My mobile is getting slow and when I checked the RAM, it is showing that it has 342MB RAM and usually it is 50MB free and by using RAM Booster, I was able to increase the free RAM. But, is there any way I can increase RAM of the mobile, as my mobile is getting very slow and sometime, I have to restart my system, and even power button doesn't work and i have to take out the battery and put it back...

In android free ram is wasted ram theory....so if things work normal...it's ok
But if the problem is getting slower and no response...then best is use greenify app and make the apps to hibernate....
It works to some extent....But then it is better to use min free manager too

it also depends on what rom are you using, it has effect on ram usage. for example I'm using tonyp's cm10.1 and everything works well. I never check free ram as I don't have to, every app starts quickly and work smooth, even though a reboot a day is needed, but it worth it as I'm using this for more than a month now, without any flashings.

A little tip that works for me on v20l is to go to Settings, Display, Display Font & choose any Font as it will ask you to restart your fone. This way, you don't have to keep doing a battery pull lol. Not to sure what rom your using but on stock 2.3.4 - you don't get the option of a reset.

On the ICS/JB selection of the fonts from the settings does not requires the restart...it takes 2seconds after selection.
So, this is not true for ICS. Applicable for GB only(maybe Froyo too)
There is a way "to increase ram". It's called swap. A program could create a swap file on your android system. Not needed files which are "on" the ram will be copied to the swap file and deleted from the ram.
Maybe this app works for you: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lv.n3o.swapper2
You should notice that a higher "swappiness" means, that the chance is higher for the data to be copied to the swap file. As you can see, it is something like a virtual ram expansion.

What about your obsession about free ram??? I got about 25mb free and all is running smooth as baby's ass...
But if you want to benchmark... it's an another story..(afeter I boot I got about 70 MB) for other apps... including that some non system apps are running on startup, like tapatalk.
If you want really check, after reboot force close your apps... dont use task killers..
Yo man chill out,i want to free ram nothing more.and yea,its about benchmark.although i get a really good score,it isnt enough.
I have 30MB free, and it's smooth !
i got 115.. how? uninstall all bloat apps.. download Supermanager free from market, enable root function.
enable auto-cleanup, enable clean system process, set memory threshold to 90mb..
then at homescreen enable Supermanager widget..
reboot, click on the widget and voila!
i got 102 mb on froyobread 023 by using fast reboot and auto killer app but android doesnt need too much ram to run smoothly
In the original rom the maximum i had was 90MB of Free Ram
In MiniCm6 it was the same
In FroyoBread i had 88MB of Free Ram
And now i only have 70MB of Free Ram on GingerDX, and my phone is slow now. I use the Super Task Killer app to kill some system apps but i can only get about 70MB of free ram. I think i will go back to the MiniCm6, or maybe try MiniCM7 and do some manualy bug fixes.
Cumprimentos / Greetings

Hi
My SGN 7000 task Manager shows 799MB of Ram of which abt 650MB is always in use.
I use One touch optimizer but wout any significant reduction in used RAM.
If I kill process in Task Manager, it shows 13 -15 process killed & Used Ram improves to 600MB.
Note runs very slowly due to this.
Sometimes Task Mgr shows only abt 450MB of RAM in use & then SGN is quite fast.
1. How can I increase RAM allocation? Is that a good idea?
2. If not then how do I stop process running in SGN. It is rooted & am using FrankoKernel 2.6.35.7 #8 , BB LB1, Build GB.DDLB2.
Thanks

Asfaik, the note although states 1GB ram, 200 or so Mb is utilised purely for system.
800 is the correct use for apps, and Android will use as much of it at all times based on what apps you regularly use to keep them cached for quicker access.
There are ram tweakers on the app store. Personally I use the one provided with Norton utilities, part of Norton AV, which works very well.
Hope it helps.

Which kernel should i choose ??
i use DjangoManouche 1.5 now
i have a total of 330mb ram only
any good idea i can do
I believe you have 330 mb because the rest up to 512 mb is reserved for system apps. So you can use root explorer and go to /system/app and remove some system apps you don't use and reboot the phone. Just be careful not to touch stuff that is required for the phone to boot. And no, I don't know exactly which these apps are. But here is a tip: I always remove gallery, news and weather, all google apps, music player, stock email, navigation software if there is any, live wallpappers, file explorer (not before getting another though) and everything that's about visualization in general. These things are safe to remove.
And btw the amount of free ram is pretty much irrelevant to the phone's work because the kernel tries to utilize as much ram as possible and then it gives it away to ram requiring apps for the moment. I am just trying to say that you need not worry about free ram if the phone is working correctly. And if it's not it is most likely not because of used ram but some app is not behaving as it should and is using the CPU too much.
You should consider using a kernel that has OTF settings or a RAMhack. I recommend Etana but for some reason I love Temasek's Kernel. They both have the RAMhack option. It basically takes some of the RAM that is reserved for your GPU and makes it available for your device so you'll have more RAM for running applications etc. You shouldn't set the RAMhack too high though, 32mb/48mb should be fine. Additionally you could freeze some system apps that you don't need and use an autostart-manager in association with a task killer to kill applications and not allow them to restart themselves.

What did I just read?
Don't do what was posted, you'll most likely break everything.
System apps uses system storage not ram. Deleting those apps will not give you more ram. But more system storage maybe.
Ram is used to save the current state of opened applications. Though the reason you only have 330mb left, is cause the gpu uses it as shared memory.
A ram hack is an option, as it reduces the amount of ram that goes to the gpu. But the use of a ram hack over 48mbs will break lots of things, such as recorder, camera and instability in games.
In all honesty, there is no use for a ram hack 330mb of ram is enough.

If you use DjangoManouche you have ram profiles, another option are to use swap, the benefits, i'm not sure there are
Like a previous post said.....android are coded to use all ram except the amount needed for system to run smooth, apps you open will then be stored in ram which are the fastest "sd card lol". Next time you open its from ram. If you use many apps its useful with much ram. After reboot you start all over again. If there's a memory leak you can get issues like lagging Best solution are to choose a profile with much ram for apps and not much more than nessesary for system
Our device gets better each day thanks to our amazing devs
Use guestekrnl 1.8.1 and enable ZRam, works a charm. See my recent post in the flix123 v20s thread as well.
What are you planning to do with the free ram?

To have more free RAM means it has to take some from the normally non accessible system dedicated RAM. This way your device has less RAM for things like graphics which can worsen video playback and record performance.

The opinion free ram is wasted ram is wrong. you should realize it from daily use. its because when you have for example 70MB free and you open browser with some tabs, some game, etc. it closes other apps you dont want or it closes some of the tabs in browser and you have to load them every time you switch them. you need enough free ram to open what you want without system automatic closing other and under 100MB really isnt enough

I got a replacement SGS and I can't remember that my first was this laggy.it is almost imposable to use.
I have flashed CM10.1 and back to stock 2.3.6 I9000XWJW1. But both are laggy
I did a factory reset en cleared all the cash. is there something else I should do?
Strange things are happening with this phone. If i click the dailer ot takes about a second or two to open en sometimes just closes. Well that seems to happen alot. apps open then closes at random.
When i need to answer the phone it is hard to get the swipe to move. strange
Anyone have an idea what I can try to get this think usable?
It some times feel fast end then it stoppes dead.
flash some lagfix kernel for gb. although i already forgot which thread provides it, try to search lagfix for i9000

I usually have between 80 and 120mb free with a lot of apps/tweaks installed, which is excellent considering its a watch. Bare in mind it only has 470mb of usable ram. Using 380mb seems perfectly acceptable to me

Yeah but it's samsung... there is usually some bloat ware that can be frozen or something. What apps/tweaks have you done for memory, just curious? i have about 60-80 after running a launcher which i suspect to be pretty good considering the above ram as you have stated.
thanks for any input my friend

Anything can be deleted mate, trial and error till you find your perfect set up, use titanium backup to back things up and delete them, then you can always restore if something went wrong. Personally I have all stock bloat intact as most of it adds use to the watch (weather, notifications etc) as for memory tweaks I use @zeppelinrox supercharger script, which really does help the watch run smooth and fast (it makes a noticeable improvement in terms of speed and memory issues)
