Lumia 720 Battery Depecation - Windows Phone 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My lumia 720 battery is worse all of a sudden? can this be due to the recent update? It's used so I am wondering if I should follow online instructions for disassembly and replace my battery, I know this would be far cheaper than paying someone some extra b.s. $50 or more to take their sweet time replacing it doing the exact same thing

hard reset it
then charge it for a straight 8 hours or so
that always improves battery life on any lumia

[Q] Swapping S3 for Lumia 820 or 920???

Hi,
I am through with S3 and Android.
I had Lumia 710 and I was quite happy with it.
I would like WP8 phone and I do like both Nokias.
820 I could get almost without need to pay-up - to get 920 I would have to pay extra about $200.
Questions are - are the differences between the two big enough in everyday use/functionality to justify those extra cash that I will have to spend?
Lumia 920 has better camera functions. That is pretty much the only big difference between it and the 820. But the 820 is pretty impressive on its own too.
Done some reading and I am worried about battery life on L820... should I be?
From normal use on S3 in the evening I stoill got about 30% left for unexpected...
I've been lucky enough to own both the 820 and 920.
Basically, the performance of the phones is very similar. So there's no real winner there. If you want to expand the memory with you have to buy the 820, the 920 is not expandable.
If you like to take photos, the 920 wins by a mile. The low-light performance is exceptional, something not touched on by many reviews around the web and the optical image stabilization really helps taking good clear shots. If you are interested in browsing the web, both do a good job but the 920 wins again. The higher resolution and marginally bigger screen size make browsing much more pleasing with the 920.
I have found performance issues with the GPS whilst tracking my daily runs, but it does not seem to have affected the navigation services (maybe I should change my sport software, Endomondo does crash a bit). All the WP8 Lumia's do need a soft reset occasionally, the lock up maybe once a week. It's not hardware, it is a software issue (or one of a few perhaps). Simply press and hold the volume key and power key when it happens and carry on as normal.
Finally, forgetting all the above features & issues, if you have the extra money to spend, the 920 has a much superior build quality. It simply feels great to hold and IMHO feels more solid than even the iPhone.
I hope this helps, if you have any other queries, just ask.

Both will get you through the day but will be gasping for juice before bedtime. A charge overnight is quite normal for typical users. Heavier usage may require more charging.

Thanks a lot Mate - very helpful insights!
I'll try to go for 920, but if price gap will be to great I'll settle for 820.

How's the battery after a couple 100 charges?

Hello everyone, I'm thinking of buying the Razr i since it suits my budget.
Orange are currently selling it for £170 which includes a £20 top up.
I've heard brilliant things about the battery of the Razr, and that's exactly what I'm looking for, something with alot of battery.
But I was just wondering, to some of you long term Razr i users out there that are still using the phone today, does the battery die faster now that you have charged it many times? I read somewhere that the battery goes down hill after around 500 charges. This is an even bigger problem since the battery isn't easily accessible like other phones.
Oh, and can you guys give me a little review on the battery for day to day use? I'm talking about occasionally playing games, web browsing, texting, maybe 60 minutes worth of calls a day etc.
Thanks.
Hello.
I´m one of those "younger" users of Motorola Razr i, but can tell something:
Nearly every Accumulator is going downhill after about 500 charges. It´s just nature of todays technologies. I can tell, that I have some phones after 500 charges, and while it can idle for a week, it is happy to work (navi, video) only for three and half hours before it dies. You can´t help it. Hopefully it won´t be so expensive to change your accu after two years, or there will be far superior motorola at that time, and I´m pretty sure, you will want to buy it again
Now the daily use:
If I do some torture to my Razr i, it can stay alive for a whole day. A LOT of web browsing and chatting, some calls and messages, slight playing and camera shooting. Everytime I do that, I want to put my phone on charger before sleep, but I must chat a lot longer, because that thing does not want to die (How about 3300mAh in razr MAXX?) Once I just check my e-mails and some forums and do a short (10-15min) call, it can live for full three and half days. Obviously I must set some smart actions like turn off wifi and GPS once I don´t use it directly, or check e-mails just only every hour. If I don´t touch it, which didn´t happen yet, it will survive over A WEEK easily.
And in T-mobile is Razr i for £150 +£10 top up (currently out of stock though)....
Razr i is one of the top phones if we talk about battery life so whatever you have at the moment, this little fella beats it (most likely ).
Check out this post from Infinity ROM thread - this is extreme case though.
In thisthread are stats from users so might worth check this out too.
I have it since december of last year, and no battery issues since that .
I have 12 hours of continue use the best!!!!
Intel device - Razr i Owner
Hit thanks if i help you or you like my style
Don't forget: 500 loading CYCLES! A cycle is from empty to full, not from loading from 30% to 80%, just for information.
Battery life is very good, don't worry, use it.

[Q]Need a new phone, battery seems small...

Hello!
Go to red arrow in case you don't want to read my story
My phone broke a week ago(Xperia Z1) and Sony's customer service won't repair it because it was rooted and they will destroy it so I'm through with their bs lol
I looked up what phones I could get that had specs but there weren't many phones available, they seem to be able to sell anything with sh*tty specs here in Belgium xD
The moto X was one of the phones, the other phone was the oneplus one but even though it's a great device, my devices usually have hardware defects and need to be sent back and I've heard about the terrible customer service and I am not in the mood for bad customer service(Looking at you Sony!)
----> Now here is my question:
Love the specs, love how the device looks, storage is only 16gb but that shouldn't be an issue (XZ1 is also 16gb) but the ONLY thing steering me away from buying it is it's battery... because it is only 2300mAh I am really worried if it will last me a day! The AMOLED display should certainly help if you check the time often but I'm not sure about it!
How is the battery life guys, is it good on lollipop and to Custom ROM users: How is the battery life compared to stock, better, worse or about the same
My usage:
Basic apps like facebook, instagram, ...
Basic games like flappy bird, (I do not play games as GTA on my phone, I have a nexus 7 for that)
Lots and lots of music!
barely any calling
EDIT: If I buy a 4g device in Europe, what model will I get? (XT10..)
Thank you in advance for replying to my question!
Greetings,
noahvt
This is the wrong device for you, don't buy it. The battery life of this one isn't bad, but its only 2300mah, which is only enough to get from morning till evening on medium use. Expect about 3 to 3.5hrs screen on time.
People do not purchase Motorola devices for custom roms, because its already stock Android with some light, but useful customization. Most people who use Moto X do not install custom roms because it would lose those Motorola features. There are not many custom roms for it. Also there is more chance of permanently brick a Motorola if you don't know what you're doing. If you want custom roms, I suggest you get the upcoming Nexus phone this year.
I suggest looking at the two latest Moto X which will have better battery life. The flagship Moto X Style (3000mah), and the midrange Moto X Play (3630mah). They both have microSD card so you can store lots of media. This Moto X 2014 do not have microSD card.
You might be interested in the Moto G 3rd gen as well if you are not playing any heavy games. It's a budget phone, but with decent specs if you get the version with 2GB ram, have microSD and the battery life is supposed to last very long.

I normally go on the engadget battery tests to give a ball-park idea. The Moto X 2014 did about 10.5 hours of video usage, the Z1 gave "over 12" though they don't say how much over 12 it was.
Looking at that, it seems to depend how you rate the Z1 battery. If it's only just adequate then perhaps it might be best to look elsewhere. I find the battery OK to go from morning to bed time but I generally have quite low screen on time.
My normal usage is Spotify over bluetooth (perhaps 1.5 hours a day), text messages, web browsing, Viber messaging and a little Words with Friends. It generally results in 2 hours on screen time, and I'll make it to 11pm with 30% left. Also of note, that would be 80% on WiFi (I have good WiFi at home and work) and 20% 4G. Performance would vary a fair bit if it was the other way around.
Edit: this is stock lollipop.

A word on parts

As most of you may have noticed, with the OP3 going out of production and the arrival of the 3T, one thing has remained strikingly similar. And that sometimes could lead to upgrades on users' current phones that are the OnePlus 3.
Just like HTC with the One X and the One X+, the bigger battery from the X+ yielded much greater performance in the battery department and surprisingly in the heat department too. The battery from the OP3T (disassembly and analysis is awaited) could potentially be used in our phone for greater (than usual) battery performance.
The structure of the housing looks to be the same, and the way the OP3 is built, the housings are merely just shells to wrap around the internals, nothing major (like the iPhone) so the Gun Metal casing could potentially be transferred over to the OP3.
This is all just based on speculation however. Time will tell when eventually iFixit or someone else performs a teardown.
My thoughts
Wouldn't say no to a bigger battery but time will tell
Same thought here as well,
I've been doing iphone parts repair n replacement for years,,
And what ive been doing quite often recently was placing an iphone 6+ battery to iphone 6s+,
The benefit is, the older model has slightly bigger battery, thus giving better battery life,
Hopefully OP using same connector for both OP3 & OP3T and hopefully the voltage spec didn't altered much. So that the tinkering one can see what can be achieved
Also wouldn't say no to a bigger battery but it's a moot point at this time since OP won't be selling it independently. Was just talking to Jeff on live chat and he said that they have no plans on selling any phone parts. Also, it's incompatible.

That's a real bummer. However I'm sure part resellers (like some of them do) will be buying phones to take them apart and then resell parts.
Someone in the Reddit AMA recently noted that the battery does fit - OnePlus agreed more or less that it's merely just a more dense cell. Which is great news!
Where did you get that info? If it's compatible that would be huge. Only thing from that phone I would like is that battery! :fingers-crossed:

A user on Reddit stated that the battery does indeed fit and OnePlus (Carl or Pete) said that the battery is the same with more dense cells to increase capacity while maintaining the size

In this case size doesn't matter. It's still incompatible with OP3. Aaron mentioned it. Screenshot attached.

I wouldn't blindly trust that statement. The battery most likely works if it fits. Of course it's also possible that the battery management system (BMS) would notice that the battery doesn't match preprogrammed values and that would render the battery incompatible but I doubt that. I would guess though that the the extra capacity would be wasted. I don't know where the BMS is implemented but it would need to be changed as well to get the new battery fully charged to its higher voltage. The old BMS would stop charging sooner and the capacity would be the same as in OP3.
Guess we'll have to wait for the teardown to be sure or maybe some brave soul to try it out for us.
Also a quote from reddit
I think it will work just fine because the phone charges until a certain voltage is reached. So the nominal Wh of the OP3T battery in OP3 will be 12.92Wh instead of 13.09Wh (that the battery of OP3T is capable of). Now, the OP3 has 11.4Wh so it will be an improvement.

I DMed Zach from JRE and we discussed other scenarios. I did tell him that the battery charges until the battery controller chip knows the battery reaches maximum charge. Looks like the battery definitely works! This is great news. And it shouldn't void warranty either, I took a look inside and there's only one warranty sticker which doesn't get pierced after changing the battery. I guess you could keep the old one safe incase anything happens.
Now to wait for batteries to surface
That's great news indeed. I'm now only concerned about the lowest safe voltage that the new battery can reach. If it's the same as the old one then there's nothing wrong with just swapping it but otherwise it could discharge to the point of not being able to be charged again. That's without software tweaks ofcourse. Could you also ask this question too? That would probably alleviate any potential dangers of it being swapped before anyone builds software to support it.

Question Is it worth to upgrade to a snapdragon 888 considering these ?

i currently own an S21 Ultra Exynos 2100 barly can reach 535k in antutu and poor score on pc mark and others and overall performance even if you freeze the phone and tried factory reset and it tried it all ... even battery life seems weak video play back barly six hours whatsapp calls drain it like its furmark on pc something is messed up with my unit and i dont wanna go through warranty here cuz ill be without a phone for several months and new ones will be out and in the end they will say its not covered so should i just pay difference import snapdragon 888 sell my unit and upgrade considering camera upgrades ai score upgrades etc and all other benefits to gpu boost ?
thoughts ?
live in middle Beirut warranty is just a word nothing is guaranteed everyone will try to rip you off basically
hope this isn't repeated but feel its a unique case considering the conditions and geolocation
What is your current build number?

If you can return it do it and get 888, if you can't return it's not worth to sell and lose more money just to get another version, the phone is already too expensive
Probably not as much the cpu as crap running in the background robbing battery life.
This is true on the Snapdragon variants as well.
Android Q sucks due scope storage robbing cpu cycles/battery and more restrictions on 3rd party apps making diagnostics harder than with Pie.
My AT&T Note 10+ was a battery hog until I toned it down. It was time consuming to do but today it runs very well.
If I had to replace it today I go with another 10+ running on Pie. A vote of no confidence in Q/11 as well as Samsung's lack of newer/substantially better flagship phones.
2 dropped balls don't win any prizes only scorn...
