I have received my HTC One today. Everything goes well until I plug it into my computer (Windows 7) only to find that it shows as "HTC One" under "Portable Devices" in "Computer". Copying files by this this really suks. It is very buggy, slow, and is not compatible with some of file manager including Beyond Compare. So how to mount the internal storage as a "Removable Storage"?
Nobody knows?

So what ROM are you using? I can't find settings about it in my ViperOne with ElementalX.
Can we mount the phone as an external drive on Mac OS X? I've tried but it doesn't show up
I'm not a huge fan of AirDroid for transferring files!

Has anyone had any issues with apps using the internal storage instead of the sd card? Any app I download it uses my internal storage to save. How do I change this so out users my external automatically?

Yea I'm having the same phucking problem and I'm totally fed up with it. I'm about ready to return this POS because Motorola in their phucking infinite wisdom decided to partition the internal memory the way only an idiot would
Wtf? Are you freaking serious Moto? For real. I'd like to meet the idiot who's idea it was to come up with this.
Now we are all limited to a non removable 8gb SD card basically. I can piss 8gb. Where do I freaking put my music Motorola you dumb asses?
Every app I've installed and wanted to use can not have the default location for music changed. So I'm stuck with this tiny ass partition, and an empty 32gb card.
Why the hell even include an External SD card Motorola, why. Its useless

Download App2SD from the market. You can move almost all the apps to the SD card.

I noticed this too when I installed the Amazon MP3 store although If you create a file on the External SD card and manually move your files there the music app will see it and play it from there. You can alse mount the phone on your computer and manually move them or use Astro File Manager to move them on the phone. It does suck though to have to jump through those hoops. Why you can't just change the default location is ludicrous.
Obviously, you guys got your Bionic very very recently.
DO NOT TRANSFER APPS TO SDCARD. IF YOU DO, YOU WILL LOSE THE APPS AND YOU NEED TO REINSTALL THEM!
MOTO configured Bionic differently (stupid!), and forces all apps to be installed in internal memory.
However, you can still save your media files on the external sdcard.
p.s. Don't use APP2SD on Bionic.
Why is their a better app? Is their a fix

You can use the program to move apps to the media area without issue. As for moving them to the microSD, it won't let you do that, even with root. So, I'm not sure what the fuss is about?

When your phone boots up, it fails to properly recognize apps saved to the media area.
To prevent it, just keep all your apps saved to phone until an OTA arrives addressing it.
Search the forums for disappearing apps to get filled in.
OK I thought the media area was the SD card. But I still haven't had a problem with the apps disappearing.

Neither have I, and I've been using it for almost a week. FWIW, I haven't seen any of the reports of this problem mention Gingerbread or the Bionic. Not saying it can't happen, but I think app updates have fixed the problem.
UPDATED: Been losing apps left and right today. This isn't an APP2SD issue, but a Bionic issue stemming from the way those tards at MOT decided to partition the internal storage. Why do companies do stupid crap like this?
While I was playing around with my lapdock I discovered something intersting.
I was installing some apk files from my back and discovered that my lapdock had several partitions mounted which started with "com."
It didn't take me long to realize that they were the programs moved to my media area.
They apeared as Ian drives and couldn't be innounted.
I devices to test out a suspicion and restarted only to find that those apparatus disappeared.
After some more testing I realized that by moving the files on the phone between the storage and phone until it no longer loads that app as a drive, then that app won't disappear when the phone is powered off or rebooted.
I know that not everyone has a lapdock to get around the disapearing apps, but this is a temporary solution until a fix is actually released.

i'm so confused about this, i had noticed when i loaded my sd card nothing was getting recognized like widget locker themes stuff like that. then i notice that everything is getting downloaded to the internal memory. i went into settings> storage and changed download location to sd card, but everything is still downloading to internal memory. i just don't understand why it isn't looking at my sd card automatically like all of my other phones did, droid x, t-bolt, og. it's driving me effing crazy though. can someone maybe explain in dummy terms what is going on?

Look at it like this...
Your phone has 16GB of internal memory.
4GB you never see. The system uses that 4GB
8GB is read as internal storage. Motorola designed that for media. That means your videos, pictures and documents.
4GB is for apps. This is where it gets complicated. These 4GB is dedicated to your apps. It was designed to be unintrusive with your main partition.
You shouldn't have to move to SD. Not needed.
Some wishets will only be recognized when the app is on your phone partition.
Does this answered your question?

Just go into "settings, applications, manage applications" and click the "media area" tab. Any apps that have a "check mark" in them are stored to what is called the "media area." If it reads "com.*" then it has already been uninstalled. Just go reinstall it. Then go in there and all the apps with the check mark... click on the app, and then click the "move to phone" button. Wait a few seconds while it transfers it.
Sadly this is annoying and also sometimes makes the market think that the apps are not installed.
Freaking Motorola. They make such good hardware, it's a pity they put such crap inside.
I had nook 1.3 stock then I installed manualnooter-4-5-18, after that installed cm-7.2.0-encore on it. I didn't clear any cash nor formatted any partition. Now it boots up correctly but there are some issues:
1- PC can't read SD and internal storage and shows to empty Removable Drives. So I can't copy new apks into it.
2- Why Camera and Messaging applications are present on my nook which doesn't have does capabilities?
3- The process com.android.settings stop when I click on CyanogenMod settings.
BTW captchas are really hard to read.

When coming from stock to CM7, you really need to do a factory reset (via CWM) either before or after putting CM7 on. There are too many incompatibilites between the two. That is why you are getting the errors.
Camera and messaging apps are sometimes necessary before some apps will install, even if not used.

Don't understand sorry. But I think I did something wrong like asking questions instead of searching or vague questions? I just can't access SD and internal storage of my Nook from PC.

Got it working. Just took a while for Google to update. Thanks anyway.

Oh, from the PC. I thought you meant you could not see them on the nook. Probably the reason you cannot see them is you have not turned them on. It is not automatic like stock. After you plug in the USB cable and the removable drives show, pull down the notification area on the nook and select turn on computer access. That will make the removable drives change to show your sdcard and emmc. Or you can use a program from my tips thread called NookColorUMS.

The notification area is supposed to be behind the status bar. You need to take your finger and drag from the bottom to get to show. You should see the bar to push then. Then you drag it back down when finished.
I just tried to transfer files from my PC (Win7) via USB MTP onto my Nexus7 which seemed to work as usual. When I tried to locate them on the tablet, I noticed that the complete /sdcard folder is still there, but empty. Also the /storage/sdcard0 and /storage/emulated.
This actually happend the second time, but the first time I just had updated to 4.2.1 and I thought I must've missed some instructions about backing up the files first, so I (falsely) assumed it was my error.
The device is the 16gb wifi only version running current android 4.2, it's been rooted after purchase in summer using Nexus Root Toolkit 1.5.3. I just use the usual popular play store apps like nova launcher, total commander, firefox and stuff, nothing special.
I couldn't find anyone on the internet with a similar issue, so I put this here.
//edit1: I have only one user set up: me alias the owner.

I fail to see how that should affect why I don't "see" my files anymore. I haven't switched the user, I only have one: the owner. May you please make your point more clear?
You can alter where things are stored. Have you connected back to pc to search tab that way. Check storeage settings did you use ptp or mtp for transfer

I used MTP. The tablet looks empty from "within" via Totalcommander & EStrong Filemanager. Also other apps like music don't see my files. Storage shows suspiciously much free space, I guess it's really gone. From PC it looks the same, completely wiped. It recreated the /sdcard/Android-Folder, and the Apps I've used since recreated their folders... I can't find where you meant I could alter where things are stored. Storage just let's me delete stuff and users just let's me edit the away-message.
Thanks anyway so far.

Dumb question but...
How to set USB mass storage in 4.0.4?
Having problems finding out how.
Tried with debugging off and on.
Didn't see how in any menus.
Box of rocks.
Please see second reply for corrected answer.
What?
You have to go through this just to copy a file or two from PC to external SD card.
I'll just take the card out.
Don't have to do it very often.
Thanks for replying.
Re: Please help me
Sorry. Misunderstood. Just pull down the notification window, hit the "connected as..." thing and you can switch from there. If it doesn't work, than you need newer drivers.
They sure hid that well.
Now, if I could only remember how to mark it solved.
Thank you,
dlw
You might also consider the samba filesharing app. It sets up your sd card so you can browse to it like a windows file share.

Mass storage is not available in CM10 or CM11. It uses a protocol called MTP. It shows up in windows explorer in the left pane below the drive letters.
