I'm a very happy owner of a rooted NC and have been following the progress of the Nook Tablet, planning to get one when the cm team puts out a rom for it.
Today I see that the Asus Transformer will be $250 at Best Buy for Black Friday.
I haven't been following the Transformer so I'm not very familiar with it. A quick look at the cm and xda forums doesn't seem to show any roms for this device so that is a concern.
Is this tablet a better buy than the Nook Tablet for the same price? Note I'm talking about a NT with cm on it, not a base device.
Would it be worth the hassle of dealing with Black Friday at Best Buy?
@ $250 get the Transformer if you can, you get HDMI out, Camera and GPS, just to name a few of the advantages.
The Transformer it's a top notch tablet.
It is bigger, faster, fully capable tablet.
Honeycomb feels elegant and sophisticated compared to CM7.
I bought the keyboard dock and spend about 50/50 with and without the keyboard.
The Nook has size advantage when it comes to taking it anywhere in my purse but I love both equally.
Battery life is excellent. I got mine for $300 but I am glad I won't be standing in line to get one for $250

I realize I wouldn't be rooting the transformer. Just wondering how the two devices would compare. Thanks for all the input so far.
Would the transformer be in line for an ICS upgrade?

What? There is root/recovery/ROMs out for the device.
Transformer is lightning fast compared to the Nook. I have both including the dock and I have stopped using my Nook except for reading. Just a way better experience.
The TF (Tegra 2) is about on par with the Nook Tablet (OMAP 4430) for general computing, but is much worse than the NT for video playback.
The TF has HDMI out, but has no USB port. To get USB, you need to buy the dock, which I understand is $100. The dock does add a keyboard along with an extended battery, but it also adds weight. Effectively, with the dock, the TF will be an underpowered $350 netbook with detachable screen. The hybrid setup tends to be a love-hate situation. I myself prefer use of a BT keyboard that can be used for any tablet.
The TF has an IPS screen, but build quality is somewhat iffy, with speakers going out and various other ailments. Per freq of problem reports in the various Tegra 2 tabs' forums, it's about on par with the Acer Iconia, and less reliable than the Xoom or the Samsung GT.
As of this moment, the latest TF B70 stepping is still unrootable, ever since Asus changed its SBK (secure boot key). I wouldn't count on rooting the TF, since the issue has been around since August.
The TF will likely get official ICS upgrade some time early 2012.
IMO, it depends on your use. If you want an integrated keyboard, then the TF ($350 w/ keyboard) is better. It also has a larger screen, which is better for certain uses and certain people, eg older users.
I don't think it's a "better-worse" decision, since the TF and NT are different enough with little overlap. BTW, the TF has been periodically on sale at $300 for a while, so basically you'll be doing the fight-the-stampede deal for $50.
$250 is a pretty good price. If I wasn't going to get the tf prime I would pick one up.
You might be able to get it on cyber Monday online and not have to deal with the crazy people at black Friday sales.

I had no intentions of rooting the Transformer - it is great without it.
ASUS has already announced that they would be upgrading the Transformers to Ice Cream Sandwich.
I haven't had any issues with video but I don't intend to stream video to my TV; I have a Roku, a Sony Media Player and an LG Bluray all with wifi so I can stream from those.
IMO I think the ASUS Transformer is one of the best tablets out there and worth the $250 or $300 it costs.
Edit: ASUS has really impressed me with their willingness to issue OS updates for this device. I don't think any phones or other tablets have gotten as much love from the manufacturer.
Will they keep up with the updates now that the prime is coming out?
That is a great price. I have the NC and the TF. The TF is a full tablet running Honeycomb. Even without rooting it is a great experience. Much better than the CM7.1 on the NC. FWIW, Asus has provided great support on the TF. They just updated the firmware on Thursday. Some post have said that ICS is coming to the TF in January.
If comparing both as tablets then; the Transformer wins because it is usable as a HC tablet out-of-the-box with official G Market support plus the pending upgrade to ICS.
The NT will require aftermarket hacking and OSes to run as a tablet.
It will of course enjoy great developer support (here & elsewhere) assuming the 'SD card-boots-first' holds true to make it easier. I doubt if we see anything beyond Gingerbread on the NT.
However, dealing with the lines of people on frigid mornings outside BB is not worth it (IMO). It seems every year the lines keep getting longer and longer with people coming in at 9:00 p.m. the previous night. Just not worth it anymore.
I would rather get the NT for $250 and mess with it.
On a side note: I am excited about the NT since it comes with a dual-core, more ram and storage and a mic. I have 3 year extended coverage with ADH handling from ST. Hope my NC breaks down in the next 12 months; might get the NT as replacement....he he.
I thought about it, and after finding out the closest best buy is almost 2 hours away, I just said nah.
Plus, I'm dying to see if I can get the NT as a replacement in case something "terrible" were to happen to my NC lol.
Hi Everyone,
I plan on purchasing a 7 inch tablet for email, calendar, browsing, some light word and excel updating, and occasionally Netflix. While nice to have, I don't think the quad core processor provides any advantage for the apps I will use? Tablets such as the Samsung 2 7 that have a built in SD Card look nice and don't seem like they are suffering the same quality control issues the Nexus 7 is suffering. I had a really bad experience with the Transformer Prime and don't want to go down that path again.
Thoughts/Suggestions?
What nexus7 quality control issues?
Get some perspective......
One of the main advantages of the Tegra3 is the superior power management using the 5th CPU core

>I don't think the quad core processor provides any advantage for the [productivity] apps I will use?
Dual-vs-quad is mostly a marketing thing, like the old megahertz wars. For most operations, the Teg3 uses only one core (5th core, see video below) to conserve power. 3D gaming uses all 4 cores, which results in short battery life.
Most tablet use is not CPU-gated, except for hardcore gaming. Video playback nowaday has dedicated circuitry. In other words, if you don't do hardcore gaming, ignore SoC.
I think foremost criterion is screen size. A 7" is more portable, but for productivity (text-heavy) use, a 10" is more suited for its larger display. Would suggest a 10" for single-location use (ie in-home or at-work) and a 7" for mobile use. Best bet is to have one of each.
People tend to ask "what to buy," but a more useful question may be "when to buy." Now is not the best time to buy, as companies are just starting to roll out their wares for the fall shopping season.

I have used both the galaxy tab 2 and the nexus. The nexus is definitely faster and smoother. My nexus had the screen lift thing. Its getting RMAed. We'll see if the new one is better. From the tab 2s I have played with I haven't seen any defects really.

Mine is perfect, no issues what so ever and couldn't be happier with it. Seems people share complaints more than praise. This is my first tablet and have nothing to compare to but I haven't put it down very much since I received it Friday my phone finally gets a little break. I'm not big into games but I have a nephew that now loves my tablet because of the games. Guess it will be good entertainment when kids come over. Good luck, don't think you would be disappointed with this one.

[/COLOR]I like the nexus 7. Defects always happen with the launch of a new product. My tablet has defects. The nexus 7 is a great deal and their are some other new tabs due out soon that's as cost effective as this tab. nexus 7 will have better support and faster updates. You need to research and figure out what it is you need. The only dual core tab that will out perform the tegra 3 is probably the samsung enyos 2 ghz tab that doesnt exist in real world yet.

I have a Samsung galaxy tab 10.1 with dual core cpu and the nexus 7 with quad core. The performance is night and day. Whether that is due to software or hardware or both, I don't know. All I can tell you is that the dual core tablet is very rarely getting used, and I like the nexus 7 so much I ordered a second one as a gift for someone else. Mine is perfect, absolutely no quality issues, though it did give me a scare once taking longer than expected to reboot. And based on the ifixit rating, and the popularity of the device, this one will be around much longer than the other tablet, simply because it will be possible for me to fix it, if it breaks after it's out of warranty.

Jelly bean has a lot to do with smoothness. Having a Galaxy Nexus upgraded to JB, it makes a big difference.
There is big noticeable differences between this and the Transformer running ICS but I haven't upgraded it to JB to do direct tests.

Think about it, a poll in a place where people with issues would come is not going to reflect the actual numbers. It will be heavily skewed.

The pre-arrival population was already large enough compared to the size of the polls that I find it hard to believe 50% of them would've come from nowhere, rather than having been randomly selected from said population.
I'm still interested to know where this poll with low rates was.

To provide the background on the Transformer Prime, I received one with really bad wifi. Throughput was painful from 1 floor away from my router and I had a little bit of screen bleed, but I was ok with the screen bleed, it was the wifi that mad it unusable. I received really bad support from Asus, that was the tipping point that made me return the product.
I ended up with an iPad and it mostly works great, but I like the 7 inch form factor and I am curious if Android will provide more functionality with google apps that I'm already using for my business.
I keep going back and forth, but now I'm leaning towards the nexus as the problems being reported are not being reported as much anymore and this seems to have a lot of development interest.
Thanks again everyone.
The TF Prime lol. That thing was a nightmare and a complete design fault failure.

If development is a big factor for you then get a Nexus and never look back. The Nexus devices will always have tbe latest and grestest softwsre cause it comes straight from google. Good luck with the other OEMs as you could wait months to years for official updates.
I'm thinking about buying anexus7 . do you guys think it is still a good buy? Should I wait? I like the idea of a nexus 10 but the dual core CPU compared to a quad to me does not seem right. Suggestions?

Quad core does not 'always' mean better than dual core. If I had a chance (the money) to buy a nexus 10, I definitely would.
In my opinion android isn't even optimized properly for quad core, its not needed.... My nexus 7 VERY rarely needs to put use to more than two cores. The two cores of the nexus 10 are powerful ones
Not saying the nexus 7 isn't still worth buying. If I didn't have a nexus 7, I'd still end up buying one its a great device and does everything I need easily, while having a smaller screen size. (Which is perfect for me)
Press thanks if I helped ~ Nexus7/ParanoidAndroid/M-Kernel

The n7 is awesome. Period. If you want more awesome....spend way more, or wait for new devices.
Honestly ....people keep asking this, and its up to you. I bought one at Christmas cause its cheap and arguably the best 7" out there.
Budget, desperation and size preferences make this an apples to oranges discussion.

^ this. already into march, a case could certainly be made for holding off a few months until new devices are unveiled, like the much anticipated successor to the nexus 7 (this would be my course of action if i didn't already have an n7). but if you need a tablet now, you can't really beat throwing down $200 for this beast.
I disagree on the N10. Power wise, the Dual core snapdragon is faster... but since it is pushing that insane resolution, it is about the same speed, or laggier, then the N7.
This is why I think uber high resolutions are a waste. Useless number game with no benefit. Just a waste of resources.
The N10 has some nice features like HDMI out but 7" and price is right on the N7. The N7 has a super high DPI. Don't upgrade something that doesn't need upgrading.
This is why the Transformer 300 is faster then the Prime, different res.
I'd buy the N7 again... and I did. We have 4 of them. And I just bought 30 for a job.

For me the N7 hits my sweet spot in terms of performance, prize and size! :good:
I'm in the same boat. I know I definitely want a Nexus tablet to replace my crappy PlayBook but I think I'm going to hold off to see what is unveiled at Google I/O before making a decision. If a successor is released I will buy that instead.
I was thinking about selling my TF700+Dock for a Nexus 7, but then again the Nexus 7 Successor should be coming out later this year. May just wait for that.
Will miss the Transformer though because of the keyboard dock (extra batt life) and it propping the screen up for viewing. Just couldn't stand the laggy IO of the TF700 though. I was reading a few other threads on here about the current Nexus 7's IO being a bottleneck, but I'm sure it's nowhere as bad as the TF700s.

I agree! I love the size of this. It's basically pocketable, even with the Sharkk keyboard case I bought. I haven't touched my iPad in three weeks since I bought it.
What's with all these "Should I buy?" threads?
Look. If you want to buy it, buy it. If you don't, then don't. How are we supposed to know your needs and what you'll be using it for? Watch some videos (there are around 3 million on YouTube) for the N7 and make the choice yourself. It's just a $200 tablet, not an Aston Martin DBS.

Hi, after owning the asus TF201 for over a year now, I also wanted to change to the nexus 7 3g.
I had several problems with the TF201 (laggy wifi, laggy bluetooth, no gps, bad overall performance). During the last year I started hating asus for this design flaw.
Now i noticed, that the N7 is also produced by asus. Should I really try another product of this company?
However, yesterday I wanted to set my order.
Fortunately I found some posts about a stuttering when streaming the audio by bluetooth and additional wifi usage. Some have this stuttering, some others report that their wifi-speed drops near zero.
For me that all sounds like the same strange problems I had with the TF201 (always thought the only reason for my problems was the aluminium-case of the TF201).
Now I'm really dissapointed. The benefit of the N7 3G would be the mobility and the additional connectivity.
I also know that the nexus is a really cheap device. Nevertheless the main-functions should work.
What do you think is the reason for this bluetooth audio stuttering? Software based or really a crappy hardware (I trust asus wouldn't mind).
It all depends. I don't remember reading about a lot of people having Bluetooth problems on a stock device. Those of us who have it are the ones usually on custom ROM's. For example I'm on Paranoid Android 3+ and it's known to have Bluetooth issues. There is also a fix for it but I didn't bother as I never use Bluetooth.
Bottom line is, most people don't have these problems. What you're reading here is a great majority of people who only have problems. That's why they're here, because they're looking around for help. Millions of users I'm sure are perfectly happy with their N7's.
I have had a TF700 for exactly 1 year and 2 months, but two weeks ago the motherboard got fried due to my stupidity and I decided I needed a new tablet. The 700 CROMIX served me well and it had done everything I wanted it to with a few frustration.
I looked at the Samsungs, Kindles, Google Nexus 10, and the TF701. After a week of looking at all these I decided that
- Samsung was too expensive. Nice machines, but I was just not willing to pay the difference
- Kindles are also nice but a little small for me and I felt like I would always be fighting the Amazon controls they put on the device. HW wise it was the lightest machine with the best screen.
- Google Nexus 10 seemed a little too similar to the 701 and it had a little lesser specs (CPU and no MicroSD). Maybe I would wait for the NEW version, but it did not look like it is coming anytime soon (hopefully summer) and my guess is that it will be in the $500+ range
- So since the 701 has a better screen, better CPU, and very attractive price ($359 at amazon), I decided to go with it
Got the tablet and really did not wait: Upgraded to 4.3, Unlocked the bootloader, and installed CROMiX 6.0.1a on it. 20 minutes and I was good to go. I was really surprised how much faster than my 700 it is. I knew that the 1.9MHZ is better than the 700's 1.6 but I had the 700 overclocked and with the increased resolution, I expected they would be close. But the performance difference is really noticeable. I cannot comment on CROMiX vs the Stock in terms of how much the performance improvement is the optimized ROM because I did not really run the stock long enough. But this thing just flies. Boat browser with flash works great. My 16GB MicroSD worked great, the restore from Titanium worked great. My Nova settings were there and worked without trouble. Netflix does not stutter at all or Google movies or Mx Player. The battery was horrible after my first charge (lasted less than 8 hours) but also I was messing with it the whole time. After that, it looks like it goes about 2.5-3 hours per 1% in sleep and I would say it is a bit better than my 700 while on. The ROM has a "reading mode" that seems to slow down battery consumption while reading my Kindle app, but I am not sure how much better it is.
Just wanted to share my experiences with the TF701. Not saying it is the best machine out there, but for the price, I am very happy and cannot imagine the added cost for the other models would buy me that much. All the features of the 700 with the added performance and better screen. Very happy.

My last tablet was the TF101 so I cant complain. My reasoning was the same as jhermit. Its the 701 just happens to be the one. With its high resolution, reflections, and so on. A good buy. The Samsung was the white one everywhere. Otherwise I would have gotten it. The white color really through me off of buying it. Can't figure that one out.
The TF701T keeps dropping in price, it may be the one to get.

I also have upgraded and have a few thoughts to add.
1. The docking station is all plastic, where the tf700t was metal. The plastic seems cheaper and typing and using the touchpad sounds plasticy, but the keyboard does type a bit easier.
2. The USB port on the base station is very very tight. I feel like I'm going to break it when I'm inserting and removing plugs.
3. The lack of vibration in the tablet is a bit of a let-down. I would have preferred to have the option.
4. The Micro USB port on the tablet is very tight and hard to get a card back out. It might be specific to my unit, but it's still an issue for me.
5. There are better brightness and performance options on the tf700t, but that may be part of the older OS as well.
6. The tablet dock hings has a lot more play/wobble in it. I read elsewhere that this was a design reason but it's floppy when I'm carrying the tablet around with the screen open.
7. Chrome was brutally bad on the tf700t; laggy, slow to load things, etc on both stock and custom ROMs. It appears that the extra horsepower in the tf701t has taken care of that problem.
So far so good on the custom ROM with xposed framework settings. I've restored all settings using Titanium Backup and am happy with it so far.
I got the TF701 a couple days ago (no keyboard) and it's great, I see no down side at all yet and I still have the TF700 running better than it ever has with Crombi-kk. [emoji41]

I don't use the camera on the tablet that much too but for a supposed upgrade of a particular model, one wouldn't expect specs to scale back right? At least stay as is if not increase spec.

If you are going to keep costs down why not go cheaper on the one part 99% of users will never use Seriously who uses the back camera on their tablet?

Take a trip to a top tourist destination, marvel and cringe!
I work in tourism and I see more of them every month! And all of them look utterly, totally stupid if you ask me.
The only thing worse are telescopic extensions handles for the iPhone with some kind of trigger build into it's handle to take pictures and videos. Saw about a dozen of those **** in Las Vegas the other night. And for some reason I'm totally convinced that 99.9% of those pictures land in the recycling bin.... Or they should....

Unfortunately not - they have different connectors.
No, connection differs, keyboard as well as charger and datacables differ.

Actually that kind of makes sense as the 701 has USB3.0 on the KBD Dock.
Currently on a TF201
I'm currently on a TF201 Transformer Prime that I've had for about two years now. I't currently running Crombi-KK quite nicely but...I'm looking for something else. I've pretty much narrowed things down to either a Galaxy Tab Pro 10.1 or the TF 701. There aren't a lot of reviews out there on the Tegra 4 based devices while of course the Enyos 5420 in the Galaxy tab is unique to Samsung. Have any of you had the opportunity to try both devices? Has anyone had an opportunity to use both a Tegra 4 (like the TF701) and a Snapdragon 800 based device. what little I'm finding seems to say that performance wise it would be 1. snapdragon 800, 2. Enyos 5420 and 3. tegra 4 ....but also that the differences aren't that great???
Right now I'm seeing the TF701 on Amazon for $354 and the Samsung for $399 so the prices are not that far off. On the other hand I always loved the keyboard dock on my Prime and with the TF701 I could have that again...for $130 on Amazon taking the total cost to $484. Of course with the Samsung I'd probably end up with some sort of Bluetooth keyboard, so in the end, when the accessories I would want are factored in, they cost about the same. (EDIT: I see that the Samsung is only 16 GB storage while the Asus is 32 - advantage Asus except that the Samsung has a micro SD slot and I've got a couple of 64 GB Sandisk Ultras kicking around so that probably isn't critical)
On the pro side the Asus is known unlockable (correct me if I'm wrong) where the Samsung probably isn't??? With my Prime, I stuck with it locked until the warranty ran out then unlocked it and put Hairy Bean on it and more recently Crombi-KK. So having those options available for the future is also a plus.
On the down side, as much as I have loved my Prime, its always had some annoyances. My WiFi was never as bad as others complain of but its never been great either. Sitting in my living room with my router almost directly under me on the floor below, my Motorola phone and my wife's HP laptop get right around the full 30 Mbps we have incoming from our ISP. My prime gets 8 - 10 Mbps which should be adequate most of the time except...the lag loading web pages. Hariy Bean and now Crombi-KK seem to improve things, but my phone (Morotrola Droid Maxx on Android 4.4) is still way smoother. Of course the GPS never really worked very well - which would be a big problem for me on a phone but not such a big deal on the tablet. Has Asus managed to correct those things on the TF701? While the Tegra 4 sounds good, I wouldn't want to have a tablet where they just stuck a faster CPU in the same old device.
Guess what I'm really looking for is a new Transformer Prime that's both faster and corrects all the annoyances I've had with the TF201. Does the TF 701 accomplish that? Given that the Samsung is about the same price when I include the accessories I want, does that change your opinion?

Just go ahead and choose the TF701! I did not have older asus tablets, but from the comments I have read since this forum was launched, all the issues that older Asus tablets had were solved. However, I would advise you to make sure that the keyboard you are going to buy is built recently ( ??/2014). Some people are experiencing disconnections between the dock and the tablet. For me I have a 09/2013 build but fortunately everything works as it should
I'm looking into purchasing a Nook HD+ tablet. I've played with it in store and it seems like a great buy, especially for the price. I'm a college student and would be using it mostly to view textbooks, take notes, and light game/movie usage. I'm looking for an under $200 tablet and I think the size is perfect (I'm not a fan of 7" tablets). Overall it seems almost too good to be true.
The reviews are mostly positive from what I've seen, but I'm really curious on the longevity of the tablet.
How long have you had yours, how do you feel about it/was it worth buying, and how well is it running after how long you've had it?
Thanks!

Longevity seems pretty good my wife's is a year old no issues still working great. My first one lasted about 7 months and then it lost a fight with a flight of concrete and steel stairs, any tablet would have failed believe me it was almost 20 feet of bouncing. My second one is a refurbished unit I have had it for about 6 months no idea how old it really is and it is working great still.
As far as light gaming and movie viewing it is awesome. I have the hdmi plug and use it to stream movies all the time. I read on it all the time I can't imaging you having an issue with text books as I read books, magazines, and comics all the time with no issues. There are faster devices out there but not at the same price.

Thanks for the prompt and helpful response! Have you noticed any sort of "lagginess" when you don't completely end a program (pull up the active program bar and swipe them away)? I was playing with one at Target and it was very laggy, but when I cleared out the dozens of apps that were currently open, it seemed to run more smoothly. Granted this thing has probably been abused for however long it's been on the display case and by many people, but I was just curious if you've had any sort of problem like this.
If you expect the same performance as an iPad you will be disappointed. It is about 90% in speed and polish for less than a third the price. I don't have much lag but I keep all my stuff (movies, books, music...) on the external card and I think this eliminates 90% of the lag others see.

Lag is normal for this tablet due to chipset. If you're willing to root, lagfix application fixes the issue by using trim. I run the latest cyanogenmod on my tablet and I love it. I read comics on it daily! Rooting, changing from stock rom to cyanogenmod 4.4 and lagfix, if you have the appropriate chipset makes this tablet a lovable beast of a beauty. I use it for word processing with a Bluetooth keyboard as well. Had it for 9 months and I love it. Would only stop using it for a nexus 10 level screen with an intense graphic processor and expandable storage. But honestly not looking to spend $600 for a tablet, so this is my go to device. I have a nexus 7 2012 that I honestly use solely to read novels and play a few Tegra processor based games. I like the 7 inch for reading novels, but use my Nook hd+ for everything else!

Have had mine for about a year. I rooted and flashed a custom ROM immediately. It is an OK tablet for average use with some lag. A good deal at the price but far from being a top product on the market

Thank you for all of your responses! To go along with my original question, how is the responsiveness to using a stylus for notes? Someone was telling me they didn't care for the ability to write on it, but they didn't provide much more detail than that. What are your thoughts? Especially with google play compatability, I'd think there are some good note taking apps (recommendations possibly?). I'd mostly be taking notes on top of PDF versions of slides my professors put out. Thanks again!
Using a stylus is not great at least the one I tried. My Note 2 is much better but then again that was built to use a stylus. Typing is very doable on it I do that in meetings all the time.

I will echo what the previous post said. Not that great with a stylus but as far as bang for your buck goes you can't beat this thing.

Does that depend on the app as well or just not good in general? Even with a pointier stylus than one of those wider ballpoints?
I only tried the one it is one of those freebies Amazon gives out with other things. I actually got it free with a case for a tablet I gave to my daughter. Works ok for general navigation. My mother in law uses the same type for everything on her nook she doesn't like using her finger but she doesn't do any type of note taking just reading and light game playing.

I have a Nook HD+ running CM11 and an LG G Pad 8.3 GPE. The former has an 8.9" screen but is sluggish even with trim, and the latter has an 8.3" screen and is silky smooth. As of last week the G Pad GPE is $225, so it's only a bit more than the HD+ (assuming it's still $180). I use the HD+ to read comics and the G Pad for everything else. My $0.02 on the HD+ and something similar.

Did you get the G Pad on sale? I'm seeing it from $279 online (best buy). I'm nearly positive I'm going to go with the HD+ though. I've been doing app research and I think I've found apps that'll fit my need on it and I don't need it to be super powered.
I did hear from a different forum somebody talking about being able to buy it, play with it during the return period, and then returning it if i don't like it. Is this true? Where would allow that? I would have thought that once it's opened, it can't be returned.
Barnes and Noble and Amazon both have really good return policies. Just double check when you buy it.

I've had mine for a year now and I'm fairly happy with it. Like some, I rooted and put CM on immediately. Performance is okay, if laggy at times, but the 1920x1280 screen is great.

Thank you for all of the help you've provided. I appreciate it greatly. I was talking with a colleague of mine about this and he brought up a good point about B&N getting out of the tablet game. Will there still be support/will I notice they even got out of the game? He was saying to watch out for it to soon become obsolete and be careful of hopping on the train right before the final stop.
What are your (and everybody's) thoughts on that?
Thank you again!
Pretty sure you're going to install CM on it soon as you get it, so no I don't believe you'll even notice the B&N are out of the game, as you put it
As the others say, there is a teeny bit of lag but the screen/battery life/sheer functionality you get more than make up for it.
One thing I sometimes wish for is GPS, but for the price really you're getting so much more than you're paying for.
They will continue to provide support through the warranty period and after that well you still have the forums here. The product works well enough as is and they haven't stopped selling content so it should be good for a while.

I bought 3 HD+ a year ago and all are still good running cm11. One is used as a DVR recording 2 cameras on motion to emmc. It's still alive but might break sooner (hope it doesn't).
The touchscreen is not that good, maybe because I use a screen protection.
Sometimes, alternating between apps (chrome, office) may be a bit slower. I used to use Swiftkey as custom keyboard, but aosps one is much lighter.
I've had my HD+ for a year and a half. Still loving it. Right now I'm running PAC-ROM on it and not having any real issues. I only update the ROM every month or so. But it's great for videos, surfing and reading. Still have no complaints about it and as long as trim keeps running, it doesn't lag too much.
