HTC sim card failure and battery lasts only 7hrs - Sprint HTC One (M7)

So I got the HTC One after the lackluster GS3 signal issues and multiple GPS signal loss. I've been a HTC fan since htc diamond days so :good:
Now the phone has only been used for about 24 hours so these issues might get resolved, until then, I ask my fellow XDA peeps.
How can I solve this sim card failure, it causes drop calls, 3g signal loss, and pops up every couple hours.
Next issue, battery last 7 hrs with about 3 hours screen time, what is the issue with that?
Last issue, HTC sync is not letting me transfer my music, is there a way to get the generic storage device to pop up on windows?

Disable "best wifi performance".

You may have the SIM card slot incorrectly installed from factory and only fix is exchange. I exchanged my wife's because of this.

If the error you are experiencing is "SIM card not inserted" i read somewhere (can't remember where on here) that if you just put a piece of scotch tape on the top and cut the excess off the sides. that worked like a charm for me!

Ok so I got the SIM error fixed by reinserting it.
I also I also got to more than 10 hours battery by lowering brightness.
I just need the files transfer from computer to HTC one ?

Hopefully you mean ten hours of screen on time. If you're looking for more, you can always turn on Power Saver under Settings -> Power (it'll throttle the CPU, but the One's is powerful enough that it doesn't make a huge difference in terms of performance).
You can use the HTC's on board file transfer tool. It's under Settings as well.

You think you may have fixed it, but it will return. I just swapped out mine last week because of that issue. I got my new one and the screen colors are washed out REAL BAD. I'll be getting another replacement sent today or tomorrow.

So yesterday until today I got 10 hours with 50% battery left which is very good but screen time was around 3 hours use. I realized that u can't actually use this phone that much if you want better battery life. I tried power saver in the beginning and it didn't do too good but I'll keep it on for the whole duration
The HTC transfer phone is for phones only and I already sold the gs3 so all the stuff is on my comp.
About the SIM card, can I just go to sprint and get a new card or do I have to get a new phone? I bought this phone on eBay used so I don't know if the one year warranty is for me too?

plug your phone in to your computer, look under my computer, you'll see htc one, double click that and you'll see your internal card and you can transfer from computer to it,
also if you're running windows 8.1 or using a 3.0 usb port, you'll have problems.

Problem: very weak battery, even for the diamond!

Hello guys!
It's nearlly my first posting here, but i'm reading this forum for quite a while now.
I finally got an Xda diamond and everything was ok the first couple of days, even the battery was satisfying. When i use it really much, the battery lasts for about a day, that's ok. But 2 days ago, suddenly the battery got empty from 100% down to 0% in 7 hours, although i did not use the phone much. I had a call for about an hour and that's it.
Knowing there are some possibilities to save energy, i followed some advice from this forum:
- took down the display light to stage 2
- switched off UMTS
- switched off GPS
- installed powermanagement.cab
- switched off RSS Hub auto-download
- made sure there are no applications running in the background all day
- made sure there are no data-connections like Bluetooth or GPRS running all day
I also installed PowerGuard v1.2 which told me, my Diamond drains about 65 mA, what seems to be a proper value, comparing to other peoples around here.
This morning i took the Diamond off the charging cable at 8:00 and it switched off at 16:00. I only used it for a 1 hour phone call again, thats all. I did not do anything else with it.
I don't unterstand, why it lasted much longer the first couple of days. Anybody have an idea?
Thx so far!
1. Check with Task Manager Cpu proccess
2. Hard Restet ?
I have the same problem AND additionally sudden softresets.
The battery is defect. I will buy a new one and o2 will refund the money.

The battery is not supposed to get empty to anywhere near 0%, it can be damaged if it does. The phone is supposed to turn off to prevent that happening.
If killing tasks does not help, maybe you just got a bad battery? Edit: ^^^ What he said!
Here's a useful link for information on Li-ion batteries: http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm
Hi!
I recently found the solution. My sim-card was too old! I had been using it for about 4 years. A couple of days ago, I ordered a new one from my provider (O2 Germany) for free. Since I changed the sim-card, I never had any problems with the battery anymore.
Why didn't I find this advice anywhere?
Cheers
Your SIM card was "too old"? My technical prowess is nothing to brag about, but even I can tell you that that could hardly have been the cause.
Older Sims seem to drain more battery power...
I have to agree with H3x ... I don't see how a SIM card would have any effect on battery life.
As a point of reference, I'm very satisfied with my battery life. I charge it for an hour or two a couple times a week. I am diligent about turning off WiFi, Bluetooth, and running apps when not in use, but other than that I don't do anything special.
With GSM band manually selected in phone options and moderate use, my diamond can last over 2 days, with "auto" band selection it barely lasts a day...it just drains stock battery so much, even in standby...but I still can't be happier with my device, no matter what
Decided to watch battery more carefully over PowerGuard, some things started to make more sense...

[Q] Battery dies rapidly after a full charge

HI
My wife has my old Touch Diamond2. She complains that after charging it overnight, the battery shows as FULL, but within a few hours it is dsicharged.
1. Does the battery need replacing
2. How can I check to confirm it is the battery and not the charger/phone.

Thanks Senax for the nice link.. That is very nice thread to read and understand
thanks
I think the phone possibly has a hardware fault.
It strange, because if I take the simm out the phone keeps alomost full charge for the whole day!!
Not sure if its worth fixing.

May be you can check what all kind of networks are working/used when SIM is in? Also make the network selection Manual instead of AUTO and see the difference.
thanks.

Thanks lfallasm and TD2IN
I dont want to flash the phone cos I have software (TomTOm) on the phone for which I no longer have the original CD to re-install. Also I have never flashed before.
I will try the network selection suggestion.
cheers
Network selection is already set to Manual.
I noticed something very STRANGE today.
I thought it maybe due to the signal in the new house we moved to, so I took the phone to work. Made one call and it went dead. Tried to start the phone, but battery to weak.
I took the sim out. started the phone without the sim and HEY PRESTO, battery is 75% full!!
Any ideas whats going on??
You should really flash it first, and if it fails you have a faulty phone. But flash it with HTC stock Rom, because you will lose waranty if you use anything else.
Its out of warranty. (My wife uses this phone now)
Would a FACTORY reset achieve the same as flashing with a HTC stock rom??
regards
FIXED.
The battery was faulty.
Apparently is had developed a slight "buldge" in the middle. Probably due to over heating.
Bought a new battery and all seems well.
£8 battery saved me buying a wildfire S for the wife.

Anyone else with defective Atrix HD's

I have already had 2 defective Atrix HD's. I am trying to decide if it is worth keeping at it, or if I should give up and switch to something else.
My first one had a sudden battery discharge issue, and my second one ended up having a dead headphone jack, after only a month of use.
Poor build quality, or bad luck?
AT&T has been good to me, and has sent out both replacements under warranty exchange. My third Atrix HD is on its way now.
Would say bad luck!
Build qual. is perfect for me!

I have to agree with him. I've had nothing but perfection with my AHD.
I think there's no need to make double threads with the same topic.
It might be a bad luck. I even got my Atrix HD in out of box condition and never had any problems till now.
I agree with the double topics, however he way i phrased it in the initial topic got it closed as pointless. (But the thread complaining about the at&t logo on the front goes on)
Thank you for sharing you experience with me. It tells me that it might be bad luck and i should continue with the atrix and not give up on it.

I am having issues too, I never had these issues with my atrix 1.
1-> Rebooting itself (funny thing is it reboots during the standby(ideal on table or on sofa etc)
2-> Camera initialization error. It is not guarantee to work all the time if i got this error i have to reboot the phone.
3->If the battery is less than 5% screen getting unresponsive even charged fully i have to force reboot to avoid this situation
4-> I can see Android with error symbol during the boot sometimes
5-> No change even after recent OTA
Update: I deleted few apps and disabled all AT&T apps. Now phone working fine no reboots, no camera errors and improved battery. Looks like one App causing all these issues. Don't know exactly what app created these issues.
third phone seems a bit sluggish, but that likely is something I installed. So far so good. Time will tell.
I have noticed another bug, when rebooting while it is charging, I can lock this thing up good (The screen goes blank... but you can tell it is still on. Then the device becomes unresponsive to anything but the force reboot.). I found the force reboot option doing a Google search and got it working. The simple work around is that I never power it down and then re-boot it while attached to the charger.
Thank you for your feedback. It is reassuring to find out that I am the only one with these kinds of issues.
As for the previous poster, if you still have these issues after a hard reset to factory, then I would get an exchange on it.
usually when you shut it off while connected, the phone starts up again into the battery indicator screen, after that loads you can start the phone back up properly
I've got an issue when I tether. My screen goes blank and the phone is completely unresponsive. Once I shut wifi off on my laptop which was using my hot spot the phone awoke with an error that my home screen was unresponsive. :-\

The sluggishness was actually a weather app that was trying to draw overlaying graphics onto my screen, and so every first touch cleared the "clouds" then the second touch was actually acted on by the device... foolish design. I have to figure that apps are/can be a significant factor to the build quality of a phone.
For example, maybe..just maybe my battery issue was driven by a misbehaving app, rather than a physical defect. The device talks to the battery, and the battery talks to the device, and they all talk to the charger. I know in 1 case, the battery was reporting as full. So the device was telling the charger that it did not need any juice. In reality the battery was almost dead, and then it shut off with a fully drained battery. Upon re-boot it was reporting a dead battery, so it then charged. There is no way to tell what caused that communications breakdown.
My headphone jack...well, no arguments, that was a defective part. But on other things you never know.
should I get a replacement?
Should I try to get a replacement based on my phone's bugs?
would a replacement likely be free of these bugs?
I got an unbranded AHD off of ebay, supposedly unlocked (but have yet to try a SIM to test it.. getting one in 2 days).
The "System version" on the phone says 77.55.17.MB886.BellMobility.en.CA, so I'm guessing it's a Bell Mobility model. :cyclops:
The bugs:
-Possible high-rate battery drain while off-
One day I was fiddling with it using WiFi and GPS, and turned it off for the night. The battery was around 60% when I turned it off. (I'm 95% sure it was turned off, rather than put in Sleep). The next day when I turned it on, the battery was down below 30%.
I had "Battery Mix" app installed, and it shows the battery level graph continuously (when the phone is off, on, or sleeping. Battery Mix showed the Battery was being used up at about the same rate while off, compared to the rate it was being used while it was on.
-Battery usage data not available-
Next is a commonly mentioned issue with ICS, although people at Motorola's forums don't seem to have ever seen the issue.
The Battery Usage screen displays : "Battery usage data not available". It will show the on-times for Mobile network, Wi-Fi, Awake, Screen On, and Charging.... but it doesn't how any battery usage for specific processes or apps.
-Mobile network signal, even when no SIM installed-
This is another bug with the Battery screen. For a couple days it was fine, then one day I was installing and trying a few mobile data on/off toggle apps/widgets. Starting after that, the Battery screen shows steady activity for "Mobile network signal", even though no SIM is installed.
(a system monitor app shows that there is no mobile activity).
I've done a factory rest, and after that and with no apps installed, it still shows steady mobile activity. So it's pretty clear that it started after installing mobile toggle widgets, but shouldn't a factory reset erase the cause and result in the absence of the bug?
.. Battery usage data not available-- it would be a helpful feature, but I wouldn't get a replacement because of it.
.. Mobile network signal with no SIM-- Since a monitoring app shows that there is no mobile activity, it's not actually using the battery. However, it makes me wonder if this bug could also suggest a bug with mobile operation.
.. high-rate battery drain while off-- this is more a matter of concern.

Return for bugs? No. If they are the same issues that others are having, then most likely returning it for and exchange would not solve your problems.
The headphone jack. That's interesting. Part of me is hoping that the headphone jack is bad on my new one eventually, because this is my third Atrix HD and AT&T said that I can switch to a different model if this one fails.
I really do like the phone, but I should have waited for the Note 2.(completely different phone, I should have thought it through better)
I was going to return it to Walmart att store and get a one x, but I was out of that. So I then contacted Motorola to get it repaired and they're smoking something up there.

Sim card affecting battery life

Hi all
I posted this thread a while back and failed to update it. There was a battery problem with my LG4xHD and he was draining 20-30% over night. I got a new battery which didn't do anything and then I sent it to the repair shop. It came back and they had no comments on the battery. I figured the only thing that was different was the SIM card being used. I am currently using a different service provider than my repair shop called NOVA (mine). The repair shop has a deal with Síminn.
I figured this might be the problem, although I had my doubts, but lo and behold. I switched the cards (I have an extra Síminn card at home) over night and the battery drop was 1% over a 7hr standby time.
I checked the cards and the NOVA card was made 2009 but the Síminn card was made 2012. Is this seriously the problem? I have also switched SIM cards from NOVA in the past but the battery life did not change. So this is probably the SP. I didn't even think this might be the problem. I googled this and nothing came up.
I just think this is bizarre.. NOVA is a very big company here in Iceland and they are shipping out 2009 SIM cards.
(Should probably not put too much stock in holistic bug-discovery.) But one possibility is that the first service provider has two antennas placed in a way so you switch towers back and forth while the phone is just lying on the table. While the other has, say, one antenna a bit closer to where you live, so it doesn't constantly communicate with the antennas.

Yeah that's definitiely the case, I was by no means saying that this was somehow LG's fault. I was merely putting this out there for other users to get an idea if they have the same problem I had, because I had no idea that this was causing the battery drainage.
I was talking about the stuff I was saying. Can't be sure that's what happened, even if it seems to fit. But I've seen this before. I get worse reception on one side of the house than on the other, for example. Because one room of the house is in a zone where you switch antennas, and the other is just in range of one. So if I sit in that one room and talk on the phone, the battery drains faster.
..but it is possible that some cdma module, or some network handshake that kind of has to be optional for the new usim modules, etc, to be compatible with older sim-cards, can actually make the phone use more battery in standby. Could be that the address book storage on the sim-card disagrees with the routines on the phone - that there's some sort of sync that never times out on the one card but works fine on the other. Just not as common.
Ah I see hehe. In any case I switched my service provider today and the standby time on the 4x is amazing! I keep finding myself just checking the phone again and again always seeing the same battery percentage! To think I put up with a 10-12 hour battery limit!

I own Optimus 4x for a week, and I am using it now for a couple of days. So far if I had my 3G connection enabled, the battery would not last very long, so I changed it to 2G only. Now the battery lasts for 24 hours and stays at that mark with around 30%. But I am using TimeDo app with which I am switching the display to certain modes during the day, so it is darker after 4PM, and Airplane over the night, etc. During my work time, I was using GPS for an hour, surfing the web through the day, checking corporate e-mail and doing the calls. The one thing that really bothers me, is that in e-mail program, the program does not list the folders by its name alphabetically an that it does not refresh all of the sub-folders automatically. I checked all the settings with no avail.
Just dont too much app running in background, that's makes battery life longer...

looks like a defective battery. HTC will change it if your are still on warranty. If not, they can replace it but it will probably cost something.... Better to ask themé
yes i still have warranty untill june 2015, mind you its been repaired twice already , onve for the camera unit , i kept getting a black spot in every picture i took and then the sound from the speakers died after an official htc update...ill phone htc on...monday, just to be sure i did the battery test again..reset phone to factory settings...i had absolutely nothing installed ran the battery test fully charged at 100%..after an hour of the test it went down to 45% remaining..

im hoping htc sort this out as its still under warranty, but ive got a sneaky feeling they are going to say that the battery is comes under consumables which is not warrantied....they probably say ive charged it so many times..that its not holding the charge anymore, ie wear and tear..and to think i paid £500 for this phone about 14 months ago,...will reply back tommorrow and report what htc say..
