The little green Android sits there with his spinning molecule stomach for a bit, but after a few pixels of the progress bar is showing then it just reboots into old system, reporting a failed update.
I've disabled SuperSU's persistent root to see if that helped, but no.
Previous OTA worked just fine, from 434 to 253.
This one keeps failing, though I've downloaded it a couple of times, both over wifi and 3G.
I'm in Sweden with an unbranded Xperia Z, rooted, never unlocked bootloader.

Why would I have done that? What files would that have been?
That doesn't sound like something I'd do on purpose, unless there was a reason for it (as in some guide telling me to) and I can't think of one right now.
Just downloaded and installed SUS.
I'll try using that instead.
As Litoni say any system app, even Facebook.apk
Or did you change the firmware from one region to another one?

Hehe, that could've been it.
Removed that a long time ago, since I don't use the FB app. I use IM Plus Pro for the FB-chat only.
Update worked through SUS.
This time I will do a backup of FB before I remove it, so I can put it back, if needed.
Thank you.

this one "system_do_not_touch.apk"?
I actually had another OTA update out of nowhere. The version is still technically 7.2.1, but it went from 7.2.1_user_2030320 to 7.2.1_user_2040020.

I have not move/rename. I actually want the updates to see how they affect the system, as long as they don't fix the root exploit. The reason I was annoyed is because I didn't notice it was an update until about the third time I flashed a backup and looked closer. Now I can make a backup of that version. By the way check out the android development section, Hashcode has figured out a way to bypass the locked bootloader

I received the same update - first I was confused, why my root was gone while it still having the 7.2.1 on, because I couldn't remember what was written after user_*** I wondered what happend - but thanks to that post now I understand.
Next to the lost of root, Amazon (which don't like us playing) turned back the permissions on the dtcp_apk.apk what brought the adds on the lockscreen back. They probably just pushed a new version of this file.
Yes, I just downloaded root checker and confirm my root is gone as well. The good news is that Google play is still working. My problem is how they pushed that updated without requiring user approval. This looks like a violation of our privacy rights. I'm going to research this further.

hey guys just want to know if u guys are having this problem (im on stock .284)
so after rooting using doomlord's tool
the nfc cannot be enabled
if u guys are having this problem there is a solution found in XZ thread
sorry i cannot post the link to it since i accidentaly stumbled upon it
but according to the thread
all u have to do is find the folder data/usf and rename or delete the folder (in my case i just rename it to usf1 since when i try to cut it, it says there are some files that cannot be deleted)
and voila, the nfc can be turned on again
Worked!
I did what you said and worked after reboot.
Actually i didn't even notice that, since i dont use NFC.

what‘s your version?original 284 or other rom?
I tried turning it on after seeimg this thread and it just wont stop. Kept giving me message that unfortunately NFC service has stopped. I deleted that folder and rebooted but it didnt help. Had to format everything and flash again. So should I delete it and reboot? Then turn it on?Or is there any fix available? I dont use it but if someone accidentally turn it on then I will be in trouble. Please help.
I am on stock. 284 firmware downloaded from the link provided in this site.

Ive that problem before, the popup error just always pop-out, after I try to turn on the NFC.
just replace nfc.apk with the .257 stock, you'll be fine. theres no error anymore. (I give the link below)
set permission - replace the nfc.apk - reboot - wipe data 'NFC Service 4.1.2-_vr_nw' via titanium backup - Done.
and then NFC service can works perfectly
maybe helps u..

Just about every hour of the day, I have touched my finger on that "Check Now" button in the System Updates page. It keeps saying I am up to date, although my system software number still says it is 4.2.2. I am on stock android, non-rooted, and I live in the USA. I just don't get it.
Also I am EST, so right now it is 9:18 pm as I post this.
It always takes a day or two for the rollout to get to everyone. Just chill, you'll probably get it by tomorrow.

OTA rootkeeper will NOT keep root they changed the way security works in 4.3

Android 4.3 Notes:
Based on Android 4.3 release notes, on Enterprise and Security, Restrict Setuid from Android Apps, su binaries and Superuser apps designed for previous Android generation will simply not work on 4.3:
It means preserving root with OTA Root Keeper won't be possible anymore as new rooting techniques rely on more than just a setuid su binary in /system.
I'll look into solution of course to preserve the functionality if possible, but until then please follow Chainfire's job on SuperSU betas.

Strange! Other people are complaining because they still haven't got the update. My Xperia Z (C6602) got the notification for the latest OTA update for 10.3.1.A.0.244 via the update centre app. I downloaded the update and pressed install, and the phone shut down, and installation started, but then it stopped 1 min after installing, the phone rebooted and I got a notification "could not install". What's happening?
My phone is not rooted. OTA update to 10.1.1.A.1.253 worked previously. Any ways to fix this problem?
The internet connection at my current location is not stable enough to use PC Companion or Sony Update Service. It would also take the whole day to download the whole ftf file. (Max download speed is 40 KB/s! ) Can anyone think of any alternative ways please? Thanks in advance.
P.S., I found a similar tread in Xperia J forum (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44735001#post44735001), but no solution to the problem.

None of the system apps are missing as my phone is not rooted. But, my local Sony Service installed a local font without rooting, that's the only change made. (I don't know how they did that, I just saw them running a .bat file from computer. They said this won't void the warranty.)

Usually what happens is, you probably deleted some of the apps that came pre-installed but are not necessary components. When you run an update check, they will notice that some of those pre-installed apps are missing, and will prompt you to do an update. Post-update, you'll find some of those apps installed on your system again. The update you saw was probably anywhere between 5mb - 80mb.

I am glad the poster started this thread as I also had an update soon after flashing generic firmware over the O2 branded one that came with my phone, and wondered how come.
On the info offered in this thread I went ahead and installed it.
I can confirm this update added the 4g option in mobile networks.
Indeed a minor update in which data and root remain intact (no need to back-up/re-root ).
