I have unlocked the bootloader and every boot yields the motorola bootloader warning message. I rooted installed safestrap. If I installay custom rom I only get a black screen after the safestrap screen on boot. I can revert to stock rom, it is fine.I searched th forum but did not see a similar problem.
There is NOO WAYYY you searched. Every single noob does this. This is probably the 5th time in a week. You can't use safestrap with a unlocked bootloader. You have to use cwm..
I kind of understood before maybe people just didn't really research but shoot it's says for locked bootloader in the damn safestrap title now.
Not trying to be a **** but hell don't lie and say you searched and couldn't find anything when it's clearly everywhere. If you just said Iono what I did it just won't work even though clearly it says not to Ok fine but don't say you looked.

I didn't unlock my bootloader, but it happens to me too. After buying my Razr HD (XT925), I rooted with Motochopper, then installed Safestrap. When I flash a Custom ROM, nothing happens, just a black screen. I'm a noob, and really don't know what to do, could you help me?

Probably because you tried to flash CM based ROMs with safestrap. You can only flash a select few with safestrap including Batakang, Joker, and Batakang Rises to name pretty much all of them. You need CWM, I prefer touch version so I don't wear my hardware buttons. Flash this in fastboot mode AFTER UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2421418

I would like to undestand why Safestrap doesn't work with CM based ROMs. A lot of tutorials in this site suggest Safestrap for flashing Custom ROMs. I liked it because it goes back to Stock any time, really simple for me. If I use CWM, will I be able to restore my stock ROM?
Because safestrap is meant for locked a bootloader. And cwm will let you return to stock just make a nanodroid backup of it.

I am new to rooting tablets. I have previously rooted a lot of phone, messed with the system UI, framework, kernels, flashing, CWM and all. I dont know anything about the tablets, so therefore, like a noob, I am scared of what works and what doesnt.. can anyone guide me with whats a Recovery I can use that really works? Ive heard of CWM and TRCP... or something like that. I lean more towards CWM. What are some good ROMs, ( I would love a CM ROM), kernels, rooting methods, unlocking boot loader and all. Help a noob out, I've been doing a lot of reading, and yet I'm still undecided. Just looking for the safe ones, Im on 4.2.1 Jellybean.

Yeah, I've read everything, Ive even downloaded some software to root it. i got a recovery and rooting software that unlocks bootloader as well, buutt, I dont know if its safe, so I said I might just give it a shot to see which ones would be the safest and most reliable.

The method involving using Fastboot is safest i think, i've used that on both my nexus 7's, be prepared to loose all your data though when you unlock the boot loader
Closed as you have advice
Well, I rooted my ATT JB via Ubuntu and attempted to flash a custom rom (cyanogenmod 10.1) The flashing process said it went well so I decided to go for the reboot. Since then, I have been stuck in Fastboot.
What I have tried:
Normal Powerup
Recovery
Factory
BP Tools
All of these lead back to the same Fastboot screen so logically, I try to use RSD Lite to flash the latest JB firmware. When I do, it fails on the first step and says it failed before it ever began due to the verification or something. So, am I SOL?
You can't just flash cm10. You have to use safestrap man. Was it at least the cm10 for the Atrix HD?

RSDLite can flash Motolorola-signed stock rom only.
I did use safestrap 3.11 to flash CM. I'm using RSDlite to try to flash it back to stock to have a functional phone again. I'm not that big a noob. I'm trying to flash the 4.1.1 official from ATT.

Did you create a new ROM slot to install CM? Because there's no way you could've bricked with an SS3 slot. On reboot you should be able to enter SS3, even if you mistakenly flashed to Stock like a noob.
Now if you for some reason tried Epinter's CM 10.1 on Stock, and if Safestrap allowed the custom updater to write over boot.img, then you are indeed screwed, hard bricked, SOL. That's the only hypothetical scenario for a hard brick with SS3. Gotta ask Hash if that's possible though. I don't know.
Was it the cm for the Atrix HD? And you installed it on rom slot 1 not the stock slot?

[Q] Question regarding similar issue.
I rooted using motochopper one click.
installed SS3.12.
and then flashed epinter's unofficial CM10.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2243812 in ROM slot 1.
Everything said it was successful and finished and completed, but when I rebooted it just went to a black screen and nothing happened.
Any one have any idea where I went wrong or why it wouldn't work?
Posted here cuz it was the closest thing I could find on this other than epinter's post of cm10.1 but I can't post in development threads yet.
Thanks!
... I swear no one reads anything anymore. Do not use safestrap with our new custom roms that require unlocked bootloaders you need to use cwm. I feel like I should post this in every thread so people will have to see it.

We've tried. I've tried 3 times for the CWM thread, PM'd Mattlgroff and he tried. Youngunn2008 has tried....After a while ya give up.
Our guides that have the most important information are stickeied, so there's that.
We don't need to remove the SS3 threads -- it might be updated, nothing concrete, but its a possibility. Its also a needed and required tool for users who wish to stay locked for whatever reason they have for staying locked.
As is, the information is on here. Its not our fault that new users don't read the guides.
///OoOo, that looks neat, I'ma gonna flash and not read any guides on here. I've been around the android block befo....wha tha fu....am I bricked?
Help, Help, Help
I know SS3 uses TWRP and Rom Manager uses CWM, but what are the real differences? Is there a reason I should use CWM/Rom Manager instead of SS3? I've been using SS3 and it's worked fine for all the roms I've tried (all but Batakang Rises so far).
OK. Safe strap is an awful way to be able to trick a phone with a locked boot loader into allowing flashing a ROM. Twrp just happens to be what they based it on. Its better than nothing.
Cwm, ahhhhhh now were talking. A real recovery that will let you do anything, to go along with our fully unlocked bootloader.
Cwm rocks, I guess would be the one point to take away from this.
Next, I'll show you how eye contact can make or break any business meeting.
SS3 is for locked bootloaders.
CWM is for unlocked bootloaders.
It's as simple as that.
Using SS3 on an unlocked bootloader is a waste of time.

I'm having issues trying to connect to any network on my MB886. I was able to unlock it within fastboot (I believe this is different from a carrier unlock I need to do). I then put cyanogenmod 10.1.3-mb886 on it. I have a sim card which was working on my old phone in there but it wont show any bars nor connect to any network.
I had the same issue when I first put in my sim card into the phone with the stock OS on AT&T. It showed a sim network unlock screen which I dismissed (i'm thinking I should have done that). Because now I cannot reach any network for voice/messages.
My question - is there a way to set this carrier unlock code within cyanogenmod 10.1.3 ? Or am I missing something here.
I've been stuck on this for a few days and would appreciate any help, thanks!

It's all good here, the friendly neighborhood admins moved this question to the right spot. The subtle differences in the atrix's had me thrown for a loop for a while when i started modding.
I'm beginning to think that loading back stock OS is my best move as i need the carrier SIM unlock message which it did display on me. I was really hoping that theres a way to do this within Cyanogenmod.
As I understand it, the only serious solution is that yes you have to be on the stock factory ROM (or at least the latest official update from the carrier that sold the phone) to get the carrier unlock code to "kick in" and be a permanent unlock. I've read horror stories on many devices where people just wouldn't do that and they ended up creating some mishmash of crap that they weren't able to resolve in the long run.
Best solution in all situations: if you have a carrier unlock code so you can use your device with other carriers, you need to input that code on the network unlock screen you'll see when you power up the phone with a SIM card that isn't one from the original carrier that sold the device (T-Mobile SIM in an AT&T branded phone, etc) but only when the device is running a stock carrier supplied ROM aka the factory ROM or the latest update.
It just doesn't seem to stick or work on a permanent basis any other way, on any device that I've ever used myself.
Thanks. I assumed as much. I didn't make a backup before i flashed CM 10 on it (DOH!). I'm not entirely sure how to return to default stock on it. I saw this guide on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1905222 :
Return to Stock
The best and safest way.....
But that is for the atrix 4g not the atrix HD and im pretty sure if I try to install any zips from CWM that are for that phone it will fail.
Any ideas?
Go read the beginners guide in the general section.

So I read through the intro sections as stated. It sounded like fruit cakes were the safest way to go back. However I downloaded and installed 2.3.6 Kernel from htXDA Fruit Cakes Thread Link
Now cyanogenmod wont boot. Also it didnt look like any of those fruit cakes were helping restore me back to stock and am very confused on how to proceed
The general section on the atrix hd man.. Shoot lol.

Well I may have flashed some **** that isnt good (im guessing that kernel 2.3.6 ) but I can still reach recovery mode. So i probably have to flash a new kernel im guessing? I tried restoring my backup i made from before flashing kernel but it puked loading up.
Flash stock with rsd lite. Per the guide from here.

I keep seeing mentions of the Atrix vs the Atrix HD. This is the Atrix HD subforum where this thread is located now, may have been moved, I don't know.
Regardless, if you want to return the Atrix HD to full stock AT&T ROM status, the best easiest fastest method is:
1) Download the ROM itself from wherever (it'll be the 4.1.1 build named MB886_att-user-4.1.1-9.8.0Q-97_MB886_FFW-20-27-release-keys-ATT-US_BuildA.xml.zip, 431MB in size, md5 is 6b0f3c700fc6ec9de2ecbb9d8552e014)
2) Download Myth Tools and extract it.
3) Put the ROM into the \firmware folder.
4) Make sure USB debugging is enabled (you can figure that one out yourself, I hope) and attach the Atrix HD to the computer, verify the USB debugging is functional - if you have a 4.3 based ROM installed, you'll have to allow the debugging to work by checking the dialogue box popup (part of the new security model for 4.3 as I understand it), once that's done and you get the icon showing USB debugging is running, then you...
4) Run Myth Tools, choose option 2 Flashing Stock Firmware and just follow the instructions.
That's about it.
If this is all related to the Atrix 4G, then stop adding posts to this thread since it's in the wrong place to begin with.
This is clearly about the atrix hd man. His first post states that. I don't understand why you and the other guy are so confused.
Sent from my PACMAN MATRIX HD MAXX
Hence my instructions for the Atrix HD, obviously.
Thanks Br0adband, I think your solution of using myth tools will get me where I want to be. However, I can no longer boot to the OS and cyanogenmod just freezes after I installed the wrong kernel (2.3.6 from that previous link).
I'm assuming before I can start your suggestion, I need to flash the correct kernel for my device to fix it. So I'll start looking for that and then follow Br0adband's outlined steps.
Thanks again!
I suppose I'm still a bit lost/confused. I understand the process to return to stock Br0adband outlined but I cant currently boot into ANY OS. I was able to boot into Cyanogenmod 10 but after installing an incorrect kernel (see earlier post) it either freezes at the cyanogenmod loading screen or just keeps rebooting.
I couldnt find a similar kernel for CM 10.1 for my device (which I'm guessing will solve my problem but who knows). Closest I saw was the github cyanogenmod android kernel page for my device but I dont know how to build it into a zip. I think this may also be a red herring.
I've tried re-installing CM 10.1 and doing a factory reset from CWM but so far nothing i've done has seemed to work. Oh I also tried to restore a backup image but no luck .
I'd happily welcome any advice (like is finding a kernel for CM 10.1 the right thing to do to fix this?)
You have to just flash the stock firmware through rsd man. Stock kernel Is included.

Thank you. I got a bit confused with all the CWM installs and everything. I will go through the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231249 .
Quick question though, will this still keep my phone bootloader unlocked, keep CWM and keep rooted? Or will this reset all that? I just would hate to redo everything
Your bootloader will remain unlocked so all you'll have to do is put cwm back on the flash a rooted rom or a superuser.zip for the stock rom.
Sent from my PACMAN MATRIX HD MAXX
I just went through the same thing with the carrier problem after CM 10.2 (without the kernel issue) on my Atrix HD, and a clean stock RSD Lite flash as referenced by the guide above corrected it quite nicely.

Also, is the bootloader still working on being unlocked for the VZW non-dev phone? Or has that been given up on?

Please post results. A while back I also saw that thread that says it is not 4.4 friendly, but after some were reporting it working I went ahead and installed it. I am on Verizon as well and it seems to have went fine. Boots into safestrap recovery and I made a backup - it all seemed to work. However, in that time, I haven't flashed any roms in any of the rom slots. So if you are going to can you please report back so we know that there were no errors involved with that?
