Hi all,
I have finally moved from my N1 to HTC One.
currently i'm on the HTC one stock 4.1.2 German Vodaphone ROM.
i want to record all my calls on it (i live in a different country that it's allowed here), I tried few apps but nothing worked well for recording both sides of the call. can someone suggest an app that will work well for me and share his "best practice" settings for it please?
another question, because the 4.2.2 is being out now on OTA for unlocked devices, i wanted to know how do i check if my boot loader is unlocked or not?
in addition, i saw that i have ADB access to the device and i'm curious if it will help me get the OTA update if i will only change my CID for HTC_001 for example but without rooting or anything like it? i'm not sure that it's possible to do that this way but i don't want to root or play to much with my device for now (i know most of that stuff from the N1, had 4.2.2 on it but never played with CID on it )
would appreciate your help

Hi Guys, After research I found conflicting answers, so created the thread.
My friend received a used Nexus1 with Froyo already installed. Can He unlock the bootloader and root the phone? When He turns on the phone, their is no ''unlock'' symbol at the bottom. Why Google has not patched the bootloader and rooting procedure in the Froyo firmware? like Apple, everytime their is new firmware update, the jailbreak is lost and the device becomes secure.
Can the stock apps like Amazon Mp3 store can be removed without rooting N1? Also, can N1 be Unrooted like HTC Desire for warranty purpose?
Thanks in advance.
Once the bootloader is unlocked, the phone remains unlocked unless it's sent to HTC service centre for repairs etc.
Thus, there's no need for you to unlock it again. Android is different from apple in the sense that, Google WANTS you to do whatever you want to your phone as long as you're aware of what you're doing.
For your other question, refer to

About a week ago I received notification to update to ICS. After downloading the file and the phone upgrading it get locked into a boot loop, then after about 14 hours it finally escapes form the loop and starts up only to have the SIM not get recognized, I tried restoring to factory default but it didn't work... I then sent the phone to Bell to get repaired but now they are asking for $200 to fix the phone as apparently the bootloader was unlocked and voided warranty.
As you can guess I'm saying "screw you" to that and trying to fix myself... I'm not experienced with android and when I originally upgraded I didn't back up my original software so i have nothing to restore... So basically right now I am wondering what I should do... the phone is being returned to me not repaired and I want to fix this but don't have the knowledge how to... I'm not dumb when it comes to unlocking phones as I used to unlock old Nokia's and jailbreak iPhones but I have no idea when it comes to Androids.
I'm guessing I will need to try and find an official ROM for this but Bell canada isn't the most open with their OEM software so I was wondering if anyone could help in this area by providing a ROM I could use... secondly I guess I will need to S-off my device in order to install the software?
I have searched the forum to find somethings that may be relevant to what I'm trying to do... but I'm getting confused as to what i should do (The curse of being a Noob)
Any info would be great... thanks

Quick summary: you have to be totally stock (relocked bootloader, unrooted, S-ON) to run the update to ICS via Bell.
Thanks... will give it a look through and see if I can recover this way.
Hi - so I recently installed AR HD 11.5, but I'm wondering now that I've done that is there any compelling reason to re-lock the bootloader? What about un-rooting... any reason to do that after I've done what I needed to whilst being rooted?
Finally, a couple of noobish questions... 1) what's the difference between unlocking the bootloader & S-ON/S-OFF? I guess I was thinking they were one and the same thing, but some of the reading I've done imply they are in fact different things. If someone could please provide a brief explanation I would appreciate it. 2) why are some people concerned about being able to flash the latest OTA update if they have a custom ROM installed? I mean, won't any custom ROM pretty quickly catch up or even surpass the latest available OTA update? For example, that's one of the reasons I chose to go with AR HD because it's already using 4.2.2 instead of 4.1.2 that came with my phone.
Thanks in advance

1. sOFF permits various additional commands like fastboot flash etc.
In short you get even more freedom
Search on google :- ''why do we need to sOFF'' there is a link on ARHD blog that explains this in detail
2. The answer to your 2nd question is very simple.
To get back to full stock- as if you havent done anything to it(no root sOFF unlock etc.) So as to gain warrenty
Hit thanks if i helped you

I did some more reading on S-Off as you suggested and it doesn't sound necessary or really worthwhile to me. As long as I can put a custom ROM on, as I've already done, then I don't see the need for S-Off as it sounds like it's just inviting trouble if you don't know what you're doing (which I admittedly don't).
Also, I don't see why anyone would ever want to go back to full stock. I read that even if you unlock and put a custom ROM on your phone that it is still covered under warranty and that it's up to the manufacturer and/or carrier to prove that the act of doing one of those things is what actually caused the phone to malfunction thus requiring warranty repair.

90% of people have no need for s off...since HTC let us install kernels via recovery ...now barely any people need s off... I think in Europe it doesn't matter if you unlocked and etc..you're still covered... Here in the states ...they can be a holes
I used S-Off to convert my AT&T One software to Developer edition software, then returned it to S-On. Now running totally stock developer version software, eliminates AT&T bloat and hoping I get updates a bit sooner than I would have with AT&T version.
With S-OFF you can flash kernels from the phone. S-ON you would have to do it maunally via fastboot.

So you got the answer of your 1st question
Now the answer for 2nd one is very simple, though what you said about warrenty is right,
But still many times its always better to have a full stock for warrenty or replacement (by "better" i mean you dont have to prove anything to the service center)
Hit THANKS if i helped you

Wrong I believe with updated HTC dev for the one...HTC unlocked that for us
Basically don't S off if you don't know what it does. It bypasses security checks and allows access to all phone partitions that if applyed wrong could brick your phone. Just flashing roms doesn't require s off
Example of mistake
Fastboot flash hboot recovery.img
This would brick your phone if you had s off, s on would deny write access!!
IF YOUR recive HELP FROM SOMEONE BE GRATEFUL AND HIT THANKS!!!

Oh sorry. I was basing that off the One X. I S-OFF'd my One because I thought that without S-OFF I couldn't flash a kernel.

Hi All,
As the title says, I am trying to restore my HTC One m7 to factory settings on the Vodafone AU network. I have had nothing but headaches over this since I first rooted this phone and unlocked my boot loader. Idealy I just want it all over with and restored to Vanilla software, I honestly don't really know how to go about this and I cannot located a RUU for my carrier.
I would really appreciate any help people can provide me with and just let me know any details that are required for this.
Hi
A friend who is disabled has a HTC One phone that has been updated to 5.0.2 but a vital app he uses no longer worked (auto answer) I tried lots of alternative apps and none of them work. So I thought I would try and downgrade the phone to 4.4.2 as I believe the app worked then. However I really don't want to brick it!
It is a stock UK Vodafone phone, completely stock, no root, probably sim locked to vodafone etc. I was looking into downgrading and it said I would have to first get "S-OFF" so I found a tutorial (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314582), when I went through with it though it said something about the "path" not found or invalid or something, I think this was because the phone wasn't rooted.
Is there an easy way to root this phone? Should I just follow this tutorial : http://htconeroot.com/htc-one-root/how-to-root-htc-one-windowsmaclinux/
After I have root and S-OFF I need to flash a new 4.4.2 (stock) firmware, but not sure what one, I downloaded one but can't remember where from and don't want to flash something that I'm not sure about! I need to know the phones CID and MID whatever they are?
Thanks

The only way for you to downgrade is to get s-off, revone wont work, you will have to use sunshine on your current HBOOT which will be the latest HBOOT version, sunshine is the only way to s-off this HBOOT and will cost you $25 through paypal during the s-off process.
for this to work, you will need to unlock your bootloader at the HTC dev website, then flash the latest version of TWRP recovery and then root the phone before running the sunshine app, sunshine used to do all of this for you, but for some reason does work on Lollipop.
Are you sure auto answer isn't in there, its on mine, its in settings - call settings - auto answer ?

Hi thanks for replying
we can get the auto answer app on the phone, its just 5.0.2 is breaking the functionality, it doesn't auto answer its just rings. Some apps even crash when it should auto answer (after 2 rings) looking on google it seems a lot of people are having trouble with auto answer on Android 5.
Are you saying auto answer is inbuilt into lollipop? Is there any chance you can test if it works or not? I only see this guy on Tuesdays so won't have access to the phone until then, but if its inbuilt and works then that's great! He uses a bluetooth headset to answer the call (can't move his arms)
So sunshine is the only method that will work because it was upgraded to 5.0.2? I don't mind paying if it I can get auto answer working again.
Still a bit confused about what rom I would have to flash (if I need to)
Thanks
Mike

You know it might just be easier to get a BT headset with the auto answer built into that so you wont have to worry about app updates.
