I got a replacement SGS and I can't remember that my first was this laggy.it is almost imposable to use.
I have flashed CM10.1 and back to stock 2.3.6 I9000XWJW1. But both are laggy
I did a factory reset en cleared all the cash. is there something else I should do?
Strange things are happening with this phone. If i click the dailer ot takes about a second or two to open en sometimes just closes. Well that seems to happen alot. apps open then closes at random.
When i need to answer the phone it is hard to get the swipe to move. strange
Anyone have an idea what I can try to get this think usable?
It some times feel fast end then it stoppes dead.
flash some lagfix kernel for gb. although i already forgot which thread provides it, try to search lagfix for i9000

Do you have excessive ram or the other way around (less free ram than you're expecting) ?
And more than that .. don't you think you should share some real values with us?
For example, (I'm running GB JVP 2.3.4) when I'm bootong I'm getting about 130MB of free ram and in the normal usage the free ram reported by the system is ~80-100MB.
Currently in task manager sits around 250 280 lb of ram even after killing off apps. Im at a loss, thinking of just flashing darkys

you are fine .. this is the gingerbread behavior from what I know.
Ram is running all the time.Linux maked use of holding things in ram incase the application is used again. Anything in ram doesn't make the system slower, unless you are into precise control and into milliseconds of time-saving.

Thought it might have been gingerbread, I might flash back to a 2.2 early Rom

As I said before: Ram is there and powered up. Anything in ram does not use power because it it is used already by the ram.

Alright but I've noticed that the more ram that's in use the slower my phone is.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I've just fashed lite'nin 3.0 and I have no problems. 538 megs of ram is being used and the phone is not slow. I have noticed that some apps can cause a slow or stuttering phone. I have tried a lot of custom roms, Insanity, miui, stock on my sg1, cognition, darky's, stock and litenin on sgs2.
I'm keeping with litenin as I find it to be very stable, good battery and I have found no bugs.
Perhaps you could find out if an app is causing slowness? I have 271 apps and all run ok. Palmary weather caused problems so it's gone. Are you using any cpu frequency apps?

What about your obsession about free ram??? I got about 25mb free and all is running smooth as baby's ass...
But if you want to benchmark... it's an another story..(afeter I boot I got about 70 MB) for other apps... including that some non system apps are running on startup, like tapatalk.
If you want really check, after reboot force close your apps... dont use task killers..
Yo man chill out,i want to free ram nothing more.and yea,its about benchmark.although i get a really good score,it isnt enough.
I have 30MB free, and it's smooth !
i got 115.. how? uninstall all bloat apps.. download Supermanager free from market, enable root function.
enable auto-cleanup, enable clean system process, set memory threshold to 90mb..
then at homescreen enable Supermanager widget..
reboot, click on the widget and voila!
i got 102 mb on froyobread 023 by using fast reboot and auto killer app but android doesnt need too much ram to run smoothly
In the original rom the maximum i had was 90MB of Free Ram
In MiniCm6 it was the same
In FroyoBread i had 88MB of Free Ram
And now i only have 70MB of Free Ram on GingerDX, and my phone is slow now. I use the Super Task Killer app to kill some system apps but i can only get about 70MB of free ram. I think i will go back to the MiniCm6, or maybe try MiniCM7 and do some manualy bug fixes.
Cumprimentos / Greetings

Any idea I removes all unnesserry applications and still my ROM showing 645 some time. When I kill it it goes to 425 but than in few second go back to old place.
Please advice how I can make it work faster and very fast responsive.
Thanks in advance

What ROM are you on? Need more specifics.
I have not rooted my phone.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Regarding 645 you are saying is RAM, not ROM. and that is android mechanism, when you exit from application still it remains in background for quick access till android system find it full. when your RAM is full android have LMK (low memory killing) function, which automatically free require RAM.
Regarding responsiveness you can clean install ROM. you are on ICS so not advisable to reset/wipe device
first root it and flash safe kernel then wipe cache and data it will solve issue.

U may like the result of rooting and install custom kernel like speedmod or hydracore.
There shld be no more performance issue.
Good luck.
Sent from my GT-N8000 using xda app-developers app
you need to remove bloatwares on your phone (apps you don't need to use at all), Root your phone, install Titanium backup and uninstall those bloatwares off (using the app).
Second, after removing most of your bloatwares, boot your phone to cwmr and wipe cache/dalvik and restart your phone.
Don't check anything under under Settings>Power Savings
and lastly,
Minimize installing battery app savers as this will actually maximize your battery(not sure if this is really true or not), but degrades the performance on the phone.
I agree wid cleo
Hi,
I have a P1000 with CM10 (Humberos and Alroger) and I'm very pleased with this ROM.
It's such a difference if compared with GB that it really looks like having a new device.
There is one problem though that I'm not sure can be fixed: the random reboots.
I've dig a bit and apparently reboots are related to the lack of memory.
Analysing the available memory indeed I noticed that it easily goes around 50-70Mb which doesn't seem to be that much and probably this is the root cause of the random reboots.
I've enabled zRAM with a compression rate of 35% but this doesn't seem to have solved the issue.
So I'm wondering why nobody else is actually talking about this issue. Is the majority of P1000+CM10 users not having this issue?
Or it's just that we can't do anything about it and therefore we have to live with this?
In no way this post wants to be a complain. I'm just asking some more information to understand this issue better.
Cheers
Fiber7
Free memory is wasted memory.
This is not Windows which actively swap memory to swap.
if memory really is running low, the memory manager will kill inactive apps, not panic and reboot.

Hi Pryiana,
I'm not sure I got what you mean.
I'm not rebooting the system, it just does it automatically, that's the problem.
What I'm trying to understand here is why it reboots automatically.
Based on Alroger a solution to self reboots is to enable zRAM which is a kernel feature to compress data being written to memory to reduce the footprint.
Are you currently on a CM10 ROM?

I am on aokp jb using humberos kernel (forgot which date)
My point is :
the system reboots you are seeing, it is not because the ROM isn't providing enough free ram. It is something else. Maybe even because the memory manager isn't doing the right thing.
Maybe true that your attempt to free up more ram improves it, but it may just help to avoid hitting the real bug.
Anyway, I am not a dev.
Just a system guy.
I just want to say free ram is wasted ram.
In Linux systems, the kernel grabs as much ram as it can. Not free them.

OK, I see what you mean.
BTW, I can see from the cm10 thread that other people are having the same issue with the device restarting after a while.
Apparently 512MB are just not enough for Jelly Bean.

My mobile is getting slow and when I checked the RAM, it is showing that it has 342MB RAM and usually it is 50MB free and by using RAM Booster, I was able to increase the free RAM. But, is there any way I can increase RAM of the mobile, as my mobile is getting very slow and sometime, I have to restart my system, and even power button doesn't work and i have to take out the battery and put it back...

In android free ram is wasted ram theory....so if things work normal...it's ok
But if the problem is getting slower and no response...then best is use greenify app and make the apps to hibernate....
It works to some extent....But then it is better to use min free manager too
Sent from my LG-P990 using xda premium
it also depends on what rom are you using, it has effect on ram usage. for example I'm using tonyp's cm10.1 and everything works well. I never check free ram as I don't have to, every app starts quickly and work smooth, even though a reboot a day is needed, but it worth it as I'm using this for more than a month now, without any flashings.

A little tip that works for me on v20l is to go to Settings, Display, Display Font & choose any Font as it will ask you to restart your fone. This way, you don't have to keep doing a battery pull lol. Not to sure what rom your using but on stock 2.3.4 - you don't get the option of a reset.

On the ICS/JB selection of the fonts from the settings does not requires the restart...it takes 2seconds after selection.
So, this is not true for ICS. Applicable for GB only(maybe Froyo too)
There is a way "to increase ram". It's called swap. A program could create a swap file on your android system. Not needed files which are "on" the ram will be copied to the swap file and deleted from the ram.
Maybe this app works for you: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=lv.n3o.swapper2
You should notice that a higher "swappiness" means, that the chance is higher for the data to be copied to the swap file. As you can see, it is something like a virtual ram expansion.
