the Rom with this CWM.

Soft bricked and need help

ok so i obviously didnt think things though before doing this, i have an I9000 which was on GB 2.3.4. i decided to flash semaphore's 2.9.0 kernel and i tried installing nightly's Cm 10.1 rom on my device but to no avail as i keep receiving status 0. now i thought it was a bad download but it wasnt as i was able to extract the zip file without any problems, i then proceeded to download other roms as well to try to see if i could install any of it. im already up 8 hours and i still can seem to install anything on it.. worst thing is i've forgotten what baseband i was on so im stuck with an unusable phone. are there any solutions to this?
You can try to go back to GB via Odin.

is there like a universal rom that i can go back to ? im kinda a noob with flashing samsung roms haha. and i've tried flashing a jw4 stock rom but it doesnt allow me to partition my sd card. and once im done flashing the screen just shows a bunch of messed up colours and then i get into a bootloop.
I always follow this link whenever I want to go back to GB and I don't experience any problem:

Be sure your phone is recognized by your PC. If not, you can install the USB drivers.
Here is a link for the USB drivers:

From GB Rom, you can decide to upgrade to ICS, then to JB.
But the important thing first is to make your phone running in GB with all features functioning normally.
Good luck.
the GB link is broken; well i managed to install a copy of JW4 BB running on 2.3.6 but wifi and physical home button is broken. from there i proceeded to flash with odin a Cm9 kernel, and did a full wipe and everything and then installed a nightly's cm9.1 rom. Problem is it installs successfully but it doesnt boot into the rom, instead it goes back into CWM after reboot.

So i managed to flash CM9.1 and got it to boot, but the home button and the soft press buttons are not working. in addition, phone automatically goes to landscape when i enter settings.
I don't know why link was broken. Can you try again with this link:

It should work well on your phone. You can use this as base in case you want to upgrade to ICS then to JB.
Device: GT-i9000
Rom: JB 4.2.1 C-RoM BeaN v2
Kernel: Mackay 0.230
Baseband: I9000BVJJPG
i appreciate your help but the download link leads to me an ad which then just prompts to download a software called ilividsetup.exe. Are there any other links to download that rom? so sorry for the trouble
The rar file seems already removed or the link is down. Sorry about that.

yeah i did. I am able to go back to stock JW4 but I cant go any further than 2.3.6. every single rom that i install only leads to me to a loop back to CWM. so far i've only managed to install nightly's CM9.1 and even that is pretty much unusable for me because soft press buttons and home button doesnt seem to work. looks like im stuck on 2.3.6

Yeah, I have noticed that. All of the firmware links to fileshare sites take you to some other place where you are prompted to download a program called 'download manager'. What's all that about? Anyone know?
After you install the ROM, it just boots back to CWM, right? I had encountered similar problem, unfortunately I do not know if it's thr same. I installed the ROM through CWM, phone booted into CWM based CM10 recovery. Nothing more. Then, I fully wiped the phone again and installed the rom the second time. Then gapps and vuola!

You will need to flash the ROM twice when flashing CM10 as it uses a different partition layout.

Yeah when you first install the ROM via cwm it will reboot itself once especially if youre on an older version of cwm. Thing is I've flashed the ROM 3 times and it still does the same thing which is rebooting itself into cwm. I've just exchanged a new device with the shop I bought it from and I don't think I'm gonna do anything with it anymore and just let it stay on the ROM its on. Though I'm curious about one thing, I managed to get to cm9.1 but the home buttons and the soft press buttons don't work At all. Any idea as to why that happened ?
btw it comes with a preinstalled lidroid rom which is 2.3.4. and its pre rooted; its BB is I9000ZSJPJ, are there any roms out there for this BB?

Keeps rebooting to cwm after installing CM

Here is what I did with the phone:
- Flashed JVU via odin
- Flashed CF-Root with CWM via odin
- Wipe EVERYTHING
- Flashed semaphore kernel for 4.3 via CWM
- Rebooted to CWM
- Flashed CM 10.2 stable via CWM
- Flashed semaphore again
- Flashed gapps
And now the phone keeps rebooting to CWM everytime I power it on. It never goes to Android, it always boots to CWM. Any ideas?
Of course, i tried to flash CM / semaphore / gapps again but it keeps doing the same. Flashing only CM does not work either

What do you mean exactly? ;_;
By the way it seems to work after flashing a samsung stock ROM but it does the same everytime I try to install CM. And I have done it before, I don't understand this ;_; (I decided to start over again because I was having trouble to downgrade from 4.4)
Have you find a solution? I faced the same problem and after reading half of the day on this forum I managed to find a solution to go back to stock and restore the phone functionality. Now I only have to flash CWM/TWRP and start to flash custom ROMs again
Let me know if you still need help.
The correct procedure to come to any ROM is from GB>ICS>JB>KK. So make sure that you are following the correct procedure
