can someone please help me about how to restore the stock firmware from cwm (stable version)? I did not make a nandroid backup before applying cwm.zip.
I also want to remove the cwm recovery and return to stock version.
I searched and found 1 post saying use kdz flasher and Lg suite but for that I have to connect using "Lg software" mode.
Thank you..

And i thought that method is easy and friendly too...Why dont you give it a try?
I have one .zip flashable stock firmware i made before...But its debloated and heavily moded system, with iodak kernel...You dont want it
Firstly, this has NOTHING to do with DEVELOPMENT so shouldn't be in here.
Secondly, this question has been asked and answered countless times. I suggest you search and read, rather than being lazy.

I can't or I don't know how to connect using Lg software mode under cwm, so Lg suite does not show my device and I can't use .kdz to flash.
I appreciate any help.

You can "downgrade" your system to Stock ROM Froyo, then you can connect it to LG Update. Is that what you want? CMIIW.
Do u have a nandriod backup?since updating from stock rom should be no problem...
reboot into recovery, wipe data/factory reset, wipe dalvik cahce, wipe cahce partition
turn off the phone, take out the battery..download R&D test tool, windows enabler and the kdz u want to flash. start R&D test tool , press and hold the vol up button plug the usb to the phone it show that u are software update mode..select the kdz click ces web upgrade test then upgrade start...
thats the way i went back from cm7 to stock v10g
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1275315
its not so risky...it was about 10-15min
On cm7 the b2c tool want recognize your phone, and the kdz will not too! JUST if you turn off your phone!
Thank u so much donjamal! That's the help I'm looking for! BTW can I just update to stock online and skip the KDZ part?
thanks

u can not do it online, cuz if u use the b2c tool it looks like it recognize your phone but if u press upgrade, there will be an error message something like this: connection error between the pc and the phone... thats the reason why u sohuld turn off your phone and use R&D test tool
and of course all the drivers needs to be installed on your pc
What I mean is immediate online update without R&D and KDZ like:
1. Boot to Recovery then wipe data, dalvik and cache partitions
2. Factory Reset
3. Online lg Official update
Is that safe?
thanks

U CAN NOT DO IT IF U ARE ON CM7!!!
b2c tool (online lg official update) doesnt recognize your phone.. (however it looks like it does when u connect your phone and start the tool. It shows there is available software update, but when u press the upgrade, ull see and error message : connection error between the pc and the phone or somethin' like this and can not continue.
U should use r&d (doesnt require hard reset...but i did to be on the safe side or kdz updater (which requires hard reset) as i mentioned above.

Tomorrow is the suposed release date for 2.3 in UK so will see what the excuse will be for not having it.
Or we might get UK flavour Gingerbread ( doubt it)
And to answear you question Yes!
As soon as there is update there will be KDZ files for download.

Eh so I'm quite new The Optimus Black (I just got it on last Saturday!!)
I really like the phone! And I was trying to update to Gingerbread but it tells me that it's already up to date (though it's obviously on Froyo 2.2.2)
So I started to search on the internet how to flash GB manually but in vain...
It's not working...
I tried with both R&D test tool and KDZ Updater...
I followed this Guide: http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-update-lg-optimus-black-to-android-2-3-4-gingerbread.html
But it's not working...
I doesn't show me the window to select Language & Country but this one (see attachment):
Please help.. Oh btw, could you recommend me what custom rom to install??
Thanks!!

Just reflash it, with the same tool, redownload the files, since they might be corrupted. And check if you chose them in the right order otherwise the bootloop is guaranteed
Hello,
I did a factory (provider endorsed) update to 2.3.4 v20i and I cannot seem to root the phone. I have read the noob article for optimus black and tried:
- gingerbreak
- unlockroot
- superoneclick
So basically, with the exploits being closed off in the recent versions, there is no simple way to root this version?
Regards,
Len
If you want to keep your current v20i then there is no already made root method but you can inject cwm using dd on linux . But if you just want to install a custom rom , here is a root method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1480392

Like the OP, I did the official LG update to 2.3.4 (v20i) and tried to use the method in the above link to root it and install a custom ROM. It didn't work because the Smartflash tool started the process and then stopped, saying 'Timeout error'. I searched the forums for a solution but no one else seemed to have the problem. I wasn't clear on why this was...maybe because they all rooted while on Froyo, or on a different V20 version.
Any help would be appreciated.
OK, I will reply to my own post as I ended up solving the problem
First, I am using a LG P970g on Canadian carrier Telus. It is known as the Optimus Black Skype Edition.
First, I downgraded my stock 2.3.4 ROM to a Froyo build (V10A EEU XXX) using SmartFlashTool. The ROM is in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
The previous .bin and .fls files I used were from a more recent ROM (March 2012) while the one in the above link is May 2011. Using this older one allowed me to downgrade using SFT without problems.
I then rooted using Gingerbreak, and used ROM Manager app from the app store to install CWM. Rebooted into CWM and installed the custom ROM I wanted from my SD Card.
Took me a long time to figure this out, but I did it. Very pleased.
Check my noob how to, there is a way, of how to root EVERY ROM in the 3rd post.

I have a question about that post. It seem to require that the firmware in the phone be dumped out in kdz format (which LG Extract is mentioned to work on). There was some mention in some posts that that could be done using LG-Utils. The only LG Utils I can find is LG-Utils-0.4.2.zip but it seems to be for KP500 (KP500-Utils-EN.exe) and KS360 (KS360-Utils-EN.exe). Is this the right LG Utils? If so which exe is to be used and what command and parameters needs to be entered to get the kdz file to be used with procedure you mentioned?
Thanks,
Len
Read the guide, there is even a link to that utility and you simply need to download your firmware in kdz format, from lg or any other server

Yes, I read that post and the guide and that entire thread. The reason that I found your suggested method attractive was because you mentioned:
"To flash and actually root the SW, you need to follow THIS guide, from Step 2 on, and it will be perfectly rooted and you can be sure, that noone patched anything else in your software, cause you made it on your own."
The post and thread suggests to download the kdz file from lg-phone-firmware.com where the domain is registered to some guy named Vitiello Luigi
in France. I guess the stuff from this site is safe but it is less reassuring than getting it directly off my phone.
Len
I downloaded the kdz file for my firmware from lg-phone-firmware.com and was able to go through the process of getting a rooted version on the phone fine. The only brief head scratching moment was with the clock work mod reboot recovery menu system where when you invoke the commands which require confirmation (like installing superuser.zip) where the confirmation options show a bunch of 'No's and you have to scroll down to get to the one entry that says 'Yes'.
Len
No one's replying to my thread anymore and a post was deleted last week for some reason.. Anyway, I got my phone rooted too, same method, but had no network access, 3g or phone service, did you overcome that at all?

well I'm about to try rooting with some method or other. I too have the 20i telus ROM. I'm a tad perplexed. I've rooted many devices and for this one it seems rather convoluted. ...a bit daunting to say the least. In any event will try the suggested method in this thread and will report with results. This device is for the moment my main daiLy so if I lose network I'll be back to an old flip phone, and you don't need me to say how awful that would be... LOL

Thanks!. I used SFT on another LG, was easy as pie.
So, SFT will flash whatever you feed it to the device and wipe it (it's a nandroid)? BUT can flash ROMs only if they are in proper bin/fls format?
If so that makes sense. Little confused by all the options/non-options for rooting v20i/2.3.4, and I don't care to keep what version I have to get root. I just want to be able to use custom ROMs on my black.
Sorry for all the questions - I don't fully understand the LG roms/system yet.

Seems like it automatically starts install some rom images.
Try to delete all the rom image or backups (backup your SD first) that you have in your sd.
But first of all try to use QuickBoot app instead the RomManager app.
It's free and you find it in Play store.
Bye

..first check if you have the stock recovery yet like Xonar says..
..second, try to download again the recovery from RomManager's menu (don't know if ics OB is supported) and retry..
If nothing happens..maybe it's better if you flash the stock V20x with the CWM already injected and then install the flashable V30B that you can easily find in the developement section.

You don’t have to search for stock recovery(probably you never find it )..I think Xonar want to know if you had already installed the Clockworkmod or not..because some time ago there where some problems to inject the CWM in the stock V30B rom.
(if you installed the V30B rom with smartflashtool you surely do not have the recovery and you must pass throught the V20x)
I wish had posted the link of the resources you need but I can’t ‘cause I am a new user too

Hi everyone!
First of all, sorry if this as been asked, tonight my Google skills didn't help me find an answer.
A friend of mine owns a LG Optimus 2X (P990) bought from Fido in Canada. Currently she's on Gingerbread and would like to update to ICS (which is the latest stock rom available from what I read)
She wouldn't get the software update OTA so she tried downloading the LG Updater software from LG directly. The software detects the phone and says an update is available.
At some point, a popup appear suggesting to make a backup. So far, everything is fine. Once the backup is done and she click the "Start upgrade" button, she gets this error message : "An Unsupported operation has been attempted"
Anyone ever seen this before? Is there a way to upgrade her phone without using the LG software?
Since it's not my own phone, I would prefer not rooting it.
If rooting is really the only solution? What would be a good guide to read to do the update? (I did read a few sticky posts... 1 is the all in one tool kit... it explains each feature, but is not really a guide and I still have some questions unanswered after reading it. The other guide I read, the download links are broken)
Thank you

Alright, that didn't help at all.
First of all, I wanted to flash a stock ROM... the guide tells us to install CWM and we got stuck at the part where we have to flash the ROM because it would seem CWM won't take the KDZ (or bin/fls) files.
Now we can go to the SW Upgrade mode without the battery, but the smartflash utility time out after 3 minutes and end on an error.
We can also go to CWM with the battery... but with no apparent way to flash a stock rom.
We're stuck at the moment.
Edit : So in the end we flashed only the BIN file instead of both BIN and FLS. No more errors and the phone rebooted correctly under ICS! Yay!

It's fixed! We didn't flash the FLS file (which would be the baseband?) but the phone still booted properly and connected properly to the cell phone provider.
