very low sound and bad quality - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, everything was normal with my phone.. suddenly the speakers sound got very low even when I put it on the highest level and has a very bad quality. I put the phone in the water and after that I realized it. but im not sure if it happened after or before I put the phone in the water. might it be a ROM problem ? please help I bought the phone 2 days ago

You need to let the speaker dry out completely before using it. The sound should come back to normal when it's dry.

My wife and I have both had Droid 4s since release day and aren't experiencing the issue.
I have had my droid 4 since the day it was released with no such problems. The only I can think that would cause speaker problems is if:
a) dust and gunk are getting stuck in the speaker
b) the connector for the speakers is becoming loose... do you ever try and clean around the edges of the phone, like in between the bezel and the frame? If so, you might be damaging a connector when you do so...
Other than that, maybe its a factory issue, it is a very thin top piece that holds the speaker and the screen, etc.
Hope this helps...

I started having this problem about 3 weeks ago and I've had my D4 for about 2 months.
Guess I need to call in for a replacement...what a pain. I used my OG Droid for almost 2 years without the need for a replacement. Then I picked up the D3 and went through about 6 phones in 6 months with a move to the D4 hoping things would be better.
What's the suck trick? My wife's is one day old and ear speaker sounds blown

suck trick
The suck trick is, if u suck on the speaker with your mouth it will temporarily fix the speaker.
Same issueI
I bought a Droid 4 two months ago and about within a month it started up with the same thing you are speaking of, a tinny, blown speaker sound coming from the ear piece. I did the whole sucking speaker deal and it would fix it , only to sound like junk again later. I returned it to Verizon, where they said that they had not heard of anyone else having the same problem, so Motorola sent me a "like new" Droid 4. I have had this phone for a month and just this morning it began with the blown speaker garbage again.
I looked more into it and read that it could be the glue which is holding the speaker in heats up and fails, causing the speaker to release from where it is seated and with that rattles, or vibrates, giving the effect of a blown speaker
This would make sense why by sucking into the speaker it stops, because you are basically popping it back into place temporarilly
Either way, I am returning this phone later today and plan on telling Verizon, I want a new one, not some "like new" refurbished piece of junk. I paid for a NEW phone, not one with problems motorola "fixed"
I hope all works out next, cause I really love the keyboard and could've gotten a Rzr for a few bucks more.
try running this app 2x times. once normally with the bol up and another time with the vol up during a call... fixed the sound for me

I believe this app is meant for the speaker on the phone, not the earpiece that people have problems with.

I just got a "like new" replacement phone for having the same problem. I had my phone for about five months before noticing a problem with the speaker. I had the same problem on four different DroidX phones. Verizon acted like it was such a big deal, and they'd never had any problems with the Droid4. The woman at the Verizon store tried to convince me that my Otter Box case was causing the problem. Verizon's customer service department is such a joke sometimes. So far so good with my replacement though.

if you make a call and run it it runs in the earpiece.
to clean it right
1wipe it off
2 clean it with a airduster if you got one
3 with a q tip and a little bit of alcohol
4 dry it than call you house and pick up the phone
5 than run the app incall 3x times
it should be good than
also in /settings/sound/speaker settings set it to custom turn off surround sound and turn the eq to bass punch or lower.

screen turned orange, and the speaker blew

I was playing dead trigger and all the sudden the screen turned orange and the device completely froze... I rebooted and when it came back on my speakers completely blew I can't listen to anything now because the speaker is completely shot...... wth
Return it to wherever you bought it from. Call Google if you ordered from play store.

Have you tried a hard reset (hold down power button for like 20 seconds) and do a factory default to rule out software glitch?

This sort of thing happens when a new device is released. Unfortunately it comes with the territory. Just look at pretty much any iPhone ever released...

It's all good it's a protection against the water. Sony says that you need to let it dry for 3 hours.
It will work fine around that time.

As this thread is about speakers, while listening to either a movie or music, the sound is only coming out the bottom speaker for me, is there a setting somewhere I need?
There is only 1 speaker, which is at the bottom.

Ah ok thanks, I must remember to hold my phone upside down then when someone calls, so I can actually hear what they are saying! lol
Mine isn't!
My Sony Xperia Z got "some" water flushed into it, now speaker is very very low (hardly heared on full volume).
8 Hours , have passed still no change?
I think something is wrong other than water what could it be? It didn't fall, hit something hard (all elegant handling)
Advise me people!

Hi, Im new to this site. so umm here is the deal. Today i went swimming and took my xperia z with me. and made some underwater videos of like maximum 5 seconds each. XZ was working fine. At least a few days, preferably a week with all flaps open and DO NOT turn the phone on during that time.
If you're very very lucky, you will have avoided any permanent damage from corrosion or shorting out of components.

I don't know if you did any damage or not. All I know is that water and powered up electronic components are not a good combination.
Like I said, you can only hope you have been lucky and escaped without damaging the phone.

problem with talk volume when making calls

hello,
I have a weird problem since a couple of days making calls.
The person I call can barely hear me, often not at all no matter how loud I speak.
I thought the mic might be broken but when I do a speach recording it works just fine.
everything else also works.
anyone got an idea about that?
Sounds like a Rom issue, try a clean re-install
nandroid back up first

Common fault. I had mine since launch day then a few weeks ago people couldn't hear me unless i was on Speakerphone or with headset on.
Got sent a brand spanker from HTC because they couldn't fix it, three days later the new phone did the same thing...
