New vs Used - Motorola Droid Bionic

So, I am picking up a Bionic off eBay. Used for $80, or new for $140.
New or Used?

Whichever way you go, make sure you get one with a no-hassle return guarantee.
I got one with a bad USB port (and Lapdock - main attraction for me then) - $125, that sort of worked at first, but then needed more and more fooling around with pressure from an angle to make contact for charging/data.
Then I got a replacement with cracked screen to "merge" its mobo with the 1st one's screen - $30 - but it turned out to have an issue with not being able to enable the 4G/LTE radio despite new SIM, and repeated reflashing with the GB then ICS images (no error messages, just completion messages).
So I used that in 3G mode for a while, but kept eye for another with/without broken screen and/or otherwise rough body, with 4G guaranteed, but most sellers could not (or would not...) tell me for sure if that was available since most did not have active SIM's (although the setting, "About phone/Baseband version" shows if LTE driver present, but many would not even turn it on to find out). I did finally spring for one from Gazelle Store despite that "unknown" due to their return policy, and damn if it was yet another without LTE (and JB to boot - did not want that since so many problems still seem to plague it, including rooting difficulty - due to newness I guess - and it did not support Flash). This is where the return policy was crucial, and Gazelle's is far and above anyone else's I have seen. I emailed my issue with the 3g-only problem, and return email had a prepaid FedEx label image with RMA to print, tape on box, and drop off - no hassles, no delay - OUTSTANDING.
Unfortunately, they did not have anything else in the low-price category for some time to try again before I found another from a different seller with screenshot showing the LTE Baseband version - $70 - so, despite issues with the screen I jumped on that to put that mobo with my good screen from the first phone (plus I have a backup with only 3G, discolored display, and gluey fingerprints under the digitizer from botched replacement, but it works...).
All in all, that screwball process ran me $225 for what should have been a $100-125 phone, due to no return policy on the first (private seller), and second (as-is with cracked screen - typical policy for damaged phones). Now I like my cobbled together Bionic a lot, but that was doing it the hard, expensive way! Should have cut my losses (or figured out the issue with bad USB port sooner - just thought it was not charging for other reasons), and gone with a Paypal/eBay dispute - live and learn?
HTH

If you can afford it I would go with the new one just to be on the safe side. I've heard of LTE radios and GPS functions dying after a while in some older Bionics

+1 new.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC

I agree for that small difference in price to get a new would be the way to go

AT&T Wont let me Return my Tilt!!!

I purchased the phone about a month ago, from the day I purchased it the camera did not operate correctly. I took my device to the store in an attempt to get it replaced with a new one. Unfortunately for me my camera just happened to work that day which was also the last day of the 30 day warranty. The guy pretty much said that he couldnt help me because my device worked, but then he gave me this number saying that if there is any further problems they will take care of it. So I call the ATT warranty department the next day (my camera broke again) and they said that they were sending me a REFURBISHED phone. I talked with them for 2 hours and they pretty much sait there is nothing they can do.
So I get this refurbished phone and right out of the box it looks of poor quality, I later find out that no matter what I do, the device will not charge. So I send in for another refurb which is of even worse condition and this one wont sync to my PC.
Do any of you guys have any ideas that could help I called the warranty department and coustomer care TWICE, asked to speak to both supervisors, threatened to change my entire family's service and they dont reply with anything except that the phone can not be replaced with a new phone. What do you think I should do?
dude that sucks!
ive never had a problem gettin a swap out.. and i bricked my first tilt..
u need to speak to managers and managers only, throw a fit make a scene in the store they'll work with u!
Learn from your mistake so you don't repeat it in the future. If you have an issue with a phone within the 30 day period, make sure it's fully taken care of within that time frame. Unfortunately you took some clerk's word for what would happen instead of double checking yourself.
AT&T most likely isn't going to do anything more from you. They have pretty good customer service and retention, but it is within their rights to give you a refurbished phone.
I also find it hard to believe that they shipped you two refurbished phones that right out of the box appeared to be of "poor quality." If the phone's had a shoddy appearance they wouldn't have been sent back out.
If your next replacement (refurb) is not functional, then tell them that it is getting ridiculous that you have had 3 replacments and they were all bad (again, I find that dubious). If the phone's are malfunctioning to any extent that you can't make calls (like a phone won't recharge) then they should be crediting your account on a daily basis when you can't use the phone.
Lastly, you can threaten to go to your credit card issuer (assuming you bought it with one) or to the BBB. Again, these are mostly threats, and I don't suggest you follow through unless you are truly getting bad refurbs 3 times in a row. Don't just take a negative attitude and look for problems becuase it isn't a new phone...you aren't likely to get one.
However, you could realistically cancel your service, and then refuse to pay any cancellation fees because they weren't honoring their end of the deal by providing you with functioning equipment. Even though you might have a leg to stand on....it will still probably get sent to collections and mar your credit.
Of the refurbs I got, these were in the condition I stated. When I called ATT they said something along the lines of 'every once in awhile a bad one slips through, but its pretty rare.'
I don't doubt a bad one slips through.... but two in a row....
What I am saying is third time is a charm...you can't keep getting bad ones
Also, I know how it can be mentally (as I would feel the same way) that a refurb just isn't as good and you would rather have a new one even if you saw a refurb pass every single test.
Try for #3 and if you are still out of luck...go with the other poster's suggestion and make a scene in the store
This reminds me of when i had the 8525 hermes. I was sent about 3 phones from them that were of bad quality. Bluetooth problems and yellowish tint screen.. The unwritten rule is that after 3 phones youre sopost to get a upgrade of the latest comperable model. Right now the tilt is the latest pocket pc but at the time, the tilt replaced the 8525 and thats how i recieved my tilt..
Moral is.... wait til the next ppc comes out and make a scene.. but also bring that point up to warranty replacement.

Happened to me last week, two bad ones, and a third one that was good. It's possible, and somewhat probable for a scenario like that to occur. It's not like saying he put a million dollars on "00" at the roulette table and won
I'm on my fourth tilt in 6 months. The first one got fried by an ebay charger (I think) my daughter threw the next one and messed up the display (can't believe they haven't charged me for that one... yet) The third did't sync with my PC like one of yours and the forth one's been great. All of the replacments have been refirbs but have looked as good as new with the one being bad out of the box.
I agree with bengalih just get another one if it's bad you'll know right away if not it should be perfectly fine.

well now we know why AT&T sometimes has such a sweet deal on refurb tilts LOL
Ok you said the second phone couldnt sync to pc. If you search through this forum I guarantee there is a fix for that.
Switch providers and tell them that you are making the switch because of the level of service (with details) that you have to date.

Wow Sorry I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at the insinuation that they would actually care. The sad fact is T-Mobile Is worse in service availability. And Sprint? I wouldn't wish that on my enemy.

No BS this will work !!
I got a brand new custom built HP laptop ( to replace my custom built 2yr old laptop w/ 3yr accidental damage protection) because I followed the same advice I am going to give you. Similar situation with my laptop...sent it back twice, never fixed it right, 14 phone calls, over 450 minutes with customer support and such..won't bore ya with the details
Here's what I did...
Got all my phone records to them together
Had all the invoices etc together
Called and told them I had been "advised" that I had to give them one more chance to make it "right" ! Implying I had legal advise....Then I told them I was going to take them to small claims court..Period !
YES I was going to take them to court cause statistically they always settle!
If not I had my records and was in the right !!! Like you seem to be
Be stern, firm and assertive, not angry or yelling. I basically told them what will happen if they did not make it right...they folded like a cheap lawn chair and I got a brand new custom built $2000 laptop plus a full 3yr accidental damage warranty!
I still get a rush thinking about it !!!
I understand what you mean, but I am completely unprepared to take them to court over such a minor issue. Im going to expend all of my other options first, I still have to go back to the store and argue there that it is there fault because they did not support there 30-day return policy in the first place. The man let me walk out of the store with a broken phone. I should have handeled it then but I didnt realize I would be dialing in and getting more refurbs.
Also, my third refurb arrived today, the device functions completely as intended. The problem now is that the keyboard on this new device does not seem very responsive, or at least, not nearly as responsive as the keyboard on my first device (which I still have). I am upset with this as my other Tilt is in premium condition, not a single scratch. I think I am going to return this one as well.
not good
hey I work for the company and
1. they kinda HAVE to exchange your phone in store if you got it over the phone, over att.com or at a corporate store. if you are within 30 days the rep should do the exchange, the rep u got was an A*&*LE. some act like the store stock and shipping cost come from their pocket.
2. if you get an idiot customer svc rep just hangup and call back , sometime u have to bend the truth. say u have a phone that drops calls ( they are afraid of this) and u tried ur friend's SIM card and still does not work correctly.
3. sorry you did not come to my store.(NY)
4. almost impossible to get a new phone through warranty or insurance.
5. if ya'll have any Q's bout stuff PM me.
out...
This is exactly why sometimes the "best deal" is not a good deal...
I only buy my phones from the bigger retailers, Best Buy & the company directly....
Mom & Pop shops, and online retailers:
- Cheaper up front, can usually get you the best deal if you read the fine print and agree
- Usually require a 2nd contract stating you will not change you plan (or features) within 6 months to 1 year or they charge you a penalty (usually $200 for removing OR changing the kind of data service from a phone like the tilt-- ex.: change from Unlimited data $30/month to Unlimited data & Text for $50/month, you broke the contract, they will charge you $200)
- Do not have to accept returns. Returns are done by companies as a 'favor' -- they are not required by US law (for most stores/products, some exceptions)
Big retailers or the Service Provider directly:
- Always have a return policy
- Almost never require a 2nd contract agreeing to keep features
- Usually $25 more for basic phones, up to $100 more for smartphones (they do not require Data, which most M&P/Internet sites give you $75-$100 off for getting and keeping for 6 months)
Other nice advantage of Big Retailers: If customer service at one place gives you no help and you're within reason to return it... go a few miles to another location and try again.... (again, if you're trying to return something 45 days later, you'll probably get no help where ever you go)
This wasnt a 'Mom and Pop' Shop, it was an official retailer. I was going to get the phone at a smaller AT&T but they said I would have to go to an official store that carried there high-end products. When I bought the phone the person I bought it from, I believe I have his buisiness card, but I will check later, allowed me to open the box in the store. He then told me if I wasn't satisfied I had 30 days for a return or replacement. I came back, 29 days later and they said that I had to call there warranty department because the device was not broken, and there fore he could not replace it. Essentially, they lied to me.
If it's not an AT&T corporate store, it's a Mom & Pop shop...
If they say "Authorized Retailer" they are not directly AT&T, they are reselling AT&T services and do not have to follow AT&T Corporate return policies...
Most of these locations are owned by individuals, or groups of individuals, as a business venture...
Keep in mind, anywhere from 50 to 85% of Wireless stores are NOT corporately owned by their service provider, and all of them (except T-Mobile) are allowed to put giant signs on the front of the building saying "AT&T" "Verizon" or "Sprint"... Sprint requires "Authorized Dealer" added to the logo, T-Mobile requires you to name your store something, and if you use T-Mobile logo it can be no more then 25% of the total sign space. AT&T I don't know the exact policy on their signage, but should require "Authorized Reseller" in the sign...
Of course, people can ignore these requirements, One of my old bosses did.. Hence why he's an old boss..
Quick Tip:
If they don't offer the IPhone they are not corporately owned...
At least in the DC metro area, every corporately owned AT&T store has a live active IPhone on display for customers to try

[Q] Advice on the Captivate....refurbished ?

Thinking of buying a "refurbished" at&t captivate. does anybody have any advice to if the device is worth buying if it is refurbished, if any of you guys have bought it that way..and also is it really worth it in att network or should I be warned and wait till MARCHH! to switch over to another carrier ?
currently have a iphone 3g but i really want to switch over to android
Mine is a insurance replacement so it is refurbed, have had other refurbed phones and haven't had any problemss out of either. I love the phone itself. Go to any sub forum and you can tell the phone has gps issues, some worse then others. This is my 3rd (first couldn't go into recovery, and second was lost), and gps is worse then all the previous ones. Even with the problems, I still wouldn't give this phone up. Probably because I love the hardware and its my first android device and apple wasn't a choice for me. As for the network I hadn't any problems with att since 2004. I'm sure that depends on you location tho.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Two weeks ago I bought the HTC Aria with rebate for $29. Then another employee wrote saying they wanted to upgrade their phone, and wanted the Captivate. I looked online and saw that it was $299. A few days go by and he agrees to the price, and when I go to order it, lo and behold ATT has refurb for $50 each! I bought two, one for him and one for me . I like the aria and it is now my backup, but I love the Captivate and for $50, it's hard to go wrong.
tl;dr, buy it.
Did the refurb unit have any signs of use or scratches or anything? I might get one soon too.
Go for it..it's a great phone. Just make sure you can check it out in person first,or can return it if broken.
Mac
I got a refurb.
And it's perfect. Looks brand new. And no problems
I have a refurb......... no major issues. One thing to look for though.......... I got my first one 4 days ago, worked fine, but after being on for a little bit the battery went completely dead after being on standby for 30 min. yeah, something was wrong with the battery, on top of that it would randomly exit me out of screens.
turned out they sent me one that had NOT been fixed yet, their boo boo. They sent me out a new one and I got it today. This one looked brand new, all the stickers from samsung still on it and everything. Let it charge and turned it on....... no more issues.
It lags a little and the battery life REALLY sux, but those are issues with brand new ones also. I turned on my task killer and put the security level to low so that I could kill everything but non essential apps. Now the battery life seems MUCH better. It seems like this phone takes a long time to charge as well though. I think i wll just allow the battery to fully drain then plug it in, see if that will work, maber get rid of any potential battery memory.
Thanks for the help, appreciate it....I ordered it already and should get it in 2-5 business days so i will post back on my thoughts!
cant wait to start using the android OS!!!!
I am on a refurb now. I love this thing. No [hardware] issues at all.

i have a refubished phone and its better than the new one I had
I got a new Samsung Captivate and it keeps rebooting on me at random and the keys (especially back key) are really bad. They dont recognzie my touch half the time unless I press really hard on them.
My question is....if I get a replacment how will I be able to tell if its a refurb or not?
Are the refubs typically better since they have had more extensive testing?
Anybody have any thoughts on this?
with anything there are defect but these phones are built like a rock and if you think about it, if there is a x probability that a device has a defect the probability that it has 2 is x^2(in theory, obviously the nature of the defect factors in) so if the phone had a defect that was fixed there is a pretty slim chance that it will be defective after it is repaired.
i wouldn't worry about a refurbished phone, there may be cosmetic damage ect. but i would recommend this phone to anyone on build quality alone. wear and tear related problems should be minimal. id say go for it.
I had 3 refurb fuzes and 2 razr9s. Only real problem you have to worry about is physical defects. Hinges mostly. If there is a software or hardware problem you can send it back.
Edit: you can also get insurance on an unused refurb through at&t
From a phone on an app
Any one who has replaced a phone using insurance or warranty thru ATT is most likely using a refurbed phone. I have replaced every phone i have ever had in 10 years with ATT due to my being really hard on phones at work and all the replacements have been refurbed. I personally have never had an issue with a refurb, they all lokked and performe like new. I actually just got my cappy a few weeks ago and ordered the refurb cause i knew i would end up with one anyway.( and got lucky in doing so and got a batch 1007 phone so my 3button download mode doesnt get wiped.)
Works Perfecly and only set me back $50
I messed up my first captivate. Was able to return it through warranty and got a refurbished unit. I have been using it for 3 months with no issues. Of coarse there is no guarantee

[Q] Stupid question about glass replacement

Ok, so even in spite of me saying multiple times that because of the Atrix and Photon fiasco - Motorola basically telling all of us Atrix/Photon owners "GFY, buy a new phone is you want ICS, here, have a $100 coupon on us..." - I have an opportunity to get an Atrix HD (Titanium color which I prefer, white is just, ugh), in excellent working condition or so the seller claims but it has one specific problem:
Apparently he sat on it at some point and bent the Gorilla Glass just enough to shatter it along the bottom 1/3 of the screen - picture attached is the one I was sent by the current owner/seller.
I haven't held it in my hands yet but the owner absolutely assures me the phone is 100% functional aside from that spider web damage to the glass itself. He says the digitizer is perfectly functional, that he plays games with it even in spite of the damage, but he's sick to death of seeing the spider web and has decided to part with the phone once and for all. Nothing included, just the phone itself, and it's unlocked because he uses it with T-Mobile presently - that's the primary draw of the phone actually since I have used and plan to return to using T-Mobile because of those new pricing plans they have instigated recently.
I quizzed him about the battery, headphone jack, microSD slot, actual display (where the pixels are, you know), Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, microUSB and HDMI ports, etc, the whole gamut of every piece of hardware the phone has and he again assured me it's 100% functional save for the cracked/shattered glass. I checked with some eBay sellers and apparently the glass/digitizer housing can be had for $43 to $70 depending on shipping, etc and is a relatively easy thing to replace (already downloaded a few YouTube videos for the disassembly-reassembly info).
He's using T-Mobile presently and when he delivers the Atrix HD he's going to put his microSIM in it and let me check it out, make a call with it, etc to verify it's working as claimed.
Having said all this and knowing I can fix this myself once I have the parts ordered and in-hand, who would tell me I should pass on this offer and run from it fast --- considering the price he's asking is $60 cash in the hand --- or tell me "HELL YEAH take it and then run, but pay the guy first before he calls the cops on you for stealing it..."
Just curious, as I really do despise Motorola with a massive passion but, I'm not going to find a dual core smartphone in working condition with something that's actually easy to fix myself for $60 anytime soon, especially since the damage is what one would consider cosmetic and appearance based IF - that's a big IF there - it actually is 100% functional even with that damage.
Yes this post is long, I'm known for being wordy, it's just how things are.
tl;dr version: for $60 cash and absolute verification that everything works as it should even with the cracked glass, would I be an idiot to pass on this deal even in spite of my near-pure hatred of Motorola for their stiffing us Atrix/Photon owners, or should I just to hell with it and smile... is this a buy or no-buy, basically?
(I suppose I already know the answer but I'm curious as to what others might or would do in the same situation)
ps
No, my intention isn't to buy it, fix it up, then sell it as I'm in the market for a new Android phone anyway and I can get this basically for not that much money (and I just found a glass/digitizer from someone locally here in Vegas for almost the same price as the $43 eBay one, go figure - I could probably get this and have it fixed tonight, even).
I am an Atrix 4g owner. I was pissed when they cancelled the Jelly Bean update but I still bought their Razr HD. Every single phone manufacturer has abandoned one or more devices so leaving Moto wouldn't solve the problem. I would take the deal if I were you, especially since he will let you test it first and it can be fun to have a little project like that.
Hi,
I just asked the same thing but got no answer, so I tried.
I bought an atrix hd with the digitizer broken, replaced it and now works incredible.
I say take the risk and if you don't want to, tell me who is selling it to buy it

Retitled. How to hose your phone in 35 easy steps. :)

To be fair to HTC/Sprint I retitled this. As the phone is not representative of a normal M8 (either by hardware or corrupted/miss programming).
Long story.
If you want the short version, "This phone sucks" (and by the way so does the S5).
Here is the long version.
Bought the phone first day.
HTC Unlocked and Rooted it as soon at it was available. Applied S-OFF as soon as it was available.
I had not much time to play with it and stayed on Stock and have WIFI on full time which is used at work and home.
Couple days ago I decided to try some ROMs (being very patient for things to mature a bit). I tried Barebones, pretty good ROM. Note I had "dirty flashed it".
Then I took my first long trip since I got the phone. 100 miles into the boonies.
It popped up "Roaming Guard every 2 minutes", every call. But it was still running ok.
I had forgot to shut the roaming guard off (or it was locked out by the time I though of it).
This is a known issue and happened on M7as well. Most reliable way to deal with it, is to full wipe in order to disable it. (I tried all the tricks).
Well at this time OMJ released his "Harman" ROM and Firmware.
Well I guess it's a good time to start clean, wipe and switch to OMJ's Harmon ROM (and firmware) (whom I've been a loyal customer of)
So this stupid Roaming Guard thing keeps coming and going as I sort out which ROM I want, restoring things with TB etc.
But now, my phone is "stuck is 1X". WTF. And if it does occasionally show 3G as soon as I use it, it drops out completely or reverts to 1X.
So now I think I hosed something really bad. Can't get 3G at home or work. My wifes HTC One M7 is fine (running OMJ's BadBoys ROM)
Updated Profiles, played with PRL's.
So I put it all back to factory (except S-ON) and used the HBOOT that hides that's it's S-OFF.
And flashed the closest Stock ROM I could find (which so happened to get no Data or Voice at all). Perfect !!
Then took it to sprint store, and it was a sharp kid and he said it was rooted and nicely handed it back. He suggested I add T.E.P. and "try again".
Well I figured I'll have to S-ON it. And stopped in another store to added T.E.P. just in case. I had like 2 days left.
So I was gonna go home S-ON it and go to another Sprint "repair" Store but decided I really needed to get to some other commitments.
So I restored a backup and on the road and the phone was back to "Normal" except for the stupid Roaming Guard thing. WTF.
Then it hit me. The new ROM from OMJ was telling me what my REAL network was doing and the stock ROM was lying through it's teeth.
I'm well aware of Developer ROM's displaying "1x" when it sees 1x but after being on the stock ROM (with WIFI on), I kind of forgot about it.
And I was never clear what the "New" Spark Icons were really saying anyway (with WIFI ON or OFF).
So the truth is this thing has been running like crap since day 1. And I believe even worse since the first OTA firmware update.
I started researching options to get the Galaxy S5. Turns out the reviews are worse on the S5 than the M8.
Then I kept finding threads like this one.
https://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/155517
Maybe I have a bad phone. Maybe I'll just smash the thing and try another one.
I miss my M7. Luckily my wife has it.
I had to get my first M8 replaced because it was roaming all the time. My second one is much better . Sounds like you have a bad one like my first one. I returned mine within the first 14 days to get a no-questions-asked replacement for full refund.
Uhh.. No problems here. Sounds like a defective device to me. They won't swap it where you rooted it, TEP will cost you a deductible and they'll send you a refurbished model. Shouldn't of rooted so quickly.

I don't understand if u don't want the roaming guard to sound just uncheck it on the settings. If you have trouble with your settings dial *#*#4636#*#* and select phone information scroll down and select the option cdma+evdo/lte then reboot and check if that help. Then again u should be aware of this

Not so easy to shut Roaming Guard off. I'll bet if most people look right now, You'd find it greyed out.
I just completely wiped my phone again. Ran RUU on it. Immediately Disabled the Guard. And a half hour later it's all locked out again (but it's locked out disabled).
I don't know what causes it to lock.
But you do have to do it immediately after a wipe.
I'll check out the Options #*# option you suggested. Thanks. I remember that being mentioned before.

Uhh.. No problems here. Sounds like a defective device to me. They won't swap it where you rooted it, TEP will cost you a deductible and they'll send you a refurbished model. Shouldn't of rooted so quickly.

I tend to root as soon as it's available. In case an OTA comes out and lose the ability to ever do it. I also like to see if I can root it with in the 14 days, because if something does go wrong I can swap it. I can make it factory looking again. I just didn't want to bother in case they could fix it, because it felt like just a programming issue. I knew I was taking a chance when I brought it in like that. I've brought in MUCH more hacked phones and walked out with a brand new one, with no T.E.P.
I'm still not sure if this is a "Broken" phone. It definitely won't pull in weak 3G like my M7 did.

It probably is.
Fwiw, I've never seen my roaming guard settings greyed out.
As a sprint tech I can tell you 100% of the M8's that have come in to my store that I've replaced have been better the second time around. Seems like there were some lemons in the first batch. You'd better take it in to get exchanged or break it to get a replacement soon(lol) because as of today we were ordering new replacements, soon it'll be refurbs once there is stock in the warehouse.
I also noticed the serial number on my original M8 started with FA, while my current one starts with HT. Could be that ones from a specific location were bad.
There is problem in this phone. I don't think why you face this type of problem?

Thanks for the heads up. Hopefully I won't have to "break it". I never have, but I would if it came down to it.
I was thinking that they are not refurbished yet as well.
I'm not convinced 100% it's broken yet.
I did notice in a breakdown of the phone, that they do have little spring loaded contacts to the Antenna's, which have been a problem on past phones. And that might be all it is.
I have $18.00 glass screen installed on it as well. And it's installed PERFECTLY. Chances of that happening again are slim
I really would like to get this phone to work.
That thread I posted, folks got second phones and still had issues.
I think it has to do with this whole Spark thing.
You know I wouldn't be rooting and wanting the option of Roam only etc. if the Sprint Network wasn't so bad in the first place.
The only thing that keeps me is the SERO plan. But that is wearing thin. Everyone of my co-workers gets 10-40x faster data rates than I do.
AT&T or Verizon.
Sprint better get their act together.
Oh and the store I did go to. They just fired all their Techs 3 weeks ago. It used to be a good store to go to.

Me neither.
Should definitely look into getting it replaced, though.

My M8's serial number starts with FA and so far, the only real issues I've had are sending/receiving texts at home. Sometimes, they come in delayed but I attribute that to the network moreso than the phone. Though, updating the profile/prl seems to fix it. Forcing the phone to re-provision while on CDMA rather than LTE seems to also keep it from happening sooner.

I'm curious now if my phone is bad or its network related. I seem to drop/miss calls quite often. I just checked my serial number and it starts with FA as well.
I'm wondering if these phones were all built in different locations. I have a gold one from best buy and this thing works like a champ. I get similar cell signal compared to my s3. Even at my in laws house which just got lte a few months back and my brother in laws house where I get no signal on my s3, it acted the same with no signal. He lives in a secluded area. I'm reading a lot of negative things about phones bought thru Sprint being problematic. Haven't read anything about the gold best buy phones acting up. What do you all think could these phones be built in totally different locations?

Maybe not different locations, but definitely different batches. Some could have subpar antennas.
I believe the serial number indicates the distribution center from which the device was produced. I saw mention of it in the Firewater thread when people were trying to figure out why it worked on some devices and not on others.
Serial number for my phone started with FA. Ordered it after watching the unveiling, got it two days later.
Haven't had a single problem with the phone as far as software, and no hardware issues like defects.
Guess I'm just lucky.
Knock in wood taking the firmware update on H/K ROM doesn't change things down the line.

I have a gold one as well and also see none of these issues. It also seems to be comparable to my S3's reception.

finding a new droid 4

is it possible? i am pretty fed up with all these listing of "refurbs" where i end up having to pray for it to be fully functional. i'm returning my 3rd attempt at getting a fully functional droid 4 like the first one i purchased that was in pretty scratched up but worked just fine. all these 3 attempts have had one form of connection issues: no lte baseband, constant connection drops, lost data as soon as i touch it.
i read some of the Q&As from the listings on amazon and it seems like they are all used even if its listed as "new" so im losing faith here.

every single one i bought was from ebay. all the listings on ebay are either refurbs or "new" which are really just "refurbs" labeled as new. considering trying on amazon next even if it costs more

Couple of weeks ago I've bought on Ebay two Droid 4 (one for me and one for my friend). The auction says "Mint condition" and phones doesn't have any scratches at all. After this couple of weeks I can say that they work in 100% and I've tested almost everything, calls, data, sensors, wifi, screen, buttons. I've flashed safestrap and some customs roms, patches, kexec kernel, overclock modules and lot of apps. In total I've spend 170 USD on this two phones (with shipment charges ofcourse).

does this seller still have more? do you have the link? i purchased from http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorola-DR...832?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27e4f78370 and http://www.ebay.com/itm/REFURBISHED...363?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item566ee74b83
the first link was the one i originally bought that worked fine however it was pretty scratched up and the ear piece did not work well which i could forgive because i can just use earphones. after that one i died i purchased from the same seller but the one i got had connection issues (5 bars of LTE in the morning and 5KB/s transfer rate with constant "errors") so i returned it and bought from the 2nd link which had a missing LTE baseband but looked like new so i tried again and the one i have now drops connection usually when i wake it up. the image is from my trip to the verizon store yesterday and all the red lines are connection drops
im just kind of desperate at this point

Well, I cannot say much about LTE because I live in Europe and I'm using GSM.
I've bought those:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MINT-CONDIT.../251819221619?ssPageName=ADME:L:eek:C:PL:3160
as long as its got the lte baseband it shouldnt matter. my first working device downloaded up to 2.7MB/s. the one i have now gets 3.5MB/s when it doesnt drop connection
seems like you got lucky with that deal but the listing ended already

Maybe you can email this guy and ask him does he have any more Droids? He seems to run a store.
I have a droid 4 that is in good working condition, pm me and we can discuss. I haven't used it since getting my nexus 4, and want it to go to a good home. I also have the vehicle mount, case, and screen protectors.
I actually bought a Droid 4 off of Amazon (in case my current one bites the dust - had a bit of a hardware scare). It doesn't look like it's been previously used... I haven't booted it up, so I can't tell for sure, but it looks brand new, to be honest. No scratches, smudges, dents, anything.
Granted, they aren't manufacturing these phones, anymore, so it was probably from whatever extra they have left.
i ended up ordering another droid 4 off a different seller on ebay. all the feedback left by others say their droid 4's were good so im putting faith in this one
