Well the model 5830 is different then the 5830i. Flashing a rom on one that was meant for the other will result in a bricked device. I've never heard of a 5830d do you have the box for it?

You should learn to read the help section before posting. The S5830, S5830D, S5830B, S5830L and S5830T are the same device just diffferent revisions and ROMs and things are interchangeable.
The S5830i, S5830C and S5830M are different devices from the ones listed above and flashing ROMs made for them on to the devices above and vice versa, will brick your phone.
So to answer your question, flashing a S5830 ROM to a S5830D is ok, but flashing a S5830i ROM to a S5830D is NOT ok.

They look pretty nice! Thanks
However, when I flash the ROM, I understand that you should back up and wipe your phone. Does this mean that when I use the new ROM, I will have no contacts or anything?

Yes. You won't have any contacts on new rom. To backup, go to contacts »» Press menu button »» Import/export contacts »» Export to SD card. After flashing the new rom, do the same but this time select import from SD card. And yea, there's always a button to say thanks. Hit it.

Yes. But you can backup apps. There are many ways. You can use ES file explorer to backup in case you just want the app & not the data. In ES file explorer, press menu »» app manager »» select the apps you want to backup & select backup. Installable apps will be stored in the backups folder in SD card. In case you want even data to backup, use titanium backup.

tablet won't start after installing custom rom

Hi, I have a rooted galaxy tab. I recently just installed a custom rom and after, it doesn't boot anymore? It only stucks at the boot screen. May I know what's the issue here? Is it a brick or something? Any helps appreciated. Tks!
it sounds like a soft brick, which isn't too bad at all Just switch your tab over to Download Mode and then flash another ROM that is confirmed working on your device.
A hard brick would be if your tab didn't power on in any way at all no matter what, and that would be pretty bad :/
Hi, tks for ur reply! Do u mind telling me where to download those roms? Tks once again!

Hi! I managed to get my rom on samfirmware.com and even flashed it via odin. But one thing, it managed to go the boot screen but then it doesn't move at the "samsung" glowing screen after that. Did I do anything wrong?
Your best bet will be to restock according to Overcome method.

You may have a corrupted /dbdata. If that's true, no matter how many new ROMs or firmwares you install, it won't help you.
This should take care of your problem:

Hi! Tks for your advice. I just read through the restocking steps on the teamovercome.net. But I've got a question. Is it compulsory to actually install the overcome kernel and rom?

I installed overcome kernel with many other rom before moving to redpill (because of bluetooth keyboard compatibility). It works great with most of rom 2.3.3 and 2.3.6 base. Don't hesitate to try the kernel with other rom.
Btw, did you try pushing new pit file through odin?

Is S5839i a fork from S5830i?

Hello all!
I have a pretty basic question to which I didn't find a precise question.
Recently I tried to follow some "How to's" to root my S5839i.
Surprisingly, none if the HT to 30i worked on 39i.
Are these phones substantially different to justify a dedicated developing subforum?
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda premium
Those phones are the same
ROMs for S5830I work on S5839i last time i checked
Ok. Then why does this sticky root to S5839i won't work?
There might be some differences that affect this basic hack
I manage to root S5839i following this

I have a GT-S5839i and i installed ROM for GT-S5830i about 4-5 months ago and i have a good root recovery package and it work fine on my phone when i had s5839i or s5830i
Thanks for your quick answer but I strongly doubt that my phone is that unique
There might be another explanation.

I don't doubt that installing a ROM isn't possible. How about rooting the original ROM?

If you have a s5839i and you already rooted phone you have lost warranty. To bring back warranty you must reinstall your rom which currently use (for example Czech Rep. Vodafone or Poland T-Mobile).
If you install s5830i rom to your s5839i i think is the same if you rooted your phone BUT i can to wrong about that. But whats a problem to install s5839i rom if you have s5830i rom .

You need to format every partition and reflash your firmware with odin

As far as I was aware you loose warranty for the SOFTWARE not the HARDWARE eg: faulty speaker, overheating cpu or pcb faults etc
You can of course re flash with ODIN using the PIT file to repartition. Use the stock rom your phone came with from samfirmware.com. It would be advisable to make a NANDROID backup of your current rom to restore before doing any rooting and/or flashing.
This is what I wish I had done but I learned from experience.
