Root. Do whatever you want.
Need service? Flash stock before taking the phone to official service.
Same can be said about unlocking the bootloader.
But XperienceD is right, rooting DOES NOT VOID THE WARRANTY.

Wrong : The Free Software Foundation Europe argues that it is legal to root or flash any device. According to the European Directive 1999/44/CE, replacing the original operating system with another does not void the statutory warranty that covers the hardware of the device for two years unless the seller can prove that the modification caused the defect, accroding to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Android_rooting
So even if Sony, or the president of the usa, or Thor himself said that void warranty, that's not true.

I've been there personally. Took my Xperia S, another Xperia S, an X10, and an Arc to service.
All rooted no problems.
I even took my previous Xperia S bootloader unlocked to have the screen replaced. Totally forgot to lock the bootloader. They yelled at me because I wasn't covered by warranty, but they kinda know me already as I buy all my phones over there (they let me play with the Z Ultra too ), they spared my life and didn't charge the 150€ they charge for having the screen replaced without warranty.
Sony service is great here in Spain, if you take the phone personally. Not so much when you have to deal with delivery system.

Awesome.!! but the Sony service rep here in India are kinda dumb. But I can deal with it. Thanks a lot for your help guys

Haha sure do it, it's totally legal to root your phone, even in India.

So even phones with unlocked bootloader, they need to prove the damage is because of the software we used! Am I right in this?

Yes and no. The service that is in my city is very clear about this. What they told me is that they need to register te parts replaced with their software, maybe serial numbers to keep control what goes in and out,, but they can't do so with the bootloader unlocked as they cannot flash stock firmware with the tools they have.

Wrong, a phone with a locked bootloader can be flashed by any flash tool made for Xperia Z, it's only if you unlock the bootloader that they can't (SUS and PCC don't work on unlocked bootloader), and btw that void the warranty to unlock the bootloader.
And yes they need prove that the modification caused the defect if any.

"Cannot" as in never? or is this something that may change in the future? Because I just received my phone in the mail today, and this locked bootloader is very disappointing. I might just return this phone if unlocking is not an attainable option for me.

check the service menu. It will tell you if it allows you to unlock it or not. Its always worth a bit of reasearch about this before laying out £350 or getting into a 2 year contract....

It's the risk you take when you unlock it, so you won't know until you send it.

I was thinking since you have a hardware problem, they wont care if you have unlocked bootloader.

Note that if (I guess you haven't) done this before unlocking your Bootloader, this is nothing for you. Since it could only be done before unlocking.

You need a custom kernel. And to install one, you need an unlocked bootloader.. which will break your warranty on many cases, so be careful

Already unlocked my bootloader,
Sorry, I'm a rookie at android devices, where can I get a custom kernel
And what do i need to do after that?
EDIT: It seems we replied at the same time! haha.. nevermind what I said below then....
Also note that a lot of our Xperia T's bootloaders are NOT unlockable. There is a code you can dial on your phone to take you to a service menu where it will tell you if your bootloader is unlockable. If it says No, then your bootloader simply cannot be unlocked. Then you can join the many of us who patiently pray and wait for someone out there to crack or work around it

Look for a kernel in the XT Development section..
As far as I know, you need to flash it via Flashtool. But I still have locked bl, so you better ask someone with more experience

[Q] Unlock bootloader

Hey guys. I'm trying to unlock my booaloader of my Xperia Z C6603.
When I go to the service menu and check it says "Bootloader unlock allowed: No".
The point is, that I haven't bought my phone from a carrier, it's unlocked from factory and I don't know why I can't unlocked it
If it says "No", then it's permanently locked.
Did you purchase it brand new, directly from a store or used from a third party?

Then it's possible that the seller flashed generic software on a carrier supplied phone that they network unlocked before selling it to you.
You should contact Sony support and they should be able to confirm this if you supply your IMEI number.

Sorry to hear that.
Did the seller advertise it as an unbranded phone? Perhaps you can contact eBay to see if something can be done, even if it's some time after purchase. It's worth a try.

You cannot unlock a BL locked phone using flashtool.
If you want a different rom there are plenty of stock based custom roms just use the search function

It 100% won't work. You may soft brick the device, but most probably it will just fail with no adverse effect.
