Now some may ask why I would want to do this? Well I watched a few video reviews on the Captivate, and I noticed their camera software was different, the menus were layed out differently, and honestly they are better organized.
You can switch scene modes with a button on the left side instead of drilling down into settings>page 2>scenes
The video recording is much better, it actually records as soon as you press the button instead of having to wait a few seconds before it starts recording. It also stops as soon as you hit stop with no delay or lag like there was on the stock software.
Overall I think it improves an already awesome camera.
Still has all the same camera modes and scene modes as the vibrant, so you won't be losing anything by flashing this
Installation:
Copy zip to internal SD
Reboot into Clockwork MOD recovery
Flash zip
Reboot and Enjoy!
EDIT: Added the Camera-Stock-signed.zip if you want to revert back to the original software
EDIT2: Tested out the Odexed build on a deodexed ROM, wasn't throwing any errors on flash, so I just simplified both zips into 1 zip. So flash away!
Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wcCb6tbzY8 (Sorry for the blurry cam will update it shortly)
THANK YOU!
This is really a simple, awesome addition/mod to the phone, should have been the default camera app!
cheers.
Thanks for this! Definitely, quicker and more usable. Everything seems to work as advertised. Good catch!
Anyone have the stock app? I flashed this thinking I'd like it but for some reason I prefer the stock one. I'd greatly appreciate either another flashable ZIP or just the Camera.apk file.

Updated the first post, look in the attachments, there's a zip to flash back to the stock Camera app
Are we to flash both zip files or which one? There is an odexed one and a deodexed one.

if you are running a stock rom or other non deodexed rom, flash the odexed one, otherwise if you are running Vibrant4, or anomalous3's rom, flash the deodexed one.
EDIT: When in doubt, flash the Odexed one, if an error comes up during flash, that means you have a deodexed ROM and you should use the other one. If you try the deodexed one first, you will get no errors on install, but you will get force closes when using the camera.
EDIT2: Turns out the Odexed build which looks for 2 files that dont exsist on a deodexed build doesn't throw any errors anyways, so I'm just going to use that as the main update. removed the confusion of having 2 different updates
Thanks for the info. Its been a while since I've gone gungho mod crazy on my phone and I seem to have forgotten all of the lingo.
Thanks for the app and I will give it a try.
Working great. Thanks for this. Was missing the quick setting drawer thingy-ma-bob coming from a MT3GS.
Very cool. Good work
Thanks alot for this! I like it alot!
Seems to work
Ill leave feed back when i test it in the wild
Thanks for your work
Thanks a lot!
For me it was very buggy when I first launched it. Almost seemed to FC, but it kinda just went black.
After I relaunched the app it worked very well.
Thanks for Sharing.
I had messed with a friend's Captivate before I got my Vibrant and wondered why the camera was set up so weird compared to the Captivate.
Awesome mod, thanks OP. Works well on my Vibrant.
Thx for the mod but I really like the vibrant camera better my friend has a captivate and I don't care for his cam but hay everyone is different so thx I don't have any issues with my cam so I'd say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Its cool to see this work on the vibrant though.

I'd like to see that too. The video in the OP looks a lot like the camera app in my I9000. What did they do for the Vibrant?
EDIT: as of cm7 0506 nightly, nearly all camera issues are are resolved. read my post on cm forums for details.
hello everybody,
i seem to have a similar problem as kroat999 posted in this thread, as my back camera is showing a lot of red lines/dashes throughout the viewer area.
also, the pictures take look like this, seems like the file was saved before the camera chip finished capturing.
i'm using cm7-nightly from 03/18 and platypus kernel from 03/22 (from the thread mentioned above). this definitely didn't happen with stock firmware 2 days ago, i haven't tried the cam with the default cm7-kernel.
any ideas or suggestions?
btw: viewer image of the ffc looks ok, but is tilted by 90°.

Hi kwantenmechaniker,
did this problem with the picture also happen with earlier kernels (from 21st or earlier ?)
the vertical (or horizontal) red lines are a known problem right now
but should only be an aesthetic issue - with the taken picture they're not present anymore
so it's probably an camera overlay or camera driver problem
sorry - I took several pictures and couldn't reproduce your truncated picture
yes, I noticed the 90° (clockwise) rotated picture, too
others get this with bilboa1's kernel also - so it's an upstream problem
you could try one thing:
make a nandroid backup then do a factory reset/wipe and see if that "fixes" it
if not you have a backup to restore
currently I'm out of ideas what might cause this

yes, it was the same with the 03/04 and 03/21 kernel. it's possibly a cm7 problem, but noone else seems to suffer from it...

thanks, i'll try this as soon the battery is fully charged again.
the factory reset didn't solve the problem, i guess i'll try a complete system/data/cache reformat and install the complete platypus-cm7-package.
i'll check back in the evening when i have the time to do this.
btw: i had 2 random reboots with this kernel so far, one during a phone call, the other one while using xda-app.
Make that 3 reboots. Just had one while starting the browser.

gonna post it on cm forum, maybe someone there knows how to fix this.

Samsung Vibrant Front Facing Camera Modification
for CyanogenMod 10
For people with the FFC mod on the Vibrant, this is a CWM flashable ZIP that will work with the latest CM10 nightlies to enable FFC support.
Requirements
Samsung Vibrant, Model SGH-T959
Front Facing Camera hardware modification: Replace the internal phone camera with a i9000 camera
An AOSP JB ROM post-data/system partition swap (details about how to tell below)
Instructions
Copy file to SD card
Reboot into recovery
(Optional) Flash the ROM zip if you are upgrading to a newer ROM
Flash this ZIP
Reboot
Open up camera app. If it worked you will have a button just above the zoom slider to switch between front and rear cameras.
Compatible ROMs
- CyanogenMod 10 Nightly Builds 20120927 and later
- Helly Bean ??? and after
Non-Compatible ROMs
These ROMs do not work with this zip. If you are using any of these you may try using the CM9 files available here.
- CyanogenMod 10 20120926 or earlier
- Helly Bean ??? or earlier
If you have tested a ROM and would like to add it to the list please reply below!
How do I know if my ROM has the system/data partitions swapped?
Open up a shell, through ADB, Terminal Emulator, Connectbot, etc. Type the command
Code:
mount
and hit enter. Look for the line that mentions /system (it's a lot of jumble, I know! It's in there.) If you have the swap (and therefore are able to use this zip, you should see a line that look like this:
Code:
/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system ext4 rw,nodev,noatime, . . . . .
If you do not see mmcblk0p2 next to /system this mod is not for you! The non-compatible ROMs will say mtdblock2 next to system.

Different. If you try the CM9 FFC files you're gonna have a bad time.
OK reason I asked is because I have always used the cm9 without a problem on jb. Well, I never actually USED it in months but I am able to switch back and forth. I'll try this one out though

The old one would likely have worked on CM10 up until recently, since any changes to camera were pretty minor between ICS and JB. However, with the recent system/data partition switcheroo the old zip could potentially screw things up.

Unfortunately it did not work with the Helly Bean 817 version of CM10. Can someone send a couple of screenshots of the what the camera screen is supposed to look like? I have a compass-like icon in the upper left corner, but when I tap it - I just get a focus setting at that point. Never have fired up the FFC and don't know if it was DOA or not. Thanks.

dont think cm's camera has that option enabled yet. you may try few things, like using iodak's ported stock camera app for aosp roms, or extracting the gallery2.apk file from a rom which has "save to external sd card" option in their camera (probably all 4.2.2, 4.3 and some 4.4 roms)
I dont see that option to store pictutes, too. I use DSLR Camera

On Vanir but...
it's the same for me. Ever since moving from Vanir 4.3.x to Vanir 4.4.x. At first I thought it was just an omission in the cam settings, but since then I've encountered a few strange things that led me to believe it wasn't (just) an omission in the settings. I use FTPServer usually to transfer stuff from PC to ext SD and it too can't write to external SD, then I went and tried with ES File Explorer and RootExplorer - all same. This all seems to me as it's an permissions (mounting?) problem and, since I see now it's not specific to Vanir, I'm inclined to conclude it's got something to do with KitKat itself. I'm going to try and find a solution, if I do, I'll bring it back home (here). Beware, I'm a total noob Android-wise, so if anyone who knows better sees this thread, please help.
EDIT 1: Damn, I'm a new user, so I can't post external links. I'll try and "describe" it.
It's at world wide web dot androidauthority dot com slash galaxy-s4-gpe-android-4-3-sd-card-fix-254960 slash
It seems to me that could be/lead to a solution to our problems. Will investigate and update.

our external sd card isn't mounted as writable by default in kitkat. danny1990 has a fix in beanstalk topic, you gotta change permissions.xml file, really easy to do. the important thing is if there is an *option* inside camera app to save to sd-ext (if there is, your pictures will turn out corrupted untill you fix permissions.xml)
edit:
yeah, it's platform.xml, and the fix is the same as the one in that article.
Thanks
Yeah, I've just "fixed" the permissions in platform.xml and all the file explorers and the ftp server now work as before. Unfortunately, the cam app still doesn't have "choose storage location" option; it's obviously left out in the app. Thanks for your help, mate.
Also, if there's anyone on the new Vanir Nightly, did your cam app start lagging like crazy on the last two nigthlies? On 011714 and 011814 my cam is unusable. What's it like for you on CM? It takes about 20 seconds from "button press" to it taking the photo. Everything else in the cam app works without lag (focusing, change of focal point, settings, switching to gallery, between gallery and cam-view, between taken pictures... I'm to new to post in the development section, so if there's anyone that has a simmilar experience with our cam app on the latest nigthtlies, it'd be very nice if he/she'd post it in the Vanir thread. Thanks

try grabbing gallery2.apk from beanstalk, and using it in your vanir nightly; beanstalk build has a camera that supports choosing of storage location.
also, does the lag you get from camera happen only when you manually focus, or even when you just press shutter without manually focusing?

Thanks. Will look into it. (I've never disassembled an Android ROM, so I don't know what I'll find in the zip, but I'll gladly read up on it and learn).
EDIT: Tried the gallery2.apk from beanstalk, no changes. The option for storage location doesn't appear. Tried installing camera2.apk from the same ROM, but got denied with something like "the same apk already installed, conflicting signatures". There's also no change in camera lag.

Unfortunately it happens no matter what I do / how I take a photo (I've just tried doing it without focusing manually.). About 15-20 second lag. Also, I've just noticed that it doesn't record video. When I press the "rec" button, the timer starts counting, but the display freezes (not the whole display, but the "live action display" (displays what you're recording) and when I stop the recording after about 30 seconds, nothing is saved.
EDIT: I've also noticed that Instagram (unlike foursquare, whatsapp & facebook, which obviously use the "stock" cam app) takes photos in normal time frame, but that it also doesn't save the video. I press&hold to record, when I release, there's nothing recorded.
Hmmm, maybe official cm11 team derped sth in last nightlies. And my bad, you meed camera2.apk,not the gallery one, but first you must delete your original camera2.apk, then put beanstalks camera2.apk in system/app and set permissions like other apks have, and reboot. This is screenshot of beanstalks camera settings, notice the location is set as sd card.
Thanks. Will try that as soon as I'm done with work stuff... Maybe the Beanstalk cam helps. Thanks again

Done as you've said, now both the front camera (that doesn't work in latest three Vanir nightlies - 19,18,17) and the "main" camera work. The lag isn't present when automatically focusing, but presents itself when using manual focus (manual focal point selection). Also, it now saves to external sd.
The video still freezes after a couple of seconds, the timer continues counting, but no video saved.
Thanks a lot for your help. I'll try and learn about logging and reporting bugs to the devs... give, what little I have to give, back to the guys who spend their precious time and brainpower for all of us. See you around.

lag is present in manual focus, yeah, hopefully that'll be fixed soon. if you don't want to bother, install iodak's ported official camera, it has working manual focus, and it also has save to external sd option. check themes&apps subforum.
video isn't working yet on roms based on unofficial cm11, and vanir official (like omni official, and slimkat (un)official) is based on our unofficial cm11 sources ^^
if you really really need video, try cyanfox or official cm11 nightlies, they have working camera, but at the cost of lower performance and some other bugs
devs already know about the issue we have with camera, so no need to report it (you can check cm11 unofficial/omnirom threads for updates about camera problems). good luck and enjoy :good:

OK so I love the new Google camera but can't access settings on any ROMs( Tested on omni4.4 as well as aosp).
Was searching for some solution and found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52367287
Take a look at #670. Followed manual procedures but couldn't get it to work. Any suggestions to port solution to our phone???
