How to overclock our CPU if its even possible?
I'm a noob at android, but I'm a quick learner if someone can explain or just give me a link I would be very grateful.

yeah that topic has been hot since day one
everyone crazy enough to OC the phone have already installed it
it also consumes a lot of battery, gets very hot fast
not a good idea to keep it on for too long, but okay for those short 3D games
What this app is gonna do?
This will give you some boost that is really required to play games that are demanding on GPU front.
What this app require?

After you get ROOTed just install the Tegra Overclock OUYA EDITION app from attachment and click on OK for one click optimization.
You can also change the actual resolution to somewhat lower to again get a massive boost in GPU intensive games or shall I say those games that scale with GPU clocks very well. (I can confirm nearly 2X boost in RipTideGP2 with all settings maxed out when comparing with 1080p to 720p option provided in the app :laugh
Any kind of hazardous warning before use?
If anything goes wrong then you know where the power switch is! Close the console and cut the power and start again. We have not implemented the on Boot settings for safety reasons...
What about future updates?
I just wish that 4.2.2 gets for the OUYA and that will be a game changer for the console as that support full screen scaling on resolution changing vs screen compensation provided by current android 4.1 version....

The LBCMT will works as soon as you boot once after you open the app for the first time. Also note that YOU SHOULD NOT KILL THE APP manually by task killers or the reporting will be fake. BEWARE....

now a simple question....can you tell me which options i need to use for get a best performance in ouya games and emu?
This app has a one click solution (found in the op). All you need to do is click the button and your ouya is optimized. The op already has this information.

Just Press the OK button and wait a few seconds as the settings getting applied. After that Run your Emulator Games and you should notice a difference . Note that Resolution options also cuts the screen area so use them only if a game is unplayable!
is there no way to allow users to set advanced profiles so that they can configure a medium and max overclock setting?
i saw the temps on my core rise up pretty quickly just from fiddling with the UI, not sure if I want to subject this little guy to that much abuse with no really efficient cooling solution under the hood.

it's understandable for the lil guy to get hot quickly when you are overclocking the GPU+CPU, can't expected to run cool unless you put a better cooling fan into you console, i don't mid my ouya running a lil hot, well mines don't get hot enough cause my ouya got a acrylic custom shell with enough vents and airflow that keeps my console way cooler then the ouya stock/factory shell...
its obvious that it would run hotter if the clock speed is higher. no one is disputing that. i just don't see how not allowing the user to specify speed as much of the other CPU overclocking programs like SetCPU allow the user to do.
It's a needed feature IF it can be supported and implemented.

Actually Temperatures are no problem for this chip as it can bear temperatures of 70 C with great ease as the manufacturer mentioned. Don't worry about that also let me know if they are above this temperature so that we can do something about that. If you ask me I am comfortable with 85C as that is what the throttle temperatures (Default mind you!). Just Relax and crush the games already

The custom CPU clock feature conflict the one click feature and not to mention lower clocks are not required as there is no trouble with the highest speed since the cooling is active and with sink. Just don't worry about the temps too much as everything is normal here and the purpose of console is to bear high temperatures with high load even with little heat management..
I have both the old app and the Ouya specific one and it looks to me that 2D GPU clock is set to 260MHz (1/2 of 3D clock). @Kingshoo, can you tell us what the "one click" settings are (governor, CPU clock, GPU, etc).

Oh really If its working on Half then I will bump that to full to in next iteration
Settings are nothing but final settings in one click. Meaning Performance governor (Because this one has no polling overhead as opposed to interactive). GPU to 520Mhz, CPU clock to 1.7Ghz (1.6 on all 4 cores as set by OUYA). Ram at 800Mhz and also no throttling on Ram and GPU so that performance is reduced only due to H/W limitation or by bad coding practices and not due to some power saving logics

BTW...for reference, I had my governor set to performance for a while and it drove the fan to run almost at all times. To the point I ended up shelling 20 bux to buy the Noctua quiet fan. Maybe others have better luck with the stock fan - but if noise is a concern, I found that the "Interactive" governor scales pretty fast with no visible impact on performance vs "Performance".

After reading several reviews about Noctua 40x10mm A-Series Blades with AAO Frame, SSO2 Bearing Premium Retail Cooling Fan NF-A4x10, I decided to buy it. I replaced the noisy fan of my OUYA, and the difference in sound is amazing. I had to check if the fan was actually running because barely hear it. Also, the temperature of my equipment dropped ~ 10°C, so overheating issues could be easily fixed, if you decided to overclock. I recommend this product without a doubt. Check on eBay or Amazon.

Well honestly I wasn't able to play games on OUYA but since you people are playing games what the temps of CPU are anyways after say an hour? I am asking this because I don't see a need for custom coolers as 50C or 70C it really don't make any difference to your hardware. Yes the fan noise may be concerning to many but I have cotton plugs in my ears to keep it silent (these really costs cents and not $$!). OK so newer version will have interactive on one click..
My stock fan is totally silent anyway

i will also try this, i run my OUYA on performance all the time and it's pretty loud...
I have a HTC One which is unlocked and I have had it rooted and I have a ViperOne ROM installed.
Before I rooted my phone my battery life abysmal at best and I rarely got a day out of it (Which was very surprising as i've read threads where people have stated theirs phones have lasted them weekends), I checked some tips online and I managed to get my battery life back up to well over a days use. After doing a lot of reading I've read into rooting and I rooted my HTC One just a few days ago although I have to say the battery life has gone slightly worse.
I've noticed many people are into overclocking their devices while I see the reasoning behind it, I can't help but think why would anyone do unless their device is lagging because it'll overheat plus the battery life would go down. I however have been interested in under clocking my HTC One. My reasoning behind it, is that the HTC One has a quad core 1.7ghz which is capable of doing many things, and many times when I view the stats on the cores, at least 3 of them are idle half the time and most it has ever been is roughly 1.3ghz and I dont remember it ever lagging. I want to under clock it because I don't ever play intensive gaming and the most intensive gaming I do is probably Doodle Jump and watch youtube videos. I want to do this in an effort to further extend my battery life and I would heavily appreciate other informative view points. P.S If I ever under clock my device wouldn't it be logical to also under volt so the CPU only uses the power it requires ?! I would like to underclock my device down to 1.5ghz.
If anyone has any other tips and tricks that I can implement on a rooted HTC One to further battery life, im all ears !
Underclocking is useless. You just stress your phone to use more resources or cores when it hit set peak point. Keeping it stock has been my choice for long time and it just works best. I am like you, I do stuff on my phone that requires no more cores just one. But by all means, experiment..
Concentrate more on keeping low underclocking when screen is off.
Experiment also with undervolts instead, it gives you more convincing results. I usually run a bit undervolt on my kernel.
Also try what governor works best for you. I usually keep it on Ondemand.

I'm currently using a Fallout watchface by moocowe. Since I'm a fairly new member here, I can't link it. You're gonna have to google it. I like it because it shows current weather, time, watch battery life, and phone battery life. It needs some work on their fitness tab. I've been looking for 2 days for the best interactive watch face and this is the best on so far. If you find or can make a better one, let me know! I want to collect a whole bunch.
I am happy to announce the project I have been working on. I do not know what direction it will take from here but I thought it was a good time to show it.
A MID, UMPC, tablet, smartphone - anything you want it to be. This is a kind of hybrid between phonebloks/project ara and the nokia n900 series
The wiki should guide you through step by step and answer most questions you may have. I have always thought one of the most important parts of this project is being able to teach others to do this and make it as accessible as possible.
As the wiki mentions, please raise a ticket on the issue tracker if you have a problem. But if you just want to talk about it this thread would be fine and I will try to get back to it from time to time.
Special thanks to people on this forum specifically who made all those Windows Mobile editing toolkits way back and helped me realize what was possible with pocketable devices and move on from there.

I thought I would provide an update here. The project is still ongoing with a mainboard transition from the Raspberry Pi to the Odroid C0 SBC.
The hardware and software has come a long way making for a pleasant experience to use but yet enough flexibility for most situations and users.

This is a 6 month update. The project continues with a switch to the Lattepanda x86 SBC.
More positives than negatives come with the new ecosystem and the future is bright. It is hoped that with the x86 technology the project will become relatable to more people and the architectural reliability will prove to be an advantage.

This is one more 6 month update. I am using the Lattepanda x86 SBC exclusively now.
The layout of the devices has been redesigned to be more like a smartphone and there is a new shell available for 3d printing. In addition, the software has undergone an update and there are new development notes including testing with some Raspberry Pi 4 prototypes which ended up being too hot and using too much power. Finally, there are 5 new scripts uploaded and one included with the MID software which deals with multitouch gaming.
It works well but I am hesitant to call the project finished so if you have suggestions let me know.
Hello and welcome to another update on this longrunning project.
The launch of the Raspberry Pi 4 came and went without offering any power savings so the project continued on without it using some alternative platforms. On the dual goal of being able to play PC games, it is only until recently that the 8GB Pi 4 had that potential. Unfortunately there is not enough overhead for Linux gaming even on most low end x86 PC platforms so there is little hope current Pi versions will make for a good PC gaming experience.
If you read the development notes you will see some experiments with portable PC stick hardware running games such as Kerbal Space Program on Linux but those devices were a dead end as far as power savings go. Both in terms of lack of power saving features and in idle and load power draw.
Currently there does not seem to be a small x86 device that has working suspend/sleep/standby mode in Linux which renders the dual goal of a Linux smartphone device that can play modern PC games unattainable.
The VIM3 SBC does have a working suspend mode as well as a wide 5-20v input. This allows for much more battery power and energy without the corresponding
wiring complexity and loss of efficiency that you would have in a device that required "stepping down" the voltage to 5V. "Stepping up" from traditional smartphone and tablet batteries comes with it's own challenges as well. Namely, the effective current limit, maximum available power and conversion inefficiency from such low voltage batteries.
On the gaming front all hope for portable gaming is not lost. I have uploaded a bonus version of Retroarch with VIM3 support to the releases area as well. This release is intended for and works well for the older console systems.
Maybe one day we can get a device with 8GB+ RAM that can play PC games and go to sleep. Until then keep building!
I thought I would slip in and give an update just short of a year. A few patches may be still to come anyway.
The goal of a PC gaming phone-like portable has been largely attained. The Lattepanda Alpha SBC specifically has 8GB RAM and can suspend to save power. With a MID based on it you can do the kinds of things you would do on a smartphone as well as play PC games with a gamepad on the go, keyboard/mouse while docked or perhaps even with the touchscreen. The Lattepanda Delta can suspend and has 4GB RAM and is a cheaper alternative. Recent PC games can be played successfully but I would recommend something like a Steam Deck for cutting edge games. If using Android apps is something you would require in a personal mobile device then the large RAM of the Alpha is something that should make emulation possible. When finished you can put the device to sleep and put it in your rather large pocket.
There is something to be said for a smaller more manageable mobile device that is more the size of a smartphone. Even if that means gaming capability is compromised. The VIM 3 is smaller than the Lattepanda Alpha/Delta and has different USB functionality making for a smaller and simpler overall MID. This is more of a device that you can put in your pocket and hopefully not have it break. You can put a plastic shell around it like a commercial device but you will find that one large enough to give good protection makes the MID too large. I do not consider this a big deal since one of the goals of the project is to put more control into the hands of the user and this includes the realm of repairability. In other words if it breaks you can fix it.
Thus 2 parallel ARM and x86 codebases are being maintained for now. Extensive troubleshooting has been undertaken to fix some long standing hardware
stability problems on both MID platforms as well. Addditionally, all main wiki pages have received an update. Finally, another bonus compiled version of the latest Retroarch source has been added that focuses on PS1 emulation.
A special message for XDA Developers users. Don't throw away your Android phones just yet. As inexpensive as cellular plans are you can keep your phone and tinker with something like this too. But remember that when the automobile was first developed it was considered worse than the horse. Over time it was refined and eventually surpassed the horse as a means of transportation. I think as computer parts become more commoditized ever time something similar will happen and nothing will be able to stop us from putting together a phone ourselves.
I am not sure where it is going to go from here but I look forward to using the devices now that the dream has come true.
