I just downloaded Pocket Legends earlier today, and I've noticed that my Note gets unusually hot while I'm playing. This is a bit of a concern since this has never happened before with any other app I've used. Has anybody else experienced the same thing?
Thanks in advance, guys.
it's very normal during gaming. most of us experience excessive heating especially when games are HD. even a few minutes of play would cause heating..
Thank you for the reply. I'm curious though, will the excessive heat do any damage to the Note? (It can get quite hot at times)
Thanks again, and take care.

Till now it hasn't caused with even 2 hours of continuous HD gameplay. It got very hot...but no reports of something burning
I have an alarm that blares at me very loudly if the battery temp gets over 65C. I stop using it then!
I have only had it go off twice, once when I was playing a game, had a case on it (a pretty think one), and the back was being bathed in sunlight. It scared the bejesus out of me! The second time I was playing a game for several hours, no case. I bought the PC version instead!
I am currently using a GNEX that is now almost 2 years old so i am due for a new phone. So far the Xperia Z is at the top of my list followed by the HTC One.
However there is one thing that bothers me about the Z. The overheating issues i have been hearing about.
To current Z owners. How bad is this issue and has Sony explained what is causing this and if they intend to fix it?
I don't think there is an overheating issue. The phone back gets a bit hot under certain conditions but never has it affected my use. I have a feeling it is due to the tight packaging of the phone and the use of glass which causes this, but I really isn't an issue. Don't let that scare you away from the phone.

Yes, it is not a problem at all. Trust me. Also, I integrated the 3-phase thermal protection into my custom kernel and it works like a charm, keeping it cool all the time.
It does get warm rather quick but it is really only a warmth, not "hot". My old milestone 2 used to be permanently warm and quite hot when using it (especially internet use on 3g). My S2 was usually pretty cool, but got close to painfully hot when playing intensive games like modern combat. So far, the xperia Z hasn't got as hot as either of these phones for me.
The phone does get hot but only when using chrome so I'm sure its not an issue just a bug. I know that phones can get a little hot and I accept that but when I first experienced the heat coming from the top of the phone it was enough to worry me. I am however confident that it will be resolved so I'm not worried.
I really never heard that issue before...
Buy this and amaze

To be exact there is no such thing in the XZ as overheating. At least I did not hear of "overheating". Some phones tend to get a bit warmer during intensive tasks, but not excessive.
BTW, the difference between a bit warm and overheating is that overheating is actually a thermal "shock" that would usually lead to a restart of your device, or a smoking device.
well mine gets hot when i use the screen a lot. System Tuner shows me that the cpu gets up to 49 degrees. I'm really thinking of buying Cooler Master 212 for the cpu I'm really concerned about the cpu life.

This phone will be worth about $10 by the time the CPU is affected!
hope so !
Hi,
Just thought i would let you know. I had my Xperia Z three weeks. On sunday it was on charge and my phone rang. I took it off charge and answered the call.
The screen was extremely hot then it cracked in my ear. There are a few others that i know of on sony forums who reported this issue but Sony are refusing to replace my phone saying its not a "manufacturing issue".
Im left without a phone and starting legal action against them.

Really? Please let us know if you get anything from Sony in the lawsuit.
I also happen To have this issue, my phone gets got to the point it hurts my skin! I even use a case and the case gets really hot too
When i play S.surfers for about 45 minutes I see that the game doesn't run smoothly.Eventually the display also becomes warmer and that results that the display does not respond properly on my fingers.

with the latest firmware (.244) the phone runs even cooler than with the previous firmware (.423). Also, intensive games lag less.

Has anyone else with the new HTC One noticed this? I was testing it watching youtube videos and playing games such as Temple Run or Subway Surfer. Using Battery HD's template reference, I found my phone reached as high as 117°... It was getting pretty hot, and uncomfortable to touch.
Do I just have a bad unit or have you also experienced this?

I had two from Sprint and they both got hot. Just thought it was the typical CDMA searching for towers crap. I returned mine and am waiting for Tmobile to ship me two new One's.
I have an ATT HTC One and mine gets hot too..

Well your playing games lol
The whole backface is aluminum, and aluminum conducts heat nearly as well as copper. That's why most CPU heatsinks are made from aluminum (cost being the other factor).
I wonder if the phone isn't running hotter than any other phone, but it's able to conduct the heat away from the board faster/more efficiently than others who use plastic construction.
Interesting side-effect if true.

When running high intensity apps and games, it does run quite warm, nothing too uncomfortable though.
Well it just reached 120 degrees today. Should I exchange it or just suck it up?

Thats what happens when you don't get a plastic phone..LOL,,it gets hot now.
Of course it gets hot suck it up or return it for the s4.

+1 to it running hot. guess im goign to have to use a case to buffer the heat.. too bad cause it looks so sexy nakid.
I play Dungeon Defenders which is a pretty intensive 3D tower defence on highest graphics and all I have gotten is warm/hot but nothing uncomfortable.
High end phones get hot!
All this talk about metal conducting heat is just that, talk. Of course it may not help, but my S2 got just as hot as this phone and people complained about it back then too.
Cpus get hot, hotter when pushed harder, which is why computers have fans, consoles have fans etc.
Try not to charge your phone whilst playing graphically intensive games, streaming etc. if it worries/bothers you
Sent from my HTC One.
I can +1 with mine getting hot too, but this only happens when I'm tethering my phone for the 4G internet. I haven't had it heat up that much any other time. I think it was a part of the design, trying to use the metal as a heat sink. But then again, here in Southern California, it's gotten pretty hot outside so that could have an effect on the battery.
I've had strange experiences with the phone running hot. I will play certain games that make the phone run hot and drain more battery - the one that I noticed was punch quest.
Strangely this runs the phone hotter and had higher drain than say, nova 3.
I can't explain it other than maybe more cores running? I suppose it could be possible, just not sure how likely. I'm pretty sure I've noticed this variance between other games too.

Hi, just got my Z1 today and am super exited. Just one thing though..with mild to medium usage it hangs around 33-37 degrees celsius. Is this normal? I know its make mostly of metal and glass so this might not be a problem. Just wanted to make shure. I appreciate any response! Thanks!

dont worry, wont heat up as bad as the older S4 Kraits
my old Xperia V heats up worse than my current Z1 lol
maybe it is the glass. nexus 5 is way cooler in similar usage... but heat is good in winter
All the flagships I bought since late 2011 had heating issues. Granted Z1 is a little worse but don't worry, iPad 3 gets hotter than this yet it works fine! but if you still worry: Phones warn you when they reach their temperature limit so you will be fine until you get that message! and if you did just clean the task manager and leave the phone for a while

Haha what do you have against the Note 3? Ive read everywhere people arent that fond of it. Maybe it was because all those comments on it I read in this subforum haha. Do you notice a type of rattling sound in your Z1 when you tap it on different parts? not alot but minimal, like the body isnt completely unified?

The rattle is because of the camera lens. The lens needs a little room to jiggle in order to focus on target. All the phones are like this, including premium built devices like iPhone 4/4S/5/5S, HTC One/X/X+ AND LUMIA 1020 all of which I had or worked with, that God awful note 3 is no exception either! If you wanna know why I hate Samsung phones in general PM me on Facebook: Ara Rezaee. I don't have time to start a war here for no reason!

Who would want low quality build, bad display etc when you can get premium phones like Z1, Z Ultra !
Seriously, you buy a new phone and the plastic frame looks like one of those parts you scissor out to build cars, boats, planes with glue. There's chips and black spots on the cheap plastic frame from the start.
Not to mention how friggin HOT samsung phones get. I'm glad I got some sense into me even if it took a all these years to switch, I was scared but damn, I'm glad I did it.
On another note, I hope Sonys phones in the future never have glossy plastic, that's really disgusting.

Word bro. My S3 got to 45 degrees from having chrome and g+ open. Its one of the main reasons i switched. (and also the less than premium feel and look.) Shure the Z1 is a bit heavier than most phones, but i guess being the best looking android phones comes at the cost of weight.

The first z1 I had would become warm after medium usage and I found that the battery would drain quick. I exchanged it and my current one runs cooler with much better battery life. As long as your battery life is good I would not worry about the phone being a little warm

my battery life is good i havent had problem with that.
After having the Z1 I cannot go back to plastic lol, I love the premium feel.
No idea what the temp threshold is but coming from a HTC One, I can tell you that it feels no where near as hot as that phone did, that was a hot phone, great, but hot.
The Z1 does reboot on it's own now and again, which is weird, not everyone has it but i have and so have quite a few people who i know.

Those of you that have your hands on the note 4 already. Does it seam to get pretty warm while using it? The back side to me felt a lot warmer then I would expect from a portable device. I have to be honest I am used to having a hard case on my note 3 so maybe this is normal.

I haven't noticed it myself but it is not unnatural that a device gets a bit warm with extended usage. Downloading, streaming, gaming etc will somewhat stress the device. Especially the more you're doing at one time. Happened to my Nexus 5 all the time.

and, since you are in Florida, its still summer there I assume, so its bound to be warmer than it might be here in the beautiful midwest
plus, getting a new phone warm is gonna happen, since you probably havent put it down for more than 10 minutes so far

Thanks. It did take about 20-25 minutes of solid usage before it started to warm up. I do not typically keep the phone on that long but of course i had to configure everything over again so it had longer then average use on it.
Just got mine today and it got a little hot when I applied the OTA update! I'm going to watch it!
Mine got pretty warm after rooting and working it to apply all of my root apps. But it's not hot enough to worry about.
Let the phone settle in. You want a hot phone. Record 4k video for 2 min.
NOTE 4
It definitely gets warmer than my m8 did. Nothing alarming though.
Mine run very cool under heavy usage and i play lots of graphic intensive Games one of those games being Solforge which use to get the Note 3 very warm...but note i got Power Saving restrict cpu performance on which I think drops cpu to about 1.3Ghz each
Mine is far cooler than my note3 and note2. Very heavy use and its rooted , never warm to the touch
