Now I am not talking TiB with I think means Titanium Backup...
I sent my Captivate in for a warranty repair (camera had artifacts on the lens). On the latest status update of the repair they state that 3 items were replaced:
"REPLACED TIB,CAMERA AND BATTERY"
So... anybody know what a TIB is
"Throw it Back" yelled the crowd when I caught the other teams home run

Touch Input Board?
No idea, but I sent my phone in for random shutdowns and they replaced the TIB also. Since I got it back (24hrs granted...) the problem seems to be fixed. Was getting a shutdown every 4hrs or so before.
Not sure exactly what the TIB component is but this is Samsung's Official fix for the random shutdown issue.
My Captivate has been solid for over 7 weeks since the "TIB" component was replaced.

lol, best answer in thread!
In all seriousness I think Touch Input Board is a likely candidate, but I would like to know the official definition.
The phone is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. If I get any more information I will post here.
I just got my phone back. Working camera and it looks like I have a new MAC address, too!
Since the MAC address is hard-coded into the hardware I assume that the TIB has something to do with that.

Yep. Has the same exact bubble on the screen protector. Not to mention the same label on the inside with the S/N.

Wow, crazy. I wonder if changing the MAC address is related to the new TIB (whatever that is) or if they reset it through software?
Not sure. Why I think it is related to the TIB is because I did an Oden flash before sending my phone to Samsung. The WiFi worked before I sent in the phone.
When I got it back I spent a good 30 minutes trying to figure out how to connect the phone on the WiFi again Including another Oden flash. I eventually realized I should see if the MAC address changed (I have a MAC access list on my router) because the phone could find the SSID, but could not connect.
Sure enough it was a different MAC address.

Wow, wild. Maybe the TIB is related to the hardware side of the modem/radio and opposed to software. Either way, glad you got it fixed.
Sent my Captivate in after fully bricking it (shhh, don't tell Samsung ) and this same thing came up. Hopefully this fixed it (didn't say anything either way, just said it was replaced).
TiB is a Tebibyte or 2^40 bytes or 1,099,511,627,776 bytes. Maybe they installed the new prototype 1 TB microSD card in your Captivate.
Nook has been acting strange lately I am running cm7 off SD.
It now seems to wake up by itself every morning while it is charging and on a few occasions I have found it playing a video using Moboplayer app. I uninstalled moboplayer yesterday and today it was at the dir screen for my E S File explorer app for videos and pictures.
Getting paranoid that someone is accessing by wifi. Is this possible?
Possible. Likely, no. Check your logcat.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Don't have a clue what logcat is or how to use it.
Maybe someone could clue me in so I have a better understanding how wifi and my nook color works. ie: Does someone have to access by way of the address on my router? If I go on my laptop wifi I cannot see anyone else's equipment just their router and whether it is open or password protected. I have assumed my equipment is the same and someone would have to access my routers wpa password to get to the Nook but maybe not I have no clue about this stuff.

Hello, I hope someone can help me. I have a Nook HD, set up for the UK, and I have set it up, added my accounts, etc. Everything is working well, except for the "Your Nook Today" screen. When I open it, it gives me the following message:
Recommendations and today's weather are waiting for you, but you need to connect to the Internet first.
SIMPLY TAP THE WIFI ICON AND CONNECT TO A NETWORK TO CONTINUE.
The Nook is connected to my home wifi network, and I have also tried it using a portable hotspot on my mobile phone, with the same result. I purchased the original tablet on 31st August, which had this issue, and the replacement arrived today (3rd September) with the same issue.
Has anyone come across this issue before, and is there a solution for it? Nook have offered to replace it as faulty, but given that two identical devices have had the same problem, I don't think a third one would sort it out.
My home wifi is working fine, as I am using it to connect this laptop I am typing this message on. Added to which, the Nook is connected to it, and all the downloads work fine. It is connected to my email, and Google Play, etc, as well as to my Nook account.
Any ideas folks?
By the way, it is fully stock, with no root, CWM, etc.

Hi Ursula, I'm experiencing the same problem, read the responses you've had on a couple other sites, just wondered if you'd managed to get this sorted?
Stuart.
Sorry Stuart, I had my second one replaced with a third one, and that has the same problem. I contacted Nook again via their online chat, and they have acknowledged that others have this problem too. This seems to be a server problem within Nook and they are looking into it. They will get back to me when they have a solution.

Ah, that's a pain, although good to know that they have acknowledged it and are investigating, fingers crossed it'll be up and working again soon!
I just bought the HD version yesterday and also have the same problem, so it seems a widespread issue.

Same problem here on 1 x 16GB Nook HD and 2 x 8GB Nook HD's (bought in the UK last week).
I've emailed Nook support who suggested trying to connect to a different wi-fi network but that hasn't fixed the issue.
Don't think I'm missing much, but still irritating.
I first tried my own home router, in England and my android hotspot, also in England. Now I'm at my in-laws house in Northern Ireland, and it doesn't work here too. As you say Finster14, not a major issue, but irritating.

I've just finished chatting online to Nook, as there is no call centre to ring. They are now saying that it may (only may) be fixed in a new update. However, they did not say when this update would happen, nor did they say that the next update will definitely fix it. I tried to narrow the adviser down to a guesstimate on timescales, and was told that it may be a couple of months, but they were not sure about that.
It all seems very vague. They don't know how the problem started, what the nature of the problem is, why it only affects certain Nook tablets, and how long it will take to fix it (assuming it can be fixed). My partner's Nook HD was bought before mine, and his has none of these problems. I am currently re-downloading the same firmware from the Nook site, in the vain hope that it will fix the problem. I expect it will make no difference, but I can only try, and see what happens. The link for the firmware is below, and works for both sizes of the Nook HD (the 8gb and 16gb versions). It will not work on any other Nook device, but the website has the firmwares for other devices.
http://uk.nook.com/support/nook-hd-software-updates
I got a firmware update a few days ago to version 2.2.0. I hoped this new firmware would solve the "Your Nook Today" problem; but no such luck. Nook online can offer no further help to resolve this problem, so I am no further forward.
Kindle Fire HD 16gb
I bought a KFHD on ebay, and the wifi option is greyed out in the menu (in the original AmazonOS).
I installed CM10.1 and have android 4.2.2 running....same thing, stuck in "turning on Wi-Fi" mode...
I checked the antenna cable, and scanned the board for any anomalies or damage - it looks very clean.
Battery is full.
Can the chip just go dead on these things, is there any electrical tests that i can try to confirm it?
thanks
Does the Bluetooth not want to turn on as well?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
Bluetooth is working, and everything else about the device seems to function as normal. I'm stumped.
That is weird, I think Bluetooth is on the same chip as WiFi on the kfhd's, try plugging the kindle into your PC with adb enabled and running "adb logcat" and watch the output for any errors when enabling the WiFi, if that still doesn't show anything useful try "adb shell dmesg", it might tell you if the kernel is having errors with the device. I thought this could be related to your boot0 block at first but if Bluetooth works then a I doubt thats the problem. You did wipe system, cache, and dalvik cache and do a factory reset when you flashed cm right?
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
I had the same issue when on 7.4.3. Restore to Amazon's android version and make sure you are on 7.4.6, it worked for me. Is there a way to keep TWRP, however. That is the question.
Thanks guys, I'm still stuck.
@stunts503
I've done system wipe, cache and dalvik cache wipe and a factory reset - several times.
I'm not great with the sdk or adb, but i manually installed Catlog and when i try to turn on the Wifi, these are some of the errors I get:
"Unable to change interface settings: java.lang.IllegalStateException: command '61 interface setcfg wlan0 0.0.0.0 0 down' failed '400 61 Failed to set address (No such device)'"
"n180211: Could not configure driver interface"
"could not read interface wlan0 flags: no such device"
"wlan0: Failed to initialize driver interface"
these messages coming from "wpa_supplicant"
@x10knight
I reverted back to amazonOS, and installed 7.4.6 ... problem is still there. no change.
It's like the wifi chip isn't there, but if you're right if infact the bluetooth lives on the same chip, it must be working somehow... unless the bluetooth is a different chip, can't seem to answer that....
the bluetooth works, but also gives an error
"SOCK FLAG = 0"
"SOCK FLAG = 1"
"SOCK FLAG = 3"
not sure where to go from here, maybe i could peel back the RF shielding and take a look? solder splash?
thanks guys
Wow that is weird, I wonder if someone knows exactly why the WiFi isn't showing up, seems like that might be the problem, like the module didn't load up because the device wasn't detected. Interesting... Hopefully someone might know why its doing this. If you know what your doing you could peruse the /dev directory and see if u can even find the WiFi device, think that's the directory on android.

Have you tried switching the security setting on your router? Also, have your power cycled your router yet? Often times this has been due to the router not playing nice with your KFHD.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM 10.2 using xda app-developers app
Don't know how to get to /dev right now, will have to look that up.
I don't think this is related to my router in anyway, the kindle just doesn't see the wifi chip at all.
thanks again
OK basically its not loading up the interface, when it can't find wlan0, that means the WiFi interface is missing so a driver hasn't been loaded for it, usually because its not being detected. /dev is a folder on the root of the storage device, you can peruse it with a program like es file explorer, the files you see in that folder aren't actually files, but devices, and you can even query them as if they were files with Linux commands, its a very interesting perspective on seeing your devices compared to windows. Anyways I don't know where to look in the dev directory for the WiFi device offhand, but if its in there then that's a good sign.

If you cannot get it working, You might do full restore. I don't know if flashing the original Amazon OS to the second bootloader will suffice. Might need to go full stock and after wifi is working, reroot and so on.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM 10.2 using xda app-developers app
I have already done a full restore a few times - with no change . thanks for reply.
Go into either an adb shell on your PC, or into a mobile terminal app on your kindle(you will have to side load it), once you have a form of shell up type "netcfg" if it reports wlan0 in the list of interfaces report back with that if not try browsing your file system and see if this folder exists, I believe its the WiFi device folder, but its kinda hard to know for sure because I'm more used to conventional Linux than android so the device paths are a bit different. Anyways check for this path: /sys/class/net/wlan0
If that exists then that either means the physical device is there, or I misunderstood and those are the device files showing up from the driver loading up on mine. Gunna peruse the /sys folder a bit more and see if I find anything noteworthy, I'll report back if I find anything else.
Edit: After some more perusing I think if you type lsmod into the shell, if you see a module in the list called "bcmdhd", then that I think is the Linux driver module for the device, if that's not loaded up we know another part of the problem.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
types in netcfg, i do not get any wlan0 mention, only a list of (lo, ifb0, ifb1, tun10,sit0,ip6tn10) all of them then say DOWN, except for lo, which says UP and has an address.
the command "ismod" doesn't seem to work..... after googling i tried 'insmod' incase thats what you mean, which only reports
"usage: insmod <module.o>"
thanks again, this has been informative.
also, i navigated to /sys/class/net/ and wlan0 does not exist...
I'm thinking this is a hardware issue, i may peel back the RF shielding and take a look at it...
That wasn't an I it was a lowercase L. But yea it seems like a hardware problem I'm thinking, don't known how that happens... Still try running lsmod again and see if you see what i mentioned. If you can't fix the hardware, maybe when/if hashcode ever gets otg working you could use a WiFi dongle. xD
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
sorry, i'm a dingus. always wanted to learn linux, maybe a good time to start.
put in lsmod, and got:
bcmhd 319072 0 - Live 0x00000000
atmel_mxt_ts 18503 0 - Live 0x00000000
pvrsrvkm_sgx540_120 308606 60 - Live 0x00000000
Well that's weird to say the least, I think the WiFi driver is loaded, unless that is the Bluetooth driver. I wish there was a lscpi command for android, but even if there was, it would be pointless because I am pretty sure mobile devices don't have a PCI bus. I mean obviously there is no PCI slot, but some times integrated things are on a PCI bus.

I have same issue on a FK2. Reading through threads led me to think it could be software related. I'll pull dmesg to see where driver is loaded in bootup. I do show a MAC in the idme, but not on the kindle screen.
UPDATE: Walked through trying to setup wifi manualy, no device found. Did find another thread mentioning same issues after Kitkat update. User wiped System and wifi worked afterwards. I'll give it a try tonight to find out if its a software issue.
I have two Nook HD 7s that I rooted using leapinlar's instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500. They work well except when the kids get on the network together the devices appear to have the same ID, so the router appears to be assigning the same IP address to both of them. The result is the two kids can't be on at the same time. Anyone heard of anything like this before?
I don't remember for sure, but when I did the root and CM10.1.3 on emmc, I backed up one and then may have used that backup to do the 2nd tab. Would that cause this issue?
I don't have the devices with me right now, but thought I'd ask anyway. I'll have them later to troubleshoot "hands on".
Thanks. They've been working fine for months otherwise...
Two possibilities come to mind:
1) The first device had been set to use a static IP address on your Wifi network, and that got copied to the second device when you restored the backup to it. Fix would be to change the fixed IP address on the second device, or use DHCP.
2) Another possibility (though I don't know if this would actually happen) is that the second device ended up with the same MAC address as the first device following the restore. That would mean that the router would not be able to differentiate between the devices and it would just keep handing out the same IP address whenever either device asked for one. If that does turn out to be the case then I think you might have to take the second device back to its stock ROM and then re-install CM10.1.3 from scratch, rather than by restoring a backup from the first device.

If you installed the backup to another device they will have the same MAC Address. The solution is to go to /system/etc/firmware/ti-connectivity and delete the wl1271-nvs.bin file. When it reboots it will rebuild that file with the correct MAC Address.
