[Q] Haven't flashed in a while, help please - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't updated my SCH-I800 in a while and I notice that there is now a stable "cm-9.1.0-p1c.zip" on the cyanogenmod site but also CM10 builds (cm-10-20130714-NIGHTLY-p1c.zip) as recently as last week. The forums for the I800 aren't up right now so I thought I'd ask here if these CM10s are actually functioning well or if they have lots of missing features. And as much as I dig, I seem to only find half working ROMs or extremely experimental ones that have basic things like WiFi missing. Is there a solid stock Samsung ROM and a solid AOSP ROM that everyone uses at this mater point in this tablet's lifespan?
And is there a new method for flashing at all? Or is ODIN still the way?
Thanks!!!

I have spent the last week or so trying to get an SCH-i800 to run something OTHER than the stock gingerbread well and just haven't found it yet. The closest I got was a build of CM9 but still have sporadic reboots.
It's frustrating since the only thing I want this to do is run some OBD apps for my car. The problem is that apps detect Gingerbread and run in phone mode vs. tablet mode, wasting a bunch of screen space.
Cubed has been pretty much the only non-stock rom that didn't have FC's and random reboots. I don't even use the cellular feature of this tablet - I'd be happy just disabling the modem entirely and running on wifi if it meant it being more stable.
I'm considering just getting a Nexus 7, but the problem is that this thing would need to live in my car and I don't feel like doing that with a new tablet which is why I was trying to get the i800 to work

[Q] Verizon Galaxy Tab/Flashing a ROM

Hi, i have a Verizon Galaxy tab. I was interested in flashing a new ROM. Does anyone know if the tab has a Sim card? and which is a good ROM? Has anyone successfully flashed a ROM where everything worked? I use my tab in the car and need 3g, gps etc. But im itching to flash a kernel and a new ROM. Anyone have any advise? looks like most of them are for GSM and not CDMA. Please Help!
The Verizon (and Sprint) SGT does not have a SIM card as they are CDMA devices.
There is a small handful of ROMs available however at first it was pain getting started flashing the CDMA SGTs I've messed with.
Personally, I like oldmacnut's ROMs.
However, I'm currently running KhasMek's kernel and the stock ROM (just until oldmacnut finishes his GB port) - Also, running LauncherPro to hide that awful touchwiz interface and Dolphin Browser HD (for better browsing) - This has made the SGT loads better for me.
My advise to anyone looking to flash ROMs (even as unlikely as it is) if you're note 100% okay with the possibility of a brick, then don't flash. Personally, I've never encountered a bad flash I couldn't recover, but your milage may vary.
Thanks Addictive,
I am also waiting for stable GB roms for my VZ Tab. But I need to flash a nice kernel and a ROM. Even though the rooted tab runs nice with some tweaks......such as launcher Pro. I never used Dolphin HD. Ive always used Miren Browser since its lightweight and real quick for me BUT i will def give Dolphin a try. I might follow your footsteps and flash KhasMek's kernel and wait for Gingy. Have you noticed any significant differences as far as performance with this kernel?
The kernel is a touch buggy, but for me the performance boost was worth it. Lagfix, ext4 conversion and over clock were too good to pass up.
Using SetCPU to bump up on demand to 1.4GHz helps a bit when I push the tab (google music streaming in the background, navigation running in the background, bluetooth paired to car for audio, a friend browsing the web .... simultaneously) - Doing that stock made it angry, audio would skip and UI would lag, now its nearly perfect.
Also, I use Refresh for Android to reboot the tab automatically at 4:30 AM everyday. This alone has helped with stability/performance. Recently though, it has stopped automatically rebooting the SGT. I got the app because I was too lazy to setup a cron job to do it for me heh.
Hmmm well I have the ext 4 conversion (using OCLF) and that definitely made it much snappier but mine is running stock as far as cpu goes. I haven't experimented with overclocking...not sure if I want to risk damaging mine. But it did spike my interest since I have the same setup and have a car mount for mine. So I stream music and goole map it along with other goodies (like trapster) and sometimes it stutters. Would be cool to see how much faster it would go. And yeah rebooting always helps lol so I might flash that kernel friday. Have you tried any other ones?

Best Settings??

Hello All,
Have just started using this forum and failed to introduce myself previously, my name is Jay; I am 27 from DC but in Afghanistan for a few more months (yea..sucks) new to rooting, flashing and all that but I have recent interest in it and it passes the time better than most thing we are "allowed" to do over here.
I just switched from a HTC Desire to a Galaxy Captivate
So far...I have unlocked it (via cellunlocker.net), upgraded to the leaked 2.3.4 Gingerbread, Rooted using the 10step method posted here, Installed Victory v1.5 Rom, tried flashing Talon kernel but bricked the phone and had to redo the above...
My question is to those more knowledgeable than myself with all this...what is the best Kernel, Rom, Modem...whatever else...that I can have on this device to keep it running smoothly, fast and reliable?
I do all the basic call, txt, surf...play games, watch movies, use apps, etc...not a developer but want my phone to be tweaked as much as possible so it does not seem outdated or lag with new things being added.
My current settings are:
Baseband I897UCKH3
Firmware 2.3.4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I897UCKH3-CL461307
Build VictoryRom_v1.5
There is nothing wrong with the phone...as I said above, if I could do more to it and have an overall better device and pass some time here I would enjoy that. Victory seems great but all I notice myself is the battery indicator has changed and...thats about it (a lot likely goes unnoticed by me)
I do have one problem with the phone that maybe a different modem can fix? (I hope) for some reason my GPRS will not work out here with my browser...I can use the market and apps that connect to the internet but my browser seems to be WiFi only. I have changed the settings from usa to europe since I am using a sim from over here but no luck...and added the gprs settings to the phone which allowed apps internet access but zero for browser..any ideas?
I really thank anyone who takes the time to reply...I am sure teaching a new person in this is annoying just as showing the new guy here how to clean his weapon...lol...but we were all new at everything once and I thank you all for reading my novel
-Jay
Jay,
Thank you so much for your service and contribution to our freedom, I know it must be hard to be away from the life you once knew. Hang in there It's not for nothing. Hopefully someone will be able to help with your GPRS settings. I am running the same setup on my captivate only I have used Boogs kernel to install clockwork recovery as well. You can flash boogs kernel over the kernel you have now and that will let you flash roms or speedmods later. If I were you I'd keep my eyes peeled for GPRS settings in your area and wait for EXT or speedmod kernel for the 2.3.4 They are saying RFS is pretty quick to begin with though. It may be hard to beat but im sure one of these great Devs will figure out a way to make 2.3.4 smokin fast. Once again thanks for doing what you do. Keep your head down Soldier!
Steve
If you like using your mobile providers Net, you might give I9000 ports a try. They allow for better Upload speeds but you will sacrifice Audience chip support (noise suppression processor that only I897 have). Also since I9000 source usually drop first they have all sorts of kernel mods like Voodoo sound, Voodoo color fix, BLN, init.d files tweaks like V6, among many more. Sadly I897 native roms always play catch up with I9000's.
Personally I prefer native rom, because they tend to run smoother for longer periods of time (I9000 tend to slow down over time on my phone, but thats just my experience) and I don't use ATT's network a whole lot (90% of the time I'm around a wifi connection) and I like the audience chip, it is a phone before anything else.
Edit: Also there isn't a "best" rom, kernel or modem. Each rom has their own pros and cons, same as Kernels. And no 2 phones are the exact same so not all of them take well to all the tweaks, mods, etc. And most of the time i9000 kernels wont work with i897 roms, at least in GB.

Minimalistic ROM for GPS Logging only

I want to use my good old nexus one for gps logging only. Any ideas for a rom or a simple and stable way to cook my own ?
Thanks in advance!
Why do you have to bother about that. Just don't open any apps
Use any stable Gingerbread or even Froyo bare-Android ROM.
I have been looking for something similar actually. Ive turned my N1 into a (mostly) dedicated music player and would love a bare-bones, CM or MIUI-based ROM with all the phone components pulled.
someone started working on one called MelodyMod but the development stopped suddenly and that ROM still has remnants of phone bits and bad battery drain.
if anybody can do this Ill buy you a delicious beer!

Jellybean ROM issue/question

I am currently running Altonus2 V1.2 with Kernel Version 2.6.32.9-kfazz-g21797a7-dirty and first off I must tip my hat to the developers, it's mind blowing that they were able to make this work on the OG Droid.
My issues are: GPS doesn't\ work (no navigation, just "searching for satellites") and the internet crashes shortly after the browser opens. The phone runs slow but I imagine that is just a side effect from running JB on an older phone. Is there a way to get GPS and the internet working? I'm not new to flashing roms and the like but compared to the experience here I'm all but a noob to any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I believe GPS doesn't work because kfazz had to remove /system/lib/hw/gps.sholes.so because it was causing a bootloop for some people, in regard to Wifi several people have reported problems with it and getting it to connect at all or maintain a consistent connection has been very hit and miss. Keep in mind kfrazz himself said while a lot of progress has been made on the Jelly Bean ROM there are still many thing that don't work and will take a long to fix.

[Q] Latest/best rom with everything working?

Tried 10.1 no external mic/voice deal killer. Cm9 no 3/4g radios deal killer, CM10 no gps deal killer. So There are no updated roms that that keep ALL of what I consider core functionality? So I'm on 3.2 any suggestions on the best 3.2 rom? I've re-flashed at least 5 times looking for the "perfect" rom and I'm really sick of entering all my info/apps only to flash them away....
10.1 was great but losing the mic/voice interface is unacceptable. Also the voice interface on 3.2 seems similar to "google now" but not quite can it be upgraded to full functionality?
I'm currently StreakDroid-HD7R3-4G-105 tried r8 first and it wouldn't boot so any thoughts on r4/7 or is the anther rom family to that's better? Thanks for you input..
Stick with what you have.
Microphone is an easy fix, we just haven't gotten around to it. We have lifes to live

Thanks I tried to work around with a bluetooth headset, no joy. when I open voice search it crashes, am I wasting my time there? And thanks for all you efforts, it just that I'm an idiot buying a t-mobile 4g etc. I thought it was also PHONE! Stupid me, but for $120 I"ll beat it with a hammer until it gives in or dies.. So I'm trying correct my ignorance, and get either real or voip phone calls so a mic is kinda important.
Hey scott, you mean 10.1 has 4G band working? Ive been using R8 since thats the only one I know that uses 4G band for sure. Even tho the icon is broke. As for your R8 not booting, did you nvram flash R2 1st then cwm to R8?
I ended up back on r8, I tore everything out and started from scratch and it seems to be working pretty well now. I don't think I redid the partitions when I first rolled back from 10.1 the first time, and that caused all kinds of access errors.
Restore 2.2 found here was invaluable in rolling back all the way to 2.2 for a fresh start..
